My friends and I had a 10/10 meal at Belli last night. We ordered the shaved Brussels sprouts salad, calamari, and chef's board for appetizers. What I'd really come back for is our mains: black spaghetti with crab and chili, rigatoni Bolognese, and short rib ragu. my neighborhood go-to for dinner! we had initially come here for brunch our first time and weren't big fans of the food (good boozy option), so we took a break from this place. A few months later, we decided to come for dinner and wow, it's become an instant favorite for my boyfriend and I. Our favs are the calamari, grandmas Bolognese and black spaghetti with blue crab. BRUNCH. This is our regular brunch spot. An undiscovered treasure right off the Clinton Washington stop that never has a wait l, even for parties of 4-6. Get there early and expect incredibly prompt service, constant refills and quick food. I prefer the vegetable frittata and my husband prefers the waffle. Went here the other week for a casual date night with the boyfriend. Atmosphere was cute and quaint, and it was empty late Sunday night. Sadly, service was quite poor given the empty restaurant. I had to flag down the waiter to tell them we were ready to order, had to ask them for a water refill, asked them for a to-go box twice, and for the bill. Service aside, the food was really just mediocre. Fine for the price we paid, but nothing special. Simple but absolutely delicious Italian restaurant. Visited twice, tried different pastas - all very delightful. The blue crab spaghetti was fiery - I mean mouth-wateringly spicy. The spaghetti with shrimp was equally yummy - fresh, bouncy shrimp with homemade spaghetti, cooked at the most desirable degree of chewiness. Fried calamari - I just could not stop eating them. This has become my go to Italian spot within walking distance. It doesn't blow me away but it rarely disappoints. Not to say it hasn't, but only once. The prices are fantastic. I love what they offer for the value. The Polenta, Carpaccio, Mozzarella, Crostini and Prosciutto are all excellent appetizers to start yourself off with. I'd highly recommend splitting them amongst you and your fellow guests. For main courses I 'd recommend the Fettuccine Al Funghi, the Gnocchi (which comes with duck ragu) and the Pappardelle Al Ragu (which is a braised short rib ragu) What really has me coming there these days is the Brunch. Lasting from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm, so you have a big window to make it. It's only $17.95 which includes your meal and two hours of drinking. Drink selections are bloody marys, blood orange mimosas and bellinis. While you can't go wrong with any of the options for you meal, my go to has become the Egg Norwegian. It's poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. Check out this must hit up spot which is helping make that area of Fulton a great night all in one. read more

Totally disappointing experience. Came here before a concert at the Barclays Center with four girlfriends and will not be back. Two of us arrived half an hour before our reservation just to hang at the bar and have a glass of wine. When we got there, there was no one there and the staff were hanging out talking amongst themselves - totally fine. But we received dirty looks upon sitting down and not even a hello. It was like we were inconveniencing the bartender. It was also happy hour, and we weren't given that option - so spent twice the price on pretty average wine. We are pretty friendly girls and this bartender was just rude. When we moved to our table, the waitress was nice and seemed like she was doing her best to handle a busy dining room. However, the man clearing our plates (who looked like a manager?) was also rude. I asked politely for some olive oil and as he walked away he said "your waitress will be back". My sister asked him for a side plate when he brought her main course and he ignored her too. On to the food. Don't order the cheese plate - it was awful. Not even sure if the cheese was fresh! To be fair, the fontina flatbread was great. We should have stuck to a couple of those...the seafood risotto was totally bland. No taste to it at all. Service really is everything - especially in a city like NYC where there a ton of awesome options for dinner. If we had been greeted warmly and made feel welcome, we probably would have overlooked the terrible food and I wouldn't have been compelled to write this. "Want to have pasta for dinner tonight, E?" A simple question that I ask my husband and immediately you see his eye light up. We dined here after a Yelp Elite event of making pasta and we were very excited in trying out the homemade pasta. We ordered the Eggplant Rigatoni and the Butternut Ravioli and a starter of the fried polenta. The friend polenta was nicely charred on the sides with a heaping serving of a creamy mushroom sauce. But what stole the show were the pasta dishes. The pasta was al dente and chewy. The ingredients used really stood out and made it such a great dish. We ate it all. We were pleasantly surprised by the food and the great price. Would definitely come back and would love to try out its sister restaurants as well. read more

