How many things can go wrong? A. Said it would be a 45 to an hour wait -land it was an hour as 20 minutes. B. Then sat us near the bathrooms where it was stinky AF and asked for a diff table cause we'd been waiting so long and didn't want to eat where it smelled like poop. C. Sat us at a diff table and the hostess TOSSED menus at us. D. Waiting another 50 minutes after we sat for the chef to even start preparing our food. E. My daughter was so hungry and cranky cause she waited 2 hours for dinner and she's one year old and didn't understand, and so we had to have her grandmother take her home so we didn't even get to have dinner as a family on Christmas. F. We told them we were dairy free and they still but butter in our rice so the waitress said they would make it separately in the kitchen for us. G. My dad never got his iced tea and another person in our party never got his water. I got my drink but never got a refill. F. The rice NEVER came and so I cancelled it after 45 minutes and The other person was done w his entire meal and my dad and I finished our squares of tofu H. We complained to the manager, and he asked what we wanted our check to look like. We said we shouldn't pay because we didn't get HALF of our meal, and my daughter and her grandmother had to leave and one person in our party basically ate dinner alone while the other two of us were waiting on rice (that was never made.) And the manager said "no. I'll give you 50% off" I. We were mad but couldn't do anything and so we asked for our check, and the waitress forgot it but said he took care of everything except the drinks so we were like "omg yay the manager actually listened to us." So we handed her the card without seeing the check.... and she charged us for nicks food (he did eat it but he ate it pretty much alone), the upcharges of the rice we didn't even get. My dads iced tea he didn't get. And my daughters Apple juice that took 15 minutes and she didn't get to drink cause she had to leave. We didn't mind that it took 15 minutes cause they were busy and she had water. But the kid couldn't drink it cause she had to leave. I know it's 3$ juice but the manager couldn't even care enough to take it off? It's just rude at this point. J. We told the manager they overcharged us at least for my dads iced tea cause he legit never got and he just looked at us and said sorry and didn't offer to fix it or give us the 3$ back. K. Rude hostess (her name is Amanda) from the beginning ran up to the manager WHILE WE WERE STILL THERE! And was like "OMG WHAT HAPPENED?!" and started gossiping ab us WITH THE MANAGER while we were still there! L. Wound up spending 100$ for my dad to have a block of tofu, me to have a block of tofu, nick to eat most his meal alone and to deal with a fussy hungry toddler for two hours just to not eat Christmas dinner with her. We tipped 30$ to the waitress and 20$ to the chef because no one should be stiffed on Christmas. Paid our 50$ bill, and will never be back. read more

Where do I begin? I took my fiance here for his birthday and it was a huge mistake. First, we were shoved in last minute to a table and had 5 seconds to decide on drinks and appetizers. Feeling rushed at the start was a not a good way to begin this experience. We ordered some sushi plates and wine. When the wine came, our glasses were dirty and smudged like they had been given to 5 different people to touch before coming to us. When the salad was served, the other people seated at our table had to pass down the plate of forks because our server didn't. On top of that, the forks were dirty. After waiting a while, our sushi finally arrived and although it took forever, this part was actually good. That's about all I can say that was great about this experience because it just keeps going downhill from there. Our cook was not great. My fiance ordered his steak medium and she forgot about it so it turned out well done. She also forgot to cook the onions during the meal so when everyone was done with their dinner, we all got a plate of cooked onions to eat last. Weird. When we decided to take the rest of our food to go, we noticed one of the to go containers had a hair in it. Gross. To top it all off, when the ice cream was brought out, the candle was in my dish, not my fiance's so he didn't even get acknowledged. That last part isn't even a huge deal but was just awkward. I spoke with management about our issues and we did get some compensation which I thought was ok until the next day..............we both became extremely ill. So basically for my fiance's birthday, I paid almost $100 for crappy service in a filthy environment and we ended up with food poisoning. We will not be back. Update: After reaching out to customer service in the link provided, yet some more crap happened that took a whole month to resolve. I forwarded my review to the manager and received a response. I was offered a partial refund and a gift card that was to be mailed to me. I accepted the offer and thanked them for their response to my horrible experience. Over a week went by with no refund applied to my card nor a gift card received. I reached out again via email to the manager who informed me to wait a bit longer. Apparently it takes a few days on their end to process a refund. So I wait more. Three weeks go by with no refund or gift card. At this point I email again saying I will dispute the charges and would like an answer as to why I haven't received anything. This time the general manager responds to me attaching photos to show I've been refunded. Well, upon opening the attachment, I see another family's receipt and they were credited my refund! I couldn't believe it! The incompetence goes up to management here. How do you credit another card even after getting a photo of my receipt?!? Upon seeing that, I became livid and demanded a full refund. It's been literally a whole month at this point and someone else got the money I was due. Today, I woke up to a partial refund on my account. No email. No sorry. I finally received a phone call from the General Manager who only received tid bits of my plethora of issues from the lower manager. Shocking. At the end of the day, I have my full refund and he could not have been nicer. He offered to buy us dinner but we refused (we did get sick by eating there not long ago) but the offer was appreciated. He offered to hand deliver me the promised gift card, which I also declined. Honestly, I just wanted my money back (which was less than the gift card offered) to close this chapter of the saga. Bottom line, we still won't be back but the general manager did seem to care and did try. Speak to him if you ever have an issue. read more

