I have a soft spot for Alaskan Sourdough Bakery. I found them decades ago after moving to Seattle. I love sourdough and finding a place that has been making sourdough since 1897 sounds amazing. I will say the exact quality varies a bit from visit to visit. Sometimes the texture (including outer-shell hardness) is perfect. Sometimes that sour yeast taste is so deliciously pungent. Sometimes, not so perfect. The inside has several tables and a good resting place away from sun or rain. Their décor is that old timey Yukon miner vibe that has not changed for all these decades; after all, it is insider Miner's Landing. Service is friendly, especially when they are not overwhelmed. During the latest visit, we bought: - Jalapeno loaf - So, so, so good. We were going to start with just one slice and bring the rest home. Instead, it was so delicious that we ate half a loaf and made ourselves stop to have some later. Highly recommend this one. - For nostalgic purposes, I bought a small roll, too. Now $3, I think I initially found them at $0.75 (so dating myself). I discourage buying this size the most. They are more difficult to prevent hardening quickly. It is really good with butter though, which they do offer. Thank you for that. - For the sugar fix, I bought a chocolate chip cookie. Now $4. Theirs is a homey goodness, soft enough and toasty enough. This was enjoyable, too. It might be better for those who like a toastier cc cookie (I do). read more

I followed my nose after riding sasquatch mountain. I LOVE sourdough, the smell wafting through the air had me super excited. Everything looked and sounded so delicious. I settled for just a mini round. I'm thankful I didn't order more because it was the hardest rock of bread I have ever eaten. The flavor was GREAT! Although, I had to suck on the bread a bit to be able to chew it. Even the center was crunchy like it was baked 4 days prior and left out. If it was fresh i'm sure it would have been one of the best sourdough breads I have eaten. The place was kind of dirty. Dirty tables everywhere with jam and things on them. Kind of a disappointment. I'm hoping if I make it back out this way things will have improved to get the experience i was hoping for. read more

Nice local spot for breakfast, lunch or to pick up bread and pastries. I got a small sourdough round which they offered to slice for me. Slicing was great as I could use it immediately for sandwiches or snacking on. Medium sized store with seating in the heart of the waterfront. On the weekends they do a jalapeño loaf. They weren't busy when I went in around 11:30 during the week. read more

By the time we went back around 1:40, majority of their baked goods were sold out. When you walk in - it's not super impressive. But because it's called sourdough - we were drawn in by that and the idea of having a warm soup on a cold and rainy afternoon. We were delightfully surprised on how good it was. We had the clam chowder bread bowl and I consider us as clam chowder and sourdough bread connoisseurs based on how much we have eaten of both. Both were super good. The bread was soft and tasted really good. The chowder had small cubes of potato and big portions of clams - not very creamy which we like. We didn't even have to add pepper, which we normally would. This was very very good. It's just a walk up to the counter and order. But service was nice. They use an egg wash on the roll which had a strange flavor that you have to adjust to (reminds me of Twiglets from England) but it also made both a crispy and crunchy crust. We also got the chowder which was solid. Was it pricey? A little, but it's on the waterfront a stones throw away from the Ferris wheel, so what do you expect? read more

We had just arrived at the Waterfront area via the ferry and wanted to pick up a quick bite before we headed to the airport. Since we didn't want to eat at a sit down restaurant we stopped at the Sourdough Bakery and ordered a full pesto chicken panini. Sandwich was okay and a little messy. It would have been nice if they used a full piece of lettuce and a full tomato on the sandwich. They were both cut into smaller pieces so they kept falling out of the sandwich which is what made it somewhat messy to eat. On the plus side their sourdough bread was very good. read more

