The experience at this spot was just okay. We ordered shrimp fried rice, but she gave us fried shrimp served with fried rice instead. The service was mediocre; I wasn't greeted, and after waiting two minutes while she struggled with a phone order, she simply asked, 'What you need?' China Dragon is really a treat. It's not local to me but I have passed this shop many times. Recently, I was at an event across the street at the library. So... after I left I went across the street to this take out. China Dragon is very centrally located on Old Country Road in the Morton Village Shopping Center with plenty of parking. Easy in / Easy out. It was late and quiet so I ordered from a nice woman and within a few minutes my food was ready to go home with me. This is a large take out shop with plenty of seating available. I had my regular combination meal... Roast Port Egg Foo Young with Fried Rice and Egg drop wonton mixed soup. I was extremely impressed with this food. Soup was thick and delicious with a nice tasty broth and four tasty wontons. I also enjoyed the Egg Foo Yong wich was well cooked with nice large pieces of pork, just like the fried rice. The only complaint is the containers are shallow, possibly 18z rectangle sized, which is dramatically smaller than the 24-32z size other previously used. Service and ownership of mistakes matters and this place can care less! Ordered 2 general combo plus some other stuff. Got home and they had only gave me one combo yet receipt clearly showed I bought 2. So I called figuring they'd send a replace over. Nope! Gave them my cell and order number on receipt. They claimed I didn't order it! So I go over show receipt and they reluctantly agree to get me another combo. A hit stunned they didn't offer me anything I asked and was told they'd give me some ice teas. The order Comes out and the put 3 cans in bag. But I notice there was no egg roll! This spot gets killed by people not from LI, I wondered why? So there are other restaurants with the same or similar name in the boroughs. Another lady from MA? Made me wonder what gives and that was what made the answer easy, some of the reviews are for the wrong place. My friend orders from here says its best Chinese take out for miles around, and I agree with him as he's actually Chinese and says its pretty good too. General Tso rocks from here. Fried Chicken wings are superb. Fried flat noodle pretty good too. The beef and broccoli or chicken and broccoli are one of the best in this genre. Those are my go to items. Having been a repeat customer I've tried other items no complaints. Too bad desert has never been a strong suit of take places. So if you eat take out you should be able to tell the difference in quality by now, they ain't too oily relatively speaking. Is it oily still yes it is take out. Everything I've ordered is always top notch. Great flavors, super quick prep (take out usually ready in 15-20 mins). My go-tos are the chicken with cashews (def ask for extra sauce, otherwise they dont put enough) combo that comes with rice and an egg roll, chicken with garlic sauce, wonton soup, beef chow fun is AMAZING, and general tsos is always good. What a terrible experience. Horrible customer service and the food was down right nasty. The spare ribs tested like something out of a dumpster and the fried rice smelled like cat piss. Aside from the dead COCKROACHES in the corner by the entrance, this looked more like a Halloween movie set. I don't know what's wrong with the cooks in the back or the women up front but I think they must recycle the food from the day before. The Department of Health needs to look into the cleanliness of this place. Didn't realize how dirty it was until I thought about the smell of the rice. This is the ONLY Chinese food place in Plainview that knows how to make their lo-mein EXTRA spicy. When I ask for spicy, I don't mean throw a few pepper flakes on there, I mean throw a bunch on there. The spice is not overpowering but it's enough to give you that "kick" that you're looking for. I normally order here because the food tastes ok despite the poor customer service. After what happened today, I will not return. The bad service outweighs the buying experience. I ordered $40 worth of food. When I got home I realized one dish was incorrect. I called to ask for a $6 refund for the dish that was wrong. They said they would refund me the difference $2.45 between what I ordered and what they gave me. I do not eat the incorrect dish that they gave me. Why should I be charged the difference for their mistake? I was a regular customer before. Now they will not see me again. They have changed staff about 3 month ago. Everything seems to have remained the same except for their egg rolls. I've tried all the take out Chinese restaurants in my 20+ years in Plainview. China Dragon is the best. Very flavorful, consistently delicious food. Satisfying soups, crispy good egg rolls, great dumplings, chicken & broccoli, general tsos and sesame chicken are top notch. I do agree with the other reviews that their customer service is lacking. It wouldn't hurt to smile and say thank you. Can't say it's a language barrier when both sons have grown up in the area, and neither could care about being nice to their customers. First they charged me $6 extra because they refused to separate my orders. When I called back, she said she would give me a 'credit' for the next time i order.... or i could come pick it up. I opened the order... there were NO SOUPS OR SODAS with the 6 LUNCH SPECIALS we ordered. Again, when I called. NO SOLUTION. I had to TELL HER to have a delivery boy come give me my soups and sodas. My family only ever orders take out from China dragon. The quality is very good for take out and the flavor is great and not over the top greasy or salty. Their lunch specials are great especially when you get the side of fried rice. I never liked white rice unless it's sticky (Korean specifically) so I can't comment on that. But their food is better than average (and trust me I had so many shares of godawful Chinese food) and the delivery guy is very quick and friendly. read more

Chinese take out places are around all over and is one really the same as another? There are usually differences in quality from one to another...so when I find a place that has fresh ingredients and consistency it's a real pleasure. Take out category this one is excellent for good portions and quality of food. The fried wings on the appetizers menu has changed in flavoring, but for take out style they do a superb job. Suggest you take some of the duck sauce or hot sauce for extra flavoring. General Tso chicken real breast meat and fried to a pleasant crisp without burning it. Sauce is flavorful without being too salty. The compliment of broccoli within is crisp and green and cooked. It's been a staple item for me. The beef chow fun is not prefect, but its been a long time since I've had it done perfectly. They again have a good balance of flavor without being over the top. Enough beef and not cheap on it, not greasy either which is hard to find from many restaurants. The cucumber vegetable added ingredient was different but ok as it's good dish. So I read some reviews about service and they experienced what they did. Myself never had a bad service, maybe the language communication can be challenging in a take out but these guys have been pretty polite over the last couple of years. At the end of the day this is take out food and its excellent. If you like to eat Chinese take out, this one serves up a excellent meal. read more

I live across the street so I've been coming here for years. It's nice to see them always making new renovations and grow as a business over the years. As far as the food goes it's your standard Chinese take out place. What sets them apart is that they have a better seating area than most other take out places, their lunch specials and their family meals. I do think that their fried dumplings and scallion pancakes are definitely better than the other take out spots in the area and that the food is less greasy, if only by a small margin. read more

My Wife and ordered dinner from China Dragon and while she was eating her Kung Pao Chicken she found a piece of plastic bag in her rice. One of those bags that boil in rice come from. It was at least a quarter of the bag. When she called to tell them they said they'd bring her new rice, then give her a 10 percent discount on her next meal. The man on the phone never once said sorry. This is so unacceptable I can't even begin to express how mad I am. Accidents happen in the kitchen, yes.
