I stopped by here for lunch while attending a conference nearby and found it to be within expectations of a California Pizza Kitchen experience. Inside, the decor is in your standard CPK style, but it was clearly an older building, with all the booths having some sort of damage and overall appearing faded. Several groups of local patrons were eating, and there was full number staff present. I appreciate that service was pretty quick. We were able to order from the Lunch Duos menu which is available from 11am-4pm Monday-Friday. *Original BBQ Chicken Pizza (7"): The most popular pizza from CPK, this one was very standard in terms of flavor and amount of chicken. I was surprised at how thick the crusts were for the 7" pizzas. *Thai Crunch Salad with Avocado: I actually liked this salad the most of the four dishes ordered. The greens were fresh, there was a decent amount of chips, and the peanuts and dressing created a nice tangy balance that felt light when eating it. You have to pay more to add the avocado, but the amount they give is fair and the avocado was fresh. *Brisket Burnt Ends Pizza (7"): This is one of the more recent pizza types CPK came out with a while back. There was a good amount of brisket, though some of it slightly dry. The meat is a little sweet, and I think the addition of the red onions complements it really well. *Sedona Tortilla Soup: The tortilla soup was thick and came topped with tortilla chips. You can taste the green tomato and some mild chillies, but overall not the most memorable for me. Overall, I think this is a fine place to stop by when you need a quick meal, and there's a decent amount of options to choose from. If I was in the area and wanted to sit down for a quick bite, I would consider coming back. read more

Then they tried to talk me into having them fried. thinking that if they are fried, I wouldn't notice that the meat was still hard and and dried out. Overall a good experience. I hadn't been to a CPK in awhile and was happy to visit there when we were at the mall. When we walked in, the host said it would take a few minutes to wait for a table or we could sit at the bar for faster service. We sat at the bar but the service did not seem any faster. I think they were just short-staffed, which is kind of a problem a few days before Christmas at a mall location. We did have to ask a few times about the status of our food. The veggie pizza on thin crust was really good - nice and light with fresh veggies. We also ordered this spicy chicken dumpling salad that was really good. I would definitely order both again. I could see this also being a fun place to sit and have drinks or go for happy hour. I would go again but temper my expectations about getting in and out quickly. read more

California Pizza Kitchen is a classic and I enjoy their frozen pizzas when I'm too lazy to cook. Just to preface, 3 stars isn't bad. I tried the white corn guacamole and chips, the works pizza, and the braised short rib ragu. The ragu actually exceeded my expectations, with the meat bring super tender and the sauce having a deep, savory flavor. The other two dishes were just alright. I asked our waiter for suggestions but he referred me to the yellow boxes on the menu as those are the popular choice. Wow that was definitely not the CPK I've known and loved. Corporate needs to send a kitchen team there to crack the whip. I've had good experiences w CPK everywhere else I've been ( Florida, Denver, Boston, etc) but this one has gone down hill (according to my relative from the area). Mushroom pizza - super thin shaved domestic mushrooms ( maybe the equivalent of one mushroom total - I am so not kidding) and they forgot the truffle oil. That's half the reason people order it!! And generally everything wasn't spread around the pizza well. Manager sent a new one ( the BBQ ) and it as well had issue w all the stuff bunched up in 2 slices w the rest of the pie empty of "the good stuff". Guacamole had so much "filler" ( jicama, corn, jalepenos - my 11 yr old son said jeez, everything BUT Avocado!). My uncles salad was sent w dressing when he asked for it on the side. My aunts Margherita pizza also lacking spread out ingredients and not spread around outside for the crust - just an overall lack of effort from the pizza guy that day. Server was excellent, and the manager was good too and comp'd the salad, as well as the extra BBQ pizza. But I bet you he didn't say anything to the kitchen manager about the complaint/pizza quality. Why not??? How is a place supposed to get better if it's not being "managed"? So, all The problems stemmed from the kitchen. C'mon CPK, you have a better reputation than this! We are regulars at Del Monte CPK Monterey, CA. Tonight we had dinner. We walked into this restaurant and noticed a lot of tables with dirty dishes and unprepared for guests. We were offered one of the few choices of cleared and cleaned tables. A sweet waiter was very efficient and brought our orders appropriately. She was very polite. We watched the Manager standing around talking. Not once did he pitch in to address the mess in the dining room. It was disgraceful that he didn't do anything to ready this restaurant for a welcoming crowd for dining. We usually eat lunch here. Amalia is our favorite waiter. If she was on duty this dishevelment would not have happened. She would have bussed and cleaned the tables herself. Not a good experience tonight. Nice surprise. The last couple times I was there I was disappointed. I did not think I would return. However, due to unforeseen circumstances I landed there today. They had some new menu items. Not sure what it was called, but I had was basically a cheese burger on a salad with bacon, tomato, onion and avocado. It was wonderful. My sister had the same. We have eaten here at least 100 times over the years. But this week we made the difficult decision to no longer go to CPK at the Del Monte Mall in Monterey. Over the last year the restaurant has been freezing all the time. The problem is particularly bad near the windows. The air conditioning runs at full blast every hour the restaurant is open, no matter how cold the temperature is inside. It's as if the thermostat controls do not work. I mentioned it to our waitress last month, she said they get a lot of complaints about it, and she would pass on our complaint to the manager. But we went again last week and it was worse than ever. read more

This is my second time visiting CPK. The service was just as friendly as before and the food was pretty darn good. The BBQ Chicken Salad was a good size and the chicken itself was well flavored. The Hawaiian pizza on the other hand was a bit basic. It didn't taste "bad" by any measure but it also didn't "wow" me. I likely wouldn't order it again. In fact, the Thai chicken salad I ordered last time and the BBQ Chicken Pizza from last time were both better choices. You never know until you try! I saw advertisements for a pretty good weekly lunch special. I'm interested in coming back and trying some of those other options soon. read more

Late afternoon lunch on a Saturday. Wasn't busy. Plenty of parking. Our original wait staff was sent home after giving us our drinks. Our food came super fast after we ordered but then no one check on us for a long time. We weren't in a rush but it was a really long time. The bartender was assigned to take our table which didn't make sense since she was busy at the bar. Bread and olive oil to start was good. Asked for another serving to eat with the soup. Food is really not good & terrible, poorly trained pizza makers. 4x in a row have gotten bad, carry out pizzas with rotten, substituted and/or missing ingredients from what is advertised. Somewhere between 3 - 4 stars, the vegetable pizza was ok with generous toppings but their "signature bbq chicken salad" needs work. The salad is primarily iceberg lettuce overly sauced to mask an otherwise anemic dish weak on ingredients. Just not worth the price paid. Stopped for a pizza. We were greeted at the door but, it seemed like it took awhile for someone to take our order. I almost thought they might have forgot about us. I was on the edge of leaving when someone finally came to take our order. I ended up ordering a pepperoni pizza for my kid and I. When we received our pizza, it was a little on the greasy side that my kid was hesitant to eat it. He ended up eating it and liking it. I think their pizza comes only in one size which is about the size of a medium. It was thin and not very filling. I could've ordered a pizza for myself and the kid but I went with the recommendation of the waitress that the pizza would be plenty for my kid and I. I was still hungry and ended up going to jack in the box after. Yah the service was not that good and the pizza wasn't all that good either. They gave us some vouchers if we were to come back but I won't be coming back. I'll try another pizza place instead. read more