We go to a Japanese steak house for my sister's birthday every year. We just left this restaurant because the host informed us that they didn't have a record of our reservation for 14 people made 10 days ago. Which fine, mistakes happen. (We are not rude and unreasonable people). However, instead of trying to right the situation, the host had the audacity to imply that my mother was lying about making the reservation (stated that they don't ask about food allergies over the phone when my mom said that she even told them about a food allergy as he was searching). As we were leaving, there was another customer who was quite loud about the lousy food and service. Needless to say, save your money and go somewhere else. read more

This review is just for the sushi. We went here for my father's birthday dinner, since he had the coupon. The sushi is pretty mediocre...I feel like a key part to sushi is that the rice is soft...and the rice here was definitely not fresh. Plus, the presentation of the sushi was really messy and not at all professional. They do, however have AWESOME happy hour specials (which I believe they started recently), that include half price sushi/sashimi and drink specials. So, it actually seems that it would be worth the pricing to come here for happy hour, even though the sushi really isn't that great. I remember when there was a Benihana in Georgetown and it was my all time favorite place for hibachi and sushi. But they closed down and I was so excited to find out they had one in Dulles Town Center. I came on a Saturday for lunch. There was hardly anybody there but we were seated and did not wait long until the chef came out. The food here is nothing comparable to the old Georgetown location. The salad dressing was bitter, the fried rice was hard, and the filet mignon was so bland. Even the dipping sauces could not save the food. Thank goodness they offered lunch prices on a Saturday; otherwise it would've been a total waste of money. Sakura in Mclean is a million times better! read more

Let me preface my review by saying I am a hibachi FIEND. You name it, I've been to it. Having said that, I expected a lot from this place because I've heard such great things about the Benihana brand. I've been to this location twice, once with my boyfriend a couple months back, and the other for a company lunch a couple of days ago. Both times were during the lunch hours, and both times I was a little less than under impressed. The cook's performance was meh and the sauces they provided with the meal were ehh. However, I will say that the food, if you order the right thing, is pretty good. I can understand how someone who doesn't frequent hibachi restaurants could be blown out of their mind by this place, but like I said earlier, I'm a seasoned veteran. Visited June 4th to celebrate my birthday. A wasted 30 mile drive. No meal customizations are allowed. I asked if my food could be cooked with Teriyaki and was told no: if an ingredient is not in their receipe it cannot be done. Was told by teppanyaki chef and manager teriyaki would be placed in a dish for dipping. Teriyaki should be cooked in the food. Such a disappointing birthday celebration. OK it's been a while since I've been back to Beni's and last night my 2 little girls and my hubby and I went and we had a blast. The chef and waiter was very accommodating. We had the seafood and filet. WE LOVED IT. Even my girls ate it. The seafood was fresh and the steak was delicious. Everything was well prepared and very entertaining. My husband and I brought some friends here for dinner recently. As we walked in, there were two gentlemen at the hostess stand... when we asked for a table they looked at one another and laughed and then said "seat them here" when my husband asked what was so funny the one guy replied it was and "inside joke" we didn't think it was funny. We were then sat and joined by another very nice family. I will admit that our chef was very good but she spoke Spanish to the other family the ENTIRE time which made us feel a bit disconnected from the entire interactive experience. Our server was either very new or just didn't care but he was extremely unfamiliar with the menu and didn't even know what Sapporo was when we ordered it. I came here based on a friend's request and we sat in the bar. The service was pretty slow - it took awhile for our server to come and acknowledge us. Then when we asked for something simple like water - several times - she failed to bring them to us. The sushi is good and I'm glad that they offer half sizes. They also have a pretty good happy hour. But overall, I've definitely had better. Would I come here again? Maybe to check out the hibachi grill or if someone decides it's a good halfway point to meet up, but I wouldn't come here on my own. read more

