We left dinner feeling slighted and here's why: my scallops were overcooked and of different sizes. The meal was the size of a starter for a high price. My partner's steak was cold and chewy. My beer was served in an orange juice sized glass. Where was the rest? Last, we waited so long to receive our check that we had to approach the reception host to remind the server to bring it. Had to stop by the new place in La Jolla. It just opened up last week. Place is so cute with its decor and the vibe is fun. The waitress was very friendly and service was great. The drinks was yummy. Very unique and tasty menu list. The strawberry field martini was delicious with its sweet strawberry. Wanted another one but next I Had to try their sensory overload cocktail because it had calamansi citrus which I love. It was very interesting how you drink the cocktail. You need to take a bite into the edible bud plant before you take a drink. After the bite into the plant, it tingled and numbs my tongue and changed my taste buds. Wow. It was interesting. Each drink is different getting each of your taste palette. It's a must try. We were not hungry but wanted to try at least one thing on the food menu and their meatballs was delicious. Loved the sauce. Absolutely tasty and satisfying. I'm happy we got to stop by. Would love to go back next time. read more

I don't understand how people are impressed by this place. The food is very disappointing. They say jidori chicken, that was NOT jidori chicken; it was not moist or tender at all. So exciting they finally opened up their second location here in La Jolla! Stunning restaurant with organic, beach vibes with the same great food and a stellar cocktail menu with a full bar. You must get the trio of dips to start, I like to add on the veggies for dipping. My favorite entrees are the Chilean sea bass and scallops but really you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. My favorite cocktail is the Strawberry Fields martini (tastes like a fresh strawberry fruit roll up lol) or the Apricot Honey House with redemption rye and giffard apricot. Honestly the place was very average. I was expecting much better food and service based on the previous reviews. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich and breakfast sando. The chicken was dry and had too much batter on it and the bun was soaked in oil with an overall bland taste. The garlic fries were excellent. Our server, a lovely woman from Paris, was warm and helpful in this delightful, open restaurant with ocean views in the heart of La Jolla's Prospect Street. Head up the escalator, belly up to the bar, and enjoy their creative offerings, many enhanced with the owner's own bee colonies' honey. A broad patio with heaters will provide comfort all year long. The mussels were delicious as were the pomme frites. The ambience is bright, sleek SoCal beachy with rattan lanterns, but word has it, (Shhhhhh...) a speakeasy is in the works, too. read more

We reserved a table for 5 people inside and when we arrived it wasn't available. They seated us at a table temporarily outside near the jazz band, which was nice but loud. We were told that when the inside table opened up in 15 minutes we would be moved inside. That was the last we saw of anyone for almost 45 minutes until we flagged someone down to explain that no one had even taken our drink order. A waitress then came over but the service the rest of the evening continued to be nearly non-existent. We never moved tables either. The food was decent and it is a nice environment. The singer in The Hive speakeasy after dinner was a wonderful surprise. Her voice was stunning. I would go back and give them another shot but service really needs to be improved upon. read more

I went for my birthday and they put a candle on my desert but still charged for it after handing me the desert menu and saying "for your birthday". It was a little confusing. The manager (Dark long hair) has a terrible attitude at the La Jolla location. As I was walking by, nature called and I needed to go to the restroom due to a cancer surgery.As I made my way to their bathroom ... the manager stopped me and asked if she could help me. I said that I just needed to use the restroom really quick and she said, that the only bathroom I could use is down a hill and a block away. It's interesting that she seemed to get pleasure from telling me that. Maybe she was having a bad day but it still shouldn't have happen. I couldn't believe it. The restaurant was practically empty, and it was an off hour, so it couldn't be that it would affect doing business. Fortunately, Cody's next-door was extremely welcoming and guided me to their restroom, so emergency averted. I was in the restaurant business for 13 years, never written a review till now and a San Diego native. Sadly, because of their policy or their lack of empathy, they have lost a customer at all locations. Going forward, I will discourage people from their patronage because a restaurant's staff, especially management, is a true reflection of how they value and support their customers and community. read more

I booked this before our tour of UCSD. New place with many adjacent restaurants. From the time I called to make the reservation to our server there, everyone was friendly and really nice. I had the mussels and a Caesar salad. Delicious with great portions. There were 2 toasted slices of bread with the mussels and the sauce was not watery, very flavorful. Salad was dressed well with lots of croutons and an olive tapenade on top. Gave it extra flavor which I appreciated. Son had burger and fries, which he gave a thumbs up. Fries are very crispy and hot and come in a little basket. Mom had a chicken gyro and fries and her plate was empty. Son had crème brûlée for dessert and it was the classic presentation with crispy top and delicious interior. I hope they do well! We sat inside but there are outdoor seats with a view of the ocean and heat lamps. I had the white sangria which was light and refreshing. Since son was admitted, might be coming here frequently! read more

Been only a few times for happy hour, they have a nice variety of drinks to choose from. What we liked most was they didn't make you feel rushed, like there were other people waiting and your in the way kind of vibe that most smaller places have. The staff was amazing at making us feel comfortable and welcome! We got their fries which were good, and the food that we saw coming out looked really good also. Great find! The chef/ owner came over to introduce himself to us. Best salad bowl and the chicken on top was seasoned and tender ! A rare find to have such a delicious salad bowl with all the best ingredients like quinoa and avocado and just the right amount ( not too much) dressing! Unfortunately this restaurant and the hive speakeasy are not worth going to. Although the staff were very nice and courteous. The food was not good at all. We were not discouraged by the restaurant and we still wanted to go to speakeasy. But it was just not good. The first thing is the smell, it's like a musty scent. And it was just one small room nothing special. Prices are also higher than normal compared to other San Diego speakeasy's. In which I do t mind if the quality and ambiance is there. The food doesn't match the location. It's a shame. The only visible seafood in the seafood risotto is mussel shells and a few tiny pieces of cut calamari. The dessert was frozen and not warmed to the right temperature. The servers had non clue on Mediterranean Cuisine. Will not return even they took the risotto off the check. read more
