Although it's been awhile since I've been here, nothing has changed in terms of service, ambiance, quality, and deliciousness. We tried their weekend brunch menu. Crab cakes Benedict: spectacular. Banana foster pancakes: superb! Mushroom thyme burger: fabulous. Everything here is perfection. I've never had anything I didn't love. I also love the inside decor. They've done a great job to preserve many of the historical aspects of the building. A Canton MUST-dine location.

The best restaurant in the area service and food i excellent. Turtle soup is amazing. We had a lobster appetizer. Halibut Allah Foley was also terrific. Give it a try, won't be disappointed worth the drive.

    The story of Bender's Tavern

Bender's Tavern has been a staple in Canton Ohio for decades and there's a reason it's still here after all these years. The food and service are top notch and you won't be disappointed. Walking into this old tavern might take you back in time but the restaurant has a warm and comfortable feel. Separated into various rooms it's a comfortable place for a casual dinner, fancy dinner, date night or celebration. Reservations are highly recommended and various parking options are available so it's easy to dine here. There are two things that I always get and highly recommend on the menu. Bender's Tomatoes and Bender's Fries. These two side dishes are a must have with your dinner. Bender's Tomatoes include bleu cheese and a house dressing that is amazing. For the non-bleu cheese fans simply substitute feta cheese like I do. The Bender's Fries are really more like sliced and fried potatoes in a stick of butter. Not low calorie but definitely delicious! This time of year my favorite special on the menu is the Nantucket Bay Scallops. This dish is only available seasonally and the flavor and taste of these scallops is amazing. They will melt in your mouth like the butter on the Bender's Fries. Famous for steaks and seafood you won't be disappointed with whatever you order on the menu. There are several dessert options available but I haven't really tried them as I'm usually too full from my dinner. Make a reservation and enjoy Bender's Tavern.

Bender's is a historical spot in downtown Canton that you will enjoy. I knew it would be interesting as soon as I saw how worn the front entrance step was. You can imagine all the deals, celebrations, and conventions that have happened in this tavern in the heart of downtown Canton. We stopped in after a trip to the courthouse for some business. I got the seafood special pasta and my sister, Amy, got the sirloin. Then I noticed they have turtle soup, so I got a bowl of that too. The food is fantastic, the service is perfect, it is upscale dining at a historic location. The people that were coming in were dressed casual to suit and tie. Bender's turtle soup is served with sherry, it is now my favorite turtle soup! My pasta was enough for two. Then since it was close to Amy's bday and we're were celebrating her divorce, I asked Julianne, if they had a cake. Julianne, said they do, and they brought out the cake and sang happy birthday to Amy.

My husband and I love coming to this restaurant and had a wonderful experience here on Valentine's Day! We both always order the filet which consistently is cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes are super creamy! My husband ordered two types of fries and thought both had the perfect amount of crisp and flavor. We tried the fried sacchetti for the first time and thought it was also perfection. The sauce was packed with flavor and a bit chunky which I liked. This dish was a refreshing change of pace from typical mozzarella sticks. They have an extensive wine list as well. Our server was incredibly warm and attentive. We sat on the tavern side this visit and were pleasantly surprised by its historic charm and beauty. We love the formal dining side as well! This place is top notch!

Native Ohio, California transplant. Two extreme cravings unavailable to the west coast are Elderberry Pie and Lake Erie Perch. Therefore, I order Lake Erie Perch EVERY time it is on a menu, with mixed results. I can state assertively that Bender's serves the absolute best, the pinnacle of this Lake Erie delicacy. Every filet is succulent, breaded as an accent so lightly to only percent the edges from drying out. My father had an equally delicious walleye. He'd been several times prior and had equally exemplary, fork-tender steaks, pork chops and chicken breast . We arrived without reservations, and enjoyed the beautiful leaded glass facade and the neighboring table of guests who ordered a flight of signature cocktails which my octogenarian father was disturbingly curious about. The sandstone steps in the entrance show nearly a century of wear for good reason. If you are anywhere near the NE quadrant of Ohio, you owe it to yourself and the persons you love to dine together here.

    Sea scallops and Jerry fries

Service was excellent, food terrific and atmosphere outstanding. Oldest restaurant in canton. Dark rooms with old paneling, tin ceiling and old lighting. Fabulous large wood bar. I ordered scallops and the Jerry fries which are really crispy hash browns. Also the salad was crisp and the sweet sour dressing excellent. We went early after our tour of the First Ladies museum. The restaurant is one block from this lovely museum. We were the only ones in the restaurant. We had a lovely time

We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were a bit more on the "fried" side than the tomato flavor coming through, but still very tasty and I'd order them again. I had the scallop special with rice pilaf, and they were hands down the most tender scallops I've had in years. My wife had the pork cutlets, which were excellent. Between the atmosphere, food, and friendly staff, we left full and happy--no leftovers here!

