I was a frequent customer her about 8 years ago, a lot has changed since then. I stopped by this weekend with my family for lunch. It was pretty full by not packed. Their sandwiches are really good and are served with tasty blue tortilla chips. My daughter, who is 2, had a pizza with just cheese she liked it a lot and it came with assorted fresh fruit and juice for under $5, not bad. I had their Asian chicken salad, it was okay typical with cabbage, bean sprouts, cilantro, carrots, peanuts, green onion, and crunchy noodles. The problem was the chicken on the salad was incredibly dry almost inedible. The mochas are good, a little sweet for my taste. They had a breakfast menu that looked really good. My vanilla latte was terrible - I'm not even a huge fan of coffee but I know how it should taste. Man oh man was this place busy on a Wednesday night! It's so great to see local neighborhood restaurants staying busy like this.. (then you know its good). A friend and I came in around 7:00pm which looked to be when everyone else was walking in the door too! Try avoiding that time if possible or you may have to wait a moment to settle in. Our waitress was very nice and helpful with the menu. The menu is big with a lot of options so it can be overwhelming! She had recommended the Lobster Crusted Halibut and I will say I am glad she did! This was cooked to perfection! It did take awhile to get our food. As I looked over to the front where you can see the food coming out it looked to be quite busy up there so its understandable. One gentleman who was dressed differently not in black, was toying on his phone and looked to be goofing off. This was an annoyance to me because of the wait and the lack of caring about the people who are patiently waiting. Such interesting blend of a cafe and restaurant. You're not sure what to do when you first walk in. You can either take a seat and wait for a waiter, or step right up to the counter and order. There's all kinds of seating. Booths, tables and chairs, or you can sit up on high chairs by the bar in front of a counter. The place exudes a warmness by the warm earthy tones its painted on the walls and the floors, and soft lighting with beautiful covers. It's perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or a casual get together with friends. The food is hit and miss. Some things I loved like their sliders and bean soup. The margarita pizza was a miss. Way too much garlic cloves and pesto sauce. I'm not a fan of Risotto. Whatever you order, you have to try one of their pies or cakes! Very delicious!!! read more

Coffee was great- love their Mango Iced Tea! We recently moved to this side of town and found this place to satisfy our weekend morning outings. They have Daily specials that seem to work, have also had their soups and club sandwich for lunch a few times now and they were pretty good as well. I keep trying to like this place but can't. It is near by my house and serves the things I like but they can't seem to get it right. Every time I have come, they have always messed up my order or forgotten to make it. Once I ordered a cappucino and it took them 15 minutes to make it even though they weren't busy at the time. I think they forgot about that I ordered it. Another time I came in to order dessert and they left the clear divider wrapper on the strawberry cake slice I ordered and forgot to bring my tea out until I reminded them. Ordered a $14 chicken salad that was so disappointing and clearly not worth the money. First, I ordered the salad dressing on the side and it came tossed with dressing, which I couldn't tell at first. When I asked for the dressing they brought me the wrong one. It was okay that they dressed it because it was pretty good and the salad was not drowning in it. They forgot the walnuts and when I again I flagged them down and asked, they gave me small cup of plain walnuts. The worse part was the chicken. For $14 I would expect the chicken to be freshly cooked or grilled. It was cold, dry and tough. Did not appear to have been even cooked that same day. I pushed the chicken to the side and did not eat it. And really, even with freshly cooked chicken, the salad would have been nothing special. Lettuce, plain walnuts, slices of dates and chicken. we like to come here for brunch and a mimosa on sunday's. it does get crowded and the service is walk-up to order, so it is possible to order and then not have a table...sitting outside is a plus! biggest gripe: their potatoes are consistently terrible (every every time we have been)...they are boiled and then barely BARELY fried up in a pan (we had to pick through an entire serving to find 2 pieces with a bit-of-browning) with bell peppers and perhaps some onion, but they are basically like a flavorless boiled potato and they are super disappointing. read more

I'll admit my three-star review is because I'm comparing Bella Bru now to what it used to be. When my husband and I started dating nine years ago, it was one of our favorite places to grab a coffee drink and a dessert or a coffee drink and a pastry, depending on the time of day. Over the years, Bella Bru seems to have gotten further and further away from that model and more into being a restaurant than anything else. What that means is although their coffee and desserts are still absolutely delicious, we feel unwelcome when go there just to get these items. We are frequently asked, "Just coffee?" with a tone that indicates it's not really what people do there anymore. Oh well; I guess we'll have to find a new place for an afternoon break or brunch. read more

