Disclaimer: I have only eaten here for their happy hours. And their happy hours are divine! A variety of sushi rolls for $4.5 to $6, chicken and calamari dishes at $6, and plenty of drink specials as well. It's perfect for when you got that craving for fancy sushi and yet don't want to drop $10+ on a nice sushi roll. I come here frequently with friends and we always leave with satisfied tastebuds and not broke - both great feelings. Would definitely recommend the chili shrimp sushi roll. Screw this place. Okay, I made the mistake of ignoring the other reviews. I went ahead and made reservations. For 5:30. We arrive. At 5:30. "Oh, it'll be about five minutes." And about an HOUR LATER we were sat. Other tables got sat. Did everyone just make really earlier reservations? Okay, so we're at our table. We wait. We order drinks. Some come out. Then the others come out. No order taken yet. Eventually, the table next to us is cleaned and sat. And they order before ours. And they're eating their food before we are. No special accommodations at our table (aside from a nut allergy). Slow. As. Hell. The food? Was good. The chef at our table did a great job, was friendly, talkative, and made sure my boys were having fun watching him. The wait, the slow-as-hell service? Fuck it. Okay so, to be blunt, I think this is the most Americanized Asian food I've ever tasted. It's like they tried so hard to be something they're not (and they make up for the flavor by adding butter and using Asian mayo as a dipping sauce). Also, apparently adding soy sauce and rice to a meal makes it "Asian"... So anywaaaaaaaays my friend and I each ordered Teriyaki Chicken, which comes with 5 courses: soup, salad, shrimp, rice (steamed or fried), veggies (zucchini and onions, but we substituted ours with broccoli free of charge), and the chicken. First, I was pretty excited for soup. It looked like it had a shoyu base - the type that you typically see with ramen. It was super salty that the saltiness seemed to overpower the flavor. I stopped drinking this, since I bet the sodium levels are as destructive as cup noodle's. So if the soup was disappointing, maybe the salad could make up for it. TOO BAD. The dressing was soooo salty too! Benihana, did you have a break up? Why you so salty? I only ate the parts that didn't have a lot of dressing... Then our chef Sam came. He gave us a quick introductory show of throwing his spatula and fork - it was pretty cool. He then checked our orders (like us, the other people at our table customized their courses) and started cooking. Since the salty soup and salad left an impression on me earlier, I asked Sam if he could tone down on the salt, which thankfully, he did for mine. Throughout the cooking, Sam did a bunch of cool and funny jokes (I won't spoil it) but that made my dinner (not the food part, I guess) very enjoyable! The broccoli, veggies, and shrimp were decent, but not full of flavor compared to authentic Asian food. The fried rice had a good texture, but nothing special. The chicken was really dry and didn't soak up the teriyaki sauce. And everything was salty (at least not too salty). The portion was huge so I ended up boxing half my meal. For dinner, I paid ~$28 including tip. Obviously, this food should probably be worth at most $10, but I think Sam did an amazing job entertaining us while preparing our dinner so that could be where the other $18 went to. I think the show made my experience worth it, but I probably won't be coming back. read more

I like Benihana, and yes it is expensive, but if you don't like the prices don't eat here. I think a lot of families come here thinking it's going to be like any other Japanese steakhouse and then freak out when they see the prices. I have a couple friends who like coming here for birthdays...it's something different to do. Went here a month ago for a bday and it was a good time--had a reservation and were seated around 8PM. There were 6 guys and we sat next to a 30ish couple who luckily didn't mind our potty mouths and excessive drinking, as they partied along with us. I don't typically *like* hibachi style eating--just cause the food is never that great. If I'm forced to go to a hibachi this is the only one I'll agree to go to as it's the best. Complaint: so we got here and were waiting on everyone to show up so 3 of us went to the bar to get drinks while we waited. Hmm. Get to the bar and EVERY freaking seat is taken by kids 10 and under being annoying, obviously waiting to be seated with a few irresponsible parents. I don't know about anyone else, but when I was a kid and three ADULT men showed up at a bar to spend money to get a drink my parents would 1) make me move out of the way or 2) make me give my seat to them. After all, aren't bars for adults still? Whatever, new age parents are selfish in general and think the whole world should bow down for them and their spoiled rotten critters. Ended up getting some hot sake--only $2 here at happy hour! What a deal. Actually had a few hot sakes while waiting for the table and STANDING at the bar amidst a sea of little kids. On to the food: I always start with some sushi. I think the sushi here is AMAZING. I just got a couple bites of tuna and it was delicious--sparkling ruby red and fresh. Was very good. For dinner I got the lobster and filet mixture. The food tonight seemed saltier than normal, and I guess that's my biggest complaint about Beni Hana is that the food is, at times, over seasoned. I almost always leave here with a bad case of cottonmouth and rapid heartrate from the salt in the food. But this is nothing a few gallons of water before bed can't fix. We celebrated my birthday here over the weekend and it was a great time! They accommodated our large party and we had great service. We did have to wait quite a while for them to take us to our table after they had already told us it was ready. Our food was cooked perfect. My husband said it was the best cook of his steak he's ever had. The chef was fun and engaging. I had spicy hibachi chicken, which wasn't really spicy but was delicious. The BEST drink which I don't remember the name of but it definitely made me feel like I belonged on a beach. I do think it is a bit expensive compared to some other hibachi establishments, but not too much more. A good place for a celebration! read more