First off, let me say that this is no reflection on Benihana as a chain. I have been to a number of Benihanas in the US: the one in downtown SF, the one in Marina Del Rey, CA, the one that used to be in Georgetown Park, the one in Bethesda, and this one. The Dulles Town Centre one is the only one that is shoddily run and poorly staffed. I have not been back since our last visit and would never dine there again unless they had new management. When we were there, we were served our drinks, and then waited. Normally your soup then salad are supposed to arrive very shortly after. Generally by the time the chef comes to your table to cook your meal, you have had something to take the edge off your hunger. Not here. I was very hungry, and still, by the time the chef came out, we had still not been served a thing. (At this point, it's a good place to add that Benihana is by far the most expensive Japanese steak house I have been to in the Metro region.) I mentioned the neglect of our table to our chef, and he was nice, but he said something to the effect that they would bring us soup and salad, but he did not say anything to the manager, and he was wrong. Still nothing. I finally had to get up and find the manager, to let him know I was not happy with the non-service. He barely responded (curtly). (Don't do me any favors, Mr.) Our waitress must have been new, but if so she was still a total airhead, because she totally ignored our table until the ungracious manager finally said something to her, after I had to complain to him. By the time our soup and salad came out, our main meal was also cooked, so we suddenly had everything in front of us. Which left us little space to maneuver. The whole meal was a disappointment because of that. The only nice thing about our experience were the guests to our right, who were affable and fun people. There was no reduced sodium soy sauce on any of the tables. (The green bottle tops). In no other Benihana I've been to is it like this. The food was standard, but the way we waited so long for a bite of food, then finally everything at once, was just plain chaotic and disappointing. Add to that the indifference of the staff, and the rudeness of the manager, no explanation for the sub-par service, let alone apology, and I could not wait to get out of there. NO WAY will I be back to this Benihana. And they were all so clueless no doubt the waitress wondered how she received an abysmal tip for abysmal service. (She was young and clearly had plenty of energy; the two previous times we had been there our waitress was an older lady who was gracious and hardworking, and deserved a 20% tip.) read more

