I can't. I just don't understand. Ordered takeout. Warned that this is 'authentic' not like every other chinese take-out... oh good - in for a treat! Usually we have to travel to Queens or Manhattan for 'authentic' Chinese. What happened here was nothing like Queens or Manhattan. First I'll say that the menu is challenging - usually a good sign, I like different - I like daring. I don't like to be in the bathroom too long though. Nothing good happened tonight. Soup: ordered the #4. "Handmade flower w. prawn, scallop & flounder (L)" $8.95 what we got was a bucket of something textured the same as rice pudding, just as bland... the seafood search turned up 2 or 3 shrimp the size of my thumbnail, no 'flounder' no 'scallop' but a bunch of that shredded pink stuff passed off as fish. No good. and time was not on it's side, the longer it sat the more gloppy and spongy it got. Then we had #82 "Homegrown Vegetable" for $11.95 - the only recognized veg was a scallion, with some cellophane noodles and tofu maybe? unless we were given the wrong stuff? BLAND. then #24 "Handmade thousand layers pancake" $4.95 for ONE. ok, this was good, but not worth $5. then there was the #91, "Chinese thin celery with sliced dried tofu" $9.95 boring, bland, but I guess celery/tofu - that was to be expected. then #60. "Braised spare rib w. hot pepper or sweet & sour sauce" $13.95 - finally something with flavor, if I only could have chewed through the meat. Luckily I did not eat more than a taste of each item, My dining partner however, dug in hoping for miracles and all it got her was a long bathroom visit. NEVER AGAIN. This is my third visit to this restaurant over six months, the quality of the food has gone down...down! Ordered the scallions pancakes which were just ok, somewhat oily. My husband ordered the Chicken with Broccoli, chicken was overcooked and broccoli was cut in large undercooked pieces! My vegetable Lomein was a mound of sticky pasta with a few vegetables which was inedible and I rapidly sent back. Do not order the hot and sour soup...it was definitely sour. Usually I find something good but this was not a good experience and my stomach has been unsettled! read more

Wow, my first one star review. I agree with a previous poster, there is no conceivable way that all the reviews are real. My tongue was tingling from the salt; the shrimp were microscopic despite my wife ordering jumbo; the soup looked and tasted like bath water.... Don't tell me that you're "authentic" so no egg roll or noodles and then serve me food like this. I truly feel sorry for the great people of China if this is authentic food. read more

And now for something completely different. Different kind of cuisine, different kind of service, different dining experience. I called up for reservations for 7 PM and was gently and kindly informed that it was very busy at that time and because they wanted to give us the best service could we come at 7:40? Wow, no attitude no abruptness just concern for a customer. Got there and was greeted and seated by several of the staff. Started looking at the menu which was different in that the soups and appetizers were in the back and you worked your way forward to the entrees and then more appetizers in the front. Also different were selections featuring Ox tongue, Tripe, Kidneys and intestines. One of our party starts searching for Lake Tung Tine anything when the waiter comes over and calms us and pleads with us to try something different than Run of the mill Chinese food. We accepted the challenge and asked for his help ordering. The food was different and delicious with the heat reduced for us novices and was just right. WOW! What a place. Saw the review in Newsday and jotted it down. Then, on New Year's Eve, they were in there again as one of the year's best "Cheap eats." Had no plans for New Year's Eve and decided to take a chance and see if we could make a reservation. We did. Don't ask me about the decor, because i couldn't tell you about it. I will say that it was clean. All I cared about was the food. After reading other reviews here, I had high hopes. Like many of the others, I enjoy going to Flushing. Actually, my family enjoys going to Flushing. We were greeted at the door and led to our table, near the back. The place wasn't packed and it wasn't noisy. Our waitress, Rita, came over to us right away and brought over tea and asked if we wanted water. We did and we asked for lemons, but were told they don't have any. No biggie. The tea was cold and we asked for hot tea, which was brought over immediately. We then mentioned to her some of the items I had seen in reviews here. She knew about them all. She also offered her opinion on other dishes, as well. We looked over the menu and saw many "exotic" foods that you don't normally see at Chinese restaurants on LI. It was just a matter of which ones and how many we would get. We started off with the Ox tongue and tripe appetizer. I had read other reviews about it here and I knew my son would want it. He likes the show Bizarre Foods and likes eating "strange" foods. WOW! That's all there is to say about it. Spicy and good. Even my wife liked it and she's not a fan of spicy food. We also ordered the soup with bok choy and meatballs. YUM. My son who isn't a big soup fan, liked it. That says something. We also ordered the scallion pancake. Very good. Ask for sauces to put on top. We got duck and soy. For our main courses, we ordered the Eggplant with minced pork and the Pig's feet. First, the eggplant. This dish is up my wife's alley. Very tasty and oily. It was real good, but the best was yet to come: the Pig's feet. We were told by Rita that it takes time to prepare and that if we were in a hurry, we shouldn't order it. We weren't in a rush and ordered it. When it arrived at the table, there was a big bowl of Pig's feet in sauce that she broke up for us. We put some on our plates and dug in. Can someone say: AMAZING! This was really good. The meat, the fat, the sauce. Roll them together and you had one incredible dish. All of the food we ordered was amazing, but this was my favorite. At the end of our meal, the workers were getting ready to eat at the table behind ours. As they brought their food out, we were looking at these incredible dishes going by us and asked what they were. We were told they were special, made-up dishes that weren't on the menu. One of the workers (who we found out shortly was actually the owner) offered some of their food to us to try. If we weren't stuffed and ready to roll out, we would have taken some to try. . This had just become our new favorite Chinese restaurant. It was solidified when my wife said to me: forget ordering Chinese food from GrubHub; we are only ordering it from here, even if I have to pick it up. Thank you, Beijing House for opening up here. i was disappointted in the food. i ordered pork and cabbage dumplings which were pretty good. i also ordered chicken with mixed vegetables. the brown sauce was watery and the vegetables consisted of bok choy and few snow peas that's it!! i expected to see some broccoli and onions and maybe some mushrooms!! Also the service was very slow on a wednesday night.The menu has pictures of some of the dishes. However, the pictures look better than the actual food! Also, the dish did come with white rice, There is a charge for the rice! read more

