I came here on a whim with a couple of friends one evening last week. I've been to a restaurant similar to this, so I kind of knew what to expect. Upon reviewing the menu, I think that there prices are a little high and misleading. My entree apparently did not come with the fried rice so I was charged extra. I did not know this until my bill came. Now on to the good part. Our chef was amazing and very nice. The one thing that I would definitely come back for is their sushi. To be honest that is probably the only reason I would go back there. Personally I do not go to hibachi very often so I am by no means an expert. However, I found my experience at this establishment subpar. I came with a group of coworkers for lunch one Monday just cause. Here's the run down of my experience. The chef was alright. She did some tricks, but messed up a few times. Nothing spectacular. The fried rice was also just ok. The rice grains were a bit too separated in my opinion. I prefer it when the rice sucks together a bit more. Also it was lacking in flavor, so you basically needed to eat it with the yum yum sauce. The mushroom soup was honestly kind of gross. It tasted like canned mushroom soup with some raw mushroom slices dropped on top. I ended up not finishing that. The grilled vegetables were quite nice actually. They were simply seasoned with salt, so I guess it's hard to mess up something so basic. The steak I got was over cooked and a little dry. I asked for a medium rare and mine was more towards a medium well. The flavor of the steak was also quite non existent. I had to dip it in the sauces to get any flavor at all really. After the meal I was left smelling like oil. Overall? I'm usually not too picky, but when I pay 25 dollars for lunch, I expect to be impressed with at least the food. Would not recommend. read more

I love a good hibachi experience and sadly this just was just NOT IT. This was a notably lack luster experience. Our chef did not have much of an entertainment factor that one would expect from a good hibachi chef. There was no throwing of the shrimp or jokes and interactions between chef/ patrons. When looking at the food, not only was it overpriced for the portions and quality received but it was SO salty to the point it was almost inedible and at almost $40 a plate I at least expected mediocrity. Secondly, there was an absurd amount of food waste. At all other hibachi establishments if they made a little extra fried rice they just divided it up between patrons and continued the service. At benihana they discarded at least 3 portions of fried rice which was appalling. Lastly, the chicken was so over cooked it was extremely tough. Overall I was so disappointed. A shining star in our experience was our fantastic server though, McKenna!! She was prompt and kind and overall very friendly read more

The food was okay but the scallops and lobster were over cooked but the beef was tasty. The sides were minimal in content and the server/cook didn't equally distribute the food. Our portions were smaller than the other parties at our table. It also took forever to get the check and then forever to close it out. People who were seated after us had ate, paid and left and we were still waiting. If you're looking for the experience this restaurant used to have in the 90s, those days are long over, kind of like when flying used to be fun. read more

I hate to do this because my family and I love this place but this particular location has really bad customer service. Our server was inattentive, didn't appear to want to fulfill our birthday request, messed up our checks, consistently ignored our requests for service, gave my brother and daughter watered down iced tea, blatantly disregarded each request we gave him regarding food, mine and my daughter's steak was over cooked, the noodles were served under cooked and that's barely scratching the surface. It's my sincerest hope that management takes the time to retrain the staff about discrimination. The other couple seated at the table with us did not receive such poor service. Makes me wonder if it were because we were dressed down. Save yourself some time and visit the Bethesda location. This one will surely disappoint. read more

