Bella Bru Cafe Review August 02, 2026 Came in around 1:50 PM on a weekend. There was no greeting, not even a simple "hi." It had a very "figure it out yourself" kind of atmosphere. We let that slide and eventually found the printed menu ourselves. The menu clearly stated that breakfast is served until 2 PM, but we were told the breakfast kitchen had already closed early. There was no sign or notice saying this. We only found out from the cashier, who seemed only half attentive. She was still chatting with a coworker while finishing the order of the couple ahead of us and seemed more focused on the conversation than on customers. I ordered the tuna melt. The butter on the grilled white bread left an old, stale aftertaste that I had to wash down with their drip coffee. The sandwich was also poorly balanced. Instead of slicing the avocado properly, they stuffed what looked like half an avocado into it, leaving me with a bulging sandwich that had more avocado than tuna. Compared to a tuna sandwich from Quiznos or Subway at about half the price, this felt like a rip-off. Unfortunately, we still gave them another chance and ordered a slice of carrot cake. We noticed that several customers who ordered after us received their cake much sooner, even though all the server had to do was slice it from the display. Our order was served last, despite being one of the simplest. Overall, the food was overpriced, the service was inattentive, and the experience left a lot to be desired. *Celebrating Woman- owned Bella Bru!* This is a review shouting out about the BEST pastries and coffee drinks which I enjoy whenever I am anywhere near the Carmichael, Bella Bru location! And today was no exception. This is a long-time casual and comfortable cafe which has loyally been serving the neighborhood well. Breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. The Community people count their lucky stars to have Bella Bru (and it's Luna Lounge) providing whatever it is you might want in terms of coffees, bakery items, main food items, wine... all served in a beautiful, modern and clean atmosphere. Dog friendly patio, bike parking and plenty of free public parking too! Wish I lived closer. I would be having my coffee and breakfast weekly in the lovely outdoors! Or my HH wine/cocktails. Service is wonderful! I have always received 5-star Yelp customer service from Bella Bru employees. Definitely service with a smile. I could not resist stopping by today and grabbing an oatmeal and a peanut butter homemade cookie to take home for dessert. They are soooo good! What a great fixture in the Fair Oaks area. For some reason, we always find ourselves passing through the area on our way to someplace or on our way back home. If we can, we always make sure to stop by. The food is great: sandwiches and plates of different kinds, a great coffee bar, and a phenomenal bakery case. My friend and I had a quick lady date Friday evening to catch up and we chose Bella Bru based on the location and ambiance. We were there in time to catch the last few minutes of their happy hour. The happy hour menu features discounts on wine, beer and a few bites. We sat at a comfy booth near the door. Our server was friendly and efficient coming around at just the perfect time. The gentlemen that dropped off our food as also great, offering us extra plates for sharing our dish. I ordered the cab off the happy hour menu. It hit the spot. My friend and I shared the fire roasted artichoke which was cooked perfectly, with a little char just how we like it. The aioli dipping sauce was very flavorful and the perfect compliment. Never a fan of writing unpleasant reviews but I must say what a letdown I experienced from this location and to top it off, it was for my birthday. My girlfriend knows how much I love their tiramisu cake slices, so she decided to put in an order for a whole sheet! When I tell you guys, I was looking forward to this for weeks... just to receive this Tiramisu cake which is NOTHING compared to their in store which I've had multiple times. The cake usually comes pre sliced, with less topping and bigger portions as well. Overall, unhappy with the product and will most likely not be back to repurchase. We celebrated a friend's birthday at Bella Bru in Carmichael. Although the inside was nearly full and rather loud, there was plenty of shaded outside seating where it was much quieter. We were caught off guard by the ordering system. When we arrived, we were told to get a table, which we did, but no one ever brought us a menu or any water. We didn't know that we had to go inside and ask for a menu and a glass of water. You then go back to the counter to order. Two members of our party use walkers, so they were not happy with having to do this part for themselves. It is difficult to carry a glass of water and a menu while pushing your walker at the same time. Our orders arrived in a timely manner; however, my chicken salad was missing the chicken. I searched for it under the lettuce but finally asked a waiter if he could find it. He quickly took my salad to the kitchen and brought it back with a beautifully cooked chicken breast sliced on the top. It was delicious. It appeared from their empty plates, that my friends also enjoyed their food - two ordered pizzas and one a sandwich. The deserts and pastries looked amazing. I may go back to get a few of those someday. read more

