Found this spot on Yelp and my friend immediately wanted to go. I was iffy but agreed since I like new breakfast places. Parking isn't great, around back and tight. The restaurant was extremely beautiful inside. Felt very welcoming. Spanish Mexican place. Our waiter was friendly and took our order immediately. If you want water, you must buy a bottle. I definitely didn't care for this. I ordered scrambled eggs, sausage and crispy home fries. My eggs were way over done. Not at all fluffy. I was done at this point but it wasn't worth asking for new eggs. I was already using a 20% off Yelp coupon. My friend said her meal was good but her tortilla was a bit too crispy. Now we get the check and there is a credit/debit card usage fee. I was never asked how I was paying. The waiter said if I paid cash, he would give me that amount back in change. Really difficult specially if you have a SUV. The breakfast was okay. A bit bland. Nothing special to write home about. After requesting the eggs to be well done but not burnt, it was burnt & running ... not flipped around. The veg omelettes were okay ... not much flavor. The coffee was fresh & we definitely enjoyed it & requested refills. Service was good, very welcoming when we walked in. Our waitress took our orders quickly. While we were waiting for our breakfast, our server started talking in spanish while she was wiping down the other tables, to the cook who was across the counter preparing our breakfast. I don't mind them talking but you don't need to be loud and yelling your conversation in the entire seating area (mind you its not that big a seating area) ... that was a bit annoying & disturbing. The servers at this establishment are kind, but move very slow. The restaurant was nearly empty and we waited for about 20 minutes just to give our drink order, they only offer bottled water. I ordered bacon cheese fries and they brought me a plate of soggy fries with 4 slices of american cheese microwaved on top. It was putrid. When I returned the dish they offered fries with bacon on the side. The bacon was grey and that alternative was $5 more than my order. My friend's fruit cup had a spider in it. What a little gem we found. Waiting for a family member having a procedure in downtown Stamford, looked up this diner. Convinced my picky 15 year old son to try it. We settled on the breakfast special. It came with either pancakes or french toast. So we ordered opposites, he pair his with bacon and scrambled eggs, I had over medium with bacon delicious! The bar staff was extremely rude and unpleasant. I ordered my second cocktail around 9:15 pm. At about 9:20 pm my party was presented with the check. One person in our group went to the restroom and the barman said he could only split the bill among 4 credit cards. I said I would pay in cash and he reluctantly split the bill in 5. Note: ownership of this diner has changed since my last review I stopped in as soon as they opened this morning on my way to work. Had the early bird special ( 2 eggs, coffee, hashbrowns, and toast) Food was excellent but here are my issues. - asked for rye toast was told that was 50 cents more ( really, rye is that much more expensive?) - asked for a refill of coffee and was told that the early bird special only allows for one cup of coffee. ( you have GOT to be kidding me) A refill of coffee requires an extra charge? On top of that, there was music playing in the background and another TV on a different channel on the other side elf the room. I need to write a longer review here when i have more time , but wanted to share the love for this awesome local hidden gem. One thing Stamford has some great options for is huevos rancheros and I'm adding this place to the list. Super impressed at how quickly it was delivered, meaning everything was still the perfect temperature. This would be perfect for splitting with someone because it's so much food but since I am extremely single I am going to hope this heats up well tomorrow for day 2. Appreciated the cheese and sauces in little containers on the side. If I could make one request, I would love some hotter sauce. My friends and I were passing through Stamford on our way to Rhode Island. We just wanted some quick breakfast foods. When you walk in, you can see Chef's Diner looks like any other diner with seating with barstools and booths. The menu is fairly extensive with typical breakfast and lunch items. I got the Yankee omelette and my friend got the French toast. The omelette also came with home fries and toast. The amount of food that was given was very generous and at the price we paid, it was very affordable. Overall, this diner has good, cheap food if you're looking for a quick bite. Terrible service and treatment. If I could give 0 stars I would. You shouldn't be lying about the prices of the menu items. When you go to a restaurant, you expect to pay the price listed on the menu. When we realized the charge wasn't correct and mentioned something, the worker started yelling at us. It's not our fault that you haven't updated your menus "due to COVID," which has been around for 2+ years already. The last straw was when he threatened to raise the price of our order and charge us even more money. Even the police agreed that they were being ridiculous and made the same points we made. We regrettably took our chances by trying take-out from this diner yesterday. Raving Yelp reviews did not match our opinion, which was not surprising because it has happened multiple times with Stamford restaurants. Either I am a spoiled New Yorker or we just have extremely different taste buds. We arrived at the location to find how run down the restaurant appeared, which is never a good sign. We ordered the 2 eggs (sunny side up) with steak and the 2 eggs (sunny side up) with bacon and home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly on both platters, but the steak was shaved (we expected a piece of steak ...) and very bland. The toast tasted really strange and the home fries had oddly flavored seasonings on them. The bacon was also soggy, but it was saved by the fact that it is bacon and always tastes good, in any shape or form. read more
