Bellissimo offers a cool Halal Afghani and Italian option with friendly service in a small shop. The quality of the food was very good, but the Afghani options were significantly better than Italian.

Although you might be tempted to order from the Italian menu (which wouldn't be the wrong decision), might I instead direct your attention to the Afghan menu, which features a multitude of delights, including bolani (a glorious concoction - perfectly crispy flat bread filled with potato or pumpkin and leek, served with a delicious green dipping sauce) and banjan borani (eggplant sauteed with tomatoes and onions). Full disclosure - these are also the only vegan-friendly options, but still absolutely worth a visit. The inside is nondescript - square tables, relatively comfy chairs, an electric fireplace. The staff is friendly. attentive, and eager to recommend their favorites. Pricing is reasonable for the quality - not cheap, but not extravagant either. Although there aren't many vegan options, the ones that exist are so tasty I could easily be convinced to go back more than once (or twice).

A hidden gem off of Bardstown road. Afghan & Italian food... truly a unique experience! The owner was fantastic and is truly talented.

My introduction to Bellissimo was through Yelp and I am appreciative. It is delicious! The Jujeh Kabob with grilled chicken is the best I've had in a long time. It's what will bring me back. Through Yelp we also got a sampling of penne pasta. It had creamy alfredo sauce and it kicked with a peppery seasoning. The Mantu was a plate of steamed dumplings full of meat. Flavorful, but somewhat heavy for me, so I would only buy it to share versus it being my meal. Service was attentive from this family owned business. We ordered takeout and it was prepped fairly fast. We brought home baklava and chai as well. The baklava is a large portion. The restaurant is small but does have indoor seating and I spotted a couple of patio seats. If tables were open you could fit a larger group as a sit down meal. A lot of customers did takeout. Closed Monday and Tuesday. Private parking lot for the shopping strip.

Yum! We had the afghan food and I think we got the eggplant and a mix of other things. But would def come here with friends and try it again.

I had never had Afghan food until coming here and WOW, I'm so glad I did! I tried the Qabili Palow, which is lamb over a bed of rice, carrots, and raisins. The lamb was AMAZING! It was deliciously cooked, fell right off the bone, and so so soooo flavorful. I was a bit nervous of the raisins in the rice but I really enjoyed them! I got to go but the service at the counter is amazing, it's a family business and you can tell they genuinely care about what goes into their food! Overall: I really love this spot! I can't wait to come back and try some from the Italian side as well!

I can't remember the food I tried but it was delicious. Oh I do remember that the garlic chicken was amazingly delicious! I think we also tried the Alfredo lol it was good. The owner and his family was very friendly. I will be back for a full meal!

Bolani: thin, crispy dough w spicy potato and leek filling. So hot and tasty.

Afghani and Italian food? How can you go wrong? I chose this for dinner in case hubby didn't want anything new and exotic. But who knew? He also chose the Afghani side of the menu. We chose Mantu, Bolani, Qabili Pulau and Banjan Borani. The mantu was a big full order of beef dumplings with yogurt and lentils. Bolani was a thin dough wrapped around filling of potatoes and leek with a warm spicy flavor. That lamb shank and pulau? Oh, my: so tender, so sticky so yummy. And if you like eggplants like I do, you must try the banjan borani. It should be called the art of eggplant. The place is small and intimate one room place. Service was friendly and efficient. The owner came out to check on everyone. We will definitely be back!

We kept hearing wonderful things about Bellissimo and Italian/Afghani restaurant located off Bardstown Road. We decided to meet up on a Thursday and we made a reservation online through their website. You could tell this is one of those locations where a lot of their regulars are typically coming in for carryout. It's a small restaurant with a few tables. But it's enough. Our server was wonderful and lovely. He gave us some good advice about the menu. We decided to go with an Afghani option for dinner because when given the option you try something new. We got the eggplant dish - banjan borani-And it was one of the most delicious items I've ever had. It was vegetarian with grilled eggplant, tomatoes, a garlic yogurt and mint seasoning. It came with rice. All three of us got the same thing. We ate all of it. It was so delicious. The price point was also very reasonable and I would love to go back. I actually want to try one of the Italian dishes the next time because I have a feeling, it's also going to be very flavorful and fun.