I had a birthday coupon for a whopping $30.00 (I've never seen a birthday treat that fancy), which I used to order the most expensive thing on the menu and upgrade to brown rice (because otherwise, if there is any remaining amount on the coupon, those dollars will go to waste rather than be spent on the total bill-- does that make sense?). We ended up leaving and going home since everywhere else is a 2.5 hour wait without a reservation. Such a waste of our Saturday night. I went to benihana on a girls night out. I have a shellfish allergy and i made that very clear upfront. The cook made my food first and it was all good so i had a few bites. After he had made everyone else's food he must've forgotten about my allergy and gave me the extra chicken from the grill. At that point i couldn't eat anything on my plate because the chicken had made contact with the shrimp that was on the grill. I told the waitress and she had the chef remake my food in the back but by the time it came out everyone was done and ready to go so i asked for it to be boxed. When i got home i went to eat it and there were scallops mixed in with the steak so i couldn't eat my meal that i had paid for. I'm very upset that both times my food was made i couldn't enjoy it. I usually stop during the lunch hours, because who can afford their dinner prices? Even at a discounted lunch price, you really don't get much food, however, what I got was so good! I order the scrimp lunch that is served with onion soup (I miss the crispy onions they used to garnish with, but I haven't been served those in quite a while,) veggies, and vegetable fried rice. I always dine alone here and they usually ask if I want to sit in the lounge. I have many times until I learned that the person doing the cooking for the lounge, doesn't know how to cook. I stopped ordering filet because it was always overcooked. Even if I ordered it rare, it was, at best, prepared medium. It was then I began ordering shrimp, and the person cooking for those in the lounge messed those up too. I stopped going to Benihana for awhile, but decided that maybe sitting at a habachi table might solve the overcooking problem. The hostess always ask if I will sit in the lounge, but now I always request a habachi table. I'll arrive 10-15 minutes before lunch ends, and I've been told several times that my wait would be longer than 15 minutes. I asked if I could still get lunch prices, and was told they had to check with the manager, but I could be seated right away in the lounge. What the heck? In the end, they have always obliged. Everytime I was served in the actual restaurant portion, everything has been cooked perfectly. The chefs are entertaining, although that is not why I visist Benihana. There is usually a wait to be seated and service leading up to and after the meal is sometimes slow. I'm not sure why because there never seems to be more than one other table and I see plenty of servers. The biggest reason I go to Benihana is because of their yum-yum shrimp sauce. Oh my lanta! This is my 1st negative yelp review (and I travel frequently all over and eat at many restaurants) but my recent experience was so bad I feel it's necessary to warn others. I should have read other reviews before going but do yourself a favor and don't go and waste your money here. We were a party of 5 with a 8:00 reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday. We were seated at 8:20 after being told they were running behind (not bad). Got soup and mini salad (average at best) and then waited until 9:15 before chef even showed up. He immediately told us how exhausted he was from working Christmas Eve and Christmas and it showed. He basically made our meals without any of the 'showmanship' you'd expect to see at a Japanese Steakhouse. He was clearly tired and lacked any enthusiasm or humor. On top of that we all agreed our meals were way too salty (my wife could hardly eat her salmon and noodles). Also notified host and waiter that it was my wife's birthday but there was none of the normal acknowledgement of this. Overall paid way too much and waited entirely too long for food that was too salty and zero entertainment from chef. I will definitely not be going back to this place. read more

I had heard the hype surrounding Benihana, so i was looking forward to dining there. The closet location is 90 miles from my home, not a problem because i was intrigued by the hype. THIS PLACE SUCKS!!! The availabilty is ridiculous. We wanted the habachi experience, however we were told there wouldnt be a table available until 8pm. It was 2pm at that time. The Las Vegas Rolls were tasty, my Pina Colada was excellent , however my entree was the worst japanese cuisine ive ever had. It tasted of char and salt. My daughters entree was equally as bad. Way too salty. They charged me $4 dollars for extra onions. I thought the onions would improve the flavor, IT DID NOT. Dont waste your time or money visiting this place.
