Haven't been to a Benihana in sooooo long. I know yelp rating for this place isn't that great but we went and had an excellent dinner. Delicious! Food and service were amazing! We came and left early so the place was a bit quiet.

The service at the resturant was 0-10. We got into the resturant at 9:00 and we waited at the front desk for 30 mins. Once someone helped us they their kitchen is closed at 9:30, but we got there at 9:00. Plus it says they close at 10:00. When we called the resturant to see if they were still accepting walk ins they said yes and that we can come at any time. Once I called the customer service team so they can update it they hung up on me.

Ok. This was my first Benihana ever. I've had tons of teppanyaki in Japan but this is not that. This is a fun and chill and a who cares experience. The Wagyu course (yes a touch pricier) was the total worth its upgrade to your course and show. You share a hot table with others unless you're in a big party but guess what. Don't do that. Go with a small group. Share a table. Make friends. Don't expect Japan's finest...just love it. Buyer beware on the cocktail list but hey set your expectations. You'll love it.

I've been going to Benihana for about 20 years now, visiting four different locations and probably dining there around 20 times. The experiences can vary, but tonight was truly one of the best. Not only was the food cooked perfectly, but our server, Mark, was exceptional; hands down the best all-around service I've ever had from a Benihana server. Huge shoutout to him! The chef (whose name I unfortunately don't remember) also did a fantastic job, my Land and Sea (filet mignon and scallops) was cooked to absolute perfection. This location in Monterey has the added bonus of being right on the water, with the beautiful Monterey Wharf just outside to explore afterward. All in all, an amazing experience. Highly recommend this location and if you can, definitely try to get Mark as your server!

It's been awhile since we've been to a Benihana. We went for dinner on a Thursday. No reservation no wait. The service here was impeccable. Very attentive. Our chef was cool and our food was amazing! It's very welcoming and bright. Nice decor.

It's a rare occasion for me to experience a place like this. My party of 4 made a reservation way in advance as the place gets packed for dinner time. Upon arrival, we were sat immediately and given wonderful service. From the front desk person to our server and chef, all were friendly and welcoming. One was charismatic which added to the dinner. We ordered a variety of things which included surf and turf, chicken and more. I loved the show we were given. Fresh ingredients, of course, including a glass of recommended cabernet. I'll definitely remember this place to try more of their food and to experience the hospitality. Come hungry!

Celebrating my pre-birthday in Monterey and decided to use my birthday reward at Benihana for lunch. Been here many times before so I know what's it all about with the show and all. We had an awesome waiter Pete who gave us some extras for our lunch. Food was good as always but I think the Monterey location is by far the best.

After walking on the pier we were kinda worried about finding a decent spot to eat. So glad we gave it a try. Walking in there were like 3 other parties walking in so that was encouraging. It gave off Hawaiian/tiki vibes and was inviting. They have a 3 course special 4-5 pm for like $30. My husband and I picked that, I had the teriyaki chicken bowl and he had bbq ribs. The salad had a delicious dressing and had to eat every morsel. Both the main courses were really good. My grandson ordered the steak and ate every bite of the whole meal. Kai (the waiter) was very nice and gave us some advice on what to see along the route. I got an amazing picture that I blew up to hang in our room. Totally recommend giving this place a try!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with smiles and genuine hospitality. Our server, Paula, was a class act and great at what she does. We loved the poke chips and lilikoi buns. My wife had the halibut, my daughter had the chicken nuggets and fries, and I had the ribeye. The Mai Tai and Chi Chi were outstanding. The highlight of the night was when Paula surprised our daughter with a shaved ice dessert and dry ice presentation. It was her last day of 2nd grade, and we were celebrating the start of summer before she heads into 3rd grade. The smile on her face was priceless. Earlier in the day we experienced some poor customer service elsewhere, so this was a great reminder of what true hospitality looks like. Great food, great drinks, and even better service. Thank you, Paula, for helping make a special family memory. We'll definitely be back.

