I absolutely enjoy having breakfast at Black Bear Diner. I normally go to the Arden location, but the Citrus Heights location is closest to me and I decided to check them out for the first time. I walked in and waited less than a minute to be seated. This location is actually way busier than the Arden location, which to me is a great sign. My waitress shows up shortly to take drink orders and to give a few mins to look over the menu. Since I only come here for breakfast I usually only order either the Big Grizz or the Big Bear's choice breakfast. This time I went with the Big Bear's choice. I went with 2 eggs sunny side with sliced avocado, 2 sweet cream pancakes and 2 pieces of bacon. The Citrus Heights location is definitely smaller than the Arden location. It's cozy and nice and quiet. The food is always amazing and I will probably come to this location more often. read more

This place is not good anymore. Their burgers are $17 for frozen patties. I could go next door to McDonald's and get fresh beef for less than half the price. The biscuits and gravy are a joke and possibly a scam. Gravy is just flour and milk, no sausage probably from a bag. The biscuits are basically just Bisquick with no butter. Why are drinks $5? This place used to be worth it but now it's just an overpriced Denny's. Actually Denny's wouldn't forget my silverware. Our waitress did not know how to seat. She kept seating 2 tops at big tables when there was plenty of 2 seaters available. We got seated at a 4 seater for no reason and we had to ask to move. My family and I enjoy eating at Black Bear Diner for breakfast. This was our second visit within a week. We were not greeted when we entered, but were seated right away. The booth was dirty (dust on the ledge) and the table had dried syrup on it. The service was slow although it was not very busy. The waiter was not very attentive as we had repeat our requests. This is a convenient location and I would like to continue eating breakfast there ( my favorite). Please take some time to clean the restaurant and train the staff to be more attentive to the guests. read more

We ordered coffee, two ice teas, a cup of ice, and a glass of milk with the meal. We also ordered biscuits and gravy, hash browns, toast, and cinnamon roll French toast. We received the cinnamon roll French toast accurately. We ended up with two orders of biscuits and gravy and no hash browns. The food was delicious and I ate all of mine, plus a strip of my wife's bacon. It also took more than a few minutes to get the bill, but I could see that our waiter was stretched pretty thin, probably taking on a few too many tables. They looked to be a bit short-handed today. We are two 59 year olds who came to the citrus heights to get some food about 3 months ago, we walked in and the young lady said she will be with us in a minute. there were maybe 6 or 7 customers in there and we never saw her again, we waited and waited by the time we decided to leave it had been 30 minutes and she could clearly see us standing there. I went on a Friday evening thinking that I would try their all you can eat fish and chips. I was greeted after a short wait and taken to my seat. I was asked for my drink order which was promptly delivered. There was a separate room filled with a group that appeared to be a party and I only saw 2 servers for the entire restaurant. I reviewed the menu and decided to try the meat loaf plate. I waited a while for my server to show up to take my order. As I waited for my entree to be delivered, my server brought the salad. During this time, several other customers came in. They ordered and were served and I still had not gotten my order. My server never updated me, though the other customers were sitting in booths all around me. I received my meal after about 40 minutes. Because of that amount of time, I was expecting a freshly baked slice of meatloaf. That was not what I got. I got a few slices of meatloaf which had been griddled to heat them up. Neither the meat loaf nor the gravy were very tasty. The mashed potatoes and the green beans were just okay. I realized that there appeared to be only 2 servers for the entire restaurant and that included having to work the party room. I have no idea what held up the kitchen. Excellent place for breakfast! Customer service is great. I was seated very quickly. I placed my order and it arrived very quickly. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I had the build your own omelet with potatoes and sour dough toast. My omelet was exactly as I ordered (egg whites, ham, mushrooms, spinach and no cheese). It was delicious! From observing over a few times it seems if they have multiple to go orders they hold all of them in the back and wait to bring them up even if they are ready. I am a (almost) daily diner at Black Bear Citrus Heights, so I'm familiar with the servers and most of the other staff. Only a couple of servers understand the importance of their roles in the success of this restaurant, one of which is Katy. She normally walks in to choas, created by prior shifts not finishing their side work. Also, she normally works her shift without another server. She doesn't have time for bathroom breaks or lunch breaks, let alone catching up on getting the work done that the prior shift didn't have time to finish.
