"A Second Chance?" -- I gave it one. Unfortunately, I won't be giving a third. After my first review, I received a call from the manager personally asking--really asking--that I give Benihana another chance. She explained that changes had been made at the restaurant as a result of feedback like mine, and she genuinely encouraged me to come back and see for myself. I explained that I don't live anywhere near the area and that it would likely be quite some time before I chose Benihana again. I was assured that I would be "taken care of" on my next visit and was even given a personal number to contact. Fast-forward about two months. I happened to be in the area today, so I decided to give them that second chance. Unfortunately, my experience was still far below what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. The food was still underwhelming. And once again, the people at the table were far too polite to say anything, which honestly made me wonder: Do you ever go back and watch the cameras or listen to what is actually happening at the tables? The drinks I decided that since I normally stick to wine or sake, I would try an actual cocktail this time and give that a fair shot. Unfortunately, the cocktail was essentially sugar syrup. I would have asked to switch it, but there was no one around to do so when I needed them. Eventually, Teddy, the manager, came over, but at that point the situation had already become uncomfortable enough that I simply didn't feel like making an issue out of it. "Comments and states like I'm I like shiny things......." Cocktails: negative zero. Wine: excellent Pinot Noir. The food At the moment, they are offering a limited 5-6 course experience, so I cancelled our other reservations and decided to commit to the full experience here. Unfortunately, the rice was still bad. Juan, the chef, was absolutely amazing. Better than the last by 100000% He was personable, attentive, and did a great job with what he was given. However, the overall experience still felt extremely systematic and lacked the consistency and attention to detail I would expect. I also happened to see the server we had during our previous visit working at the table next to us. It was almost like watching a completely different person--she was much more engaged and attentive this time. Unfortunately, there was also an incident where an entire tray of soup was spilled onto a 400-degree griddle, creating a huge amount of steam directly around the children and adults seated at the neighboring table. That was concerning to watch. Was it better? Some things were better. Some people were excellent. But overall, the restaurant still didn't deliver the experience I was hoping for after being personally asked to return. My bill was $175, with $40.40 comped. And honestly, that's the part that keeps coming back to me: I would have spent that $175 somewhere else. It's not just the money. It's the time. Getting dressed, making reservations, sitting through dinner, and spending an entire evening somewhere is an investment too. I genuinely wanted to be able to come back and say, "They listened. They made changes. It's worth going back." Unfortunately, I can't say that. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? No. I appreciate the manager reaching out to me after my original review and making the effort to bring me back. I really do. I gave it another chance specifically because of that conversation. But after tonight, I feel like I've given my feedback, given them another opportunity, and given them my business. At this point, I'm moving on. And again needed to start off with no toilet paper before dinner. Pay $200 for dinner and wipe with seat covers? Pass. I don't want stuff for free ever, but if someone harasses me and calls and pleads for a second review, well here it is. I'll pay no problem. We chose Benihana to celebrate my son's birthday because we've always enjoyed the fun, memorable atmosphere and birthday traditions. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of those expectations. Our chef, Andy, was the highlight of the evening. He was energetic, personable, entertaining, and genuinely made the cooking experience enjoyable. He deserves recognition for the outstanding job he did. Unfortunately, our waitress, Arlyss, left us disappointed. After we declined the optional add-ons and upgrades, her demeanor noticeably changed, and we felt much less attended to for the remainder of the meal. At one point, she pushed my son's chair in while he was still sitting in it, which felt unnecessary and made us uncomfortable. The biggest disappointment was my son's birthday celebration. We requested his birthday ice cream, but after waiting more than 20 minutes, it never arrived. No birthday photo was offered, and there was no birthday song or acknowledgment. We also noticed another birthday guest seated next to us who wasn't celebrated either. It was disappointing to see what has always been one of Benihana's signature traditions seemingly overlooked for multiple families. We chose Benihana because birthdays have always felt special there, and that's the experience we were hoping to share with our son. Benihana's is always such a fun time. My kids call it their version of a dinner and a show. I have been going here for 20 years. Our most recent trip was great as usual. It's a lot of food, all meals included soup, salad, shrimp, grilled veggies- onions and vegetables and rice along with your entree. Also green tea is included if you order it. It's a longer dinner service so I would suggest planning for at least 1.5 hours. We always order the hibachi chicken fried rice (instead of white rice) which is fantastic. They have a great kids menu. My kids tend to always get the hibachi steak and also add the white noodles which are really good. All kids meals come with either soup or salad, white rice, and ice cream with their entree. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening (with reservations). Service was great, our waiter was attentive and friendly. Our chef was good, but we have had better in the past. The food was really good. If you join their friends with benefits program you get a $50 voucher to use in your birthday month. They bring out a sundae with a lit candle and sing happy birthday. This is a great place to go as a group. You can sit 8-10 to a table and its fun environment. Overall rating would be 3.5. read more

OVERBOOKING & TIME MANAGEMENT *Even with a reservation, expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after checking in. *Reservations don't seem to be managed realistically, which leads to long waits and frustrated customers. PRICING & TRANSPARENCY *You're asked whether you want steamed rice or fried rice, but it's not clearly explained that fried rice costs an extra $8, while steamed rice is included with the entrée. The fried rice also only comes with a couple of small chicken pieces. *A single glass of wine was $25, despite the same bottle retailing for around $11, which felt excessively marked up. OVERWORKED STAFF & RUSHED SERVICE *The chef appeared very rushed, likely due to tight scheduling. As a result, the egg trick didn't go as planned and a medium-rare steak and medium were served to the wrong guests. *I especially felt bad for the receptionist, who has to deal with understandably upset customers every night. This place has the worst service during the day. Went in here for happy hour during the World Cup as they advertised a match day menu. It took us an hour to get a beer, a salmon roll and satay. We never got water and never got to see the match since I asked the server to change it to the right channel and he just left the remote in the register and forgot about us. Not one other person was in the bar with us and honestly none of the people working there looked like they knew anything about service. We had to stand up after not receiving our check. Despite my misgivings with the last experience (see previous 2 star review), we were lured back by the $30 Birthday coupon and that fact that it has become a family tradition! So, came back we did, and you did a much better job this time! Firstly, on a Tuesday night, there was no wait with our reservation! Usually you have to wait at least 15-30 minutes with the reservation. Secondly, the chef was great this time, no inappropriate jokes and he did a great time with trying to entertain our 3 teenagers and 2 adults. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but besides that, it was a perfectly seasoned and flavorful meal. It was a lot of food, and we even had leftovers. Thank you to the great chef for making our meal very good and memorable. The pieces were small and for some reason someone put fresh habaneros on top our ours. Guess what fresh habaneros do to hot oily food?? It infuses each piece with painfully hot peppers. It was inedible, but thankfully my hot head husband was able to choke them down. If it was just me I would have returned them as it was really too spicy. This is a fun great place, but you must expect quite the wait when you get here, it's just part of the experience. We came with friends and still had to wait even though we had reservations. All good though they have a full bar so the time flew by with the awesome bartender and great selection of drinks. Once seated we had a great chef and amazing food. We chose Benihana in Beaverton to celebrate our oldest daughters high school graduation, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the occasion--especially considering the price. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. for our 6:15 reservation and were told it would be another 45 minutes before we could be seated. Whether that was 45 minutes from our arrival or from our reservation time wasn't clear, but we ultimately waited about an hour before being seated. While we waited, our server brought us drinks and appetizers, which we appreciated. However, once we were finally seated with the other party at our hibachi table, everything felt incredibly rushed. The chef's performance was underwhelming, and the entire dining experience felt like the staff was trying to catch up after running behind all evening rather than allowing guests to enjoy the experience Benihana is known for. One of the strangest parts of the evening was the timing of the meal. We didn't receive