Most of my trips to this Bella Bru have been for their coffee and related drinks which are good although nothing special. It's a fantastic spot to get a cup of joe with a few friends. The tables are always clean and I really enjoy their patio during the spring. I most often order the Sunrise Special breakfast (with bacon of course), and it's a nice, large, and classic breakfast plate. While the portions are generous, they don't make up for the lack of attention to preparation. Each time I've asked for my eggs easy over, and the yolks are deliciously runny but the egg white has never once been cooked properly, making for a slimy mess. On the same thread, the potatoes are normally undercooked and soggy (I realize some may like them better this way. A matter of personal preference). To close on a better note, both the bacon and applewood sausage are superb. The French Toast and Belgian Waffle are incredibly soft on the inside with crispy edges. My best advice would be to explore the griddle options with your coffee, and stay away from eggs unless you like them scrambled. read more

I find it disappointing that our server switched out my cake for a different one and i didn't discover this tilli went home and tasted cheesecake i originally ordered under the chocolate mousse pie, which was by far better anyway. Decor is nice for European style cafe, but the service can be terrible. Gave it 3 different tries last year and finally gave up. Yes their menu items are great but not one of their wait staff seemed to be trained. They don't know a table spoon from tea spoon ( had a waiter ask me what a 'tea spoon' was!) And its waaaay over-priced for the service and lack of professional friendliness you receive if they don't bring you what you ordered. Just because there's a scarcity of similar type cafes in that area is no excuse for the 'lack of care' that occurs here. Christina in catering staff is awesome! My niece hired Bella Bru for her wedding a few years back, so I knew their food and presentation where wonderful. I called Christina, who responded very quickly, since we wanted to hire them for a particular date in May for my daughter's wedding. Unfortunately, they were already booked for another wedding. But she was so helpful! She even checked with the owner to see if they could squeeze us in. They decided not to--they wanted to focus all of their attention on the wedding already booked. To me that is so amazing--they care more about quality than quantity. She even gave me tips for our wedding and suggested another caterer that she respects. I would definitely book a future catering need with Bella Bru. They actually care about their customers! I went for a run with some friends this morning and we decided to get some breakfast following. Nearest location was Bella Bru Café! Yes we had to stand in a short line to order, but when the coffee hit my lips I was good. Great coffee and a nice little condiment bar to perk up the flavor. I had the Hamburger and was not disappointed. The bun was out of this world and the meat was fresh. Fries were great to. As I looked around the table I saw so many things I wanted. Back when I was in high school this was the ultimate hang out because they were open until 11 p.m. and you could loiter in the parking lot afterwards. It has since then become one of the places where I go with friends from high school to relive the "glory days." It now closes at 10 which sort of sucks, but they still have delicious coffee. They also have great food and do catering. This particular location even has a table that is a checker board and you can play. Back in the day they had bands play there, but I don't think they do that anymore. It's a little more quiet now. Still, I gotta say, I love this place. Came here for brunch with the girls! This place was popping the moment we walked in. At this cafe, you order in the register first, get your number and your food will be delivered to wherever you are. My friends both got the lox bagel so I wanted to be different and went for vegetable 3-egg omelet. I wish I went for the bagel...LOL. The omelet was pretty plain and the potatoes were too mushy for my taste. I also ordered a mocha with soy but the guy misheard and gave me white chocolate mocha. I hate it because I personally hate white chocolate and the drink itself was not even sweet. It was in this awkward limbo of milk and coffee. On the other hands, my friends enjoyed their food because the bagel was really good! The order came as a deconstructed plate so you have to spread your cream cheese and assemble bagel, which is my preference since I get to control how much cream and capers go on my carb. I ordered a cappuccino at their Natomas location and what I got was horrible, obviously they just turn them loose on the espresso machine without any training (might I suggest expresso 101 video that you can purchase and have your employess watch). First time eating at Bella Bru! All I can say is "amazing!" You walk in the door and the floors are absolutely beautiful and you can tell they care about their professional image. I went with the tuna melt which normally comes with avocado but since I'm allergic they subbed it out for bacon. The bacon was freshly cooked and still hot, the tuna was fresh and delicious and the fries were fresh out and crispy! I would strongly recommend this place to anyone. Plus the manager, Colby, came up and had a chat with me, what a pleasure that was! It's great to see local business thriving and growing! A must try in my book :) read more
