In this case, this because of the lack of service not being provided by this bakery The two workers that work there and the Baker all lack luster and the product is very inconsistent. I have to return most items, especially when they're undercooked or overcooked. This place was a little tricky to find, but it had a good variety of breakfast sandwiches, pastries and coffee. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, which came one with freezing cold egg. When I asked for it to be heated again, then it came out with burnt bread. So, I'm thinking maybe the insides could be heated first and then the bread added. If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. Today, I came to pick up salad for lunch. The dish costs $25 plus tip. All i got was DRY arugula, almost no dressing (in fact, I dont think there was any), 2 ribbons of shaved beet, 3 ribbons of not very successfully shaved carrot, 2 small pieces of halloumi and 3 small cubes of peaches. Please note that I am literally counting the ingrediencies because that's how little food this was. Oh, did I mention that the restaurant only had few people and it took almost half an hour to make this. Very sad, local spot for me but I may never come back. My coworker had high praises for Belle Epicurean and I would have to completely agree. We went on a chilly morning, but I was told that when it gets warmer out, they arrange outdoor seating, which I definitely look forward to! Surprised that I've never been here, because I absolutely adore the decor and set up in this cafe. There is a large display case with fresh pastries that I'll be back to try. I was told their brioche is fantastic. I ordered just a soy latte and I really enjoyed it. Overall, this is a great spot! Holy! I'm not a baker and I'm sure this has a name or something, but when the outside of the broche is cooked just right so the sugar hardens just enough to made it chewy but not at all dry. I love that! What a great little find. read more

I have had some goodies from Belle Epicurean before but never had been to its store at all. I was around the area to attend an event and found their store to be open still in early afternoon, so I decided to stopped by. The store itself is quite small but definitely has a charming European flair to it. There were some croissants and brooches left but I have always preferred savory over sweet, I got myself the last rosemary pesto brioche and a soda and was really happy I went with that choice. The brioche was slightly flakey on the outside but super moist and soft inside. I took a bite..got carried on by rosemary aroma and I immediately felt satisfied with the choice I made. Overall, this cafe is good!! I would love to stop by again. The brioche was a bit small but I think it was just $3ish so it was quite reasonable given a nice location+awesome taste they offer. P.S. Oh my flaky goodness. Belle Epicurean has literally the best pastries I have EVER eaten - and I've eaten my way from Seattle to Italy to the middle of the Pacific Ocean. So far I have tried their turkey chèvre breakfast sandwich, their twice baked almond croissant, twice baked pistachio, multiple macarons (my favorite is the rose), their chocolate chip cookies, every single flavor of brioche, their fresh raspberry triangle, and their summer lemon cake. Yes you read that correctly. I have tried every one of those. Lately my go to is their twice baked pistachio croissant (see photos). It's flaky, warm, rich, but not too rich - and has pockets of tiny chocolate chips that dance on the tongue in every bite. I don't even know how I wound up in a place to have such an appreciation for all things pastry, but somehow Belle Epicurean took my tastebuds and sent them on a horse ride at sunset. It's that romantic. I'm especially keen on their efficient staff, because every time I'm in they all remember my name, the space is clean, the music is at a perfect volume, and it's a nice little break away from the otherwise busy monotonous hustle of the city. The unassuming storefront opens up into a beautiful classy small coffee shop with delicious smells circulating throughout the space. My husband and I stopped in here for coffee and a quick breakfast bite on our way to the Seattle Art Museum. Choosing what I wanted to eat was tough! There were so many pastries which looked delicious and their offerings for breakfast sandwiches also looked tasty. I settled in on a ham breakfast sandwich and was very satisfied. Between the ample melted cheese and soft bun, my taste buds were in heaven. The only thing that would have made it 110% perfect was to have a runny yoke (I know...personal preference that I will ask for next time). Belle Epicurean is a French bakery/cafe fronting one of the street spaces of the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle on 4th Avenue. Compared to other nearby French bakeries like Bakery Nouveau and Le Panier, this spot is more low-key. You won't find the long lines at those places here. The food and pastry offerings here are a bit more upscale in price and the selection is not as great as the aforementioned establishments. The bakery selection here is limited to pastries and small desserts. You won't find breads or cakes here like at other French bakeries. Rather the focus seems to be on coffee, pastries and cafe fare like sandwiches, salads and soup. They do have some unique offerings that you wouldn't find at other places. I got a croissant ($2.95), but also a pastry called anise mousseline ($2.95). The croissant was good once I re-baked it the next morning for that crispy taste. The anise mousseline is essentially a brioche, though the flavors of the anise really come through when you are eating this buttery treat. While I took my baked goods to go, I feel the ambiance here is a bit dull. It is one of those places to silently enjoy your pastry and coffee at. But it is a bit too quiet for my taste, like a library. The Yelp listing says there is free Wi-Fi, though I didn't confirm this. If they do, this would be a decent place in downtown to study at. Though the space is on the smaller side. I prefer the selection at other French bakeries in Seattle over Belle Epicurean. However if you are looking for a French coffee and pastry place in downtown Seattle, this would be the spot. read more