From Mantu (dumplings) to Qabili Palau to the Balani and Borani Banjan, one MUST dine with Bellissimo! Craving Italian? Their take on Italian is filled with flavor! The Afghan food is divine and 'worth the drive' - for all you fine folk saying my side of Bardstown Rd is ' too far', not trendy enough, and don't realize the delicious international cuisine is on the OTHER side of Bardstown Road. Please support this fantastic family run business stay alive!!!

Ordered my dish to go. The presentation was nice. My food was cold, considering I got there before it was even finished cooking apparently. I felt it was missing some flavor and it was also a bit greasy or too much oil.I would try something else new next time. Not a bad spot over all.

We all drank water, soda or tea and they kept our glasses filled. We ordered the pork chop dinner that came with risotto and vegetables. My husband loved the veggies and risotto but was not thrilled with the chop. He wishes he would have asked for a steak knife as it was difficult to cut with the butter knife provided. It was tender enough but neither of us cared for the flavor. I had the Primavera. It was a bit bland. I had to salt it several times. Our favorite part of the meal was dessert. We had a piece of lemoncello cake that was flavorful, creamy and light. We both thought it was great. We had about $20 left on our gift card and were disappointed we couldn't use the balance as the tip. So we ordered two more desserts to bring home to use the balance of the gift card. We brought homemade a piece of Italian cream cake that was as good or better than the lemoncello cake and it was a huge piece of cake. We also have a piece of caramel sea salt cheesecake which was pretty good. It was loud in the small space and a bit difficult to have a conversation across the table. The background music did not help with this issue. The staff were friendly and helpful boxing up our leftovers. Tables have white cloth tablecloths and the owner was making rounds to greet all the patrons which was nice. We discovered there is parking in the back of the restaurant, as so many of the spaces in the area have signs indicating you will be towed if you park there. We had to park on the street about a block down.

The pasta is made fresh in-house, and you can really taste the difference in both the texture and flavor. It gives the dishes that authentic, homemade feel that's hard to find. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and clearly made with fresh ingredients. The flavors are vibrant and well-balanced, and it's obvious that a lot of care goes into the preparation. The portions are also quite large, so you definitely get a satisfying meal. The appetizers are fantastic and a great way to start the meal, and the menu doesn't stop at pasta. They also offer excellent pizzas and a variety of entrees, which makes it easy for everyone at the table to find something they'll enjoy. What really stands out is the consistency. Each visit delivers the same great taste and freshness, which makes it a reliable spot when you're craving quality Italian food. While the prices run a bit higher than some places, the fresh pasta, generous portions, and consistently great ingredients make it well worth the visit. Some of our favorites are the arancini always fresh; Pasta fried to a crisp on the outside and savory beef on the inside, the farro and arugula salad; fresh and crisp lettuce, farro, dried cherry, goat cheese a perfect flavor combo with the delicate but sweet champagne vinaigrette;the ham and ricotta pizza; delicious every single time with a perfect crust and a slight honey drizzle to make it sweet and savory; vodka pasta the most delectable and creamy sauce that keeps us coming back as it truly is the best vodka sauce I have ever had. Even the water deserves a mention. It was clean, crisp, and refreshing. If it came straight from the tap, I would have never known. It's a small detail, but it speaks to the overall dining experience when even something as simple as water stands out. The service was great, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. It's easy to see why this restaurant has built such a strong reputation. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 comes down to accessibility. As a person with a disability, parking can make or break a dining experience. Unfortunately, there was no handicap parking available, and there were no nearby parking spots open when I arrived. I ultimately had to park in a hotel lot about a block away, which cost $25 for just two hours. Not only was the cost frustrating, but the additional distance was challenging given my mobility needs. The food was phenomenal and absolutely worth trying, but I do hope accessibility becomes part of the conversation for future guests. For those without mobility concerns, this may not be an issue, but for disabled patrons, it's something important to consider before visiting.
