I visited Nikki on a Saturday evening and it was pretty packed! Although it only took about 15 minutes for my table of two to get seated. Immediately I noticed that the servers are very tentative and made sure we had anything we need answered whenever we needed it. As for the food, everything was pretty good but nothing greatly stood out for me. Out of all the dishes I got I would say the squid was the best. Everything else was definitely not bad but it wasn't anything that would keep me coming back many times. Overall I would definitely look to come back to try their sushi. Nikki Sushi & Grill is available on GrubHub. This is a plus for me since I enjoy ordering delivery. Recently, I ordered their Vegetable Green Dragon roll, the hibachi veggies, the veggie yakisoba and one extra miso on GH. The hibachi veggies and the yakisoba come with miso. The items were not bagged well so there was some spillage. Also, they forgot my extra miso. The Green Dragon roll was good. The hibachi veggies was ok but the yakisoba was just a clump of noodles all stuck together with no flavor mixed with shreds and scraps of veggies. When there is no meat in a dish, the veggies are the star. These veggies didnt shine. The miso was kinda on the sweet side, not my favorite. I order Japanese food frequently and have several favorite places so its doubtful that I'd return here. read more

There were a couple things I may try if I returned. We would not order any of the specialty rolls. They were very pricy and the texture wasn't great. Out of everything we ordered we liked very few of them. We have been to high quality sushi and we did not feel this place is in that category. The prices try to reflect as if they are or should be but they are not it. The edamame was salted perfectly and we all 3 enjoyed the stater. I doubt we would return. I'd like to preface this review by saying, I've been to Nikki Sushi & Steak. It was a long time ago and I could barely afford to go out to eat at all. But now, I'm in a better spot financially and happened to be in the neighborhood of this much newer location. Maybe the food would taste better when it was less painful for my wallet? Service was good. It wasn't super busy despite it being lunchtime. It was fairly quiet, nicely decorated and very clean. Since it was our first visit, we didn't want to go overboard. So my wife ordered the Hibachi Shrimp and I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento + Las Vegas Roll. Everything looked great. Beautifully presented sushi. The Las Vegas Roll is smoked salmon+cream cheese tempura roll. It was surprisingly warm inside, light and crisp on the outside. You can tell that I'm used to mediocre sushi because I was surprised by how warm the center of a deep-fried sushi was. But the quality didn't last. I watched my wife pick at her order. This was troubling because she only ever orders seafood every chance she gets. We'll get back to her order in a moment. The chicken teriyaki bento came out, not in a sectioned box like most places have it. It was a modern take on a cafeteria style tray. I know that's pretty much how a bento box looks, but growing up in the 1980s, it just reminded me of my lunch served in a cafeteria tray. I feel like I get better chicken teriyaki at Panda Express. This chicken was like they took an unbreaded piece of katsu chicken, julienne sliced it and poured a scoop of teriyaki glaze on it. The rice was a bit dry too. Luckily, I prefer my rice to be a bit on the dry side (as opposed to overcooked and mushy). But it was really dry and almost crunchy. When I finished my chicken, I mixed the rice with the remaining teriyaki sauce. Now, my wife was still picking at her food. I ended up giving her the California roll that came with my bento. Then I took a crack at her meal. There were 4 shrimp on a bed caramelized onions mixed with soggy crimini mushrooms. They were slightly charred, which I appreciated. The fried rice was basic - soy sauce and diced onions in it and maybe some msg to help make it more savory. It came with a dipping sauce? I guess it was for the rubbery, overcooked shrimp that we were served atop the soggy onions. The meal wasn't good enough for my wife to stomach. I was a bit sad but relieved, because it was my treat to her. I would have been furious that she'd spent her hard-earned cash on such a disappointing meal. I am not the best cook, but I am THE cook at home. I eat my mistakes, and serve the better stuff to my spouse or guests. Today, I ate someone else's mistakes to remind myself that just because I spend a day's pay someplace doesn't mean it'll be any better than a fast food burger. Now, I normally try not to be so harsh on an initial review. I prefer to go to a place a couple of times to make sure they weren't having an off-day. But I'm not planning on coming back. The sushi is pretty good. But I already know about 6 other places in town that are similarly priced and produce better quality food. So I can't wholeheartedly recommend this place. The rest of the menu? Well don't tell me the more expensive stuff is much better. If any place is worth their salt, they'll make sure everything on the menu is good, even the lunch special. 3 stars - staff was friendly and the place is clean. read more

