We were looking for a quick bite. Sandwiches are pretty good, but with small eateries like this it can easily be inconsistent. My experience with lits of places is that what makes this sandwich good is the fresh bread. As far as the inside, on two occasions, we had too many carrots, no radish and normally this stuff is pickled. It was just a lot of carrots and not pickled. This normally makes this sandwich even more delicious. Instead we had a bunch of raw carrots, and the texture of the carrots were too much for this sandwich. read more

The server had no time for conversation. We ordered the Saigon Special. It was good. My wife, who is Vietnamese, wished it had head cheese in it. Great service, with regards to food I had the chicken and pork sandwich and pork spring roll all of them was good with lots of meat and sauce. The bread was light and crunchy food doesn't weigh you down. They also had various drink options which I didn't get to try yet. Must try if in the area. read more

Cute little shop for sandwiches and a few desserts/drinks. I placed an order by phone for pickup, and was told it would take 10-15 minutes. There are several parking stalls behind the building, entrance off of Holokahana Ln. Friendly service and food was ready when I arrived. The counter is right up by the door (no seating inside during COVID). We got the pork banh mi, chicken banh mi, summer rolls, and Vietnamese coffee. Everything was yummy! The sandwiches could use more radish and less carrot, but great flavor and good fresh bread. At $8 per sandwich not a bargain, but worth it for the quality. Coffee very sweet and strong. This place is our go-to spot for yummy banh mi sandwiches. Honestly probably eat here at least once a month and they never disappoint! My favorite is the bbq chicken banh mi. But I have friends whose fave is the Saigon special and their summer rolls are also really yummy. This is my favorite banh mi hands down. In L.A. or Honolulu. The bbq pork is my fave and the bbq chicken is also ono. The pork itself is very flavorful and moist. They put a lot of fresh veggies & jalapeños along with the usual daikon and carrots. The bread tastes so fresh too. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also yummy! Service is quick. Only thing the street parking is hard, but you can call in order ahead of time and just park on Holokahana lane near the building if it's just fast kine pick up. Highly recommended! read more

The are open on Sundays now! I repeat.. they are open Sundays. I have eaten here a gazillion times because 1) it's 2 blocks away from my home 2) the service and quality is just really really consistent and 3) I finally tried the "vegetarian" sandwich. Ok so, I've tried other "vegetarian" Bahn Mi sandwiches which really basically means double pickled vegetables maybe even some lettuce and tomato. But not here chef makes her own vegetarian loaf that will satisfy a meat eater that just wants to eat less meat in there diet. Since she has improved her bread a few years ago this is our loyal to the soil Bahn Mi place. The sandwiches are all $9. They also do have Summer and Spring rolls which is another cravable item. Now they are open Sundays so not looks like we are eating here 2xs a week vs 1xs a week. Heard from friends that this place was the spot for Banh Mi's. Went for lunch on a Tuesday and there was no line. I got the veggie, pork and chicken banh mi's for $9 a pop each. Also got a lemonade with lychee jelly. The bread was fresh and flaky but the amount of food in the banh mi's for $9 was average. The taste was pretty good but for my evaluation it's the intersection of quality and quantity. You'll need at least 2 for a good meal and if you are a good sized bruddah 3 will do the trick but also run you close to $30. I know a lot of places where I'd rather spend $30 for lunch to get more bang for my buck. read more

This restaurant is really cute and I appreciate that they are dedicated to selling banh mi with a very limited menu of a few different types, some drinks, and occasional dessert offerings. I enjoy all of their banh mi, and really appreciate that they have the Saigon special with all the mixed meats, no different than the ones scattered throughout the actual streets of Saigon. Have had the Vietnamese iced coffee a few times and always on point. Only area for improvement is the ratio of toppings. In my opinion, there is way too much carrot and not enough daikon or cilantro in the banh mi. This may be a personal preference, but I really think that relative to other banh mi that I've tried (in US and Vietnam), this skewed ratio detracts from overall enjoyability. read more

The best banh mi I've had in the islands hands down! I always get the BBQ chicken and am always impressed. The chicken is tender and juicy, extremely well seasoned with a really nice smokiness and charbroiled flavor, the bread is always fresh, very soft inside, and nice and crusty outside. The pickled veggies are crisp and perfectly done and the Vietnamese coffee is superb. But, the best part is that the owners are super nice, friendly and welcoming. Quite different than even the most popular banh mi places downtown where I never get the feeling that my business is appreciated and who's banh mi cannot even come close to Bella Banh Mi Cafe's! Just discovered this hidden gem in Nuuanu two weeks ago and ate there three times so far! The sandwiches are super fresh, high quality and authentic tasting. The bread is super light with a crispy crust and soft, chewy interior. Not to mention the sandwiches are pretty affordable, under $10. I've been here twice and have only had sandwiches : Saigon special, BBQ pork and BBQ/lemongrass chicken sandwiches. I'm Vietnamese and I'm always on the hunt for the best Vietnamese Banh Mi. I have to say that this place currently tops the rankings with the best ingredients so far. The meat is properly marinated and cooked, the pickled carrot and daikon are fresh, tangy and crunchy (can't forget the sliced jalapeños). I normally don't like the Saigon special but this place does it right, patè, butter, pork floss, cha lua, and all the standard fixings a Banh mi should have. This place stands out because they don't mess about with fancy meats, trying to put their "twist" on it. Pure, traditional and high quality ingredients put together with great care. After I left with my order today, the owner texted me and apologized about the bread being a little harder than usual and offered my next sandwich on the house. I absolutely love this place! My cousin brought me here for lunch one day and I think it's safe to say I'm a regular here now. I love their BBQ chicken banh mi. I've had banh mi sandwiches from other places and they're so thin and mostly bread but not this place. The sandwiches are full of veggies and meat!! Not only are the banh mi good but the SOY MILK! Omg it is my favorite! Sometimes I go there just for the soy milk! It's fresh too! Not only is the food here good but the service is always great. The owner is always there and if you go on a Sunday her and her daughter are there and they're always so friendly! The food is good but the service is what keeps me coming back. We stopped in the other day to get a chicken and pork banh mi for my in-laws. I would have loved to eat here, but they didn't have a vegetarian option. Fast forward two days from their opening and they have already responded to demand and we got to eat both a vegetarian banh mi and vegetarian summer rolls. REALLY good!! We have gone to Bale in the past for banh mi, but this is our new favorite. The French bread is better IMHO and, being a mom and pop restaurant, the atmosphere is really friendly. read more