So glad my friend recommended we come here. Very spacious restaurant with tasty food. The restaurant is clean, calm, and very nicely decorated. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. I don't understand the negative reviews for this place. It seems like the clientele it attracts are dedicated to this particular joint - as it was mostly older folks enjoying each other's company over some delicious food. The price of the food versus the size and quality of the portions are actually very good. I enjoyed the vegetarian options- a veggie omelette, lemon poppy seed bagel, and a chocolate chip cookie. Yum! I'm docking a star for two reasons. One... the seat layout is kinda weird, just cramped and cluttered, making it hard for my partner and I to get comfortable. Since we have a service dog, we did have to kinda sit awkwardly. Also, the fountain drinks were unfortunately flat, not having any bubbles. Besides those little details, I think this place is worth a shot if you want to try some yummy breakfast food and pastries. They are delicious. read more

This location has lovely seating. The large outdoor patio is for Luna Lounge--table service only. The large indoor seating area is for Bella Bru counter service only. The Bella Bru outdoor seating is surrounded by jasmine and the perfume is a bit overwhelming in such a small space. What I didn't like was that everything was laced with sugar. The crust on the quiche was too sweet as was the champagne vinaigrette. There was so much sugar in everything that it messes with my blood sugar levels. I ate everything because I was headed to work and needed the fuel, but the sugar left me feeling in less than stellar shape. read more

Here is my two cents on the quality quantity and taste of my order. I picked up an order three bagels . They were California bagels. not New York style. Each bagel was fresh, but not so tasty . The one for onions and garlic, was more mild than should've been.. What I was really unhappy with they only gave 1 ounce of cream cheese for each bagel . 1 ounce was merely a Schmeer that would cover each side of the bagel . They have Sunday fun day all you can happy hour all day. . After 7pm on a Sunday they close the main dining room and open the patio and bar area. I was like what??? . Back patio - so classy, simple, fancy and such a good time to have some happy hour pizza and appetizers with friends and just catch up. . We had the mushroom pizza which was a good sharing with 4 people, so 1 PC per person was perfect on a hot day which we weren't too hungry. . The chicken arugula spinach salad with goat cheese was a special we had and found it light and refreshing on a warm evening. . Overall the service was great. I would come back and enjoy some more days in the patio here. The vibe was so relaxing. Oh and the teramisu looked so good! I think I need to come back for that slice of cake. Saturday, 7/06/2024 - with today being 111 degree, it was just too hot to cook. So... we went and tried Bella Bru Cafe. Address is 5038 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael, CA 95608. It's located at the corner of Arden and Fair Oaks Blvd. There are other businesses in this little Plaza. Matteo's restaurant is a few doors down. Upon arrival... Pros 1) lots of parking. Nice big parking lot. 2) has indoor and outdoor seating. 3) cashier was very nice. 4) clean Cafe. The table we sat at was clean. 5) we ordered French Dip, burger, side salad and sweet potato fries. They give you a stand with a letter. Then they bring you your food. 6) foods were good. Bread was pretty thick in French Dip meal. Burger was cooked medium rare and good. 7) they had a little sports bar-ish in the back of the restaurant. 8) there were lots of goodies you can buy if you have a sweet tooth: cookies, pastries, cheese cakes, tiramisu, bread, etc. 9) there are two separate bathrooms for men or women. Clean. Cons 1) there was only one cash register opened when we arrived. So only 1 line. 2) you have to go back in that one line to wait to ask to get liquid refills. At least I did and I saw 2 other customers did too. Conclusion Cute little restaurant. I didn't like having to get back in the same ordering line just to ask for a soda refill and water refill. But foods were ok, desserts tempting (I had self control today), bathroom clean, staff nice, lots of drinks on the menu, and nice big parking lot. I liked this place. It was simple. Didn't take long to get our meals. It wasn't loud so we were able to hear each other talk. read more

This place is simply the greatest all around restaurant in Carmichael. I have absolutely no clue what the negative reviews on this place are talking about. The service is exceptional, the coffee is amazing and the food is fresh and always incredibly good. There isn't a bad thing on the menu and it is consistent across many years for us at this point. We've been eating here for 15 years and never once had a bad experience or had food we wouldn't order again. My favorites are the artichoke, their burger, their club sandwich, their Cobb salad, and just about anything they have in special. 