our salads until after our hibachi entrees had already been cooked and served. I've never experienced appetizers and salads arriving after the main course at any Benihana before, and it made the service feel disorganized. Another disappointment was the timing of the commemorative photo. It was taken before the meal even started, before our celebration had really begun. Since the table was already crowded with food and drinks, there was nowhere to safely keep the photo while we ate, and mine even ended up falling onto the floor. In past visits, photos have always been taken at the end of the meal, which makes much more sense and actually captures the celebration. The biggest disappointment, however, was that despite letting the restaurant know we were celebrating our oldest daughter's high school graduation, there was absolutely no acknowledgment of the occasion. No congratulations, no song, no dessert, no special moment--nothing. For a restaurant that markets itself as a place for celebrations, that was incredibly disappointing. I've been twice and both times it was awful. At the holidays we went and they had massively over booked. We sat at our packed table for over 45 min with no one coming to check or cook. We had to find a hostess to help get someone. Then the chef hurried through the meal. The food quality was mediocre and way over priced. Today we took our kiddo for a celebration lunch after he'd achieved some milestones. We asked for the power lunch given limited time and kiddo not eating a huge amount. We were really disappointed that the chef chose not to do anything- no knife twirl, no show, nothing. Online does not say that the power lunch doesn't come with any part of the traditional hibachi show. I think with a kiddo they could have done something to make it special for him. One of the 3 worst dining experiences I've ever had. I wish I had read more recent reviews before going, as the ones mentioning long waits with no food are spot on. Our family of 4 made reservations to go here for my 40th birthday. We arrived early and were seated with 6 others (10 total people at the table), of which 2 others were coincidentally also celebrating birthdays. The service started fine...the server explained the menu, got our drinks, and we had our soup in a reasonable amount of time. Then came the waiting. Our server eventually came back to ask if we wanted more drinks but had no update on our chef. One person asked her about our salads and she responded "I'm waiting until your chef comes so you have something to eat while he's here". This made no sense to us; we had already been waiting a long time and were hungry and unhappy, and salads would have at least been something to to eat and distract us. After this, the only entertainment we got was the magic of the server and her disappearing act. She virtually vanished, and we went without seeing someone for at least half an hour. One person at our table had spoken to a staff member who told her they were overbooked and didn't have any idea how much longer it would be. Not long after, I got up to go see the manager. The hostess pointed him out to me but did not tell him he was wanted. He was busy trying to entertain the lobby full of guests waiting, so I patiently waited for him to finish. I waited, close enough to touch him, without him either 1) noticing me, or 2) caring that I was there. I eventually gave up. While I was gone, the server finally showed back up with the tiny salads. One person asked her for an update and she told them it'd be around half an hour. She immediately turned to my wife (who overheard that comment) and told her it would be at least another hour until we saw our chef. At this point, we had been at our table for close to an hour and a half. We had just gotten salads and still had no idea how long it would be before we saw a chef. We felt ignored and lied to. Our entire table (strangers to one another) had enough, and all got up and walked out one after the other. The only redeeming thing we had all night was our server getting our daughter the food she ordered off the kids menu. We'd been waiting so long and she was so hungry, I asked the server if she could at least get the edamame for her. She came out with her entree as well, which meant she at least got some food. I've never walked out of a restaurant before like this, and we tried not doing it. We waited patiently, asked politely for updates and even tried speaking to the manager. Most concerning, although we ordered two meals, all of the food was placed on my plate. My date was not served her own portion and had to share from mine. When it came time to pay, we were again left waiting for a long period without assistance. After unsuccessfully trying to get our server's attention, I approached the hostess to request a manager. I was then informed that the manager was too busy to come out because she was in her office doing payroll. I made it clear that I simply wanted to pay in full and leave--I was not asking for a discount or compensation. This was not about money, but about resolving the situation and leaving after an already difficult experience. Additionally, I had an uncomfortable