My family and I just had dinner here and since being under new management in the short few months it has it was amazing. It reminds me of the Benihana's back home in LA now. Before both service and food were terrible, but I was pleasantly surprised by my waitress Savannah and cook Marvin. Both were honestly amazing, she was on top of it with everything and Marvin was an amazing cook! I normally dread when my parents say let's go to Benihana's especially the one out here, but now I am excited to go back. Keep up the work! read more

Absolutely horrible service. Manager Ron is downright rude and the entire crew is unable to run the place. We had a reservation for 8, didn't get seated until after 8:30 and when a chef didn't show up at 9:30 (yes, an hour later!), we left. So did the rest of our table. i made a reservation for 6:30pm at this Benihana for my homecoming group of 16 a week prior to the date. My group and i walked in at 6:25, and were greeted with a smile. We were asked to wait 5-10 minutes for the table to be ready. We ended up waiting for over 25 minutes to be seated, and were not seated close to each other. At my table, 7 of 8 people ordered off of the hibachi menu: a 5 course meal with soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, the main course (meat, vegetables, and rice), and a Japanese tea. My table had noted many times that we would not like mushrooms to even be on the grill, and the chef still put them on. We did not receive the tea, the soup or the salad, and were only served the main course and the rice: for me, the hibachi chicken. One person at our table ordered off of the sushi menu, and received her food long after we had all been served ours off of the grill in front of us. There was no space on the table to put anything down; it felt more like a countertop. When the girls in our group went to the bathroom we were greeted with only one acceptable stall. The other two were VILE. All in all, the food tasted good but the service was a disgrace. read more

We're at Benihana Dulles last night, party of 7. The place was practically empty - a table with 8, another with 2 separate couples. Maybe it's b/c July 4th, or the pandemic. That explained the short of staff situation and slower service(?) After we placed the order, asked for white rice and green tea for all but they never came - only after we we're half way with our entrees served. The steamed rice came with the tea almost to the end of the meal. It could've complimented the salty food throughout. The food itself: The onion Soup was too salty and the salad bland as expected. 6 of us only took a sip of it and gave up. Thus we asked the chef to go easy on the salt. But still the food was still on the salty side. Maybe he had already gone light on the salt shaker and 'butter'(?) Other than that the chef did an excellent job and showmanship's great. We had 2 chicken, 2 filet mignon , 2 tuna and a salmon - all excellent though. Price point was ok. read more

The service was horrible ! We had a reservation for 7 and got there early. Around 7:30 after everyone who came in after us was seated we went up and asked when we were going to get seated...THEY FORGOT ABOUT US. Finally around 7:40 we got seated without any apology for the wait. The server never cleared any of the plates and forgot the rice until all the food was out and we had to remind him. We had to ask 3 times for a refill on our drinks because he kept forgetting to bring them out. Also when making the reservation we told them it was my brothers birthday and they didn't do anything for it, again they forgot. The food was good but you don't get as much as you do at other hibatchi places. Overall it wasn't the best first impression i was hoping for. We went here last night for a family dinner because my Dad was in from out of town. We could not have been more disappointed. First came the chef. He is the guy who cooks the food at your table and puts on a show for the guests. When he first starting twirling the spatula's and was dropping them all over the grill, I started to think this was not going to go well. Then he started to flip shrimp into his hat and front pocket. He missed both targets about 90% of the time. Some of the shrimp tails ended up on my father's right leg. My girlfriend got hit with oil in the eye when our chef was flipping shrimp Tails all over The Restuarant. You can't make this up. But it gets better. Then the chef gave some of the food we ordered to people who were not in our party and did not order the food but accepted and ate our food. But then since he did not have enough chicken for those who ordered it he gave us a smaller portions and cut them in smaller pieces and hoped we did not care. When trying to communicate with him, he spoke Spanish, and we could not really understand him and he could not understand us. So it was a big waste of time and money to come here. I wanted to talk to the Manager before we left but he was so busy running around I did not want to waste any more of my time at this place. But I have asked for a refund on opentable comments and I plan to call again today. You go here for entertainment and good food and fun. This was a train wreck. I think they made a busboy a chef for the night because they probably did not have enough chefs that night because it appeared they had a number of Homecoming dinners that night. But this was a complete bust and we left very disappointed. I sure hope I hear from them today because I would never come back to this place again. I know now why this place doesn't have the greatest reviews. Our waiter was not very quick, or attentive. His initial order question seemed rushed, then after the first round of drinks I feel like we never saw him again. I had to ask twice for "aided chopsticks" for the kids. Then had to ask twice for a refill of water. I never got a second soda. Our chef "NOE" also in my opinion was lacking in specialty skills. Sure, he is a professional chef but I feel like you go to Benihana as part of the experience of a show with dinner. We didn't get a whole lot of that. He juggled like a pro, but then there was no tossing of a shrimp tail into a hat, no eggs into a pocket, no cracking eggs in the air, and his onion volcano was pretty bad. It was one ring stacked above the rest. The chicken was a little dry, and their yummy or yum yum sauce was pretty bland and mostly sour cream, that ginger sauce was great. I loved their salad with the ginger dressing also, the mushroom soup was not very hot. Overall my kids had a good time, and the food was good but not great. I'd rather go somewhere else like Otani or Sakura next time. read more

