The restaurant was nasty! The glass on the main entrance doors was filthy! The floor in front of the bar was sticky and the bathrooms were nasty! We had a reservation for noon and got seated at 12:30pm. We waited for our chef and after 20 minutes we asked how much longer and we were told that the cart was being loaded and after another 15 minutes we asked again and were told that the chef has up to 45 minutes to get to a table to start cooking. I have eaten at different Benihana locations and have never heard this before. I checked ChatGPT and there is no such policy. The parking lot was full of trash as well. The most disappointing bar experience. We went at 4pm ish and right when we got to the bar, we noticed a couple leaving - sushi not touched, drink have finished. All we could hear was the manager saying he is going to comp the bill and a server saying they had been there before she got there. At least 45 minutes waiting on their meal. The couple next to them whispered to us that they are super slow. We sat down and decided to not order a full meal. Cons: Bartender was clearly not a regular. She made a special drink with subpar liquor and I called her out on it when she brought it to me. I really thought it was for someone else. She said they told her to because they were out of what was on the menu...,I asked her to take it off the bill. She did and poured it out. Apple sake request came without a cup or shot glass. The cup was chipped and she never came back to give water. Food - sushi was meh at best. I asked for one roll to be tempura fried. They did them both. They were semi soggy and batter was bland. Hibachi chicken fried rice came out without the bowl on top and it was still primarily white (no sauce or butter). I asked her if they could remake it. She came back after they did - before she even brought the plate and said it was still not right. Third time was the charm - she made sure it was right. Sake sangria was premade. Benihana punch - premade. Service - so so. Food - waste of money. I will avoid Dearborn location and you should too if you can. It was an amazingly poor experience and they were slow. My family and I have been loyal Benihana customers since I was 10 years old. I'm now 33, and we've made it a tradition over the years. We know exactly what to expect from the Benihana experience -- or at least, we used to. My 78-year-old grandmother took me and my two children to the Dearborn location for dinner, and what should have been a fun night turned into a stressful mess. We didn't have a reservation, so we asked the hostess about the wait and were told it would be 30-40 minutes. Since my grandmother didn't want to wait that long, the hostess offered to seat us in the bar area and let us order there. Once we got to the bar, it was clear that the area was filthy -- not a single clean table, and it just felt uncared for. My grandmother immediately said she didn't want to eat in such a dirty space. I went back and asked to be added to the original waitlist, and the hostess said no problem. We were finally seated at a hibachi table around 7:45 PM. In the meantime, a bartender had already served us drinks, and I explained our situation. Still, when the hostess came to get us, it took another 5-10 minutes before the bar area was cleaned up. When we got to the hibachi table, we were seated alone -- just me and my kids. That's when a bar tender came over, aggressive and rude, questioning why we hadn't told her we left the bar. I had already explained our situation earlier, so for her to come over with such an attitude and tone in front of other diners was totally uncalled for and deeply embarrassing. I tried to follow her to calmly talk it out, but her tone only escalated. It was loud, unprofessional, and frankly disrespectful -- especially to my grandmother, who felt completely disrespected by the way we were approached. I went back to the host stand and asked to speak with a supervisor. The man I was taken to (who didn't wear the standard black uniform like the rest of the staff) was completely dismissive of my concerns. I asked about the camera above our table -- hoping it had caught the interaction -- but the camera had no actual device in it, just the mount. So there was no way to review the footage. Zero accountability. Once we were finally seated and the chef arrived, he was horrible -- unfriendly, unengaging, and gave us the worst Benihana experience we've ever had. It felt rushed, low-effort, and completely lacked the fun, interactive energy we're used to. only adding fuel to the frustration leading up to that moment, especially with how rude and unprofessional the bar tender was. Her tone, attitude, and behavior were the exact opposite of what anyone should expect at a restaurant like Benihana. And unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've had an issue here. The previous visit, on Easter and 4/20, was also a disaster. We chalked it up to the holidays and assumed they were short-staffed. But we waited over two hours that day. Even then, the service and overall experience were terrible. Now, having had back-to-back bad experiences, it's clear that this is just the new normal at this location -- and that's a shame. Benihana is supposed to be a premium, five-star dining experience -- from the service and staff presentation to the cleanliness and professionalism. What we've experienced the last two times has been anything but. Spending over $120 for a meal, we expect top-tier treatment, not to be disrespected, neglected, and made to feel like we're a burden. Sadly, the Dearborn Benihana has completely fallen off from what it used to be. This location either needs to be shut down permanently or the Benihana name removed altogether. Unless the Benihana brand no longer stands for quality, service, and tradition, this restaurant is dragging the legacy through the mud. If it's just going to operate like a low-budget hibachi spot, call it that -- but don't disgrace the Benihana dynasty by keeping the name on the door. I do want to end this review on a positive note. Once we were finally seated at the hibachi table, we were assigned a new waitress -- I believe her name was Jessica -- and she was absolutely amazing. From start to finish, she was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was smooth and comfortable for me and my family. Her professionalism and warm demeanor truly stood out and reminded me of the kind of service Benihana should be known for. And it wasn't just Jessica -- the host who helped us earlier in the evening also deserves credit. I didn't catch his name, but he was a tall Black man with a mini fro, and he handled everything with patience and kindness despite the chaos around him. If the entire staff operated with the same grace and professionalism as Jessica and the host, the experience would've been completely different. My experience here was very underwhelming. I came for lunch with myself and a child. I ordered hibachi duo and he ordered chicken tenders. Yes I know this is a hibachi spot but you usually can't go wrong with a kids tenders, so I thought. I asked if I could add a side of fries and was told they have fries but they don't sell them, the chef only makes them for staff when they get hungry and doesn't want to have to make fries for paying customers...I will say the server tried and was attentive and the hibachi chef was nice and interacted with my child at the table. But the food... tiny portion of veggies that tasted questionable, rice was good, shrimp and calamari were tiny. Then the kids meal comes with veggies, rice, shrimp app, and ice cream dessert. For $25 you'd think the kids meal would be filling, wrong. The chef made the food and served no shrimp app and no veggies to my child, then his chicken tenders came out 5 min after all the food was done, they were so over fried my child complained and made me pull the breading off because he couldn't bite into the overcooked chicken. They never brought the rice so I had to ask for that and quickly cashed us out. Had to ask for the ice cream which he promptly brought out. For the price you'd think they'd be a little more on top of it. The ambiance was okay although the places smelled kind of funny. Everyone was being sat quickly and shortly after their chef came out. However, the staff was deeply apologetic for our wait. They were understaffed. Which wasn't in Their control. Eduardo was our chef. He cooked with perfection. Made sure to be alert of allergies. And went out of his way to make us laugh and feel better about the wait. Honestly if we didn't have a great chef I would have given them a 1 star AGAIN. He's the reason I increased the score,. We should've read the reviews before we came because we experienced exactly what one reviewer went through. I understand if places are short staffed/ super busy but the service we got did not make up for the lack of attentiveness that we received. We waited an hour and a half for a chef to come out and he seemed like he didn't want to be here. The waitress had periods of time where she nowhere to be found. On top of that our table and grill wasn't the cleanest when we first sat down; still feeling sticky and having some residual food from a previous party. The staff were very prompt to start cleaning up at the very end of our dinner; taking away drinks that were still being worked on which was the quickest part of service that we received. The food wasn't too bad though which was the only positive portion of the dinner. Overall I wouldn't recommend coming here mainly because of the service. I got ramen, no broth. The cook said I placed my order wrong. How? It's ramen, no extras. I waited a bit for the broth. I walked out at 7:01. Something told me to take a closer look at the ramen. Got home and unpacked my food. No egg in my ramen, no nori, no ramen additions (the little white things with the pink swirls) and no sliced pork. They gave me approx. 8 pieces of meat (may have been chicken). The amount of veggies and meat with the hibachi was ridiculous. This meal cost me $71. I will never eat here again. So I haven't been here in a while and I went out with a friend for a holiday outing. It was cool that that night they gave us free pictures. I do not know if they do that regularly but it was really cool to mark the occasion. The people were very nice and we waited about 45 minutes to get a hibachi Table. We would've been seated immediately if we decided to not do the hibachi entertainment. Let's face it we all go to Benihana for the show... Now let's talk about the food so we had a very nice chef he was friendly and charming, which is what you want in a Benihana Chef. I will say though that he wasn't the best at the second best part of Benihana, which is the food. The onions were burnt the vegetables were burnt and this is not his fault but the portion sizes at Benihana for what they're charging is outrageous. I ordered the Shrimp and regular hibachi steak and it only comes with white rice rice fried chicken rice is an extra $6.75. The total meal came to $50 which is a lot of money for a cup of garlic butter rice five shrimp and eight tiny pieces of steak. If I were to have the opportunity to choose a different place, I would have not go to Benihana. The main reason is that for what you're paying and what you're getting food wise it just does not average out. I was very disappointed in the portion sizes, and I was a bit disappointed in the fact that the vegetables and a few other items were burnt. I appreciated the show. Was excited to try Benihana for the first time. We made reservations for 7pm on a Saturday night. This has to have been the worst restaurant experience that I have ever had. We arrive at the restaurant and check in and they let us know that we will be seated within 10 minutes. We ended up not being seated until 7:40pm. The group next to us had reservations for 7:30 and we were seated at the same time. Once we were seated we sat there for at least another 30 minutes until our orders were taken. It would be a while after until any food arrived. After we finished our appetizers we sat waiting for at least another 30 minutes until the chef arrived for the first time to our table. The food was good but the waiting was terrible. The staff was very friendly and apologetic but the wait was atrocious. We could have gone somewhere else to eat.
