This is the very first Yelp review I've written and I wouldn't be writing this one if I wasn't so disappointed with this café. I've gone here 3-4 times a week for breakfast for several years. Today the place was very crowded with blue-shirted trail runners/cleaners. I ordered my normal breakfast - the one the servers/order takers know I order and sat at the only table available - outside and waited. After half an hour of nursing my Earl Grey tea, I asked a server to check on my order. He said he would. After another 15 minutes of waiting, I asked another server to check. He said he would. My order never came despite the letter "P" sitting on my table. Finally I walked in, told the cashier I was tired of waiting and left the restaurant. I won't be back. read more

Because I live so close by, I have been coming here periodically since it opened in the 90's. The prices have soared while the customer service has taken a deep nose dive. Just yesterday went there for lunch with a friend and ordered two 1/2 sandwiches with salads and a side order of fries and a side order of bacon. The order was delivered to our table with no bacon, no fries, one small side salad and no utensils. I let the woman know what we ordered and she got "testy" stating this is what you paid for. Um, wrong answer. So I asked her to bring us the bacon and another small side salad to which she answered, you need to go pay for the salad because the cashier didn't hear you right. She substituted your salad for fries. Okay, so let's be clear, you AND your cashier have messed up my order, did not bring me all the items that I did pay for and now you want me to go to the cashier and pay for another small side salad (1/2 cups worth at best). So I said never mind, just bring the bacon that we did pay extra for. She returns with bacon and still no utensils. So now I have to go to the cashier and request a fork to eat my salad. God only knows what they did to the bacon before delivering it. Sheesh people, customer service 101. You failed miserably. read more

I used to go to Bella Bru all the time in middle and high school. As much as I used to love this place, I don't know that I can really say that anymore. The food prices have definitely gone up a lot, which doesn't necessarily mean that the quality has gone up either. I'm a pretty picky eater and there's not a whole lot for me to choose from. I will say though that their breakfast bagels are delicious! I think they've gotten a little full of themselves which has definitely taken away from how great this place used to be. All in all, too overpriced. I wouldn't suggest going here for a nice quite, inexpensive meal. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch when visiting family in the area - and we are so glad we did! It was delicious. Everything looked on the menu looked great - hard decision but ended up with the Turkey Toscan sandwich. I highly recommend it - mmmmm good! All of the ingredients were flavorful and the bread nice & fresh. The Bella Bru Club was also yummy. The side of greens was nice, too - and not swimming in dressing. I wish we had one of these in our neck of the woods. Next time we are in Sacramento, this will be on our list to visit. read more

My wife and I came here last week and we had the Margharita pizza as an appetizer. For the entrée, my wife got the Shrimp Scampi and I had some new pasta dish that had vodka sauce. The pizza was AWESOME! My wife did not care for her dish because it was too oily. MY dish, however, was BY FAR the BEST pasta dish I've ever had! No joke. I came here on a Saturday morning. We got 3 breakfast burritos to go. Waited for a bit but they were crowded. Our food was good but I'm not sure the priced matched what we were given. It stated potatoes but all three didn't have any so it was mostly egg and bacon so that was disappointing. Don't think I'd come back for the food. Been becoming increasingly disappointed with what I thought was a good little find. Ordered a simple breakfast sandwich that looked like my 6 year old made. Bacon was supposed to be on it and there was burnt crumbles of maybe half a piece. Bread was so greasy I couldn't finish it. No flavor and the charge $6 for it. Their breakfast burrito is $10 and terrible. It's a shame because the area needs a good breakfast place. read more