Absolutely horrendous! Very disappointing! The sushi was terribly made...all sashimi pieces were different sizes and looked like they were cut with their bare hands. Not to say it was $3 for each piece! You would think that it would be beautifully made for that price! We ordered hibachi at the lounge tables and rice came 20 minutes before the meat. Asked for silverware and it took 10 minutes for them to appear with it (therefore food got cold and gross!) The filet mignon was bland and not cooked to the right temperature. My daughter took me out for my birthday to Benihana, the food was excellent. However the chef wasn't quite what was expected, we had 4 other people at the table with us, one who's English wasn't great. Not a problem except our chef spoke Spanish like the other one. Still not a problem. When she introduced herself she spoke so softly I didn't hear. When asked a question she answered in Spanish which we didn't understand. The chef didn't speak to us directly or talk during the show, except to the other family at the table. The chef ask my daughter in Spanish if she would like mushrooms, which she had no idea what she was talking about. So not a great experience. The server was amazing! read more

The food was amazing and we had a waiter named Pang Yu. He was funny, but at the end he was MAD. We tried to tip him, but we were going to do that after because thats what you do. Pang Yu came back and thrEW THE CHECK BOOK AT ME . I was like what?? My friend also paid $20 for her $12 lunch, and she didn't even have change. Pang YU JUST TOOK THE FLIPPIN MONEY ! Benihana is one of our favorite places and where we frequent for celebrations. But this location was a HUGE disappointment. The cook was unenthusiastic and seemed like he didn't want to be there. And very unaccommadating to special request (ie. More butter, extra sauce). They also charge for extra sauce which I found out later after receiving the bill. We were there for birthday celebrations for our kids and this was not the show you usually get at Benihana's. I will not return to this location. read more

Our chef was excellent. Everything else was horrendous. They weren't "allowed" to make the sushi roll we ordered off of the menu. Our grill hadn't been turned on to we had to wait an extra 10 minutes to be cooked. The worst part was the restrooms which smelled like straight sewage. I'm the men's room there was a sign warning people about the drains which could have backed up resulting in raw sewage on the floors. Our family went there for their e-mail of free chicken fried rice with an order of an entree. I did a reservation of table for our family. We got there maybe 3 mins earlier, but we had to wait for maybe a couple of mins before anyone go to the front & show us our table. Our chef is already confused walking in because she went to the table behind us who just arrived in our table. She said, she was sorry. She did an ok presentation cooking in front of our kids. However, we went to a different cheaper Japanese restaurant before that does the same thing but the chef was friendlier. Then, she got confused & gave my extra shrimp that goes in my order to my husband. I didn't noticed it but he did & he had to check the menu online. We just switched plates. She said, sorry & then she got confused again & not sure where to put the chicken. I know we should get a certificate for a free meal on our birthdays but we probably won't be going back because of poor service. read more

Went to my birthday dinner at Benihana at Dulles Town Center in Sterling May 2, 2022.We had a horrible dining experience due to poor service from our waiter. I will say the female chef who cooked the food was good. All I can say about that night is, if we ever decide to eat at this location again we will need to: bring our own waiter (one who can take orders correctly) , bring our own eating utensils (one should not have to ask 3 times for silverware), bring our own wine(my husband never received the wine he ordered) and, bring our own bartender (so at least you would get the drinks you ordered not refill drinks for OTHER guests and you would get the drinks during the meal not after the meal) or, better yet JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Also, to Benihana staff when a guest ask to speak to a manager the guest should not be told by the wait staff the manager is too busy to talk you. So of course, I waited until I was able to have a lengthy discussion with manager and received apologies and some satisfaction. It is NEVER GOOD when you have confirmed reservations at a nice restaurant and you are trying to get service and, then you see people of a different skin color come in 30 to 40 minutes after you and your party and they are seated near you and you see them receive their service and orders before you receive yours. read more

