I was called in for jury duty down the road and this was the closest place to grab a quick bite. I checked the images of the menu, which were definitely out of date. The prices are much higher now, but with inflation, I get it. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the person who took my order. I was greeted kindly at the menu and at the window. If I had to guess, I'd say that it was the owner. I ordered a gyro salad and I was very happy with it overall. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the portion was appropriate for the price. I do wish there was a touch more gyro meat, feta, and seedless olives, but the banana peppers made up for it. I would come back and I highly recommend. read more

We've come here several times over the 2.5 years we lived in the Woodstock area. While it's in town, we don't find ourselves wandering past the Jewel too often so we tend to forget about it...but our experience had been very good until yesterday (8/2/25 that is). We had my nephew in town and decided we'd go here to break up the monotony a bit and support the M&P chain Unfortunately I ordered a chicken gyro for me and it came w/out any sauce or even a sauce option...which was super frustrating... On top they had a hand written sign on the window as you pick up food saying cookies 3/4.50....well we presumed they'd be standard homemade cookies...not big or anything but fine. So we ordered 2 orders Well we were charged the $9, but only got 2 of the very crappy Otis S cookies. We drove home & saw that we couldn't even get the kids enough cookies...but thought maybe they had the order wrong -- we didn't think we had the receipt...so I was a bit frustrated & we didn't have the time to run back Well I found the receipt and we were charged $9 for 2 (when we should have had 6) cookies. I know it's petty but that in combination with my sandwich being wrong....is a big disappointment. I had some very let down kids (we will all survive) but I can't recommend Beef Village & sadly it'll be several months if not longer before we try to go back.... read more

Classic old school fast food joint! The inside was older but clean and they had some type of game at each table (playing cards, uno, checkers, rubics cube, etc). We hade the beef and cheesy waffle fries. Both were very good! The most surprising thing here was the excellent service and politeness even from the young (high school?) boys!! Well done! I REALLY don't understand all of the 4-5 star hype to this place. At...all. My husband and I grabbed a bite here and neither of us were anywhere close to impressed. I ordered an Italian Beef, which tasted like it came from a government assistance care package and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich which tasted like the head end of a BBQ flavored mop. The prices for both sandwiches were also just as offensive. And the service...let's talk about the service. See, I would've been fine giving this place a 3/5 but the two ladies working here the day we came in, looked and sounded just like my inner monologue while eating their food. Pissed off; apathetic, careless, passive aggressive, you name it. They plopped our food down like a medieval prisoner receiving his food rations in a dungeon. The beef was juicy and tender and the bread used had a garlic seasoning added to it which was a huge difference maker in setting it apart from other beefs. Very solid Italian beef, the fries are well seasoned as well. The powdered lemon cookies were crunchy and pretty good. The hazelnut shake was also enjoyable. Paid about $26 for everything. I have been driving past this place for years and I finally stopped by because I do like my Italian beef sandwich's dipped with hot peppers. The place is basically like a Chicago burger and dog drive through/sit down fast food restaurant with some ice cream options. It's always amazed me that no pictures of the beef sandwich's were on yelp until about a year ago when beef is in the name. I have always wanted to stop for a beef sandwich so I stopped to take one home for dinner later and since I get my beef sandwich's dipped with hot peppers it will be in the same condition hours later, sloppy wet just like the time it was made so it will be ok. My beef was made as per my order dipped with hot gardenia peppers which is messy but the way I like them. The hot peppers came on the side which I didn't care for because I like them on the sandwich with all the flavors blending into the beef. I thought the beef sandwich was good but I thought the gravy/juice was a little week and not as flavorful as some of the better places that I have Been to but not bad. read more

First of all their everyday menu food is so good. Well cooked seasoned and nice portions. However last night we decided to try something new for Christmas eve. We had 14 adults 3 Children. We catered their Greek Chicken, Greek Potatoes, Greek salad and Italian Beef. Everything was cooked perfectly. The chicken I never had anything that tasted like that it was amazing. The Italian beef was so tender normally we get portillos beef . No comparison. The best was the customer service, the owner made sure we had every direction from how to keep it warm, how to serve it. Gave u oven Temps to keep it warm. Told us how to heat up the beef. My family said don't change it up next year get this. People who never went for seconds went for seconds. My daughter who doesn't eat chicken off the bone ate three pieces. It fell off the bone. If you want to impress your family get this for your next family function. OMG! I just ate one of the best Italian beef sandwiches I've ever had in my life. I had bookmarked this joint for later patronage and I just so happened to remember today to stop in for to go lunch. The owner asked me how I wanted my sandwich made, as in dry, dipped, soaking wet, etc. I chose the latter. I was so hoping that it would be good, I didn't get a combo or anything to go with it. I got that sandwich home and devoured it. Imagine a succulent, beefy indulgent treat or a yummy mound of moist...who am I kidding, that thing was a wet, delicious mess. The best gyro I've ever had. The Italian beef was a bit " thick" when eaten with a fork but blended well when the hot peppers and bread were added . The homemade cheese fries are perfect. Also, thank you for not destroying the meal by adding ungodly amounts of sodium that would make a nuclear engineer jealous! As an added bonus, the drive-thru is a floral paradise. Don't believe me? Let me tell you something about this place. If you are looking for a delicious, buttery, flaky grilled cheese with thick bread, then this is the right place. I can't tell you how many times I've had a grilled cheese from here, and have left HAPPY. I've been coming here for years, and the grilled cheese has always tasted the same. DELICIOUS! According to the menu, the restaurant has been open since 1991. The building is brightly painted, it is clean and attractive. The dining room is also brightly decorated, clean and inviting. I ordered a gyro on the recommendation of the counter guy. The sandwich was a little more than I usually like to spend for lunch, but it was larger than I'm used to seeing for a gyro. The meat was mildly spiced to a level that is acceptable to my sensitive palette. (I cannot tolerate overly spicy foods.) The onions were sharp, I thought the tomato was missing but several tomato slices were stacked up on the other end of the sandwich. I ordered it to go, and it was packaged in a foil wrapper and bagged with napkins. Next time I'm in Woodstock, I'll be back to the Beef Village to sample something else! read more

