I chose the 90-minute Keratin Hair Treatment, which included the scalp assessment, essential oil relaxation, head/neck/shoulder massage, deep scalp cleansing, keratin hair mask, waterfall treatment, scalp and hair nourishing care, and a blow dry. I paid $168 for my session. The entire treatment was incredibly relaxingI actually fell asleep during part of it. Afterward, they brought me over to a chair to blow dry my hair and offered water while I finished up. The service was wonderful from beginning to end, and I left feeling refreshed and relaxed. I've experienced a head spa treatment at another location before, so I had a good idea of what to expect. Overall, the experience was just okay. The treatment felt a bit rushed, and the movements throughout the service were much quicker and extremely firm than I anticipated. While some parts were relaxing, others were uncomfortable. The neck massage, in particular, was much too firm for such a sensitive area, and at times it felt like my neck was being jerked around. I probably should have spoken up, but there was a language barrier, and I didn't feel comfortable interrupting or making her feel bad. The most uncomfortable part was the facial massage. I love facial sculpting, gua sha, and using facial tools, so I'm familiar with how these techniques should feel. Unfortunately, the tool being used around my under-eye area was applied with so much pressure that it repeatedly poked my eye. I found myself flinching several times because it was painful, and it didn't seem like the pressure was adjusted. I was also supposed to receive a blow dry at the end of my appointment, but I left with my hair still noticeably wet and the ends and in the roots. I have thick hair, so I'm not sure if enough time was allotted to fully dry it, but it was disappointing to leave that way. For the price I paid ($168 including tip), I don't feel the experience matched the value. The staff was kind, and I appreciated the overall concept of the service, but because of the discomfort and the unfinished blowout, I don't think I'll be returning.

We had to use Google Translate to communicate and I showed him a couple pictures on how I want my haircut to look like. I even had Oscar translate once he came in, to make sure Jason understood how I want my haircut. Well, the haircut didn't meet my expectations, to say the least. My fault. I should have known better, the minute I walked in. Once I got home, I noticed how crooked the haircut was with uneven hair length and one side longer than the other. I took photos and a video, sent them to Oscar. After saying " Could be the direction of the hair growth", he did invite me to go back so he/they can fix it. I thanked him and told him that I would wash it and see. Once I washed and straightened my hair, I could see the horrible haircut. Clearly, Jason has no skills and isn't competent. I could have done a better job myself. I still tipped him! The positive reviews I read were about Oscar. Unfortunately, he wasn't the one in charge of the Groupon. He probably cut off a good 6 inches or so and my hair has never looked healthier! But here there's back and forth and lots of suggestions and he really cares about customer satisfaction and even gives lots of advice (eg. try hair mask or hair oil for the dry ends) without selling you anything! Just good advice! No advertising. I was there for a little over an hour and felt so pampered and just knew my hair was in good hands. I also learned he's been in the industry for 10 years and his expertise really shows! It was my first time there but he's sooo nice and friendly you can tell he's best buddies with some of his regulars! It's just like that warm homey neighborhood feeling. Bilingual English and Mandarin speaking, very good haircut and really good vibes! Would totally recommend and will definitely be going back! There's a small parking lot out front! Just one row. Anywhere else I'd say it's hard to find parking, but the side of the strip mall where the studio is was pretty empty, so no problem at all finding a spot!

Although I didn't think it was a problem at the time, it was brought to my attention that there are quite a few international (business) cultures that "look down" on bald men. From a professional standpoint, being bald is considered a "weakness". Whatever. However, I was bald (very) and I was advised I should find a fast solution. Okay, what are my options? 1. Use lotions, creams, meds, laser treatments, special brushes... and hope. 2. Get a full hair transplant (not enough donor hair), or 3. Get a hair piece (the obvious choice in my situation). I searched the internet and found a "highly rated" guy out in Encino. He set me up with a "system" (hair piece) and it did "get me through" the photo shoots. However over the course of the first year (through several "systems" and weekly "services") I realized there were too many problems. The quality of the systems was low. I HAD to go in every week (the "bonding solution" broke down easily). The lady who put the system on my head would just sort of slap it on "wherever" - sometimes just right, sometimes too far back (or forward). And, it was expensive! I decided I needed to find another place. After some internet research, I found a "highly rated" company in Anaheim. While the overall quality and service was better than the first, I still felt the look was not natural. Funny thing about the human eye/brain combo - when we look at faces (and hair) we can process millions of "bits of information", instantly. If something, visually, isn't "quite right" (if the hair looks "almost natural") - we'll become aware of it almost immediately. It was this that first alerted me that this establishment in Anaheim wasn't going to work out. In most conversations I had, I noticed the person I was talking with would look up at my hair frequently. "Something" about my hair was telling them it wasn't natural. In early 2000 I began questioning if I should even wear a hair piece or not. If it can't be undetectable, what was the point? Almost laughable, really. I figured I'd go back to being bald. Nothing wrong with being bald... I know a lot of guys look great bald... but I never did. Made me look 10 years older. Just as I was about to hang it up forever, someone told me about Dianne Hoover at Apollo West. They told me they'd tried several other hair restoration places, but Dianne was on another level. I went in for a "consultation" and found Diane (and her husband Ken) to be extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. They compared with me my system with what they were using at the time... and theirs was far superior. They showed me why their method of attachment was better (more comfortable, lasted longer, more "breathable", etc.). Then they discussed "plans" with me (if you want four systems per year, plus service, it's xxx dollars per month) etc. Their prices were lower than either of the previous establishments I used. I signed up, and they ordered my first system. A month or so later, it came in and Dianne went through her steps of putting it on, "cutting it in" and styling it. I remember looking in the mirror when it was on... almost in shock at how NATURAL it looked compared the systems I wore for the two previous years. Wow. I've been seeing Dianne (and Ken) at Apollo for about 12 years now. In that time, I've learned many things: Dianne is an artist. She has an uncanny "eye" for what constitutes "natural". Since day one with Dianne (over the last 12 years) in conversations, I haven't noticed ANYBODY looking up at my hair. Everyone thinks its "my hair". Dianne and Ken are very professional. They are honest. They don't over charge for product or services. They keep abreast of the latest advancements in technology. In fact, they just returned from Kansas City, Missouri where they attended a convention. They came back with new products they were really excited about, as well as some new techniques they learned. Systems "put on" by Dianne STAY ON longer. For two years before Dianne (at the other two establishments) I had to come in once a week (!) for servicing due to the system breaking down. Since I started going to Dianne, I only come in once every THREE WEEKS. (Most men can go longer). If you or a loved one are considering a hair replacement option, or if you aren't 100 percent happy with the quality and service you're getting somewhere else - I encourage you to call Dianne and set up a consultation. I'm confident you'll discover what I did... If I could give 10 STARS, I would! This is as good as it gets!
