This is our favorite Chinese place & we always order togo... Most others use msg or aren't any good. We usually call ahead 10 minutes or so - otherwise there's a wait since they make it fresh. Maybe they were having an off night, or we got lucky the last time we were there, but we were pretty let down at Beijing Express tonight. Several people mentioned that the lemon chicken was a standout at the restaurant, so I tried it to see what the hype was about. The neon yellow goo (imagine thick Mountain Dew) drowning a thin, fried chicken breast wasn't even appetizing to look at. The color of it alone was enough to be off-putting, because it was so unnatural. This sauce somehow managed to be watery and flavorless, having only a trace amount of lemon to the taste. We also tried the sweet and sour pork, and it was a similar story. The dish consisted of fried pork chunks covered in an unnaturally orange syrup. It's also the syrup they have sitting on the table as a condiment, so if you try that and love it, maybe the pork will be a good dish for you. On our last visit, we were impressed by the skillfully cooked meat and judicious application of delicately flavored sauce. This time, both of our meals were just not good and very disappointing. Additionally, the crab rangoon we received as an appetizer seemed old, as if they were made an hour or two beforehand and reheated. A couple weeks ago we gushed, but now, we're not sure we'll be back. read more

I love their food! I like that its not too salty or too sweet!!! Reasonable price. I only tried their beef and i can tell its not really good quality meat but still good. I just wish that they make better fried rice. Spring roll wasnt too crispy but i cant complain cause it just taste good. Went there couple month ago. Wasnt too impressed cause i dont normally eat chinese food but i went there last weekend and it was super yummy. Im going back there tonight to take out some food!! Hands down the worst Chinese food meal or otherwise I have ever procured from a restaurant. I got the spring rolls-limp, flavorless and clearly frozen. I also ordered the lemon chicken. This consisted of a chicken cutlet breaded and frozen institutional style (read:prison food) and served with a yellow gelatinous muck that was supposed to resemble lemon sauce and tasted exactly like lemon Pledge furniture polish. To me, this kind of "American"-Chinese food pretty much is same-same restaurant to restaurant, so I don't have a huge opinion on the food. I can say though that it did taste good, was piping hot and was enough for leftovers the next day! I also noticed they have a drive through window which I haven't seen at a Chinese restaurant before. Now I know for next time. I ordered one of the Chef's specialties: Sesame Beef. It was very good. Perfect amount of spicyness. There was something unusual about the beef. Four stars for consistently good service, food and relaxing setting. Nothing exotic or cutting edge, but good, solid, classic dishes that don't disappoint and they are a great value. They are also willing to make almost all dishes vegetarian...not many places are that accommodating. I honestly don't know where to begin. I had been craving sesame chicken for a while now and saw the ratings for Beijing Express were awesome. I decided to go through the drive through. The kind lady at the window let me know it was going to take a little bit of time as my order was going to be hot and fresh. Exciting right? Unfortunately the sesame chicken was very disappointing. This was due to a combination of the overwhelming amount of sweet sauce, less chicken more fried batter, and the bad after taste that was left from the fried batter. This poor after taste was also in the chicken egg roll I ordered as a side. I felt horrible to have to throw this food out as the to-go box was stuffed to the brim. We Ordered 3 dishes through Grubhub... one of the dishes was spare ribs. I was very surprised after a few bites to feel hair in my mouth. I pulled out 2 pieces of hair. I eat here a lot for lunch. The drive-through service is fast and accurate. The wait staff was very pleasant, and personable and courteous. We like the lemon chicken and add broccoli. We love the egg drop soup. This is a really good place for a good drive through. Plus you can call them ahead of time and it will really speed things through. Price is moderate. read more

Beijing Express has a decent-sized parking lot. I do not foresee parking ever being an issue, no matter what time of the day it is. The building itself reminds you of China, and they even have some interesting Chinese-type musical instrument audio playing as you enter into the building. Inside is cool too, it seemed nice and cozy. Inside of the restaurant they have items that you can purchase that are pretty cool. The menu had a wide-array of dishes to choose from as well soda products, sweet/unsweet tea, coffee, etc. I ordered the sesame beef dish with steamed white rice and rangoons. I definitely cannot complain about the portion sizes as I found that the plates of both mine and my family's was good enough. There is more than likely going to be enough to take home for left-overs. My only issue was with the expensive price of the overall dine-in. We spent nearly fifty dollars there, and their customer service isn't all that great. My father's plate was supposed to come with six pieces of shrimp, as they claimed, and it did not. It had about four pieces to start with and the waitress told us that if she were to bring extra that it would cost extra. Also, she told us that the special that both my mother and father were ordering came with soups at no extra charge, but when it was time to pay, both of them were charged for the soups. Also, their shrimp seemed soggy and wet from the lettuce that was on their plates; it didn't seem to be seasoned and/or marinated with anything. It honestly looked as though they had literally just caught some shrimp from the ocean and stuck it on their plates. I thought my plate was decent but I cannot recommend this location to others to try out due to the experience I had here. I was surprised to have had such an experience due to the high volume of four and five star ratings this restaurant has received. Wow...how to go about describing the awful experience my husband and I had at this restaurant. First, to be fair, the atmosphere is delightful and tranquil. Interesting things to look at and very relaxed. The waitress we had was very kind, neatly dressed and polite. My husband ordered the Orange Beef with fried rice and rangoons. I ordered Sesame Chicken with fried rice and the spring/egg roll. We waited a little while for our food, nothing too long. When it gets there it was lukewarm, still nothing really to fuss about. My husband and I dive straight for the rangoons and the egg roll. I start eating my egg roll and I fall in love, amazing taste! (and I don't typically eat egg rolls) My husband shares one of his rangoons with me and they taste superb! Yay! Then I find a hair half way through my eggroll...total killjoy. We move on to the main dish. Both of our dishes were fried dishes, but thats all you could taste. You couldn't taste the orange or the "spice" in my husbands Orange Beef. About all you could taste was old grease. My Sesame Chicken was just as bad, no sesame flavor, no spice just old grease. So my husband and I calmly let the waitress know after she comes over and sees our food barely touched and asks if we need a to-go box. We are calm, polite and understanding. We decline her offer to get us another meal. She says she will take off the main courses but will have to charge for the drinks, rice, rangoons and the egg roll. I'm a little disappointed i have to pay for an egg roll that has a hair in it but I don't expect the bill to be over $5. Surprise! With two Dr. Pepper's, the two cups of fried rice, a cup of steamed rice, the egg roll and two rangoons our bill comes out to just shy of $12. I am so disappointed seeing as how my husband and I have eaten here before back in 2009. I can understand having a bad day but this was horrid and the size of the bill minus the main courses was insult to injury! read more