I was visiting the greater Chicago area + the city for about 2 months. I was in search of the best Italian Beef sandwich as my girlfriend informed me that they just don't make that kinda thing outside of Chicago. We have a Portillo's here in LA, but that place is just meh. pretty overpriced for what it is and I can do better at home (minus the good bread) ---- but BEEF VILLAGE... is WHERE IT'S AT!! After a lot of googling, they have The Award for having the BEST Italian Beef sandwich in McHenry. I finally decided on my way back to California that I just had to try it. So before my long drive home, I stopped in and ordered a bit of everything. Holy Sh** -- This place is fantastic. Not only was it the best Italian Beef that I'd ever eaten -- the criss-cut fries have the perfect tecture. Hot and crunchy as F. I recommend the cheese fries. Also the best I've ever had. We also had the chicago dog which was amazing and there's something called a Pizza pocket? I think that's what it was called. OMG. It's delicious! As I'm writing this review, I am in California and want to go back to McHenry just to eat this stuff again. Last little note -- the owner and staff there were soooooo nice! Whether you're a local or somebody from outside the area looking for the perfect place to eat, I strongly recommend stopping into this little diner looking joint. All in all, a pretty nice lunch. We were on our way back from a trip to Wisconsin, and were looking for someplace to get a quick bite to eat along Rt 47, and this place caught our eye. This is your typical "mom and pop" place, with both working behind the counter. I tried the 6 inch Italian Beef, and wasn't disappointed. There was plenty of beef on the sandwich, and the roll was well-soaked in beef Au jus. The wife went with the corned beef, which was okay. The bread was toasted, which made for a nice touch. We also had their regular (non-waffle) fries, which were a little overdone, but in general, they were okay. There are adequate dispensers for ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce. I ordered the giardinara peppers with my sandwich, and got a small container of them, which were completely used up. That would have been fine for a 4 inch sandwich, but fell short for the nice 6 inch they served up. We'll give it another try. It isn't bad, and the food is okay. read more

I order two Chicago hotdog , fries and drink. What I got was two flavorless hotdogs and French fries that were saltless and vaporized in the fryer. I really like this place for the hot dog and Polish sausage. I've had the burger and chopsteak and to be honest I don't care at all for the seasoning. I think it's some kind of onion powder. But the people seem to be really nice and it looks very clean. I like the Italian beef but sometimes they go overboard on the garlic which ruins it for me. read more

I work down the street from this place and have come here a lot, must say this last time it was extremely disappointing. Paid nearly 14 dollars for a Gyro, because I get no tomato extra onion ADD feta and extra sauce on the side. They forgot my Feta cheese and there was maybe 6 thin strips of Gyro meet on the sandwich. It's been gradually getting skimpier and skimpier every time I come.. You don't think much of this little place when you pass it, but be sure you stop in. The menu is full of delicious finds. The staples in our house are the gyros, the burgers, and hot dogs. Oh, and of course, the baklava is to DIE for. Growing up, my parents were friends with a Greek family and mama made the best baklava, I can still taste it. This is 5 stars for what it is. It's a fast food place ---- BUT unlike any fast food place I have ever been to some of the food is from scratch, the Italian beef seems like they sliced it themselves, the hot giardinara seems to have been made by the owner as there is virtually no oil in it - if it is not made by her than they de-oiled it and used a vinegar based solution. The fries they definitely make from scratch. The place is CLEAN and well taken care of and does not appear to be 30 years old. The owner even has small touches in place I have never seen in a "hot dog hamburger grill" like fresh cut flowers (see my picture) Also there are two televisions mounted inside the seating area for customers to watch. He said it 3 times and almost didn't give me my credit card back. I was getting ready to call the police to get my card credited and given back. It's my first time here at Beef Village. I really love their sandwiches and hot dogs here. Very affordable and quality. The bread is so soft, the veggies are fresh, and the meat portion is big. Really love the texture, style, and especially the taste. Very unique. I am really impressed. Their service is so fast, all of the staff serves the orders quickly, and they really know how to treat the customers right. They are well-trained and professional. Maybe some of them are the reason why a lot of their customers really love their place. Also, most of the feedback is not only about the food and the place, most of it is because of this place's employees. Great place! Beef Village is perfect for all kinds of events such as birthdays, family gatherings, even meetings, and other occasions. I would really love to bring my family and friends here. I love the burgers here! They use garlic salt or some type of seasoning containing garlic. Please be aware the half pound burger is hand formed and made with fresh ground beef; whereas, the fourth pound burger is made from frozen meat. They're both good though. Also the home made potato salad is especially good. Otherwise this is a typical fast food hot dog/burger establishment featuring burgers, hot dogs, pizza puffs, and Italian Beef. As good as the potato salad is the burgers alone are enough to take it to the next level. read more