Wow, this place is gonna be a new workday staple for me. All the pastries I've tried were delicious. I'm a sucker for pumpkin ANYTHING, I was surprised when I got a pumpkin croissant and it was filled with actual pumpkin puree and spices inside. And not just a little. A very generous amount. And loaded with pumpkin seeds on top. I tried brioche buns, a feillete (full disclosure, no idea if I spelled that right), a quiche and a breakfast sandwich. And that was just the first week! I consider myself fairly lucky - I don't have many places that offer such yummy pastries within walking distance of my office. Oh, but Belle Epicurean is a mere hop, skip, and jump away. It's a good thing that it's uphill from me or I would go there more often. Yes, we've already established that I'm lazy. Like the Madison Park location, this location offers fantastic coffee (always a plus). The baked goods are definitely of the same quality - croissants of all types, macarons, and other delectable treats are available in the case. My only complaint is that the selection is smaller. Also, be aware that they cater to the downtown crowd, which means if you head over right after lunch on the weekend, their selection may be even smaller than usual. The storefront is very appealing, with glass windows available for you to sit and people watch. The inside is very clean and well kept. Went here for a quick lunch and ordered the w/ red bell pepper piperade and goat cheese. The service wasn't bad or good but I think this depends on who you get. The first lady who took my order was very patient and friendly when I asked for suggestions. When I came back for my cookie, the next person asked me to wait while she was doing something with the register. I wish she was giving me money... Croissant: flaky and warm and the cheese was perfect, but I didn't care for the red pepper piperade, it tasted like pizza sauce to me. Not their fault, just my own preference and hatred towards a french hot-pocket. After I ate my croissant sandwich, I sipped my vanilla latte and savored my Belgian chocolate chip cookie. I cannot stress how impressed I was by this little bakery/cafe. It's located right in the heart of downtown and seems like it is enjoyed by both locals and tourists (like me). It was my last day in Seattle, so I wanted to go big which means I start the day with a million calories and then just keep going from there. Eating my way into oblivion and then plopping myself into the late night plane ride home. Bliss. One Ratatouille, egg, and cheese on your heavenly brioche bun, please. One pain au chocolate, please. One coffee, please. Who was I sharing this with? Nobody. There are no words to describe the perfection that was this breakfast sandwich. Calling it a breakfast sandwich probably makes some French folks roll in their grave. This is not a McDonalds before 10am type of deal. The bun was so so soft and buttery without being overboard. The egg and cheese were cooked to perfection. The yolk still soft inside. The herbs were strong, but not overpowering. Chocolate croissant? Just as amazing. Flaky, but soft and kind of creamy inside with just enough chocolate chips. I was so fortunate to enjoy three completely sunny days with clear views of Mt. Tiny little tables, benches and chairs for you to sit at, dainty cups and saucers and delicious, freshly baked nibblies all combine to give you a little slice of France. We got the mini opera cake, mini coconut cream cake, French butter shortbread cookie and a madeleine. The cakes were unbelievably moist and sweet without being overwhelmingly rich. The shortbread cookie managed to simultaneously be the same dry texture of traditional shortbread and moist. The madeleine was kind of lackluster and forgettable. I stumbled upon Belle Epicurean on my way to work and decided to pick up a breakfast pastry. The shop is adorable and comfortable. Perfect for an intimate yet casual experience, perhaps a first date! The selection on breakfast items were sparse, but it may have been because it was a Saturday morning and downtown is dead in the AM weekends. I scanned the items and decided on Le Feuillette, a savory tart filled with ham and gruyere. A bit pricey at $6.75 but it was pretty delicious. Lots of yummy, woody cheese and a generous portion of ham. The tart itself was a bit under baked on the bottom, but it definitely didn't stop me from finishing it within five minutes. The service was okay, efficient but not stellar. This mediocre staff review may only be because I had a very brief interaction with the guy, but In my experience, you really learn to love a place when the person helping you is excited to be there and holds some sort of passion for the products they are offering. It wasn't too flakey (I hate overly flakey croissants because it gets messy), perfect amount of butter, and the tart berries perfectly complimented the glazed crust. The coffee was self-serve, which made me skeptical...but it's Caffe Vitta and was super fresh and not bitter. The staff was very friendly, but one of my complaints is that the noise level gets pretty high here, especially with the volume of the customers. You must try this place. It's small in the inside so not the greatest for big groups, but perfect for a one on one coffee date. I learned that so far, I'm not too impressed with anything but the macarons and the service I received the day I wrote my original review. So I'm giving it 3.5 stars. I've had the Walla Walla onion and bacon feuillette and the croque madame. Very flavorful, but nothing I would seriously die for. They served my croque madame with an over hard egg, which made me a bit sad. I still liked it, though, especially the crusty, burned cheese parts. Service seemed tired, and enthusiasm seemed forced, even though I tipped more than 20% and still got my own silverware and stuff. I'll still be back for more macarons. read more

