Why would someone in Miami eat sushi in the heat? You pay sushi price and do not seat in an air conditioned restaurant? The food was fine, if you eat it immediately. Service does not exist. You will wait 40 minutes for your order. By the time you eat it has gone bad. I asked to change the edamame because it smelled rancid but the reply I got that it is impossible. Some things are impossible, such as a good experience here. The eggplant dish was extremely salty. I won't be coming back. The only human response was no. And I ordered with a tablet, even though there appears to be 20 people working here. In short. Not good. The two stars I'm leaving are for the tablet because it is big and has pictures. And I hate to be a negative Nancy, because I spent too much money and time here but the tablet was not very responsive, but at least tried its best. Don't come here in person. I got to the last roll and there was a short brown hair in my sushi roll! I am upset. It's too short to be mine. The service is quick and the food was ok, but I'm grossed out by it now. For a place that focuses on takeout, the location is terrible for a takeout spot. There is no parking nearby and you have to walk a good distance to get to the restaurant. You order on a computer and then sit and wait for them to call you - did not take very long which was appreciated. I ordered the tuna tostada and the smaller salmon combo box. The tuna tostada was unique and tasty but messy. The sushi was pretty basic, not bad, but I felt they were much smaller than other sushi spots. I live in Aventura and I have passed the Gulfstream Pegasus & Dragon statue no less than 10,000 times and thought "this Pegasus thing is ridiculous". I was pretty close. What's ridiculous is it took me until today to try Belly Fish conveniently located right underneath that statue. The sushi is ridiculous....ridiculously delicious!! I had the lunch special combo roll and bowl. I chose tuna for the bowl and went the lettuce route instead of rice. There was a great spicy smoky soy that I poured over the top. The tuna was very fresh and super dark. The tuna was cut in cubes adding to the great texture of all the toppings like furikake, pickled ginger, edamame, crispy leeks, scallions and sesame seeds. The combo came with 2 spicy salmon hand rolls. The packaging is awesome as it keeps the wrap from getting soggy. There is a convenient bar code on the box that takes you the video link for a visual "unwrapping". The salmon didn't seem very spicy but I did pour the spicy smoky soy on top. The salmon was fresh and the hand rolls were a good size. Belly fish is strictly take out and you can order direct on their website. There is a beautiful covered courtyard at the pick up counter for you to eat and admire the ridiculous statue if you must. I'm really on the fence with Belly Fish. I wish I could give them a 3.5 and this is why... I ordered through Uber Eats so this review is based solely on my meal. Really fresh fish and fantastic service. Can be a bit tough to find in the complex but they've put signs at a few corners to help. Would definitely recommend the wagyu roll, the torched salmon roll, and the spicy tuna roll. For the wagyu roll, don't skimp on the jus, it adds an incredible depth of flavor. Consistency is the friend of taste. Belly Fish (a great name ) is one the best sushi restaurants in the area. It's not cheap but then again the value is present. Rolls are tight and perfectly cut. Nigiri is fresh, flavorful and well cut. They could be bigger but it's a minor issue. The crispy rice is arguably the best in the area. Those that would argue probably want more inherent flavor but the side sauces are more than adequate. The crispy rice base is Top 2-3 in the area. The bowls are packed with flavor. And their sweet smoky soy sauce is drinkably awesome. If sold in stores it'd be a runaway hit.