Hands down my favorite Chinese spot in San Antonio! They always welcome you with smiling faces inside this very clean, well kept, very decorative restaurant. They also have a very nice little patio which is nice to sit on during our warm texan days. Their food is always great and consistent! They make all their own sauces in house too which is always important. I usually get the Kung pao beef which is excellent but every dish I have tried here never ceases to amaze me. They also offer wine for 3.50 a glass. The service is fantastic. They always make sure you are comfortable and happy. They also have a little Chinese boutique inside where you can buy various gifts and home decorations. Very cool. And it is impossible to leave with out hearing a friendly "goodbye and thank you". I've been going here since I was a kid and I will continue to frequent this place throughout the future. 5 stars!!! read more

Been to this place so many times since November 5, 2012. Somehow Brooke (my girlfriend) and I have managed to always get the same server! Stephanie she's a great server not overly attentive but just right. Brooke always orders the same thing... Chicken and broccoli at every darn Chinese place we go to haha, as for me I try to order something new at every visit. I've enjoyed everything for the most part. Especially the lemon chicken and sweet and sour pork on the lunch menu. (Posted pic) This visit we did something different! We sat on in the patio! Inside the restaurant a little much on the decor side, but it works out when Brooke's rant is boring lol. (sorry love if you ever read this.) The patio is a lot nicer than I expected, with a fountain in the center and the occasional cardinals that stop by for a drink of water. Overall out experience had been wonderful at this place, haven't had any wrong orders yet, and this mostly thanks to Stephanie. Who wows me by remembering Brooke's complicated order! I have been coming to this restraunt for the past 10 years. I started taking my girlfriend with me at the time, she is now my wife. I don't want to say it was the food, but I think it was. This is my favorite restraunt. They have ruined own ton soup for me. Everywhere else I go is no comparison. They have had the same staff here for as long as me and my wife have been coming. Every meal is so consistent. The staff is super friendly. The food, OMG the FOOD!!! If you start eating here, you won't leave. Did I mention it's cheap?!? This will always be my favorite restraunt. For a Chinese restaurant with a drive-thru this place is super great! Everything had wonderful flavor, tasted great, and they have a lot to choose from on their menu. We waited about 10 minutes, but that's because they make it fresh when you order. It's really nice to see a restaurant with a drive-thru make the food fresh instead of having it all pre-prepared. We took home quarts of lemon chicken, sweet & sour pork, mongolian chicken, pork fried rice, and shrimp fried rice and had plenty for 3 meals for each of us as they give you a great amount for the money. Prices were really inexpensive and portions very good. Two people can eat for as little as $12.00. Our bill was less than $17.00 for two before tip. I can't wait to go back. read more

This is my favorite casual chinese restaurant in San Antonio, I have been coming here for years. The egg rolls are delicious and I usually get the orange chicken. They have lots of options and its always hot and freshly cooked. Plus they have a drive-thru! As other reviewers have pointed out, it is probably americanized chinese food in the vein of panda express, but San Antonio does not have a lot of good chinese options and this is one of them so I would recommend to new residents looking for some fried rice. read more

Poor customer service. We have been customers and patrons for 16 years and today is the day that ended. A simple fixable mistake by the staff giving us 2 incorrect meals and refusing to fix it. We sent photos of the mistake, called, communicated, and thanked them for what seemed to be a resolution. We did not want them to fix the entire order, or remake it. We ordered 5 meals during this visit and 2 were wrong. Most would think it is a simple fix, but apparently the management staff is incapable of actually managing. We were not looking for free food, just a fix to what they themselves messed up, we also were ordering more food which we were about to pay for until they said they would not fix the issue that they caused and played a back and forth game of who to blame despite this "manger" being THE "manager", who really couldn't manage anything but excuses as to why he could not fix it and when asked for the owners information continued to tell us that "they would do nothing", "were never there" and "would listen to him" despite having been shown photos of the issue the day it happened, and again when we went back to get the meals that THEY messed up. Every issue that I have ever had at any food establishment, retail business, or any business for that matter I have always approached honestly and provided all information that they would need to have to see where the responsibility was and what the issue was that needed to be fixed. Now 16 years going here and now it wasn't a small issue, which it should have been, it turned into a huge issue, which it shouldn't have. They had every bit of information that they would need or any logical person or business would need to know that it was a mistake and it could be fixed and they chose not to. I was not just disappoint I was taken aback by the absolutely ridiculous and atrocious way that these "Managers" handled themselves and handle their business. Every issue that we have ever had in the past was always handled quickly and efficiently and did to require all this. Very poor show. read more
