I am a longtime fan of authentic Chinese cuisine, traveling to Flushing on a regular basis since 1997, introducing many family and friends to it as well. I long hoped for a local incarnation that would suffice when I did not have the time to make the trek into Queens. Beijing House is that and more. Ate there this past Saturday night. Started with the Ox tongue and tripe appetizer, hot and sour soup, both exceptional and beyond what you would find on Long Island. Dinner was sliced fish in chili oil and Mapo Tofu. All were comparable to dishes that I had in my Flushing spots New Golden Szechuan and Szechuan Gourmet. We also ordered steamed pork and chive dumplings which hold their own to those found in the food stalls of Golden Shopping Mall. After recommending to my brother and in-laws, the following day (Sunday) we returned with a party of ten, and my brother went with a party of nine. Then Monday my mother went to try out as well. It was that good, and that unique for Long Island...especially the north shore of Nassau. Friendly service and reasonable pricing are bonuses. If you are a fan of authentic Chinese food, Ma La flavor, or just feeling like there has to be more than the usual, I suggest you visit. read more

Got take out from here last night. Haven't had Beijing House in awhile. The flour pieced soup was amazing. They also made homemade vegetable dumplings which are not on the menu. That was pretty impressive. My only complaint and it's minor- is that under the vegetable section, half the dishes have pork or other meat. As a pescatarian, that was annoying. Where do you go when you're hungry for Chinese in expansive, less-ethnic suburbia of Long Island? Here, so you don't have to haul your butts another 20+ miles to Flushing. Our server was nice and helped us pick out some tasty dishes. Northern Chinese food is known for its sour cabbage, similar to sauerkraut, commonly used in soup or stir fry. We got the sour cabbage with vermicelli and the fish in chili oil/spicy AF fish soup. It was immediately apparent that we ordered too much food for two petite gals but excess food makes our tiny stomachs happy. Personally not sure what all the hype is about. Some of the dishes are good, such as the scallion pancake, peanut sesame noodles, and jellyfish. But there are some really off-putting things about this place that should be addressed. 1. Their brown rice is very sketchy. We ordered one bowl of it and the waiter was very confused. Probably because he knew that it was awful - it literally tasted and smelled like it was reheated in a microwave from yesterday's leftovers. 2. We ordered some kind of chicken dish. It came out cold....when we asked to have it remade or heated, they responded by putting it in the microwave (is anyone else noticing a trend?) and bringing it back out about two minutes later. To top that off, they charged us for a duck dish instead of chicken, which was of course more expensive. Fine to try, but wouldn't highly recommend. There must be better quality Chinese food in the area. Even if there isn't, it might be worth trying to learn how to cook it at home... read more

In the location of the former Luna Garden, I was impressed by the quality and taste of the food. It featured some fairly authentic dishes as well as your typical Americanized Chinese food if you prefer that. Portions were also acceptable. The decor was okay, but certainly above your typical takeout. It is an appropriate place to take the family or good friends out to, but is nothing high end or fancy (I.e., not an ideal place to meet business clients). Ambience is fairly bright and on the quieter side so conversations somewhat bleed between the tables. Service was polite and decent, with a speed rating of the food arrival being above average (~25 minute wait). Overall I would say this is an excellent addition to the neighborhood, a definite improvement over the former tenant, and a bit of improvement in the dining ambience would certainly give the local reigning Chinese place Golden Temple a run for its money. Came by here in a rush on a Wednesday evening due to another place being closed. Even though it was extremely close to last order, they gave us no issues or any indication of rushing us out or with ordering. They were in fact very humble and pleasant. The place was very clean and nicely setup. There was even a sitting area right outside. Location is easy - right across from The Home Depot. Food was very good. Steamed pork/shrimp dumplings were great and I would order again. The fish filet dish - fantastic. Sautéed shrimp with cucumbers was also good. Chicken with beans I believe was just a little sweet but otherwise it was good. Pancakes were good. We were the last ones to leave and the owner was kind and patient towards us. I was hesitant to try this place because of the yelp reviews but I was craving chinese food and took a chance. I was pleasantly pleased that the chef agreed to make me the Cantonese style beef with tomatoes and egg. It tasted very good. Their lo mein noodles was not the typical take out lo mein. The noodles seemed more fresh. Their fried rice used actual large shrimp. It tasted good as well. It was good. Pricey, $50 for three dishes but not bad. read more

