BENIHANA SALAD
David R.

Slow day on Saturday. Started off with the Benihana Long Island Iced Tea. *Barcardi, Hendrick's, Patron Silver, Grey Goose, lemon sour, black tea, and a splash of cola. I thought they brought me a lemonade. 1* for the drink. They have a 5-course and 6-course menu. The difference is no desert with the 5-course. But if you add a lobster tail it costs more for the 5-course, go figure. 1st course - Benihana Onion Soup. I would call this a broth with two thinly sliced pieces of mushroom and a few sprinkled chopped green onions. 2nd course- Benihana salad. A iceberg lettuce salad with two cherry tomatoes, a smattering of shredded carrots, and a ginger dressing. 3rd course - Hibachi shrimp appetizer (3 small shrimp), Hibachi vegetables (zucchini and white onions), mushrooms (they forgot to bring these), homemade dipping sauces, steamed rice, and the main entree. For me it was the Deluxe Treat - Filet mignon and cold water lobster tail. Japanese hot green tea. 4th course - ice cream or sherbet. If everything comes on a single plate, I don't think it counts as multiple courses. Manager overheard me ask about my mushrooms which I didn't get and cut some off the check. I would definitely not come back here again. Maybe for the hibachi show rather than sitting up at the bar.... Nah.

I personally never been to this place before, but the food was very good. The service definitely good ambience is just a regular ambience of a regular spot. Nothing special about it, but I will definitely come back again if I was in the area and the guy who took care of us he did a very good job.

An experience that is on its last legs and needs a post-covid revitalization, but which, in its current state, misses the mark. The food is as odd in pricing as it is in portion sizes; is questionably seasoned and executed; and does not always taste evenly fresh across the board. While I understand the costs of running such a business are high, the menu does not accurately reflect the quality of product. The prices are not always transparent either; particularly in the case of email coupon redemptions. What was stated in my email was at odds with what an on-site manager deemed to be the procedural minimum to utilize the coupon. Let's just say there was a big difference. I took it on the chin, as I generally lack the desire to argue; and I offer lenity toward struggling businesses. Lastly, I did not receive all the products I ordered and yet I was still charged for them. I just wanted to hurry up and finish my meal, however, so I did not raise the issue as the difference was quite small (but still noticeable). Come for the nostalgia, if you must, but be warned and tepid in expectations.

The food was delicious and the chef was very talented and funny. I have food allergies and they were able to accommodate my issues.

Super yummy food as always. It was fun to have a first timer there as well and to have them enjoy all of the show and food as I have.

My cook name was Raz and he was pretty good. He was quick, very polite accommodating and professional. I was surprised they didn't make us wait for a whole table to fill up like most hibachi's do. The food was really good and the drinks were ok. Only issue was the drinks took a long time to be prepared which I didn't understand because there were only a handful of full of people there and they were wrapping it up when I arrived. This was overall a great dining experience and I'm sure I'll return for another experience.

While visiting Alexandria, we decided to grab dinner at a Japanese steakhouse. After a quick Google…read moresearch, we landed on Sake Japanese Steakhouse. Now I'll be honest--when we first pulled up, it looked a little sketch. But the reviews were solid (4+ stars), so we said why not--and went for it. I had a party of 11, and we were seated within minutes, which was a huge plus! The place wasn't too crowded, a bit on the smaller side, and didn't have all the usual flair and flames you might expect from a Japanese steakhouse--but hey, we were already in, so let's go! The staff was friendly overall. Our waiter Genard really tried to keep up with our large group. He missed a few things here and there, but nothing major--overall, he did a decent job. Let's get into the food... The salad came out nice and cold, but that ginger dressing? Whew... not for me. It tasted really heavy on the mayo and overpowered the ginger flavor. I sent it back and got the ginger dipping sauce instead--and that actually worked much better! The soup was hot and fresh like it should be. It had mushrooms (not my thing), so I just pushed those to the side. Now the main event--the food was GOOD! I actually loved that they added vegetables like peas and carrots into the rice--nice little touch you don't always see. The shrimp was tender, the chicken was delicious, and I really appreciated how finely chopped it was instead of big chunks--it made it more tender and soaked up that teriyaki flavor perfectly. The vegetables were cooked just how I like them--crisp broccoli, carrots, onions... flavorful and not overcooked at all. And let's not forget the plum wine--nice, cold, sweet, and exactly what I needed after a long day running around with kids for spring break. It definitely hit the spot! And the BEST part? The pricing! Very reasonable--especially compared to Japanese Hibachi in other cities! $30 for a combo is ALWAYS a win! Overall, we had a really good time. Most of the group enjoyed their food--maybe one or two minor complaints, but nothing major. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. If you're in Alexandria, it's worth checking out!

