I've never felt worse about myself than the way I did after leaving this salon for a simple trim. Not only was the woman flat out mean to me but cut an extra 4 inches off of my hair. Then proceeded to give me the worst blow dry I've ever had. I hope this young blonde woman knows who she is and knows how incredibly hurt I was at the way you treated me. I am so careful with the pandemic and this was one of the handful of times I was in a public setting in TWO years and your treatment of me left me crying the entire night. I don't know what happened to you that day but man it must have been horrible to slaughter another woman's hair the way you did. Truly took my confidence away from me. I've been going to Ben E. Salon for 16 years. I have lived in 7 towns since I started going there, and I still always made a pilgrimage back to B.E.S. for my haircuts and color. That's how good they are. I can't even tell you how many other salons I have tried in the various towns I lived in, and I was always disappointed. They didn't compare. I can go to B.E.S. with no clue about what to do to my hair, so I tell my stylist to make a recommendation. She always comes up with something I love. The service is so friendly and professional, from the moment you walk in the door until the moment you walk out. I come here for my eyebrow waxes, and considering I'm only in town 3x a year this is saying something (um, i do get my eyebrows waxed MORE than three times a year, I just come here whenever I'm in town). I still haven't found someone as good as Christine in SF, and I can always get a day-of appointment. Unfortunately, the prices have risen like crazy. I love the stylist however their female receptionist is very frustrating and continually counter minds you - first experience was able to put my tip on my card. Last visit she told me we only accept cash. Said is this new policy because I was able to put tip on card last time. She came back very aggressively said I was wrong and that never has been the policy. Needless to say went and got cash for my stylist, however given this salons support staff and really this one woman, not sure I want to go back. Overall if you don't encounter this receptionist - great stylists and great staff...sad this salon is impacted by one rude woman. read more

I did a donation to Locks of Love so I went from long to very short. RJ was my stylist and he did a great job. He was ready for me as soon as I got there, my service started with consultation and then a wonderful scalp massage followed by a great shampoo. I prefer to not make small talk while getting my service and RJ didn't try to get a conversation going. Overall I had a very relaxing experience And got a cute pixie hair cut. read more

This salon is so nice! I was able to make a same day appointment with Stephanie. She was amazing. Consulted with me before she did anything & asked my opinion on it all. She explained the process and the products she was going to do. She gave me a price at the very BEGINNING to make sure I could pay for it. I didn't know what a good haircut was until I came here. Their stylists are all very friendly and well trained. Vance has been my go to for the last 2 years. For a men's haircut the price isn't bad, and I always stock up on a few products while I'm there. Just be prepared to make appointments well in advance as their more popular stylists book up fast. read more

I've tried several salons in Barrington and my stylist, Joanne is the best. She always makes me feel comfortable and is easy to get along with. She knows what she's doing with color, which is so important. i always love my hair when she's done. The lady who does my nails is great. She saved one of my tragically broken nails, which took a lot of work. It was the day before my daughters communion. I would have had to wear a bandaid on my finger if she couldn't fix it. How lovely would that have been?! The owner is very nice. I always feel welcome when I am there by the front desk people. Of coarse, they sell the Aveda products and have other services. I am a huge fan of Aveda salons because of their reputation for a true pampered spa experience. I have been to several over the past 15 years all around the country and this one is the worst one I have been to. The staff was kind and I was offered something to drink, which was nice, but the other little things I have grown to expect from an Aveda salon and spa were not present. Little add-ons such as a mini neck rub at the beginning of a haircut, a short hand massage while the conditioner sets in during a shampoo or even a short scalp massage at the beginning of a haircut. I was not offered any of these and for that reason, will be looking for another Aveda in the area to try. I was given a gift certificate for xmas this year, so I will be going back to try their actual spa services, but my expectations are considerably lower than for the standard Aveda spa. read more

Great experience with the staff at Ben E Salon with last minute appointments yesterday. After one shower in the well water around here, my hair turned completely orange and Polina was able to not only fix my color, but make it even better than it was originally. She is also just an incredibly lovely human, so it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. I also booked a facial and eyebrow wax with Heather who was so sweet, professional, and super thorough with the extractions. :-) I highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time I am in town! read more