Very authentic northern Chinese and Si Chuan style Chinese food. Good environment. May get a little busy during peak hours so you want come earlier if large group of people. Strongly recommend some meat dish and also lamb if you like. Also some decent appetizer and vegetables. read more

I moved to LI from the Flushing area a few years ago and it's true when people say it's hard to find similar variety and quality of Chinese food. Then again, it really depends on the restaurant (obviously there are bad restaurants in Queens too). The first time I came here, I wasn't impressed. The beef noodle soup was way too salty and the scallion pancake was a disappointment. However, the spicy dishes we ordered (beef, chicken) per pretty okay. I decided to try this place a few more times (and a few more dishes) before I wrote a review. All in all, I'd give this place 3 stars- generally, they do well on certain dishes - their spicy food seems to be their signature items. I especially liked the spicy sliced fish which was reasonable for its price (quantity, quality), the dumplings taste fresh and homemade, and some of the other spicy dishes are good- some very good. Other dishes, however, are lacking and overpriced. I was especially disappointed with the noodle with minced pork (minimal pork and sauce, small portion). Therefore, I would give this place 3 stars. If you like spicy food, I'd give this place a shot. Try a variety of dishes and figure out which ones you like best. There aren't many other restaurants like it nearby. I wouldn't come here if you are just interested in fried rice and chicken with broccoli. read more

I have wanted a place like this to be local for years. In the past two weeks I have been here 5 times and it had been great each time. Food is incredible people who own it are extremely nice people from the area and the waitress Vicky is a sweetheart. The rest of the staff is great as well. First time there. Great menu. The dishes we ordered looked exactly like the photos that were pictured in the new menu. In addition to looking great, they tasted very very good. Like another reviewer stated, you are in the wrong place if you want basic Chinese food. This restaurant is special. It's smallish and not fancy. It is clean, comfortable and the place to go for authentic well prepared and presented Chinese food. "I'll be back" to terminate at least seven other dishes that looked soooo good. read more

I have tried many Chinese restaurants but The Beijing House is amazing! The food cannot really be described since the menu is truly unique but whatever we order we love. Staff is very accommodating. The first time we ordered as a walk in - having never eaten there - we were given a pot of tea while we waited. And the food was worth waiting for. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. While the New York Times said they take reservations, they wouldn't take ours, so we took our chances. Even on a weeknight the place was crowded, and we had about a 10 minute wait. Walking in the door you get a delicious aroma, making the wait worth it. I started with the scallion pancakes which were light and crispy and easily the best I ever had. My companions opted for the pork and scallion fried dumplings, which they said were delicious. We shared eggplant in garlic sauce, sauteed string beans and crispy prawns. All three entrees were excellent--the eggplant melted in your mouth, the string beans had just the right crunch on the outside, and the coating on the prawns was very tasty. The thing about the prawns, since they come unpeeled with heads and tails on, is a lot of the coating is lost in the peeling. So dispense with daintiness and suck the stuff off before peeling. We ordered brown rice to go with our dishes, and the waiter came back to us to say it wasn't done yet, so we got some white rice to start with until it was ready. But it never got ready and we had to do without. It's a long way from home, but I thought it was worth the trip. read more

The Food is authentic and fresh! The best real Northen Chinese food I have had in the US.

Ok, this is the next BIG foodie find on Long Island. It is already starting to get a name for itself and the place is usually packed, so be prepared. The food is Northern Chinese cuisine and VERY authentic. The Duck is AMAZING and all the dishes are extremely good. You won't find anything like this east of Queens, NY. The staff is very friendly and trying to cope with the tremendous upsurge in business since they opened, so cut them a break. If you are a foodie and want authentic Chinese cuisine, unique dishes you have never tried before, and a great food experience, try Beijing House. Another Highly Recommended place, among a restaurant scene that is getting better and better here in Long Island. read more

I have not a clue how this place has 4.5 stars. I just left here with 3 coworkers at lunch time. We got seated right away, and were given menus. Our waitress could not communicate even basic things to us due to the language barrier. We asked about things like "does the food come with rice" and "does it come with soup" and not once did our waitress tell us there was a lunch menu that had combination plates(with rice and soup). Our pork and scallion dumplings came out, they were ok, but nothing special. Eventually out came our main course, 2 Orders of General Tso's chicken, 1 order of Sweet and Sour Chicken, and 1 order of sweet and sour pork. If you took the broccoli out of the General Tsos and the peppers and onions out of the Sweet and sour chicken, you would have the exact same thing. The Sweet and Sour pork could not be distinguished from the chicken either aside from the fact that it was more fried. Then the check comes and we put in our credit cards and the guy comes back and said $20 minimum per card so he cant split them. He tells us its a limitation on the terminal which i don't believe is legal, let alone something that companies actually do. In summary, avoid this place at all costs. read more
