Everything down to the way our table was set up, was spectacular! From the jump we had such a great experience at Bender's. My husband told me he had made reservations at this place in Canton. I just followed his lead. When we arrived we were greeted by lots of people (the one male host was a little rude though, he's the only negativity we encountered the whole evening, looked at my husband and I like we didn't belong there and snubbed us, but someone else took over) We were seated and our waitress was SO sweet. She told us about everything, since it was our first time. We ordered our drinks and she let us look over the menu. We decided, I got the crab cakes, and my husband got the halibut Ala foley! Both dishes were FANTASTIC! We did end up with dessert as well. Key lime tart so delicious! I'm so glad we found this place, pricey yes, but worth every single penny! We had dinner here and it was terrible. The service from our server was awful. I will say everyone else on staff was very friendly! But other than that the experience was not good and I wouldn't come back. The fish was extremely dried out, mashed potatoes were cold. Walking into this old tavern might take you back in time but the restaurant has a warm and comfortable feel. Separated into various rooms it's a comfortable place for a casual dinner, fancy dinner, date night or celebration. Reservations are highly recommended and various parking options are available so it's easy to dine here. There are two things that I always get and highly recommend on the menu. Bender's Tomatoes and Bender's Fries. These two side dishes are a must have with your dinner. Bender's Tomatoes include bleu cheese and a house dressing that is amazing. For the non-bleu cheese fans simply substitute feta cheese like I do. The Bender's Fries are really more like sliced and fried potatoes in a stick of butter. Not low calorie but definitely delicious! This time of year my favorite special on the menu is the Nantucket Bay Scallops. This dish is only available seasonally and the flavor and taste of these scallops is amazing. They will melt in your mouth like the butter on the Bender's Fries. Famous for steaks and seafood you won't be disappointed with whatever you order on the menu. We ate here before going to the First Ladies Museum only a block away. This restaurant was recommended by a local Canton resident. The food was good, but I liked the history behind the restaurant dating back to 1902, I believe. I'd probably eat here again next time in downtown Canton. read more

My husband and I love coming to this restaurant and had a wonderful experience here on Valentine's Day! We both always order the filet which consistently is cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes are super creamy! My husband ordered two types of fries and thought both had the perfect amount of crisp and flavor. We tried the fried sacchetti for the first time and thought it was also perfection. The sauce was packed with flavor and a bit chunky which I liked. This dish was a refreshing change of pace from typical mozzarella sticks. They have an extensive wine list as well. Native Ohio, California transplant. Two extreme cravings unavailable to the west coast are Elderberry Pie and Lake Erie Perch. Therefore, I order Lake Erie Perch EVERY time it is on a menu, with mixed results. I can state assertively that Bender's serves the absolute best, the pinnacle of this Lake Erie delicacy. Every filet is succulent, breaded as an accent so lightly to only percent the edges from drying out. My father had an equally delicious walleye. He'd been several times prior and had equally exemplary, fork-tender steaks, pork chops and chicken breast . We arrived without reservations, and enjoyed the beautiful leaded glass facade and the neighboring table of guests who ordered a flight of signature cocktails which my octogenarian father was disturbingly curious about. The sandstone steps in the entrance show nearly a century of wear for good reason. If you are anywhere near the NE quadrant of Ohio, you owe it to yourself and the persons you love to dine together here. read more

The service is always top notch here as is the food. Scallops are a favorite , but the real draw to me are their pork chops. Absolutely the best chops I've ever had in my life and I dare anyone to find better. The portions are very generous so I always have a second meal of them. I am in town to see family and of course had to have dinner at Benders. I grew up here dinning with my family. My parents had their rehearsal dinner at Benders over 75 years ago. If you like seafood, this is a very traditional seafood place. It's the oldest restaurant in Canton, and it's worth the drive. The service was very friendly and efficient although the pacing was a little uneven, and the food was very good though pretty rich. The atmosphere is very eclectic. There were people dressed very casually in tees and jeans and others were dressed to the nines. It can be a bit confusing but it's a small criticism in an otherwise solid meal. read more

Close to the football hall of fame, this historic restaurant has been around before the hall of fame was and has more history than it! The haddock fried fish with chips was good here, I wish I had gone here more before I left Canton for work reasons, but the seafood I had was good. From what I heard from the locals, it's a love-it-or-hate-it affair. Some locals love it, some locals think it's a ripoff. I've had lunch at Bender's probably 200 times but have only been for dinner once before last night. And our dinner last night was one of the best meals I've had in my life. I literally cannot stop laughing thinking about it and may be there again tonight. If there's any 5 star meal in Stark County, it's Bender's and there's no restaurant that's particularly close. 6 stars would be more appropriate. If you're lucky enough to get there on a night they have prime rib, be sure to order it Timken style. And never skip the oysters or the scallops. read more
