I remember this place as being fun entrainment while your meal was cooked. What we got was bland personality and barely any effort to do a trick or anything. The food was OK. Reservation was at 6:15. We got seated at 7:45. Then waited for over 45 minutes for the chef to show up to the table. Chef dropped spatula and tried to use it. Food was missing from his cart. Wait staff did not check in very often. We were not done with dinner until after 10pm. No manager came to talk to us and full bill delivered to the table. Wretched way to run a business this evening. After being told that our reservation was 30 min-one hour late, we left unfed after two and a half hours. They did eventually seat us and we soaked up the empty grill smoke for one hour with no chef. A server dropped a ramekin of sauce on my sleeve. She picked the ramekin off the floor and never came back to sop up the mess, not even a "pardon me". I would have far preferred honesty about the wait and we could have made other arrangements. Now, at 9:45, we' don't have many options.. We were told repeatedly "20 minutes" when we inquired about progress. We should have followed the lead of all the other unhappy people leaving several hours before. My daughter is 14 today and requested this meal. First time ever to Benihana! My brother and his boys come here every year for his birthday, and this year a few more family members were invited. 91 degrees outside, and to enter a very dark cave like atmosphere took me into an altered zone. Love the seating around grill, and I was surprised when the SHOW began. Our animated chef, clad in white chef-wear, began twirling knives and metal spatulas. The smell of ginger, soy sauce, garlic & onions and the sound of clashing metal filled the air. Truth be told, I'm a vegetarian & was skeptical that there wouldn't be enough options for me on the menu. I ate every bit & drop of ginger dressed salad and light savory soup. 5 stars because they are open on Christmas Day. My family always gets Teppanyaki on Christmas. We went to Tokio Table for many years, but they are no longer open Christmas Day. We were happy that Benihana could accommodate us. Our chef, Andy, was fantastic and our server, Nick was also really nice. It was a busy night and they did a great job. I'm sorry to say I think last night was my last night at Benihana. In my previous review I noted there was a big delay, and I guess that persuaded me at check in of our reservations this time. We had reservations for 6:30pm but it was nearing 7, we were standing in their crowded doorway and it was packed, so I asked if we could change it up & sit in the lounge. (I am tired of spending hours at dinners here). The staff checked and in 3 different ways told us they were severely short staffed in the lounge, it was one girl who was running around like crazy, and they kept talking us into sitting at the bar. Bar it is...but that ended up being no better and by the end I was screaming inside to leave my seat & get the hell out of there. We arrived at 6:30, we finally left Benihana at 8:30. Our bill was $137 for 1 drink, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees. No fun chef experience, just sitting at the bar... the knife in the coffin was being served what looked like cut scraps of fat & end bits from what must have been the good steaks they served to others in the restaurant. I tried 2 bites, nope. The poor bartender was running around solo the entire time and every ask felt like we were throwing stones at his head. It was just pure chaos the entire time. I understand being understaffed...but if you'd cut back on the capacity you'd make your staff and customers happy and coming back. Doing it this way makes staff AND customers leave. UPDATE: The manager called me and made the situation right and is also giving feedback to the chef. Hopefully this was as one off incident! Last nights experience was not worth $150 plus dollars! I've gone to Benihana's for mine and my daughter's birthdays every year until this year and we're no longer going. First we were seated awkwardly at the corner of a super crowded table. I got up and asked to move to another table that had 5 extra seats. The chef arrives and the guy is obviously new so no fault to him but it affected the whole experience. He was good at first but then was a mess making the chicken fried rice because he shaped it into a heart and then did a heart attack and food flew everywhere. There was one small chicken breast, so now that you've made it where we have to pay $7 extra for that, I'd expect more chicken. It wasn't seasoned well and wished I had more soy sauce. He then did a trick where he was flipping the bowl with fried rice to hand to my daughter and it all dumped out right in front of her. Ok, we forgave that. Then he cooks the shrimp, then he starts on the chicken breast. He cooked the chicken where he cooked the shrimp and I stopped him because I don't eat shrimp and hate the taste, so I asked him to cook my chicken on another place on the grill. He did. But then he ended up putting chicken on my plate that was cooked where the shrimp was and gave someone else the chicken breast that he moved away from the spot. He overcooked the zucchini, which is our favorite but we couldn't eat it because it was mushy. He cooked onions and no mushrooms, which we love the mushrooms too and saw other tables had that. The chef experience was just horrible. On top of everything, the sake colada I ordered was not drinkable. The ice was chunky and diluted all other flavors in it. I had to send it back. The waitress was amazing so no complaints about her. But yesterday evening was the last evening we're going to Benihana's. I tipped well and felt bad to even bring any of this up to not embarrass the chef but I am really not happy. Sad because we loved that place. read more

