I began my life as a vegetarian some time ago, and although I became much more in tune with what I was doing in the kitchen, I am still always searching for vegetarian friendly eateries. I am convinced that I have found the absolute best in Belmont Vegetarian. First thing's first. The most amazing thing about Belmont is that it is totally vegan. I already knew this heading into my first meal there, and this was the cause of my initial skepticism as most places I go to boasting vegetarian/vegan cuisine falls short in the flavor/variety/quality of the food. Belmont absolutely crushed (in a very jah approved way) any skepticism I had. The food was fresh and the flavors blew my mind. The textures of each dish was unique to what they were replicating, and the dishes are all complimented by the rice and beans served with them. Simple, easy-going dining. The utmost credit and respect goes to Belmont for not only making food that drives the vegetarian/vegan community wild, but for making fresh, hot, tantalizing dishes that have also won over friends of mine that still swear by their meat-consuming ways. That to me is what sets Belmont apart from the rest. The owner is a loving, smiling purveyor of flavors and good vibes, and is always willing to let you try whatever it is he has concocted in his kitchen that day to better aid you in satisfying your appetite. Last time me and my girlfriend ate there we ended up having a long, in-depth conversation with the owner and a gentleman that dropped in on his way back to his home in Cambridge and saw the sign. He was a vegetarian since birth and the food he sampled had him hooked right away. On our way out after yet another amazing meal enjoyed to the sounds of Sizzla drifting out of the speakers, he stopped us and gave us a free small container of the mac 'n' cheese he makes and barely has time to write it on the menu before it has vanished. I just finished my first meal from Belmont Vegetarian. I decided to check it out after reading favorable reviews here on YELP. I'll just get to the point. The food was fantastic and the owner was incredibly nice and let me try everything on the menu before placing my order (6 items on the menu - changes daily). I had the pepper-steak, curry, and sweat & sour. wow. I hope to make this a weekly lunch experience. The place is bare bones but I like that. It's all about the food. I'm a carnivore, but this food is excellent, and very very satisfying. We got a generous to-go tin for $12 which filled me and my wife up. And the guy behind the glass is amazing. Save for Grasshopper in Allston, I have never tasted vegetarian food that is so reminiscent of it's meat-based counterparts. The place is small, but in a cozy way, and the owner was kind, helpful and interested in making sure I got the food that would make me happiest by letting me try a little of everything. The sweet and sour as well as the BBQ was absolutely delicious--which is what I got as a combo. Initially, I thought that I was short .50 and he assured me not to worry as it's 'just food!' Seriously so good. I came in for take out 20 min before they closed on a Monday, on my way traveling across the state. Because of this, they didn't have all of the offerings the began the day with, but they were more than happy to fix me up a big plate (sz medium, 12.95...at least a pound of food if not more) The serving size was generous and I easily could've made two meals out of it if it wasn't so delicious that I simply had to eat it all in one sitting. I'm gluten free, and was so happy to find out that they had food I could eat, all of it vegan. I got the BBQ curry (tofu with a rich tomato based sauce with a hint of sweetness) and the collard greens with rice. Super delicious meal that put a smile on my face during a 6 hour drive. Good hot vegetarian food. No frills, no bathroom even... But tasty cheap and cheerful. Most people get their food to go, but there are a couple tables and benches inside. This is a vegetarian dream. We are not vegetarian but this place has AMAZING alternatives. We just got two samplers and they were absolutely delicious and did not have us craving "meat". The curry chicken, pepper steak, and bbq chicken were delicious. I loved the mac & cheese as well. As for portion, most say large feeds 2 - not in my house. My husband would eat an entire large for himself, but as most other people, I'd eat about half a large (the medium size). Get the large though, the leftovers for the price is worth it! read more

What a great place! Wanted to go Veg tonight and Belmont happened to be close by my hotel. What luck. Small corner shop. 2 tables, basically take away. 2 size tins and choose anything or everythind on the chaulk board. I couldn't make my mind up and left it up to the fella's discretion. So he made me a sampler. The flavors were absolutely incredible. I got the large size figuring I'd have half now and half lynch tomorrow. Well it's about a third left. I love this place! I recently turned vegan and got the Worcester Vegetarian brochure. They said to check this place out and I figured I didn't have anything to lose. The place is located right on Belmont Hill, you really can't miss the sign. Parking is at a premium, but it really doesn't matter because the service is so fast that you'll be in and out in no time. The owner/chef/everything is a very sweet man. The first time I came in he made sure to walk me through the menu, which is posted right next to the window on a chalk board. It seems like they definitely have their specialities, as everyone else has been saying, and sometimes introduce new items. I asked, just to make sure, that everything on the menu is vegan (even the mac 'n cheese). You can either get a specific item and a few sides or a mix of everything. Also, you have a choice between Med or Lrg containers, which are conveniently hung up on the wall behind the counter along with their respective prices. I would recommend this to any vegetarian/vegan .... or anyone who enjoys good home cooking ... to come here and give this place a try. read more

This is pretty much as good as it gets. I got the large sampler and everything included in it was amazing. The food reminded me of another awesome place near where I live called Taste of Africa... a very positive association for me. Though it was the first stop on my most recent trip, it wound up being the food highlight for the entire journey. The food is priced pretty well for what you get and it's served quickly.