Worst experience of my 30 year old restaurant career. The service was terrible and our waiter was 120 years old. They asked us to move seats after they had sat us and the experience was so bad that i never want to eat out ever again. My friends and I left Hungry after spending so much money and driving to get there. At the end of the meal we didn't receive our dessert that we ordered and the waiter told us please tip %10 percent as we were paying the bill. I eat Jap Steakhouses all the time. This is honestly the worst one I have EVER been to. The meat is is unseasoned, the sauces are bland and the price is through the ceiling. The show was weak too but I dont go for the show. Any other Jap Steakhouse would be better and cheaper. Otanis Ashburn was the best in Northern Virginia until it closed down... Do yourself a favor and go to Kobe's in Leesburg or Herndon, Otanis in Chantilly or the other Ashburn steakhouse.. And trust you have saved yourself some money and had a better meal. read more

Arrived at 4:07. No one was there to greet us at the door. We saw the staff sitting at a table but no one would help us for approximately 10 minutes. The food was average. There was no seasoning for the chicken or steak. We only had one slice of zucchini with some onions. We were charged extra for the fried rice and there were no noodles included and I was actually charged $3.50 for a tonic water. For the price we were very disappointed. The service was good at least. Considering it as a japanese restaurant, where are the Japanese chefs? I know... I sound ignorant with that statement. But to quote Paulie from Rocky Balboa, "what's so special about Italian food cooked by spanish.". In this case it's Japanese food. I've had the fortune to have great Japanese steakhouse experiences, this wasn't it. This was just sitting in front of a big hot plate with a guy slaving over it. Food lacked flavor, hence the "fancy" Ginger and peanut sauce that I'd be surprised if they were made with Ginger or peanut. Q: why is the fried rice made first? A: so I'd be stuffed with something cheap and wouldn't care if the protein sucks. Just very gimmicky. Waste of food the way it's prepared. Too costly for what you get. It sucked. We were seated at a table that was empty, but we could tell that the servers were stalling on taking our orders until they could fill the table at which we were sitting. Ten minutes later the seats next to us were filled with 4 little kids and zombie parents. Looking around the entire dining room, I felt like there were more kids here than at Chuck E. Cheese on a Saturday night. Maybe I would have felt better if I was a parent, but the thought of eating a $40 + meal with a glass of wine, surrounded by a bunch of snot-nosed kids wearing paper chef hats, was a bit of a let-down. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. We waited longer than we should have so the "chef" could get the orders of the entire table, and cook it all at once. Tick tock tick tock. I finished my glass of wine by the time the chef finished his unimpressive show and wanted another glass to drink with my meal, but the waiter did not come back. My friends ordered fried rice and were faced with having to make a choice of eating it right then and there while it was hot without having the meat that goes with it, or waiting for the meat and letting it go cold. I got steamed rice which was brought out to me in time with the meat, but it was a tiny little portion. The five little morsels (chunks) of shrimp thing as an appetizer was just weird. The chef portioned out the sauces, and I knew I was going to want more, but there was no comfortable way to ask for more, because the original portioning was part of the show. Once the meat was finally ready, it was bland, tasteless and lacked seasoning. I dumped my remaining sauce on top of my rice and meat and made a really bad MSG stew. When I left, I smelled like a big burnt hibachi hot mess. This was not a very good experience. Maybe if you grew up in a really rural town in the midwest or was locked in a small closet for 20 years you would find this interesting and culturally stimulating. When ordered my $35 entree, the waitress asked if we wanted fried rice, naturally being at a hibachi we said yes. Little did we know that it would mean being charged an extra $5.30 EACH for "chicken fried rice". Never in my life have I gone to a Japanese steak house and walked out paying $11 extra for fried rice on top of $35 for my entree? Also menu states that the 6 course entrees come with hot tea and ice cream, of which we got either. We were actually told ice cream was extra? What I was most confused by is why the waitress was so interested in getting the extra $$ on the bill for the rice but never once over the hour + we were there asked me if I wanted another of the $14 cocktail I ordered. I will be writing corporate. Even the couple we shared the table with complained and the waitress tried to act like they were stupid and that they should have known it was chicken fried rice. Uh.
