I live 3 mins from this location, and because of that it has been my go to place. I absolutely love Mexican food, and in this area we are blessed with a lot of choices. I agree with Juan G, there is definitely something different going on at this location. I completely understand that certain places have their "off days", however, after this evening's dinner I won't return. I understand that may sound like the extreme, but I have experienced "off days" before and gave the benefit of doubt. If there is a new chef in the kitchen, they absolutely need to find another new one. Tonight I experienced the complete lack of quality control, and the worst tasting food to date. The term "off day" doesn't even apply. The steak burrito had some very tasty meat, that is at least the spoonful I received. I literally had to open the burrito and search for the meat. Once open, I found cold carrots and peas, a pinch of sour cream and the most yellow and disgusting lettuce I've ever seen. I brushed it off, once again using the "off day" excuse and was glad I also ordered two shrimp tacos. I figured I'd just eat those alongside my rice and beans. Unfortunately, the onions on each taco were very strong and off putting. I love onions, and normally the stronger the better. These onions were old and nasty, and between two tacos there was maybe a shrimp on each. Well onto the last option, the rice and beans... like Juan G, the rice was wet and nasty, and the beans were nothing but water. My mom, son and I gave this a try after passing it 1000 times. It was fairly empty when we arrived but I'm so glad we came. The food was amazing! They have an impressive menu full of seafood, Mexican dishes, and the Mexican food you'd expect at most Americanized Mexican restaurants. My mom said the mole sauce was the best she'd ever tasted and truthfully it was good and I usually hate mole'. I ha d enchiladas verdes and they were perfect. My son loves his burrito. Sorry pics are half eaten but we couldn't wait to dive in. The salsa trio was fun, the chips were perfectly cooked/salted and I must say their ( somewhat massive) dishes were beautiful. read more

Firmly in the "more is better" camp of Mexican restaurants, La Press is nonetheless a good place to grab a decently quick lunch (or brunch) at a very good value. I was recommended here by my financial advisor of all people, and while he has his standard order of a steak burrito, I couldn't help but notice that the burrito was a single line item in an enormous, wildly colorful menu (#52, in case you wanted to know) and I figured I would get a better idea of their fare with something else. I found this with huevos con chorizo, jamon o tocino, or for the English speakers around here, eggs with Mexican sausage, ham and Mexican bacon. It was served with refried beans and a smattering of Mexican rice. Also a slice of tomato, cucumber and lemon, for some reason. This tastes, as far as I was concerned, authentic. The dish wasn't jacked up with spices, but came with excellent yellow corn tortillas, and enough leftover salsa from the starter (thick, crispy corn tortilla chips) to make wonderful tacos. For $11 plus tip I was well fed through dinner, and had a nice, sweet horchata to boot. If you go the burrito route, $10 gets you the horchata and 2.5 meals on top of it. For a quick Mexican lunch, La Presa is the way to go. And I haven't even gotten a chance to sample any of the dozen-plus seafood entrées yet! read more

We've been to a few of the 'authentic' Mexican restaurants in the Palatine area -- Tacos El Norte, Los Arcos and El Toreo. They aren't big on decor or ambiance, but if you want a delicious Mexican meal at a reasonable price, they fit the bill. Well of all the authentic Mexican restaurants in the area, La Presa (technically Taqueria La Presa) is one of the best you'll find. The food is very tasty, the meals are big enough to split, and they have a wide selection of bottled beers. I ordered a Corona, (normally I get Modelo Especial), and it came with a frosted glass, salt on the rim and a slice of lime. Nice touch! I also ordered the ground beef burrito (I know, not too adventurous) but it was HUGE, literally as long as my forearm. I had to take half of it home. If I was more adventurous, and liked seafood, this would be the place to come often! They have an incredible selection of seafood dishes. In general this is a well kept secret just west of the Arlington Race Track / Highway 53 and just a block north of Northwest Highway on Rohlwing Road in a little strip mall. read more

Came here as a last resort for a late dinner. Complimentary Chips and Salsa were good. I had the Cuban sandwich which was unlike any other Cuban sandwich I have had before. Instead of pork they used breaded steak and it had sliced hot dog on it. The weird thing is, I really liked it! The only reason I am giving them 3 stars is because my wife ordered a steak burrito and while it was large in size, the steak was very overlooked to the point it was crunchy. I'm not sure if they got a new chef in the kitchen or if they were just having a bad day. I order the Burrito Suizo dinner which is basically a Regular Burrito with cheese and red sauce on top. I'm giving them a 3 star because the burrito wasn't very good today, the tortilla was undercooked so You couldn't stab it with the fork and cut it without it falling apart. A nice crispy tortilla keeps everything intact when you stab it with the fork. It's kinda like cutting a piece of steak and taking a good bite. This side order of rice and beans weren't very good, the rice looked and tasted very wet. The beans were also wet and had a sour taste to them so I wasn't very happy with it. Overall it feels like today meal just wasn't on par with my previous visits. It's worth giving a shot if it's your first time checking this place out. I'll comeback here again if I'm around, but I won't be trying the Burrito Suizo again. I'll be sticking to the Milanessa Torta from here on. read more

I have come here many times and every time I come back I ask myself why? Not once have I had a server who speaks one word of english so if you have a question or special request forget it. The food is average in taste and really expensive for what you get. 12 dollars for 1 chimichanga plate!. The cooks are all young kids with little culinary training as far I can tell. This is my fifth time you eating there before making the review. The food is authentic. Right down to the slow service. If you're not in a hurry stop in for a decent quality meal. It's hard to say high-quality because the food is typically serve quite lukewarm and the preparations are really not all that careful. Went on a Friday afternoon , restaurant only had 5 customers . 3 of us waiting for food to go , I ordered a steak torta with a rice water . And it took them 20 minutes to get it out to me , which is by far more than any other Mexican restaurants. I took the sandwich to go , to find out that there was no steak but a different type of meat inside of it . I think it was milanesa , it was not warm and it was real think meat .