OK I normally don't update a review only a week later, but I have to move Belli Osteria up to five stars. We took some friends last Saturday night and these folks outdid themselves. Our waiter was quick and friendly, our orders came pretty fast and the owners were very smiley, warm and inviting. We ordered the grilled calamari appetizer, lasagna, rainbow trout with brussels sprouts and the special seafood pappardelle. I can't remember when I've had such amazing calamari. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. The lasagna and trout were also wonderful. But the seafood pappardelle was RAVED about by our dates. They were happy about the large pieces of seafood (usually skimpy in most restaurants) and the excellent flavor. My hubby never comments on restaurant food but this time he had to say something. I am SOLD on Belli Osteria and so happy they're here. read more

Just moved to Clinton Hill and this was one of the places I'd bookmarked on yelp for Italian food. Came here on a Friday night around 7, tables were only about half full. Cute but sparse decor, whatever this place lacks in ambience they make up for in flavor. We shared the shaved Brussels sprout salad with Marcona almonds and pecorino with citrus dressing. It was fresh, bright, and hearty. They also served complimentary bread with a delicious fresh made marinara sauce. My husband ordered the lasagna, and while it was still cold in the center (they reheated it for us no problem), it was seriously the best lasagna either of us had ever eaten. All the elements worked together flawlessly: flavorful meat sauce that wasn't too greasy or salty, slightly sweet tomato sauce, just the right amount of crispy burnt-ness on the corners. I had the mushroom pasta. I love anything with mushrooms and this dish did not disappoint. I could immediately smell the nutmeg in the light cream sauce, instant indication for me that they know what they are doing here. Add some cracked black pepper and a dash of parmesan and I was in heaven. Solid Italian fare, no frills just excellent flavor. Not to mention great price points. Our entire dinner with two pasta dishes, salad, and a glass of sangria was about $43. I was delighted to see that they deliver. Next time I have a craving for some pasta I will definitely be calling Belli. read more

Belli has my heart forever! Belli has been our fallback spot twice when we haven't been able to wait out the line at Emily's across the street. It's so easy to find an ok Italian restaurant but Belli is actually exceptional. I've had both merely good and also amazing entrees there before; the pappardelle was delicious. Their happy hour offers are great. The ambiance is always nice and I've never been here when it's too crowded. Every meal I've had here, from the flatbread pizza to the squid ink pasta was a revelation. Even crazier...it's not expensive. This was a great experience. I was a little hesitant because it is on the side of Fulton that is a little less gentrified but everything was amazing. We were a party of 14, and we had our own private little area/ room to be loud and rowdy. We ordered a bunch of apps, the shrimp,the calamari , cheese plates (fig Jam was outrageous), and the butternut squash with buffalo mozzarella. Everyone scarfed down the appetizers, there was nothing left! For dinner my boyfriend and I ordered the parpadelle with a short rib ragu, the lamb ragu gnocchi, and black spaghetti with crab meat. Went here (couple) for dinner several times. The grilled calamari was amazing, the scallops special was fantastic, the salads are good, and the duck ragu is incredible. The waiter was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive, but not annoyingly so. There is a collection of tables separate from the bar, which keeps the noise level down so it's easy to have a quiet conversation. The whole menu is very reasonably priced as well, most items $10-15. Did not need to make a reservation the few times we went, the size of the restaurant allowed for our choice of seating each time. One of our favorite places to dine in Brooklyn!! Definitely recommended for the casual night out or even a celebratory meal. Jeans or dressed up, doesn't matter, just the way it should be. read more

