    BENIHANA SALAD
    David R.

Slow day on Saturday. Started off with the Benihana Long Island Iced Tea. *Barcardi, Hendrick's, Patron Silver, Grey Goose, lemon sour, black tea, and a splash of cola. I thought they brought me a lemonade. 1* for the drink. They have a 5-course and 6-course menu. The difference is no desert with the 5-course. But if you add a lobster tail it costs more for the 5-course, go figure. 1st course - Benihana Onion Soup. I would call this a broth with two thinly sliced pieces of mushroom and a few sprinkled chopped green onions. 2nd course- Benihana salad. A iceberg lettuce salad with two cherry tomatoes, a smattering of shredded carrots, and a ginger dressing. 3rd course - Hibachi shrimp appetizer (3 small shrimp), Hibachi vegetables (zucchini and white onions), mushrooms (they forgot to bring these), homemade dipping sauces, steamed rice, and the main entree. For me it was the Deluxe Treat - Filet mignon and cold water lobster tail. Japanese hot green tea. 4th course - ice cream or sherbet. If everything comes on a single plate, I don't think it counts as multiple courses. Manager overheard me ask about my mushrooms which I didn't get and cut some off the check. I would definitely not come back here again. Maybe for the hibachi show rather than sitting up at the bar.... Nah.

I personally never been to this place before, but the food was very good. The service definitely good ambience is just a regular ambience of a regular spot. Nothing special about it, but I will definitely come back again if I was in the area and the guy who took care of us he did a very good job.

My cook name was Raz and he was pretty good. He was quick, very polite accommodating and professional. I was surprised they didn't make us wait for a whole table to fill up like most hibachi's do. The food was really good and the drinks were ok. Only issue was the drinks took a long time to be prepared which I didn't understand because there were only a handful of full of people there and they were wrapping it up when I arrived. This was overall a great dining experience and I'm sure I'll return for another experience.

Ambiance: We visited on a Friday around 1pm, and the place was completely empty. I don't need it to be packed to capacity, but when you are coming for a birthday, you want the place to be lively. The restaurant has TVs, but the Hibachi doesn't, so it felt pretty lame. Service: The service felt apathetic. Our waitress seemed a bit unenthused. We noted that one person in our party had a shellfish allergy. This seemed to put the waitress in a bit of a panic. She came back afterward with a list of ingredient and insisted that we take a picture of the ingredients listing. I explained to her that I didn't need to take a photo. She insisted. Finally, I had to say, "I promise, we are not going to sue you. All you have to simply do is not give one person any shrimp." The chef gave a really watered down performance, but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. When he did the first fire trick, a couple of people jumped back in fear. So, I think he decided to keep it very vanilla, so I will give a pass, but it did make for a boring experience. He also gave me fried rice instead of steamed, but no biggie. They did give grandma a birthday dessert, so bonus points for that. Food: I thought the food was pretty good. One person thought the rice was too salty. Other than that, it was typical hibachi. It actually tasted better as leftovers later when the flavors got more familiar with one another. Conclusion: Due to the atmosphere and generic service, I probably wouldn't visit again. I especially wouldn't visit again for a birthday celebration. Midday Friday may not be the most peak time, but I know there are other restaurants that can provide a more festive birthday experience.

I think that the customer service was excellent and the chef had charisma, personality, and should do stand up, he was a pleasure and a joy such a guy with rizz. My issue was the food itself as the rice was amazing but did not age well being taken back home for take out, and the chicken and salmon were not as flavorful as a homemade version I would had cooked so there was the blandness. I ended up having digestive issues and got sick for a day or two after eating from here which was disappointing, because the vibe is awesome in this spot and the positive energy is contagious. I felt so relaxed and joyous here. I think the food can be cooked better even though they are generous with excellent portion sizes. I think it is a strong contender for one of the best restaurants in the region if they step the food preparation up. I also did not like this sauce they provided, but it does have better customer service than the typical DMV spots which tend to struggle with the customer service, so they get an A with that making you feel welcomed and respected and not strictly transactional experience, very warm, nice, attentive, diligent, and hard working staff, so they have the bones here, so once they step up the actual food prep and quality then they will be 4 to 5 stars easily. That is all I got!

There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Any rolls with tempura shrimp were soggy and lukewarm. Don't trust any videos you see online of this place because the actual rolls you get are 70% rice. However, in the years since the pandemic, I can't help but feel like the quality of the food's gone down. I'm not sure if the recipe's changed or if they're using different ingredients - but it's just not that good anymore. I recently got the chicken hibachi for their lunch special and immediately, one of the things I first noticed was just how rubbery the chicken pieces were. They also tasted off and not even the yum yum sauce (which I'm pretty sure is different from the one they used to have) could save the taste. They also have a different mushroom soup now that has a lot more spice in it and the taste doesn't match with how it used to be. That being said, I will say that my wife has always enjoyed their sushi here and has never had a complaint on that. Also - the staff here have always been super kind and attentive. We've never had a single issue with the folks that work here. I can't speak of the atmosphere or state of the restaurant since I haven't dined here since 2013. Osaka's is also another staple of Culpeper and frankly - tastes better than Dragon Chef in my opinion. I just wish my recent experiences were as good as my old ones. If nothing else, the staff here are amazing and their sushi is worth coming back here for again and again. Best pricing for their lunch specials!

Where do I start?…read more We've been coming here for years. Years. Even supported this business who could give a crap about their customers dropping down hundreds of dollars during Covid. And the respond that I get when I make one complaint, "thank you for your feedback." Ive never disliked a business so much as I do right now. We came for a group dinner. First, I called ahead because it was a birthday. I said it was a birthday and they noted that. When I arrived, told the hostess. She said okay. The waiter came to us. Never told us his name, specials nothing. Just taking orders. The waiter started bringing out checks BEFORE offering dessert or coffee. WTH. So I had to go back out, find him which I never did, and tell someone else im waiting for dessert for a birthday. She sent the guy in. My check was about $400. I was livid. You have one job and you cant even keep up with it. If you cant, you shouldn't be working there. I contacted this place a day later. No response. This person responds with we take your concerns seriously, our apologies. Are you kidding???? That's the response I get?? I decided to try one more time and reach out to the GM. Even worse. It took Crowe 2 days to respond. I guess they are on their own time to respond. Just like with their service. He said he talked to nazlie and "everyone asked for their check at the same time". So the GM insinuated its the customers fault. You have got to be kidding me! I cannot believe that such a "fine" dining place like this would provide a response. You already got $400 of mine and now you respond with saying oh it was the customer. Note to self, there are plenty of other steakhouse. I will be more than happy to give them my money. The oysters were delish, but the pork belly stole the show! Not only was it cooked to perfection, the sauce was a show stopper! This is a must try! My favorite steak is the rib eye, as it's seasoned to perfection and so tender. The fries are enormous - like a quarters potato enormous! Totally worth trying if you're on the fence.