Meats are from Snake River Farms which is good to know. The fresh Pacific oysters from Fanny Bay, Canada were outstanding. So fresh and not fishy at all and plus the jalapeño onion mignonette was sweet and so good that I saved it for my steak lol I loved the cap of my prime rib but the middle was a bit chewy like it is with most prime rib. i was really glad that the steak dinners come with the mashed potatoes and stir fry spinach (also glad it wasn't creamed spinach for a change). He enjoyed his ribeye as well. The salts are really interesting and we were told to use it sparingly since the steaks were already seasoned intentionally. He ordered a glass of Emblem and I had Bee's Knees which was pretty syrupy sweet in the way that honey is with a hint of bitterness. We shared a mini key lime pie which was pretty good and exactly what you would expect. The free birthday cannoli is so fun and was presented with a sparkler but unfortunately my least favorite because of the odd tasting candied fruits in the cream. We had an amazing time here and really enjoyed our dining here.

We didn't have to wait for anything that we may want or had ordered. The food however... I am genuinely confused about the reviews I have read because none of them are close to our experience, quite the opposite. Incredible service and terrible food. When you charge astronomical prices you need to actually deliver on that cost and just having good service doesn't cut it. I ordered the Carpaccio for an appetizer and it was just ok, I've had it many times throughout my life because it's one of my favorites so I was disappointed that it wasn't as good as I would have thought. Then about 50 minutes later our entree came. I got the Abalone, which I was over the moon excited about because it is such a rare delicacy and you don't see it served often. I have only ever gotten to try it once and so when I tried the first bite of my meal, disappointed is an understatement. It was overcooked and tough for abalone, and the batter was horrible. It was thick and salty, the kind of batter you would expect at a low end chain diner. The mashed potatoes were obviously an "instant" cook and ready type as though they came from a flake powder in a box or bag. The spinach was decent but also an obvious instant cook out of a bag variety. My guess is that they outsource through a third party that provides a shipping service of certain levels of food items to different restaurants and they use that. It's definitely not made from the source in the kitchen. My husband's dish was not any better. He ordered the steak of which I had a bite, thinking it may be better and my food was just a one off. He was not happy with it being he is a steak aficionado. I found it pretty mid level, not bad, but not better than a mid level restaurant would have, at least it was cooked at the correct temperature. The pricing is the real problem here. The food is not what it should be for the price point. That saying came to mind, "If you have to salt it up, you don't know how to cook". Maybe a new chef is in order, as someone who can cook a delicious meal with very little to no salt, I know it can be done and it's not that hard. We will never be going back based on the horrible food/cooking quality, outsourcing of food products, and the price gouging is just the cherry on top of the insult to the culinary world and those who respect good food and quality dining. Kudos to the excellent service, though it is not enough to attribute for the price of a $200 dinner of instant sides and over salted meat.

We checked in a few minutes early and were told that we would need to wait a little longer for a table with a view. The host that checked us in was very kind and friendly, although I didn't catch her name. The restaurant was surprisingly not super busy for a Friday night although several tables were occupied. It wasn't our first time dining at this restaurant. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. I'm not sure if they were understaffed, but I expected our server to check in more frequently and it took a while to get our check. The dinner menu has several options for entrees and appetizers. We opted to share a crunchy coconut shrimp dish and order separate entrees (salmon & chicken). We also ordered a side of sizzling mushrooms and a hot chocolate lava cake. The coconut shrimp dish was alright, I liked the dipping sauces that were included. But the quantity of shrimp was lackluster and the coconut breading was crispier than expected. The sous vide roasted chicken was good, and the portions were reasonable. I liked the mashed potatoes and the chicken was cooked well, a bit bland but the gravy/sauce helped. They also included 2 pieces of asparagus, which was okay, but one piece was mostly burnt and I was not a fan. The salmon was tasty although the fillet had some tiny bones which needed to be removed. Both dishes lacked a bit of salt and pepper. The sizzling mushrooms were tasty although I thought the portion was too small for $10. We finished our meal with a hot chocolate lava cake which was warm and comforting. The vanilla ice cream and pieces of heath bar crunch were good. It was a bit too sweet, so we couldn't finish it, but enjoyed the dessert for the most part. Our dinner was under $150 after tax and tip, but a bit pricier than expected. It may make sense to order the $61 set meal which includes a starter (soup or salad), an entree, and a mini lava cake. Overall, a mostly good dining experience and the ocean views make the experience worthwhile.