I have been getting my hair cut/styled with Imelda for about 2 years. She is great. Great neck/head massage before the washing. Feels great. Nice stress relief. Happens every time. Very relaxing. She is also careful of the water temperature to be just the right temp. Always pleased with her work, also. Have become addicted to Ben E. Salon's approach to their customers. Courteous. Friendly. Today I went to Ben E. Salon for my third visit. I usually go to Polina for my hair appointments (she is amazing!) but she is currently on a maternity leave and I was in desperate need of a haircut so I scheduled an appointment with Kristine. From the very beginning of the appointment she was extremely kind and detailed with questions she had about what I wanted done to my hair. She did a terrific job on my haircut, I love it so much! She didn't push product too much which made me feel more at ease because most salons I go to hammer me to buy products. I ended up buying the product that she recommended though because it isn't super heavy and gave my hair the results I had been looking for. Overall, a very good experience! Nicole is the BEST! if you need to get your hair highlighted like I do every month I would ask for Nicole, I drive all the way from the city sometimes to see her if my regular stylist is not available ... Sorry to say I wasn't happy with my second trip to this salon for highlights. First visit was for heavy highlighting on my natural color, and simple cut. I was happy and blonde! Second trip in I needed a touch up, same stylist, but she only touched up half as light as the original so I still looked like I needed a touch up, just not as bad. Yikes! for the money I expect great results! was told it could not be fixed because it would ruin my hair! And she cut my hair (not well) even though I was on a time schedule and had to leave, Disappointing.......................will not return. read more

I will give my stylist 5 stars, as she was very friendly and did a fantastic job on my hair. However, the salon itself is 2-3 stars at best. It is in need of a few updates. I got the feel that it is run by older people that are set in their ways, with little in the ways of creativity. I felt sorry for the stylists, as they had to make excuses for the dilapidated chair at the wash bowl, which mind you was HORRIBLE! Anyone with back issues would likely not be able to sit in this chair. What would it take to invest in a good chair for what your clients are paying? The hair stations are "meh" at best, with little to the eye. The tipping process was strange. You have to leave a tip for your stylist in a small envelope that they collect at the end of their shift. I was unprepared for this, as I usually include in the bill. Who knew?! I had to leave and go to the ATM, and come back to leave my tip. That alone annoyed me. That said, I will not be going back. I had my hair done previously at Salon Shea, but thought I'd try new places as I am new to the area. I will be going back to Salon Shea. I suggest you try them as well and skip Ben E Salon. This salon is an absolute joke when it comes to customer service and how they run their business. I would not recommend this salon to anyone after what I went through today with the owner's wife, Beth, and the owner. They are condescending, money-hungry, insulting, and ridiculously clueless when it comes to handling an unhappy customer. I was very upset with the outcome of my hair, and paid $250 for highlights and a cut. I didn't even have my hair blow-dried because i was running short on time, yet somehow, Beth, was able to "notice" how beautiful the highlights had turned out when I called to complain. Not only was my hair wet, she didn't even know wtf I asked to get done on my hair. Plus, she was coughing so hard, she left me standing there to pay for 10 minutes so she could go clear her throat and make a drink for herself in the back. She was cold and unfriendly. I got home, and was very saddened to find out that the highlights were barely, if at all, noticeable. The salon had closed, and I was unable to go back until after the event that I wanted to get my hair done for. I was basically called a liar for what I saw, and when I offered to take a picture and send it to them, Beth said, "she wouldn't be able to see", and that she can only fix it after my event, which would be too late. I asked if I could get a refund for the highlights, and I'll pay for everything else, but, nope...not a chance. I told them I had to go somewhere else the next day to get the highlights done, because of time, and they just said, "well who would be open on a Sunday to do your hair??" There's more, and I ended up hysterical by the way they were speaking to me. They actually asked me to drive back to the salon, after hours, when there were no stylists there, to show them my hair. I agreed, but then stopped and changed my mind, because, well, why do I have to go out of my way to prove something to such unaccommodating, heartless people. I was also appalled by having to do such a thing, when there were no stylists there, and a simple highlight refund would've made me happy. The fact that they didn't believe me, and were so cold about it really upset me. I decided they weren't worth the hassle, and they can take their money and shove it. The other salons I had to call were also floored at the way they handled the situation, and were happy to help me. They were happy to know which salon I went to so they wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I don't understand how these two still have a business. Never going back, and shame on them. I have never felt so insulted. The employees are wonderful, but unfortunately, the management is complete disaster. Don't plan on being treated like a human being by these owners. Yuck. I only put one star because I needed to in order to post this, and They get a gold star for being assholes. read more

I have been seeing Sherry for my hair for over 8 years now. She is so fabulous! A nice, pleasant and fun person so that I feel comfortable in her company and she does an incredible job on my hair with cut and color. I have extremely thick hair and she is the only person I have ever been to that can texturize and thin it enought to look great! I get tons of compliments even weeks after the last cut. If you suggest that you want to try something and she thinks it's a mistake, she tells you and why she feels that way. She also makes great suggestions on new things to try. He hair coloring skills are top notch as well. She never makes you wait and is always professional. I would be afraid to try anyone else. read more