What a FARCE. The whole production from ordering to receiving your prepared food was offensive , and chaotic.The lack of knowledge about the menu was concerning as food allergies were an issue here. The cook of the food was not the least bit entertaining. The person lacked culinary skills and did not properly cook the chicken. Honestly never do reviews but I had to do this one! From the moment you walk into this restaurant, you are not greeted respectfully, you're greeted like another number and dismissed. I honestly think the hostess are overloaded because of their reservation system and they're put into a bad situation. I do have to say the first person you meet when you walk into an establishment is a face of that brand or industry and when I walked in this evening the face was not comforting. Not welcome. We had reservations at 7:30 p.m. spoke to the hostess at 8:30pm and was given several different stories about why we have not been seated yet. I requested the manager to inquire about the length of our wait, he could not tell me ANY timeframe. (He explained my wait like a Disneyland line for a ride) The manager could not give me an answer and just deflected the problem onto his customers as well as staff. Stating that customers were opening gifts and might take a while for us to be seated. The problem is not with with the staff necessarily it is with their online reservation system. They schedule a reservation every hour which is not a realistic timeline that benihana's restaurant can follow. Anyone who has gone to benihana's knows that it takes more than an hour to get through dinner, Not counting the wait. We we're told that we were going to be seated four different times in 20 minutes AFTER 1 hour. We ended up waiting over 2 hours for a table!!!! This was totally unacceptable for a chain restaurant who has a website for reservations! After we were sat we waited another hour for our chef to come and he never did. We got up and left the restaurant. It was a horrible experience! But nonetheless, we made the best of it and said this was the funniest holiday experience we've ever had. I have lived in several major cities and visited benihana's restaurant prior to this occasion due to being military. Unfortunately this location has a reservation system set up for 1 hour. We all know it takes more than 1 hour to get through a dinner at benihana's. This restaurant and many other benihana or any restaurant. A majority of restaurants need to fix their reservation system to at least an hour and a half at the very least. Benihana's is clearly taking the lead on a horrible reservation system! @benihana's your national review rating is lowering to almost 3%. You will be out of business within 5 years or 10 if you don't fix your problem. There are plenty of other local restaurants who do hibachi that have new tricks, all of yours are outdated. Guess what I have heard back, absolutely nothing. Poor location, worse corporate oversight, avoid at all costs. $220 for severe food poisoning was quite the bargain, thanks again! Big problem with Benihana: they GROSSLY overbook reservations. I arrived at 5:25 for my 5:30 reservation. When I make reservations I expect to be seated at or no later than 10-15 minutes after my reserved time. We got seated at 6:20...nearly an HOUR after our reserved time. That much of a delay isn't an accident. I strongly suspect Benihana uses software that purposefully overbooks to ensure maximum profit at the expense of customer's time. This is a massively disrespectful practice within the industry that cooks, servers, and hostesses dislike because it results in understandably angry customers. Sure enough, although I disliked doing so I only tipped 10% instead of 20% because until it literally starts costing employees enough to speak up about and/or quit, this will keep happening. The tipped staff lost about $25 from me last night because of the disrespect of my time that management showed. In addition, I now have no intention of ever going back and will also encourage others to avoid Benihana if they value their time. Aside from that, while the food was good (as it always is), honestly...the value just isn't there. $200+ for two people with a couple drinks each isn't a good deal. There are PLENTY of other places in town, including some high-end steak houses, where you can get as good or better food for less money. Sometimes a lot less money. Final quibble: everyone's drinks at our table sat empty for too long. Not only did I notice this, I heard the guy sitting two seats down from me state to his wife, "Is the server ever coming back for drink refills??" We have been coming here on both my husband and my birthdays for 35 years with our family. Unfortunately, for the past several years they have made the experience unpleasant. Even though we make reservations months in advance tonight was the last straw. We waited almost an hour to be seated. During the holidays waited closer to two hours to be seated even though we have prior reservations as well. They continuously over book with no regard to patrons time. They were understaffed as well and it took an additional hour just to get the salad and they ran out of soup so they had to make more. The table was so overcrowded that I was so far off the edge I had to reach for my plate several inches away. Food was good but experience was ruined. After 35 years as a family tradition we have decided the experience is no longer pleasant enough or worth it. In addition all of the prices have been hiked. My Waitress Cassy was fantastic . i had a lovely Shrimp boat lunch in the bar today and i had an issue with My Shrimp . she got it fixed and had me new shrimp right away and they were delicious and just like I remembered them tasting when My Mom used to share hers with me . Set reservations, got there on time and table was ready. Ambiance was busy. Waitress was behind on everything which made it the worse experience since going here for years. We got our drinks late, ever asked everyone if they wanted a refill or another drink. Anyways got the order in and after the cook (who made this review 3 instead of 1 was amazing! Think his name was Sam) Food cooked and no rice! He told a lady who was told to tell the waitress and she didn't. Saw our waitress and asked she said she'll get it. Had a manager come back to tell us they had no rice and it was a 15-20 minute wait?! Our food was 1/2 gone by the time he told us this. Then we finished our food. 10 mins later got our rice like it was on time and turned it away being our food was gone and nothing to eat the rice with. Had to ask for desserts and then was told they would comp the fried rice (2) and 2 gyozas that came late and were cold.