Never ordering from this place again. And it's solely because of the management. I've never been treated so poorly. My order arrived 10 minutes late and without the extra sauce I requested, so I called the restaurant and politely asked if they could compensate me in some way, since I was a loyal customer and ordered from them about once a week (I even ordered from them yesterday). The manager came on the phone and could not stop focusing on the fact that they normally charge for extra sauce at the restaurant. He felt he shouldn't give me anything, since they normally gave me the sauce for free in my delivery order. I explained that I did not get what I ordered and it was late, so I wondered if there is something he could do for me. He said, "Wait, are you calling because your food was late or because you didn't get the extra sauce." It was as if I was taking a test and answering incorrectly would cause me to get nothing. I said both and he said, "Well how about this, I'll give you a discount this time, but from now on I'm going to charge you for extra sauce EVERY TIME." He was basically yelling at me at this point. I explained that I had no problem paying for extra sauce in the first place and had he put a box to check on his Seamless page where you pay more money for extra sauce, I would have happily paid for it. In the end he said he didn't owe me anything and I was appalled at the way he was talking to me as a loyal customer, so I hung up and tried to call Seamless to see what they could do. Normally, their procedure is to call the restaurant and get permission for a refund and of course the restaurant wasn't willing. They actually told me I would only get a refund if I could give them back the food. Since the food was already late and since I was on hold with Seamless for about thirty minutes, of course I had eaten it by then. I recommend never giving your money to this horrible manager who knows nothing about customer service. I hope he is not the owner, but if not, I hope the actual owners know how the manager is treating their loyal customers. Completely unacceptable. UPDATE: The owner did indeed call me to "apologize", a.k.a. ask me to take my Yelp review down. Before he called to "hear my side of the story" he already had his mind made up about what happened, so my comments fell on deaf ears. I was very clear about the fact that I was happy to pay for the sauce and I was not upset about the lateness or the order being incorrect, but I was mad about how I was treated when I called. The owner, like the manager the previous day, could only focus on the sauce for some reason, despite the fact that I repeated my issue several times and was very clear. He said the restaurant feeds his family. I re-emphasized that I was happy to feed his family and I've been feeding his family every week for the past several months. I tried explaining to him that he can call Seamless and ask them to add a box to check when you order an item to add extra sauce for $2, but he wouldn't listen to me. Again, I was happy to pay and I was trying to help him with something technical (I work in technology) that would help him "feed his family". I resent his comments about my ulterior motives. I make good money and I just want to be treated fairly as a customer who ordered from this restaurant every week. I have plenty of 5 star reviews on here and I make it a point to give credit where credit is due. I never asked for a full refund until the end of my conversation with the owner when he asked me to take down my Yelp review. I said I would not and he asked me what it would take. I said my issue was never resolved, since the only resolution the owner offered was to give me free sauce on my next order "but that's it". I couldn't believe he expected me to spend more money ordering food at his restaurant in order to get this resolved. At that point, I was offended and I told him that the only thing that would cause me to take down my review would be a full refund. As I never received a refund, my review is still here, his review is now here, and so is this update. I think the public should know the truth. These Italians are great with food, not so great with customer service. Do with that information what you will. read more

Alright now! This place is solid. Came here after reading the Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed. It was almost completely empty on a Tuesday night at 8:30, but I stuck with it. The waiter was super friendly and recommended the Mojito. When I asked which of the drinks was stronger, he said, "I can make that one strong." Hey now! That's what I like to hear! I got the arugula salad to start, followed by the Fettucine al Funghi, and even though I wasn't super hungry, I ate it ALL. Before I knew it the whole thing was gone. Lucky the portions weren't too big (for those of us who have no self control - is there a support group for that?) so I didn't feel too stuffed by the end. They also give you bread that comes with an amazing little dip instead of plain olive oil... that dip came and went REALLY quick. We had to ask for more. Service was really prompt, except for after all our food came. After awhile we were waiting for the check and had a little trouble getting their attention even though the place was still almost empty, lol. But we weren't in any kind of rush. Plus, don't we spend most of our time rushing around NYC anyway? I didn't mind slowing things down a little at Belli, for a change. A great restaurant in the neighborhood. I came here with my girlfriend and her parents because emily loves pizza was a one hour + wait! So we were a bit disappointed but this restaurant definitely made it worth while. It's right across the street and definitely is good Italian food. The Food: We got two flatbread pizzas, both of which were pretty solid. Its hard to go wrong with pizza and they definitely did it right. The cheese, tomato sauce, the meat, the bread all tasted good and would get it again. The bread they served with the tomato sauce in the beginning was excellent. I loved it. I got the cheese dish to share and the butternut squash ravioli. Those were both great. The mild sweetness of the butternut squash and the cheesy sauce complimented each other very nicely. The cheeses they gave us were all delicious especially when paired with the fig jam they had. The burger they had looked great too. I got to try some of the parmesan truffle fries and they were delicious. Next time, I'm getting that. 4/5 The Venue: Really awesome looking interior with high ceilings and a cozy atmosphere. It's great for dates and in a decent part of the neighborhood. Our seats were comfortable enough and the table was big enough for all the food. 4/5 The Service: My water was never empty. The service was on point and prompt. The food took quite some time to get out to us but that was fine. We ate and drank until we were satisfied and then some. 5/5 Overall: I'd come again for sure. Pretty disappointed in the food. I asked my waitress which she thought was better, the Norwegian Eggs or Huevos Rancheros. She suggested the Norwegian Eggs. I ordered the Norwegian Eggs which is basically salmon eggs Benedict, and I have to say I was not impressed. My food was room temperature and prepared incorrectly. My eggs were poached hard, meaning the yolk was hard like a boiled egg, the hollandaise sauce was bland and very thin, the salmon wasn't the freshest either. The dish also comes with a side of home fries seasoned with peppers and onions which were pretty decent. Though the staff was kind, they weren't very attentive; my server never once asked if I enjoyed my meal and I had to continuously ask for my own refills. I had the regular pizza and it was pretty good (not incredible but pretty good). I liked their complimentary bread. And I got their broccoli which was great. And the place was not noisy...you can actually carry on a conversation. People working there were pleasant and quick and attentive. I wish places would stop charging me for every coke refill. At first my wife and I were hesitant to go in because the restaurant was half empty in a Friday night - but who wants to wait 2 hours to be seated at Emily across the street? You know you've become jaded when you turn up your nose at homemade Brooklyn pasta. We ordered the rigatoni bolognese, wild mushroom linguine and the hangar steak. The bolognese was perfect - one of the best I've had in the city. It was deep, complex, meaty goodness over perfectly al dente pasta - you can't go wrong here. The linguine was delicious as well, but I found the white sauce a bit too rich for my tastes. As for the hanger steak - perfectly fine, but not exactly memorable. The mashed potatoes that came with it were amazing though. If you're looking for a casual, unpretentious atmosphere with delicious food on the cheap ($13 for an entrée!) then Belli is definitely worth a look. read more