You know how hard it is with a toddler and baby. But we also know the importance of bringing them. We were super excited to have an unbelievable steak dining experience. We were in Carmel for two nights and we researched this place to eat at. Upon arriving with our party of 6 everything was smooth. We put our order in and then what felt like over 90 minutes we were asked if we wanted our daughter's burger to come out first. Which we did. After some time there. The A5 Wagyu came out. The stone plate was pretty cool. As a matter of fact, our 3 year old had her first tasting experience with the A5. She absolutely loved it. And so did we! The actual timeline was sit down reservation at 6:15 and first A5 Wagyu to come out was 40 minutes later. Then a total of 90 minutes before our entrees came out. That was the time stamp on our food pics. Finally our order came out which was a porterhouse we ordered to split for two. It had the spinalus, and all the yummy with it! It was incredible. My friend ordered just the spinalus and said it was the best steak he's ever had. The food was definitely A+. What happened next brought the experience down to a 3 star. We paid for our deposit through the chase reserve portal using Tock prior to arriving for dinner. We opted to utilize our points since we saved way more by doing that. We paid a $300 deposit worth points. So in essence we should've received a bill with a minus $300 on it. When we received the bill, it did not have the $300 off from it. So I asked about it and they said they would take care of it. After a very long time, they came back and said they're trying to take care of it. After more time, one of the servers said to me, if I can pay the full price on the receipt and I will receive a refund in a couple of days. So we did. We didn't want to wait any longer. A couple of days later I sent an email and the owner responded with an email from that night that he was taking care of the situation. Apparently, Tock reservations that do not opt to accept points and cash deposits will have a hard time. And since Saltcraft accepts Tock reservations with only cash deposits, I was SOL. A couple days later I was refunded the points back to my account. The food was off the charts! We had a great time devouring the yummy in all those steaks! The servers and people taking care of us were super nice and seemed to care about our experience. Overall, we felt they could've addressed at the end with the time of order till the food came out with apologies. But there was no apologies. They just brought out the food. Then the amount of time not understanding what was going on with the bill. That could've been addressed. After writing an email to the owner, he apologized that their service wasn't timely. "I'm sorry that our leisurely service style for the meal and the lead time for our steak process wasn't a good fit for your family." That was his quote. We wish them good luck and no ill. Things happen and hopefully we all get better from it.

They were both good, I personally preferred the cowgirl ribeye since it had more fat. For the other portions of the meal, I really liked the sourdough bread they gave us. It tastes freshly made. The mushroom side that we ordered my husband really liked, but it wasn't my taste since it was a bit oily. The toffee bread pudding we didn't really like-it was too sweet, very small, and not very well presented. The cocktails we had were stellar. We had the paper plane, Rio de Janeiro, and Thai boxer. My favorite was the Rio de Janeiro; I was watching it being made and they squeeze fresh oranges into the drink. It was a good combination of orange juice and cream. The Thai boxer was good, although I did think it was a bit watery. The service was great and we had a lot of good recommendations from the staff. The restaurant had good ambiance and visually pleasing interior design. It's located in a shopping plaza with easily accessible parking as well. Note-if you come for your birthday or special occasion, they don't do anything extra like a dessert.

We had hoped to sit in a more quiet area or in the atrium (especially considering we arrived several minutes before our reservation time and were not a walk-in couple), but we were still happy to enjoy the night. Being near the bar we were in immediate earshot of the piano player, who was singing soft and mellow songs that added to the ambiance when we first arrived. It was a nice start to accompany our drinks and appetizers. Unfortunately that didn't last long as the music swiftly became louder, karaoke-style songs that the bar patrons were happy to (loudly) sing along to. The noise became so overwhelming and didn't let up for the rest of the night. We couldn't hear each other speak or even hear our server. That type of setting is not at all what we envisioned for this caliber of a restaurant, or we would have booked our anniversary dinner elsewhere. Needless to say we wrapped up our meal more quickly than we would have liked and did not want to stay and enjoy dessert as we had planned. It took quite a while to receive our entrees and even longer for the check to finally arrive, but we were quick to leave and don't plan a return trip in the future. We were quite disappointed as we had such high hopes for a nice evening out.