Do not go here if you have any allergies!!! I looked online and found that they do offer gluten sensitive items. When we arrived, despite the other non favorable reviews, the hostess asked if there were any allergies. Great!! I told her I cannot have gluten. We were then seated and I asked her for a gluten free menu. She said they don't have one. I asked if someone would be able to tell me what was ok for me to have. Another server walking by said they thought they had a menu and left but never returned. Our server came over and took our drink order. Then we started ordering food. He asked me if I wanted fried rice (more on that later) and I stated I did not know if it contained Gluten as I was allergic. He said he would let the chef know. He then brought me the soup that had fried onions in it- clearly not gluten free. Unfortunately I did not know until I had already started eating. I noticed that the ticket the hostess had printed stated there was an allergy. The chef arrived at the table and immediately crumbled up the tickets without looking. She prepared rice for everyone at the table except me. I asked if I was getting steamed rice and she looked at me like I was crazy. 5 minutes later she found someone (as there were NO other employees in the dining room) that got me some rice. She then proceeded to cook my meal and put soy sauce in everything. I asked if that was gluten free soysauce and she nodded. The soy sauce came out of the standard Kikkoman container which I know is not gluten free but I trusted her word since she was cooking and I would never think someone would blatantly give someone something they know they cannot have. Needless to say I was extremely sick after eating and cannot believe I spent that much money for the staff to lie to me and put my health at risk. On to the service aspect. The server asked if we wanted fried rice- my BF said yes. We were not told that it was $4.50 extra. He also ordered a smoothie at the beginning of the experience that was NEVER received. The server came over at one point and refilled his Dr Pepper .... with Pepsi. We could not ask for him to fix it as he was not in the dining room at any point aside from when he was bringing items to us. Needless to say $80 on a meal that neither of us enjoyed and I spent the entire rest of the day sick and in pain. read more

1. The "chef" that came out to the table to prepare the food was not well-trained as when flipping grilling tools as part of the show at the beginning, she lost control and they fell in front of us. Most of the show involved banging with one utensil on the counter in one hand while shaking seasonings on the food with the other hand. 2. The "chef" did not understand English well and did not know whose order belonged to each of us. 3. One dish which was ordered was the Yakisoba with beef (lunch portion). The amount of beef was just one ounce! As a result, the yakisoba was mostly noodles and vegetables. 4. The same was true for spicy Hibachi chicken dish. For three people, we spent $78 but it truly felt like getting only about half that in terms of portions of food. I cannot recommend this restaurant unless you don't mind paying a lot for small portions of food and having it cooked in front of you by an inexperienced chef. Also, check your coupons before you go for the small print as otherwise you will find you cannot use them no matter what as the manager will say that computer system won't allow it. Guess that manager has no power at all to even try to placate the customer with even a 5% discount even though we were celebrating a birthday there. Never again. read more