10/10 would recommend. I was craving an iced mocha today so I made a special stop on my way home. The girl at the register wasn't really interested in more than the bare minimum taking my order. It was a surprise because the last few times I've been in, service has been great. I didn't have to wait too long for my coffee, but I was disappointed with my coffee. I didn't really realize until I was outside that the chocolate was barely mixed in. I'm also not even sure there was coffee in it - it tasted like chocolate milk. I was disappointed to say the least. I don't normally leave reviews but I found the service to be consistently awesome. I don't think I've had much of the sit-down food but the items from the bakery and display are usually a delight and I do enjoy my morning Freezo. I recently popped over on my birthday and I left with a smile that lasted a few blocks and a feeling of being seen. They had my drink for me before I had even finished ordering. It felt like magic to someone who doesn't have a lot of people and isn't used to being a familiar face. Went there for Mother's Day. One of the worst experiences that I've had at a restaurant. Standing for 10 minutes because sign says "wait to be seated "' Flag someone down who says wait to be seated. Five minutes later a wait staff says "go sit anywhere ". Go inside. Twenty minutes to get waited on, open tables. Get food in reasonable time. But it took another 30 minutes to get bill and to go box. Terrible, just terrible. Altogether, about an hour of just waiting. No apology, not even a thank you for your patience. Nothing. Very disappointed. I've been there several times for breakfast and it's never been like that. And breakfast is a lot busier than it was for this dinner. It is my go to post run brunch spot! And will continue to be for as long as possible. The vibes are awesome and maybe I'm biased. My go to is always their breakfast bagels add ham and avacado! Get a protein shake on the side, chocolate of course! And it never fails me. It's all made well. The other parts of their menu are really good! Have tried their "huevos rancheros" and although they're not my moms they do the dish fairly well. Chorizo burrito is another great option. I seriously love it here. I can appreciate a location that is as consistent and as good as here!The employees are so sweet and work to give you the best experience. Had lunch with a friend on a Thursday and the place was very busy. Sat in the back bar area because it was quieter and they have several big screens. Service was from a sole bartender and it was excellent. Food was "Meh", basically you can get their menu items at just about any pub/coffee shop/local restaurant. This was my husband's and my first visit. We dined in for breakfast and placed our orders at the counter. I enjoyed their veggie quiche which was very light, fluffy and delicious with their homemade crust. I chose the side of red potatoes which were very flavorful. My husband ordered French toast which was sprinkled with powdered sugar and covered with sliced fresh strawberries and oh so tasty! We each ordered the Light Roast coffee but it was much stronger than we're used to so had to sweeten it up with a pack of sugar. The atmosphere was very inviting with pretty chandelier lights and comfortable booths and tables and wonderful air conditioning. The staff behind the counter and serving/bussing were very friendly and welcoming. Before leaving, we checked out their lunch menu which we'll try next time and we bought two pastries for my Mother's Day breakfast tomorrow. They also feature a bountiful Mother's Day brunch. Poor customer service. No greeting, no explanation of how the restaurant works. They don't take you order, you order and pay at the counter where there is the opportunity to "tip" before food is served. I ordered a coffee was told to wait on the side while it was prepared. Another customer asked for hot sauce. The "barista" told customer to get it from OUTSIDE?? She then took my prepared coffee OUTSIDE to assist in finding the hot sauce! The food is bland at best. Loved loved loved this place for a nice spot to do work at and have a nice coffee and something small to eat. Very large inside and staff were very friendly. Ordered coffee and just sat for a few hours doing homework and enjoying the ambiance. Will definitely be coming back for a full service meal and when I do I'll update review but until then still a very nice area to go to breakfast from their coffee alone. I find it incredibly disappointing the policy is to wait inside for your drink when all your friends are sitting outside; because they bring food to the table but not drinks. I was completely separated from my party And then the food was brought out and I still hadn't gotten my drink. I asked the surly looking lady if she could bring my drink outside and she said yes. We had finished our meal and I still hadn't gotten my drink. I came in and asked about it and they had forgotten 10 minutes later I asked about it again and they still had forgotten about it 10 minutes later I asked about it again and the guy recognized I had been there a while at that point and took pitty on my soul and offered me a drink on the spot. Didn't realize my Togo thing was upside down for my food and they have a tiny hole at the top and food liquid got all over my favorite shirt. So I was slumped there, dejected, waiting for my drink- wet, dirty, and sad. Oh and another thing. I had to throw out a part of my Thai noodle salad, because there was a horrific steak knife handle stuck inside my noodles. The handle was SO OLD with so many little openings and crevices from age and fray- touching all up in my noodles. The handle was SOFT TOO - I just know it must be rolling in bacteria. My husband said his drippy Reuben sandwich was bland. The lavender latte wasn't the best either, but the Thai noodles and lemon bar were pretty good. read more