Loved the restaurant until this evening! Came by for a plate of there lovely risotto and a glass of wine to kick this college assignments into high gear. Asked the gentlemen how is the seating arrangements are being set. He informed me of the policies that the city has set into place not a problem there. Once it was clarified of my status he told me i could seat anywhere outside (again not a problem). Another young lady who is tending to her tables and making sure all is well with her guests. The waiter brings me water and i wait for about 5 minutes which is fine. But normally your greeted and asked if you've been there before etc. That doesn't happen, so i bring to the waitress attention that i would like to order. The waiter who is also waiting my table, comes out the restaurant retrieve a plate from the table before me. An immediately goes back into restaurant, then the waiting game happens again. I had dinner at Belli last Tuesday and I must say it 's as good as it gets! The place is big but cozy and comfortable at the same time. Perfect spot for large parties, I would think. The food was absolutely amazing. Me and my boyfriend shared the beet salad and chicken liver crostino to start. Both were incredibly fresh and tasty. Then I had the crab meat spaghetti which was probably the best sea food pasta I've had in my life and he had the meat lasagna which was superior. the home made bread, pasta and sauces do make that restaurant be above all that i know in the neighborhood. Excellent place! Started off with the avocado and arugula salad... It was a decent sized portion, just big enough for two to peck on. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese, which was perfectly perfect. She ordered the papardelle with braised short rib, also perfect. Oh, and the bread? Divine! It comes piping hot with a tomato based dipping sauce. The outside is crisp, while the inside is dense yet airy. Great place with absolutely reasonable prices considering the quality and the fact that it's in Brooklyn. This place was wonderful!! Grabbed some to-go dinner the night before my flight out. They were awesome about letting us order at the bar and gave us water while we waited. Such great friendly service We ordered two small dishes and shared an entree. Had I known the food was going to be so good, I would have insisted on two entrees! They threw in some fresh bread and we devoured it! So yummy! The Esotica salad was delicious. It was perfectly light and a great starter to our meal. Which also included the Pecoraio (Brussle Sprouts). Both were lovely! **The housemade Gnocchi with braised duck ragu was out-of-this-world AMAZING!! I really loved it! Licked the bottom of the darn to-go container! (Classy - I know!) The atmosphere was definitely a date night kind of place. But there was small group celebrating something and they were having a great time! :) I thought that the prices were reasonable and they had a lovely wine selection that I would have loved to peruse more.