Even without a reservation, I was seated immediately, which was a great first impression. The service was excellent. Our server mentioned it was her first day, but you would never have guessed as she was attentive, warm, and handled everything beautifully. The food truly stood out. The sushi was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The hibachi experience was just as enjoyable. The chef was entertaining, skilled, and added a fun, engaging touch to the meal. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, and has a great atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy your time. I'll definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great sushi or hibachi experience.

We ordered a party boat that was about $81 which is more than reasonable. Finished almost all of it. I also had my 2 piece roe selection since that's my personal favorite. Service was nice. We had a waiter in training so it took just a bit longer but he did a good job. Ordered a Yueling and drank my draft in a cold glass. The fried oysters and seaweed salad were just ok but I liked their tempura. It's a very casual restaurant with a huge bar, some tables and habachi.

We came back tonight for the AYCE. You order from an app that you connect from your phone. The…read moreordering was easy and each person in the party can order items at the same time. There's a limit on nigiri/sashimi to one piece per order. What that means is that, when you put in your first (and subsequent orders), you can order one tuna, one salmon, etc nigiri/sashimi. That is a lot better than what I originally thought, which was one nigiri/sashimi total for each round. The variety in the AYCE is impressive. Lots of sushi, sashimi, nigiri, salads, soups, variety of appetizers (not all fried stuff!) and hibachi (beef, chicken and shrimp). Tonight, the food arrived pretty quickly after we put in an order. There was an issue toward the end of the evening when the app stopped working at our table and the table next to ours. The Staff did what they could to fix things; it did take about 20 minutes, though. I'm assuming this isn't typical. Staff did say that this does happen from time to time and the customer needs to exit the app and reorder. Except for the 20 minute delay, things worked fine. We placed at least 12 small orders during our meal. The staff was very good about filling water glasses, bringing our food and taking away empty plates. Really - high praise for the staff. The restaurant is very pleasant to sit in. It has Asian motif and nice music playing over the PA. The only issue was with the ordering system, which, as I said, I'm thinking was unusual. Ice cream and soft drinks included.

However, in the years since the pandemic, I can't help but feel like the quality of the food's gone down. I'm not sure if the recipe's changed or if they're using different ingredients - but it's just not that good anymore. I recently got the chicken hibachi for their lunch special and immediately, one of the things I first noticed was just how rubbery the chicken pieces were. They also tasted off and not even the yum yum sauce (which I'm pretty sure is different from the one they used to have) could save the taste. They also have a different mushroom soup now that has a lot more spice in it and the taste doesn't match with how it used to be. That being said, I will say that my wife has always enjoyed their sushi here and has never had a complaint on that. Also - the staff here have always been super kind and attentive. We've never had a single issue with the folks that work here. I can't speak of the atmosphere or state of the restaurant since I haven't dined here since 2013. Osaka's is also another staple of Culpeper and frankly - tastes better than Dragon Chef in my opinion. I just wish my recent experiences were as good as my old ones. If nothing else, the staff here are amazing and their sushi is worth coming back here for again and again. Best pricing for their lunch specials!

Azumi was the perfect pre-show dinner spot before heading to see Dave Chappelle at CFG Arena…read more We grabbed seats at the sushi bar and had a great experience from start to finish. For drinks, I ordered an espresso martini with tequila. Our server suggested adding Baileys to the first one, and while I gave it a try, it quickly reminded me that I am firmly Team No Baileys in my espresso martinis. Thankfully, the second one was exactly how I like it. For food, we started with the house salad, yellowtail roll, and crispy rice with tuna. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. For our entrée, I had my heart set on the miso black cod, but my dining companion is a devoted branzino fan. After talking through both dishes with our server, he strongly recommended the branzino. I'll never admit this to him directly, but the server may have been right. The fish was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. One small thing to note is that we had to ask for soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger after our sushi arrived. This seems to be becoming more common at restaurants these days, and I'm guessing it's an effort to reduce waste, which I can appreciate. It wasn't a big deal at all, but if you're a sushi traditionalist like me, don't be surprised if you need to request the full set of accompaniments. One thing that really stood out was the service. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and honest when we asked about menu items. We mentioned that we were running a bit behind for our show, and he made sure our food came out quickly without making us feel rushed. The restaurant itself is stylish and upscale, though a bit smaller than some of the other waterfront restaurants nearby. There's a nice bar area, sushi bar seating, and a lively atmosphere without feeling overwhelming. They also offer valet parking. We initially assumed it was only for The Ruxton next door since that's where it was stationed, but our server later let us know it's available for Azumi guests as well. Good information for next time! Pricing felt appropriate for a waterfront sushi and seafood restaurant in Harbor East. The portions matched the price point, and we left satisfied without feeling like we overpaid. Overall, Azumi delivered great food, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. While Baltimore has plenty of great dining options, I'd happily return if I'm back in the area and not in the mood to try somewhere new.
