So disappointed. Like other reviewers have said, their baked Char Siu Bao used to be among the best with nice chunky pork filling, with little or no artificial coloring. But the last two times I bought from them this year, the latest being this past Sunday, 4/20, I found the filling to not be chunks of pork but what looked like GROUND pork. Hopefully this is just a temporary change, but like I said, the filling was like this the last two times I bought from them. The bread is still very good, but that ground pork filling just doesn't do it for me. Their baked bao WAS better than Sing Cheong Yuan, just down the street, but now, it's back to SCY for me.

I always stop here for the baked red bean buns (since Sing Cheong Yuan stopped making theirs) and some red bean donuts rolled in sugar (like a malasada). Price points are the best in the area at $2 a pop with good quality red bean filling. Saw an open tray to the right of the register with blueberry cream cheese scones cooling. Asked if they sell these too, got an affirmative, and at a decent price. Snagged one and decided to eat it now..let me tell you all, their scones are a revelation! I happened to have a Diamond Head Grill and Market/Bakery's blueberry cream cheese scone two nights prior, and damn - Bread House's version just knocks it out of the park!!!! The scone is not too bready or heavy, crumbles just right, has large blueberries that pop with a sweetly mellow and tart flavor, a generous middle layer of cream cheese through the scones, and has just the slightest crunchy crust at the outer corners. It isn't too small, and not too large. This scone is also fresh and light, and cheaper than the DHG one. DHG has gotten really lazy about making their scones with one dollop of cream cheese, super bready and buttery dough that's tasting more like a muffin with maybe 2 blueberries max. If I didn't care about eating a balanced diet, I'd have these scones every day!! Such a great find.

Love the Baked Char Siu Manapua's

There are two items at The Bread House located in Chinatown that gets me all weak in the knees and that's all thanks to the Mayor of Chinatown also known as the Ambassador of Yelp Paul C :) The funniest thing is that I haven't even set foot in this place but know this place all to well because whenever I meet up with the Mayor of Chinatown and other good friends I have met throughout the years from Yelp he always gives me some Baked Char Siu Manapua and Almond Sticks to eat the next day and will last us the Whole Week. Everyone talks about Sing Cheong Yuan's and Royal Kitchen's Baked Char Siu Manapua but let me tell you don't sleep on the Baked Char Siu from The Bread House. The Bun is Pillowy Soft and very tasty and the Char Siu Filling is Nice and Chunky and not Red like most places have their filling. Now I can see why their Bread is so popular here at The Bread House. And another must get here at TBH is The Almond Stick. No words can describe how sinfully delicious these are. Light,Flakey, not overly Sweet is how to describe The Almond Stick. But eating this takes a lot of skill because it's a hot mess trying to eat it but it's so darn good judt make sure you eat it with the plastic bag so you eat all the flaky puff pastry with Slivered Almonds at the bottom of the bag...LOL If you are ever in Chinatown definitely give this place a try. What a dynamic duo these two items are. all thanks to Paul C

Thank you fellow yelper Paul C. For always going down here and getting all different kind of pastries for us to try when he brings it to our yelp get togethers. But he is correct you have to go early to get the good stuff like their banana bread. Went today but a little later like 11:30 or so and yup the bread was sold out. So I got their coconut cream bun. It was moist and you can taste the coconut on the top. You can go crazy looking at all different pastries and different kind of buns like (hot dog bun, char siu bun, curry fry bun etc). Its a place where its probably well known for the people who always shop in chinatown for vegetables and fruit and meats, fish. Try their pastries and buns if in chinatown. You won't regret it.

    MMmmmmm almond stick!

I was looking for a bakery and Bread House came up. Reading through the reviews, the Almond Stick kept coming up, so I had to try it. Scored parking in front, and if I was hungrier, I would've gotten some pork hash from Sing Cheong. Entered BH, and I heard a friendly hello. Couldn't find the almond stick, and then I saw she was wrapping them. I said I'd like one please. He: (inaudible)...40.. I gave him $2. He: $6.40 Oh, okay...gave him $7, and the friendly woman gave me my bag. So I guess they are only sold as 5 sticks. Which maybe he said...I don't know. Anyway, they are delicious! And they stay crispy after a few days. Some places, the crispy pastries get soft, but these were great! I agree with Terry K. that the service was a bit rude, but the woman was nice. Definitely look past the guy and just get your stuff and go.

My wife picked up a coconut bun for our snack. The bun was soft and a little gummy. The the cream filling was lite. The coconut taste came from the. bun and the sprinkle of coconut on top. I would buy it again We have Paul C . to thank. He gave us a mini loaf of banana bread which was very similar to the taste and texture of what I make. Actually that's what my wife went in to get. They ran out so to early. Enjoy

Baked goods in Honolulu's Chinatown... I have been to this Bakery so many times! It consistently has high quality, good looking, reasonably priced items. It's time for a review... PARKING: metered street parking is free on Sundays and holidays. There are municipal parking lots nearby SERVICE: friendly and efficient. The pleasant female cashier thanked me for my business and said that she looked forward to seeing me again soon ENVIRONMENT: the door is open and I can feel some air conditioning inside the bright, clean shop. Everything is neatly labeled and priced. Grab a tray, place a sheet of waxed paper on it, get a pair of tongs, and help yourself. The cashier will bag each item separately and place your purchase in a brown paper bag. FOOD: there's too many to mention. Examples are custards, sponge cakes, savory buns, Cha siu bao (bbq pork bun), scones, tarts, and cheesecakes. Try 'em all! Life is short and unpredictable. Gotta enjoy a treat once in awhile!

This space is your typical Chinese self serve bread/donut shop they are famous for their Japanese cakes but I don't care for those. My favorites are the milk bread pineapple bread so many to choose from it's hard to say what I like best. Stop by if ur in the neighborhood there may be something you want there. Shop is small limited street parking

I was staying in Waikiki and Kona Coffee Purveyors was just a short walk away in the International Marketplace shopping center. As I came up to the shopping center shortly after 7am, I noticed a long line, and thought to myself, this couldn't possibly be for Kona Coffee Purveyors, right?? But unfortunately for me, it was. I didn't see how long the line extended, but I knew I didn't have time to wait, so I ended up getting coffee elsewhere. A few hours later, around 11:30am, I was back in the Waikiki area and happened to be walking past Kona Coffee Purveyors. I saw there were maybe a handful of people in line, so I decided to drop in. I ended up getting a latte, black sesame kouign amann, and pandan coconut tapioca pudding. My favorite was the pandan coconut tapioca pudding which was delightfully light and not too sweet dessert. Black sesame kouign amann: A twist on the classic kouign amann. A beautiful blend of crunchy and soft. The black sesame filling adds a nice flavor. Pandan coconut tapioca pudding: Pandan pudding, coconut tapioca, topped with coconut macaroon. This seems to be a seasonal/limited item. Their desserts are from b patisserie, and they all looked soo enticing and pretty! It was a nice place to sit and leisurely enjoy coffee and pastries. I would say this place is not worth it right when they open, only because the line is soo long and it's very hectic with people fighting for seating and getting their orders in. I would recommend going later in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid the morning craze.

I'd been curious about trying their matcha offerings, so I was excited. We came on a holiday morning, and there wasn't anyone inside. The cafe is cute and vibey! I ordered at the register, and she made my drink immediately. I was intrigued by their Haupia Matcha Latte. I love all things Haupia, so it seemed like the perfect match. I got the Haupia Matcha Latte with Oat Milk, and it was superb. I loved how creamy it was, how the sweetness of the haupia shone, but the earthiness of the matcha was still there.