The server (Hannah) was discourteous right when we sat down, she made an off handed comment about her beliefs as she introduced herself. 100% could of been left unsaid. "Your dress looks like it's from SHEIN I don't support them" asked for no mushrooms on my food and was given only mushroom (instructions left to the chef) we had to remind her for our ice cream that comes with our meal when brought out she brought a different flavor (dropped off then turned to leave with no comment) when she over heard my friend ask about weren't you suppose to get rainbow she then turned around to inform us that they only had orange. Not an issue but would of like to have been told that when it was dropped off. Had to remind them on steamed rice otherwise it wouldn't have come. The cooks cart wasn't prepared correctly on the food we ordered causing everything to be served at different times. Let me first say we usually go to Kobe in Leesburg but we thought we would try this. This is supposed to be miles better right.... We made a reservation via Open Table. Seated promptly at 5pm. The waiter took our drink order. We order the red flower hibiscus tea. We ordered it as hibiscus tea but he had no idea what we were talking about. Apparently you have to say the entire title. It was very bland (Big Bowl in Reston makes better). Soup was brought out. Who knew you could put French's Fried Onions in soup??? I'll pass next time. The ginger dressing on the salad was an assault on the taste buds. From this point forward we NEVER saw our waiter again. The chef came out and was very friendly. He did one trick was different than Kobe. Made a chicken shape out of the scramble egg. I ordered the colossal shrimp. If they were meant to be large then Benihana's definition and mine are vastly different. The yum yum sauce was so so sauce. The amount of food given was meager. After our chef had finished cleaning the grill and departed our waiter returned. Too late for refills. Although the kid at our table was ready to chase him down he was so desperate for a refill until his parent stopped him. The price we paid was ridiculous given the lack of food. I highly recommend you go to Kobe over Benihana. Attentive wait staff, more food, better price, better yum yum, better salad dressing, and they throw shrimp at you! Went to this location for Mothers Day lunch. Ordered off the menu, and did not eat at the hibachi tables, rather we ate at the tables by the bar. The bartender was nice! Been coming here for years, always have the same Chinese speaking waiter who always does a great job. This time he wasn't there and we had a waitress. Lots of things went wrong. I'll make a list: 1. I ordered salad with my duet lunch. I got soup. 2. I ordered my steak medium rare, I got well done. 3. My wife order a salmon boat, she got a salmon salad and had to have it redone. When hers finally came out, I was done with lunch. 4. Both my wife's and my sushi rolls fell apart while eating them. Never happened before anywhere ever. 5. My duet should have come with hibachi fried rice. Didn't come. Asked about it and got chicken fried rice, not the hibachi rice you get when the chef makes it for you at the table. In the past, always got hibachi rice. And it tasted odd, like it was overly full of white pepper. 6. Another waitress firmly told our waitress in front of us in an angry tone, not to take her orders when they come up. 7. The sauce that you dip your tempura in came in a very shallow dish, hard to dip it in there. 8. The white and red dipping sauces for the meat and vegetables that usually do come in the shallow dishes never arrived. 9. The presentation of the steak and shrimp duet wasn't really well done as it usually is. Kind of put on the plate in a matter of fact kind of way. Hard to describe. Not appealing. I think the problem lies with the waitresses, the cook and especially management for not correcting it. Re-educate them or replace them. Do it for your customer base, not just for us. Something needs to change. We will go back to this restaurant someday and we'll hope that our usual waiter is working that day. In the meantime, I don't need an apology or an explanation, I just need this restaurant to make some painful needed changes and improve things. See you next time. read more

This year we went to this restaurant for my birthday and planned on using the $30 birthday gift certificate that was emailed to me. Restaurant manager claimed that the coupon had an error and told us we had to email their customer support to resolve the issue. Being in the hospitality industry, the restaurant manager should have just taken care of the issue and taken the discount off the bill instead of making me deal with it myself. Almost a week later, the customer support email has NOT respond to my request via email. Never going back here again. This restaurant does not deserve my business. read more

Spend your money elsewhere. This review is for 1/2 a star. Parts of the meal were okay but overall experience was lacking in many areas. We had a reservation and the restaurant seemed adequately busy for a Friday evening. Our waiter was stoned, and inattentive. When beverages were delivered and one person was missing their drink he just walked off and when asked about it 10 minutes later when he finally returned he said yup, it is on the bar, which we had seen from the time of the first drink delivery. Getting a water refill took over 25 minutes. Also hair of servers should be tied back so we don't have to see your hair touching items we were served. I ordered the trio which was to include Filet mignon, I was served a terrible strip steak and then after they tried to serve steak to someone who ordered chicken did the chef realize the cuts of meat we ordered had gone to another group at our table. Including the cute little girl who got a way nicer cut of steak than they ordered. The other family at our table had ordered rare steak, and had to ask the chef if that was rare to get them to stop cooking, then just took the medium well steak since it was so long getting anything. The lobster was OLD/not fresh and smelled from the minute it was put on the grill top. Since the meal took forever, from ordering to preparation, my husband ate it anyway as we just wanted out if there. The topper was the men's restroom as it looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a month and had urine all over the floor. Went here for lunch hoping that it would be fairly slow which it was, so no waiting was a plus. But after that is when he goes south. I wanted my lunch meal as the combination with chicken and beef Julian, and it ended up coming out just to be chicken. After the waitress specifically asked me how I'd like my steak cooked so I was confused of why they forgot and thought I only wanted chicken. which they did end up correcting. Also, I'm guessing they're hiring a lot of new Teppan-Yaki chefs because bless her heart, she was probably trying to do the best she could but the "show" was bland and so was the food. She didn't really speak to us and seemed very dis- interested in doing what she was doing, like most of the time she would just stare out into space. So with that being said I don't think I'll be returning to Benihana anytime soon and I'll continue just going to the mom and pop Japanese restaurants in the area that actually give a gosh darn about their customers. read more