The server who greeted us was warm and welcoming and the young lady who took care of was polite. She used a piece of paper to go over the small plate specials as there were more on her list than on the menu. Glasses of water arrived with quickness and our beverages came shortly thereafter. My pint of Blue Moon came with a pour about an inch and a quarter from the top and below temperature. I find that when you see over 8 handles from one horizontal tower you lose temperature control on the first pour. We started off with some small plates: Spanakopita Eggrolls- which included your traditional flavor and a wonton wrapper and they were okay. The Special Small Plates- Honey Walnut Shrimp arrived with Brussel Sprouts which weren't advertised but we were okay with. This sweet dish was very not sugar friendly and the shrimp lacked crispness. In fact the coating was so soggy that the batter just came off when picking it up. The pricey Vietnamese shrimp and crab cakes (Small Pates) were also average. You definitely picked up on the amount of filler at first bite and also noticed that the center was not at temperature and too creamy. Our main dishes showed and my wife opted for the Special Main: Cod, but she thought it was so so especially at the price charged. My Pork Chop was cooked to my requested temperature and needed some help with the salt and pepper shaker. The accompanying pasta was very firm and had enough Olive Oil on the plate to to help out the pasta. The green beans were fine. There was no dessert for us, but our server used her trusty paper to give us the run down on their desserts. I boxed up my remaining leftovers and paid the check. Be advised that everyone is now charging a percentage for using a credit card, so be advised as it is listed at the very bottom of their menu.

The lighting was perfect, the ambiance was delightful and although there were other couples, the restaurant was set up in a way where the conversations didn't clash and you couldn't barely hear anyone else. Food: We both ordered sirloins. Mine with compound butter and my partner's with mushrooms. She got mushroom risotto and I got the gouda risotto. I ordered a cabernet to go with my steak while my partner got a cocktail that I can't remember but was suggested by the waiter. The salads came out first. Very enjoyable. The steak came out with the risotto and OH MY GOODNESS. I swear this was the best meal I have had in YEARS. That is saying something considering I have how many reviews on here? I try a new place any chance I get and I am just afraid that nothing is going to compare to this meal and then I am going to have get a second job just to be able to afford to eat there every night that they are open and rely on meal replacement drinks for the days they are closed because no solid food will ever flavor quench these taste buds. The risotto was delicious and creamy. Rice was not overdone or underdone, completely perfectly cooked. I think we both preferred the gouda over the mushroom but that didn't stop me from making risotto latkes' with the leftover risotto the next morning. The steak, however, there was nothing left of that steak. It was melt-in-your-mouth and perfectly cooked. Best steak I have ever had and this is the one time I got a sirloin over the filet (the price was significant) but if the sirloin was this good, I can't even imagine how good the filet is. We will definitely be back. Like as soon as possible.

There is a top area that has some tables along the walls but I would describe it mostly as the "bar area" then there is a downstairs area with table seating. We preferred to sit in the downstairs area both times we were there. There are keno TVs for us to play our keno and it's not too noisy when it's busy. Our server the first time (I believe his name was Coby) was just a delight. I was debating on trying the chili cheese dog and he brought back a small sample of the chili for me to try before ordering and he was very sweet and enjoyable for the whole experience. Our server the second time, an older gentlemen, was less enjoyable but maybe he was having a bad day because he was a little busy. We loved playing our keno here and have had really good luck here. We agreed it was our new keno spot. Food: The first time dining, I tried the coney dog with cheese. The dog and the chili themselves were delicious. There was jus FAR too much bread. My partner got the philly cheesesteak and said that was the same case for her. We both had to pull off most of the bread. But the flavor was there on both dishes. A slightly smaller hoagie bun (or even steaming the buns to order) would really help these two dishes. The second time dining, I decided I was going to get the coney dog again but ask for a regular bun. I very much had a "3 bears" moment. The small bun got too soggy with the chili. SO, next time, I am going to get the half pound falconey with a regular bun AND light chili. That should be just right. LOL. My partner had the side salad this time and fired, She loved the fries just like last time and said the salad was basic but good. No sad lettuce or gross vegetables. I also had their chilled bottles of rootbeer both times with a shot of whiskey. Refreshing and delicious. We want to come in on a Sunday to try out the steak special.