interaction with the manager earlier in the evening while ordering drinks at the bar. During this interaction, she checked my ID and began sharing a story about another customer, stating that he was "creepy," that he said she was going to come find him, and that she had been looking at his address. While saying this, she came around the bar, grabbed my arm, and touched my shoulder while speaking to me. This physical contact was unexpected, inappropriate, and made me uncomfortable. She continued to hold onto me as I was walking drinks back into the dining area, maintaining physical contact for approximately 15 feet through the bar area as I attempted to return to my table. For clarity, I was consuming non-alcoholic beer, and my date had only a glass of wine and a single martini. Despite this, staff made an inappropriate comment suggesting that my date was "tipsy," which was inaccurate and unprofessional. Overall, the experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and disappointing from both a service and hospitality standpoint. I had one great experience here followed by a really bad one and I really wanted to give it another chance but they failed miserably. We went the day after Christmas but I don't think that's a good excuse for what happened. Imagine making a reservation for 5:30 for your birthday dinner, you get your kids ready to go, you get dressed up and ready to go, then drive an hour clear across town to eat. We checked in at 5:20 and the hostess said they were running a little bit behind and it would be about 25 minutes before we could be seated. No biggie, we can wait a few minutes despite having a reservation. We come back in at 5:50 and a different hostess says that they are still running behind and now it's going to be an additional 45 minutes to an hour wait....despite having a reservation. I ask to speak to the manager. While I'm waiting for them to come up a couple other people express their frustration on the wait and they also drove pretty far and had reservations. When the manager came up after about 10 minutes he was very apologetic and said he was going to walk the dining room to get a better estimate on the wait. When he came back it was still 45 minutes to an hour longer than we had already been waiting. He offered to do something for us if we chose to wait but we were hungry and the night was already ruined. He said he was fairly new and didn't understand how they were so over booked and to be honest I don't either. There is a reservation system, you would think that if the tables are full for the allotted time the system wouldn't let additional reservations. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine concern for guests really stood out, especially on such a busy night. He's the kind of manager that makes you want to come back. There were a few issues that were not his fault--some food came out incorrect or not quite enough at first--but he handled everything with grace and professionalism. Terrible Service - Disorganized, Rude, and Disrespectful of Customers' Time This restaurant was a complete letdown from the moment we arrived. First of all, they gave away our table without even notifying us -- no explanation, no apology. When we asked what was going on, the first server we spoke to told us -- in a very rude and dismissive tone -- that we would be seated and served within 40 minutes. That didn't happen. Instead, they sat us at the bar "to be nice" while we waited. We ended up sitting there for over an hour and a half with no communication whatsoever. Finally, we were seated at a hibachi table and told again that we would be served "relatively soon." At first, we thought things were looking up because we got our soup and salad right away -- but after that, we were completely forgotten again. We waited another hour at the table with no hibachi chef in sight, and no staff member checked in with us at all. This experience was beyond frustrating. The service was disorganized, unprofessional, and downright disrespectful. If you're looking for a restaurant that values your time or treats customers with basic courtesy, go somewhere else. The menu is skimpy. what we were served was laughable . Five of us had dinner and it was $140. Really the worst food we have ever been served in a restaurant. It was unfortunately my son in laws birthday. We made a horrible mistake and will never eat there again. read more

Absolutely terrible. We had a large party and a reservation was made. When we got there the manager told us we made an illegal reservation... whatever that means... and that we were supposed to call an hour in advance to confirm we were showing up.. well what's the point in the reservation. I think in total we waiting like 2 hours for our reservation.... Again what's the point... then we got cut off.. apparently 3 beers is too many when you make us wait 2 hours for dinner and they were asking us where we had been before this and if this was our first stop of the night. It was. Food was trash. Salad made me super sick and was bitter. The servers were rude and had an attitude. Absolutely horrible. First and last time I'll be there. Never again!!!! read more