The young blonde front desk take out girl (stays on her phone) gets my order wrong everytime and has an attitude when she has to change it this time I had to send my food back a total of 3 times and the second time when they sent the food back it was cold! ‍ do better this is not the first or the second time this has happened at least 7 different occasions same girl. After they sent the food back the 3rd time they opened and closed my food so much in between the kitchen and the front lobby it felt unsanitary to eat. When I arrived at Benihana, I was one of three people waiting for take out orders. I placed the order a little before 7pm and it wasn't ready until after 8pm. The manager claimed that half the order was finished, but they forgot to make the sushi roll. When I finally did get the order, the fried rice was cold and the tempura was soggy. While I was waiting, the manager and hostess avoided the reception area to avoid the angry stares of myself and the others waiting for their food. During that time, they did not offer a drink or anything to make the wait more pleasant. Instead, they ran away. By the time they did show up with the food, there were more than 25 people waiting at the front not only to be seated, but also just to be acknowledged that they wanted to eat at the restaurant. For a $41 take out meal, they handled the situation with the least amount of professionalism. They did not offer anything to make up for their failures. Despite the fact that I like going to Benihana, I would never return to this restaurant. read more

I went three weeks straight to the Dulles, VA location. I reserved for all my dinners. The first experience was seamless and enjoyable. Then came the other two occasions, where the management told me that they were running late by 30 minutes despite the reservation and without a prior text notification. I waited and was seated at exactly 30 minutes from my initial reservation slot. I went a third time and was told the same thing with a twist. I was told I have a number of parties waiting, while I noticed that more then the number have been seated and the time exceeded 45 minutes from my reservation slot. I talked to the manager and she gave me a bogus excuse of opentable doesn't account for the COVID seating but I concluded that the restaurant overbooks to ensure it is at capacity regardless of customer service. Came here to celebrate a stellar report card for my son, preparing to be entertained with a food performance. He enjoys the flying shrimp, flaming onion and other shtick that pretty much makes the teppanyaki experience. Sadly - it didn't happen. Cause that would require a chef who can actually catch and pass shrimp, knows how to juggle and remembers to make a flaming onion volcano. A for effort, D for execution. Not one shrimp came our way. No six foot flames shooting out of a vegetable. No fear of my eyebrows being singed away. Sad. The prices didn't add the the experience either. Some of the combos are almost north of $40. And the portions and quality aren't exactly gourmet, especially for the price. While the dipping sauces help a bit, the actual meats being served are plain. Bland. Flat. Dull. Banal. You get the idea. The salmon skin and spicy tuna rolls saved the dinner from being a total debacle. But I was surprised when I ordered salmon nigiri that I got ONE piece for my order. Benihana for lunch is always an amazing idea. Now benihana for lunch while on vacation is a super amazing idea. We went their on a Sunday afternoon and it was super busy but the service was efficient and quick and the food was amazing as usual. We tried the Las Vegas roll for appetizers and hibachi shrimp with shrimp fried rice for the entree. Also try the mango lemonade which is very refreshing with unlimited free refills. The hibachi puts up a great show that the kids and adults both love. He is very thorough and doesn't make many mistakes. Makes sure you are satisfied with the taste and cooking of your meal. At the end they take your group picture for good memories which you can download on to your smartphone. read more