I perused the offerings and realized that I couldn't eat anything. I loved the old pictures on the wall and got a kick out of them. But there was nothing for me to eat. The people working there were very nice. I'm surprised that there weren't more people eating inside. They had plenty of tables available but only three or so had people eating at them. My husband hates eating in front of me when I'm hungry so he walked around a bit with his food. We sat down and I insisted that he eat something and he did. He liked his meal and thought it was good. So, the OK is for the fact that they do vegan, and do it well, but gluten-free is something else and I missed not having that option. Honestly, I wouldn't trust them if they were gluten-free, so I took that out of the occasion. They do have some alt-milk options for coffee drinks and that's fine. My family and I came on a Saturday around 11am. It's a small little bakery located in a "strip mall" looking location. Cute old fashion decor. It's not a large place so seating may be an issue if it gets busy. Their blueberry muffin was amazing! We also ordered the breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon and it was delicious! As several reviews have mentioned, we stopped here because we needed a snack while walking along the pier. We bought a loaf of the sourdough bread to share. And we ended up liking it so much that we went back and got two more loaves to bring home with us. The sourdough's really good, they have a wide variety of menu items, including sandwiches. However, I can only speak to the quality of the sourdough bread which was absolutely wonderful. It's conveniently located right in the pier just close to the street. The wait staff was incredibly helpful, friendly, and welcoming. And the prices for the bread, especially considering how good it was, were very reasonable. There are places to sit, but if you're looking for a really great atmosphere just remember that this is located at the pier and it's more of like a stop and snack / lunch place. Will definitely be stopping in for another loaf of bread the next time we're down at the pier. read more

We needed a snack while cruising the pier and stumbled upon the Alaskan Sourdough Bakery and snatched a chowder bread bowl and extra round for later. The chowder was awesome! It didn't need any additional salt or pepper, flavor was just right. Now the bread, it was phenomenal. The extra round we purchased was enjoyed a few days later and the consistency was spot on! We've endured a lot of sourdough from Alaska to the West Coast. This bread lacks the hard crust of typical rounds which tears up the top of your mouth, so it's always a joy to eat two days later. You don't have to throw it in microwave to soften it. We have never had dough so chewy on the outside yet not hard. Outstanding! Alaskan Sourdough puts the Boudin's at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco to shame. The restaurant was crowded with people ordering and quite charming. The employees were professional and accommodating. No issues there. The only downfall thus far, we can't locate where you can purchase online to be shipped to us at home. The macarons were a hit for all. My kids loved the Sourdough Bread, I was not a fan. The staff wasn't very friendly or welcoming when we walked in. It wasn't crowded. Also, just a heads up they do not accept $50 or $100 bills. read more

We had scheduled a Ferry Cruise on a Saturday morning and were looking for a quick Breakfast around 9:30AM before the excursion and discovered Alaskan Sourdough Bakery. Most places were not open until 10AM. We peeked inside and good News; The Bakery was open and they were serving made to order Breakfast not just pastries :). The Hubby and I were only slightly hungry and shared the Golden scrambler which included sourdough french toast. It was a satisfying, quick breakfast. We would have like to try the breads, muffins and pastries, cause they looked delicious. However, we were leaving shortly that same day on a 7 day Cruise and Cruises are food feasts on the water! The Bakery has a rustic atmosphere and there was a slight line when I visited for breakfast. A few minutes of waiting and I was able to order a marionberry muffin that they pulled from their display case and took a seat at one of their small indoor tables. We lived in Seattle years ago for work and I found this sourdough to be the best I'd ever tasted. Crusty and a great sourdough taste made it perfect for breakfast toast with strong coffee. Just this month, I was gifted a loaf of their sourdough and was reminded of how this was so much better than the sourfough I get at supermarkets. Flew into town today with my Mom for our cruise which leaves on Saturday. We have two nights in Seattle which allows us ample time to try places we have wanted to go to that we didn't quite get to in 2022. Friendly service provided by Myla (sp?) the cashier. As first time visitors, we had already thoroughly perused the Menu online and already knew what we wanted to order immediately after we walked in. Had a half-order of a tasty Chicken Pesto Panini(not pictured, unfortunately), a cup of Tomato Basil Bisque with two slices of Sourdough, and a giant chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was perfect in every aspect from the texture to the flavor with chunks of chocolate goodness. When our order was ready, she called it out and we had to retrieve it at the counter. What really blew me away was the taste of the sourdough. The texture, depth, and contrast was duly noted, and truly shined through with the pesto mayo, arugula, tomato, provolone cheese, and chicken breast. I love a good chocolate chip cookie, but this bakery has, for my taste - the absolute BEST cookie in their Gold Rush cookie!! It has macadamia nuts and coconut flakes in lieu of walnuts, and has a lot of chocolate chips! Try one, and I think you'll be back for more like me! read more