My family and I came here for my birthday celebration and this place doesn't seem to be like other Benihana I been too. As soon as you walk in it didn't have that Benihana look like the one in Hawaii. And the service was really bad, for the price you pay for you would think the chef would at least entertain every one and be more enthusiastic. And it seems like she didn't have any training and was put to cook just for the night. Also everyone got bored including the other family that nobody was paying attention to her anymore. I felt bad because I know she was trying so hard to do the best she can but we can barely hear her speak. We won't be coming back here again. We went to celebrate my dads birthday at the Dulles Benihana. The food was good, but for the price the showmanship of the presentation wasn't there. The waiter hardly spoke english and was not very attentive or fast. Even more annoying was the charge for fried rice. Everyone ordered the fried rice instead of the steamed rice. Unlike Sakura, the fried rice had some chicken in it, but also unlike Sakura we were charged $3.25 per person for the rice. This was on top of the overly high prices that included watery soup, lettuce salad, shrimp appetizer, vegetable, entree and dessert. With a big party the gratuity was already added in. The service was slow and the "show" was lacking. We might have had our eyebrows singed before, and heard the corny jokes, but I didn't intend to pay the ridiculous prices just to watch my food be cooked in front of me. They were not busy, and I can only guess why. If we go to a Japanese steak house again, we likely will go to Sakura or somewhere else other than Benihana. 4.5 stars. Been here twice now, the first time for Mother's Day, second this weekend. Both times, made a reservation through Open Table. As I have a serious broccoli allergy, I made that very clear, and the staff assured me there wouldn't be cross contamination, which eased my mind. So the boyfriend and I, after hearing about the quality of Benihana, decided to try it out for Valentine's day.We made a 7:30 reservation. They told us it would be a short wait of 10-15 minutes. I HATE waiting. That's why, after all, I make reservations. However, since it was super crowded, due to the fact that it was Valentine's day...I decided to make an exception and wait. We were seated at 8:15. After being seated, it took another 10 minutes before our waiter came for our drink order. It took another 10 after that for us to finally get our salad."Slow" was the understatement of the evening. I won't bore you with all the details, but here are the highlights of our customer service experience. ~Asking the waiter, who didn't give us his name, to do ANYTHING was met with an exasperated sigh. I didn't think asking for a fork would make someone so frustrated, but pardon me for not having the world's best chopstick skills. ~Waiter took my order incorrectly; I asked for extra grilled veggies with my meal. The chef had no knowledge of it when he went around double checking the orders. It took until all the food was almost cooked to get the extra veggies prepared, but not cooked. We were served bland, uncooked zucchini and onions mixed in with cooked slightly flavorful zucchini and onions. ~Since dinner was finished cooking about 9:15, and my boyfriend and I had no plans of spending our entire evening at the restaurant, we immediately asked for the check and boxes. We were given two small boxes. I tried, to no avail, to fit all my food in the tiny box, BEFORE asking the waiter for to-go cups for our sauce, and additional boxes. He rolled his eyes and said "give me a second, okay." He returned...you guessed it...10 minutes later. I had time to go to the bathroom and return, just as he returned. Food: 3/5. Unremarkable. I'm hoping this was due to the rush of the holiday, but looking at other reviews, I'm not so sure. My filet was delish, but the veggies and rice were lacking and left me feeling unsatisfied. Also, the yum-yum sauce isn't "bad," but it's nothing special. It will NOT match up against your other favorite hibachi place's yum-yum sauce. Have no expectations. Atmosphere: 4/5. Pretty nice. Again, not impressed, but not underwhelmed. The layout the currently have is a bit tricky however. The bathroom is almost in the middle of the restaurant, but you have to fight your way thru tables to get there. Service: Ha. 0/5. Show: 5/5. Our Chef tried his best to keep everyone engaged and having a good time. I think there was only one mistake, but hey...you do the same thing 15 times a day, you'll mess up. So no biggie. Especially since the chef behind us was dropping things (butter) on the floor, and using his hands with the spatula. I think he said he was just filling in, but....... The icing on the evening: My boyfriend ordered the Filet mignon, Chicken and Shrimp Combo, while I had just the filet mignon. His combo came with a desert, which we asked for to-go. The waiter told me it would be in the same little box as my food. I said it was fine. I went to the bathroom, and returned to my seat to view green tea ice cream-- it came in a serving dish. I was forced to put my ice cream in the leftover to-go cups, because the waiter never came back. I'll be honest, the food was good! I didn't like the salad compared to some other Japanese steak houses, the dressing wasn't what I was expecting. This is hands down my favorite type of food so I'm super picky with the flavors and quality. I ordered the Hibachi Chicken, I thought it was supposed to have sesame seeds on it? I guess not? The rice was yummy and so was the sauces, the white sauce was perfect and so was the brown ginger sauce. I was disappointed in the amount of veggies given, really not enough in my book. I've been to a lot of other steak houses that give you way more verity and quantity. A little bit more enthusiasm from the cook would have been nice as well, since it was my step sons first time watching this type of cooking. In fact our whole table had first time children at it! I liked that we all had kids and we all got to sit together! Service was nothing to complain about... but I think I would choose Kobe in Leesburg over this next time. read more

He comes up and apologizes for not knowing we were there because the hostesses did not inform him and offered us a drink on the house for the inconvenience. We placed our food and drink order and We asked him when will the chef be making his way toward us for our hibachi experience? He said he's not sure because they are busy however we can have faster service if we place an order on the other side of the restaurant. We figured we'd just take the food to go at this point. The host took our to go order, told us it'd only be 15 minutes, that was a lie. We booked the restaurant despite some recent low ratings in 2021. I have to agree with them. We had reserved a table and when we showed up on time, the concierge nonchalantly quipped that we have to wait 30 minutes for a table. We had to cancel and get fast food as the kids were hungry at that point. They also marked our reservation as "no show" instead of canceling.