Every month I grab the free Seattle "Where" magazine from Pacific Place's concierge rotating wooden rack. Belle Epicurean was on the downtown dining list. I walked into the café and a line was already formed. I noticed pastries in the glass case. I saw laminated menus on the counter and decided to grab one. I ordered the Warm Pepper Turkey on a Rosemary Pesto Bun. They gave me a table marker and I picked a spot right next to the window. My lunch came to me on a plate along with a napkin, fork, and knife. I've never tasted anything like it; I really enjoyed it. I bussed my own table and decided since my lunch was so good I need to try their dessert. I got back in line and ordered a small Boca Framboise to go. I took it back to work. I cut it in half and shared it with my co-worker. My co-worker finished their half. It was so rich! I couldn't handle it. After that first bite I could only eat the raspberry Italian meringue topping. I guess the next time I go back I'll have to try something less extreme. read more

The very crunchy outside was made possible by overcooking it. It leaves a bad feeling in your mouth. I imagine this would be tasty if it wasn't basically burnt. Pear Tart: Good! Served room temp (meh), buttery rich crust, soft lemon/pear center. While it's not lemon, I think lemon juice must have been squeezed on the pear to prevent too much browning. Between Meh and OK. it tastes similar to a standard diner coffee that's been pre brewed for at least an hour and kept warm. Seemed close to a medium roast, but didn't have much flavor or wow factor. Tea: Brand: The Republic of Tea/Ginger Peach Black Tea. Good! The use a ton of water (for here) to 1 tea round. But it performs well, thanks to the added peach flavoring. It's smooth, warm and satisfying. Not too sweet. The ginger gives it a Lille pep. read more

He had the brioche special of the day, which was some kind of peach ginger flavour and looked lovely. I also had a mocha latte, which was extra chocolatey and creamy.