I wouldn't recommend eating at or ordering from this restaurant, the lack of basic customer service at this establishment makes discussing the food irrelevant. They are not interested in your business and that is clear from every aspect of every interaction you will have with the staff. Rude and bothered to even deal with customers doesn't even begin to describe it. I've eaten in and ordered out from this restaurant over the years, and the overall experience has deteriorated each time to where this will be my last visit. Great Food, service is hit or miss! Simply put, the food is tasty, comes out hot, and has flavor to it! Try the panfried pork dumplings! I love the lamb dishes and the Chicken in a garlic sauce is delicious as well! Wonton soup usually comes out steaming hot so watch out! One time the soup was very cool - not good! Scallion pancakes and the sweet soy sauce is great as well! You'll see that this is a traditional Chinese restaurant as many asians are frequently here - that's how you know the food is good! I wish I could give 0 stars. We purchased take out food from Beijing House on November 12, 2020 at 7:46pm. We did not begin eating until after 9:00 pm. First we found one of the containers' plastic lid was cracked and a piece of it was in the food. Since the whole piece was visible we took it out and didn't bother. Around 1/4 way into our dinner my son found hair in the General Tso chicken. We called the restaurant around 9:30 but they had closed by then. We called back today to complain to the supervisor (Niky), she pretended to not understand (i spoke to her last night and she spoke perfect english) and then told me to do whatever I want with a nasty atttide. She also questioned me why I'm calling about it the next day even though I told her I did not eat the food till about an hour after I ordered.Overall she refused to even acknowledge her mistake. read more

Very authentic Chinese restaurant in Syosset that specializes in the cuisine of the Beijing region of northern China. Started with the pork and chive steamed dumpling which are absolutely delicious and served with a nice dipping sauce on the side. The pork meatballs were tasty. The only misfire was the chicken in chili garlic sauce which was a tad too sweet for me. Service is cold and unwelcoming and prices are higher than your average Chinese spot. The way I determine if a Chinese restaurant is worthy of ordering a meal is I go there and order a large wonton soup. If I was to grade the soup overall I would give it a D. The wonton were way over cooked too soft. Maybe too old. I only got 5 wontons if the large and no pork strings on the bottom. I had to renter store to ask for mustard. The soup was very bland. I'm not big on "Chinese Food", but this is not your ordinary Chinese/American food. This is authentic Chinese food. And it is wonderful. First time here and we were very happy with the food. We tried the "thousand folds pancake" which is like a scallion pancake without the scallions and more layers. Delicious appetizer. Sorry the pic was so messy. We we're hungry and we gobbled it up quick. We also had the Dan Dan noodles appetizer which were spicy! I didn't mind the heat but wanted to give you the heads up. I'm obsessed with Dan Dan noodles of late so when I see it, I like to order it, to compare to other places I've been. I would say that these Dan Dan noodles were very tasty and if you like spicy, this should make you happy. It's not through the roof spicy but just the right amount of heat, in my opinion. We also ordered the crispy beef dish which was super delicious. I believe it's twice fried. So as you would imagine, very crispy! We also ordered the sautéed pork and sweet bean sauce, which came with a weird noodle to wrap the pork and scallions in. I did not like at all. It was very spongy and not thin like a wrap for duck or wonton. I would say this was my least favorite dish. And then our standard vegetable, sautéed string beans with minced pork. That was also very good but I was missing a bit more pork. I would like to come back and try some other things but I will say it was a bit pricey. Then again, it is Nassau County! If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, I don't think you can really go wrong here. They have your standards but also have some interesting dishes and they seem to get the seasoning right and technique down that makes Chinese food so delicious. The service was very good. Our waiter was very helpful and his English was excellent. My sense was that not all the employees were as strong in this department but I see that as a good sign! The menu is very thorough, descriptive and has pictures. So you should be able to order without too much trouble. I did have some questions and our waiter was able to answer. The decor is very nice and it was clean. It's kind of weird to see this restaurant in its location, next to a FedEx store but it's convenient and different from our go to Chinese restaurant (The Orient) With that said, I would probably recommend but will stick with the Orient because prices are more reasonable and it's closer to home. If you're looking for good Chinese food in Nassau County, this is a good choice. Sorry not a lot of photos. The sweet and sour fish (flounder) was delicious, with red and green peppers and onion. Many of the dishes are geared towards authentic Chinese tastes, so if you are firm on having westernized style Chinese food, the choices are a bit limited. Rice was not included. Nice atmosphere and good service. Make sure to bring cash, as the credit card machine may not work. I see quite a few negative reviews. I went on a Wednesday night, if that means anything. We are regular customer at Beijing House for lunch and like the authenticity of this place. The restaurant was actually very good when it first started. Since beginning of 2017, we have seen the standard dropping and price going up. Today we even have uncooked dumplings with absolutely no apologies from the restaurant. Seem like business as usual after we showed them the raw dumpling. When we asked for the check, the waiter even added the dumpling into the bill like nothing had happened. We finally contested and the waiter took it out from our bill. This is by far unexpected and unacceptable for a restaurant rated well by many including the culinary critics on Long Island. We went in there for a take our order and stood there waiting for the cashier/ hostess to get off the phone. There were other staff standing around and no one offered to help. Don't come here for chicken and broccoli or general tso's... you will be mildly disappointed... DO come here for their specialty Szechuan dishes and of course the DUMPLINGS. This is not your typical Long Island Chinese restaurant. You will not find deep fried sweet and sour orange chicken or Moo Shoo Pork wraps... located in a Syosset strip mall this place can be missed. I knew it would be authentic because almost every diner in the restaurant was Asian and most did not speak English. When you walk in you are quickly seated at a table and although the servers will rush you to order make sure to take your time to study the menu. One of the quirky things is that like many other Chinese restaurants you will note that there are many typos on the menu. Kind of fun to point them out while studying the menu.