Stopped in for lunch before going to Market of Choice. My partner and I both ordered the Lunch Bento and upgraded the sushi (neither of us like California rolls). Sushi was fresh and rice was cooked perfectly. I loved the dressing on the salad. We ordered rare beef and it was seared perfectly. The teriyaki was not too sweet with a nice tang. The food is good, and I enjoyed the overall experience. My only suggestion is regarding the hot tea service. The teapot appears to be made entirely of plastic, both inside and out. Since hot liquids can cause some plastics to release microplastics and other substances, it may be worth considering alternative materials. For health, safety, and tea quality, I hope the restaurant will consider switching to glass or ceramic/clay teapots. Been here a few times before it was good, today's experience a let down. Took family of 4 for dinner we sat right away maybe 5 total tables of people eating. The place not even half full. We got served water and then ignored for over 20 minutes. Our server was busy taking care of a plant near the bar and chatting with coworkers. Took a friend to lunch. We ended up in the shopping center and she wanted sushi. The service was great. The food was good. The sushi rice was a little mushy, and my avocado was brown. But the flavor was good. The crab Rangoon was very good. I've tried the restaurant in Beaverton and it was good also. Not spectacular, but worth the visit. I should also add, I'm not a sushi lover. I like it when it sounds good. I don't eat nori, but they have soy paper. Which I always appreciate. Came here while visiting my friend (whose review is below) and ordered the TNT roll. Unfortunately, some -- if not all -- of the raw fish ingredients were clearly off. If you're familiar with spoiled fish, you know the signs: a heavy metallic "pennies" taste, pungent smell, slimy texture, dull appearance, etc. This roll had all of those qualities. Premium ingredients like toro and sea urchin should never taste or be presented that way. We both love sushi and have worked in sushi restaurants ourselves, so we're very familiar with seafood quality, ingredients, and hospitality standards. The biggest issue was the response from staff. We barely ate the roll because it tasted so bad, but when we brought it to their attention, we were initially still charged in full and told they "only ever get positive feedback" on the roll. That doesn't really address the concern when the fish itself tasted spoiled. After advocating further, we eventually received 50% off a roll we consumed less than 10% of -- which still felt disappointing considering the severity of the quality issue. To be fair, I'm sure the roll is probably fine on a good day, but on the night we visited it was honestly inedible. The other rolls we ordered were below average but edible, which was also disappointing considering even basic rolls lacked freshness and quality. It feels like the restaurant is prioritizing flashy presentation over ingredient quality and proper seafood handling/storage, which is the part that actually matters most. read more

The presentation was nice but that was about it. We ordered 3 rolls, the Mexican, tuna, and TNT roll. The TNT roll was $28 alone for mushy, bad tasting fish. I hate to leave bad reviews but food is too expensive these days. Don't take my word for it, drive a little further and go eat at Syun Izakaya, then eat here and decide for yourself. Couldn't eat more than 1 bite of the TNT because it tasted so bad. The server was nice but they still tried to charge us for it. When we asked about it they gave us half price on the roll. Ive been a server for years and never charged anyone for food they did not like and did not eat. Small but annoying- instead of serving the Mexican and Tuna roll as a standard 8 pieces, they doubled it up and cut it into 5 pieces so there were 2 shrimp tempura rolled into one roll instead of 2 separate rolls. Each piece was about as wide as my palm which makes it impossible to eat in one bite as it all falls apart when you try. This is also inconvenient if you are splitting the rolls with someone like my partner and I usually do. Both tasted bad anyway. read more