Worst Benihana experience I've ever had. I think our cook was new and didn't speak much English only Spanish. Per the menu the shrimp were not colossal and both shrimp and scallops were burned, over cooked and dried out. Asked for medium steak but some by the time it got to my plate less more on medium well side. Take a look in my photo. (It will be the one with food burnt' scallops and shrimp in it) Egg in rice was also burned (which I hate) Notified the waiter and they brought more scallops but I was over the whole experience by then. You would think they would attempt to give you half in the tab for serving such sub-par food for the price that they charge (which also just keeps going up) I could have bought my own steak, shrimp and rice to take home and burn for a $45 meal. Wow- pretty shocked at how poor this restaurant experience is. We've been to Benihana in Georgetown and in Bethesda before, so we expected a nice restaurant experience at this one at Dulles. We arrived at 6:20, were seated by 6:35. From there it went down hill. It took about a half hour to get ordered drinks served. The chef forgot to make fried rice for one of the other diners at the table. He continually had to keep running back to the kitchen to get food supplies because the kitchen didn't bring them out. Drink refills came slowly long after the glasses were empty. My chicken was over-cooked and not tasty. The dinners came out at radically different times. Half of our party got their dinner at 8:15 the other half at 8:45- yes more than two hours after they started. The kicker was when we went to the bathroom. One toilet was leaking on the floor. As I went to wash my hands, one sink didn't even have running water. Simply said, this place is a disaster. They are clearly under staffed and poorly managed with a lack of quality control. The only nod to the disastrous experience from the hosts is they offered free ice cream and gave a gift certificate for coming back. No thanks. read more

We went to eat there yesterday and the food was bland. The salad dressing had a lemon taster to it which wasn't good. We got the steak and shrimp which the steak was bland, very little seasoning. Vegetables are only zucchini and onions which were good but not very much. The yum yum sauce was not bad (French dressing flavor). The help seemed to be rushing around with very little help from the managers. Took forever to get soups and salad came came when they started cooking. Asked three times for extra lemon and waiter seems a bit annoyed but eased up towards the end. I have had better closed such as Kobe Bonsai restaurant but thought we would give this a try. read more

Oh man where to start. My husband and I decided to try Benihana in Dulles, VA for the first time after hearing great things, however the overall experience was extremely underwhelming and we will never go back. For starters, we were sat pretty quickly and our server was very nice and responsive. He took our order and then brought out the hibachi soup/salad (my favorite part). One look at the soup and I knew it wasn't going to be good. The soup was so greasy that you could see several pockets of oil floating on the top of the soup and it tasted like it def came from a can. So pretty much hands down worst onion soup and soup in general I've ever tried. I had hopes for the salad but the ginger dressing tasted sour and off so I didn't even attempt to take another bite. Disappointing. The chef comes out, and bless their heart I know they did the best that they could, but they weren't Japanese and during the first initial part where they swing their tools around, the chef dropped their tools maybe 4+ times and then finally stopped. However, we ordered teriyaki chicken and the meal itself was actually good (at this point our expectations were LOW). Overall, the experience was just very bizarre for a Japanese style restaurant. This was quite possibly the only hibachi restaurant I've ever been too that there was not ONE Japanese chef cooking on the hibachi grill. I'm all for equal opportunity, but I think there's an unsaid expectation that when you go to these types of restaurants, you want the full Japanese experience, which includes a Japanese chef. But maybe they all stay away from this place because of how Americanized it's become. Bottom line, save your money and disappointment and go somewhere else. Spending $55 just on food ($23 per meal + $4.50 upcharge for fried rice per person) at this place is just not something I can justify. read more

No host when we walked in the door and stood there for 5+ mins before being acknowledged, server took forever to acknowledge we were sat and would like some drinks, he wouldn't come back to table for long periods of time throughout the entire meal, took FOREVER for drinks from the bar, no bar tender (manager was running the bar which is probably the reason the drinks took so long). Server failed to ring in our app so we never got that. Chef didn't speak English or understand it very well so when asked if we could get an order of noodles, had no clue what we were asking for.