Morning visit. Very attentive and friendly servers!!! Great attitude from them and they are clearly happy to be there. Only complaint is that I ordered a bagel toasted with cream cheese and disappointed that cream cheese is only given on the side rather than put on it...nothing bad from server on this...just a company procedure. Love the atmosphere! So different from some of the big chain coffe shops and coffee date type places. Always very welcoming. Lots of seating inside and out. Came here for the first time today and oh my gosh, the bacon avocado omelette was delicious! I asked them to add diced tomatoes and viola! Got them PLUS a tasty cheese melted on top of them! The wait staff were extra friendly and helpful too, even when I'd ask for extra condiments. Cute inside restaurant and outside too! I want to preface my review by saying that as an avid recreational fisherman, I have a ton of experience with various recipe types and cooking techniques when it comes to fish. I ordered their blackened snapper sandwich. The person helping us reflexively told me that it used to be Mahi Mahi, but that Mahi Mahi are going extinct so snapper was all they could get. Mahi Mahi are not going extinct...they are one of the fastest growing fish with an old Mahi being 5 years old, dumb as rocks, pretty to look at, acrobatic when hooked, and tasty as anything in the sea. There are a ton of them out there. They are not going extinct you confused and misinformed enviro-hippy. Stop confusing innocent people by spreading misinformation! Now...I don't know what they did to that snapper in my sandwich to make it taste like the burnt sole of a moldy boot but WOW. I have only turned up my nose at fish one other time in my life (in 2006 at LAX airport international terminal...you dont want to know). I am the most non-picky eater I know and I could not eat that thing. I can say that the desserts in the display case looked amazing. I can also say that my girlfriends sandwich was of decent quality and just fine to eat. However they also put things on both of our sandwiches that were not listed under the item on the menu. She does not like avocado and her sandwich was smeared with it. I helped fix that...but she was was like...what is that...is that...is that...is that AVOCADO?? I was like yes baby, let me scrape that off and eat if for you since my sandwich tastes like ****. So, at least I got some avocado out of my $25 for two sandwiches and a cup of tea. read more

I was in 5-STAR dining heaven Sunday evening at Bella Bru Cafe in Carmichael. The braised short ribs in a Zinfandel reduction sauce was melt-in-your-mouth tender, no knife was needed. Incredibly delicious. I'd taken clients to dinner here and they marveled over their selections, too: meatloaf with mushrooms, New York steak with greens. Everything was wonderful! read more

My husband, myself and our Golden Retriever have been going to lunch here weekly for quite awhile. We enjoy sitting out on the patio where there is plenty of room to not feel crowded. We are always greeted by the friendly face of Kristen, our favorite server there who knows our order before we even tell her. She is always pleasant and efficient no matter how busy she is. The food is excellent - we really enjoy the burgers, French dip sandwiches, black bean quinoa burgers and our all time favorite is the margherita flatbread pizza with pesto, grape tomatoes and roasted garlic. Delicious and highly recommend all of the above. Bella Bru continues to offer great food, atmosphere and hospitality. read more

I'd like to give them more stars because when you go in to eat they're great. However, be careful if you call in an order. I just called in to get a house salad from them. On the phone a woman said it would have corn, beans, tomatoes, and dressing. I received wilted spinach, a couple of cherry tomatoes, and a few carrot shreds. We've always liked Bella Bru, a bakery cafe by morning, a destination restaurant by night. There's no better AM gathering spot in Carmichael for breakfast coffee and rolls or full breakfast. Dinner has had its ups and downs over the years and it has toiled in the shadow of Matteo's Bistro, in the same Five Points Center. Not anymore. A few months ago, owners Liz and Steve Mishler finally landed the chef they had been pursuing for several years -- Anthony Disanua. Vive la différence! Disanua brings a world-traveler's touch to his menus, with tapas-style small plates and flavorful sauces, variety and creativity. Most recently we sat on the patio fronting Luna Lounge and received excellent service from Ashley -- friendly and chatty but not intrusive. My wife says the salmon salad is the best she's ever eaten -- a medley of tastes and textures -- kalamata olives, baby arugula, feta cheese, pepperoncini, oregano vinaigrette and a perfectly moist salmon fillet on a bed of quinoa. My brussels sprouts were as good as any I've eaten anywhere, tender in the middle with a crisp finish. And it wasn't overpowered by the bacon and feta cheese, as too many often are. My lobster bisque couldn't have been better -- tangy, with a meaty dollop of lobster. The wine list is somewhat limited but respectable. This is NOT last year's Bella Bru. I have been coming to Bella Bru for 19 years. Over the last couple of years it has gone down hill in both customer serves and quality of product. Today I took my daughter to breakfast and spent $40 on two breakfasts, a cup of coffee and a chai! I was shocked at the walk up counter where I was ordering but paid anyway. Then the manager brought us our food. She has never been nice but today she was especially mean. I hadn't received my coffee yet and when I asked her for it she acted like it was my fault for not having it yet. WTF Bella Bru! Then I looked down at my eggs Benedict. Two floppy eggs on top of two small pieces of ham and 12 potato slices. (I asked for no bread) Wow! So I just paid $40 for a breakfast I could have made and I got a side of bitchiness to top it off. I have said for a while I'm done with this place. Today was the final straw. There are too many amazing places to eat in the Sacramento area to deal with over priced, substandard food with a bad attitude. The picture below is of my daughters 8oz chai tea latte for $4.60! OH!
