Absolutely horrible. Over $100 for very poor tasting food and tiny, tiny portions. Literally every other Japanese place in the area is leaps and bounds ahead. I did an online takeout order today: - Order ready time was supposed to be 6:14. I went in and checked at 6 and it was ready. I'm glad I went in when I did because I got no notification of it being done early. And even still it was already cold so who knows how long it was out. The hostess was extremely rude and dismissive when I walked in and inquired about the order. - White rice with hibachi instead of fried? Wtf. - Zucchini and TONS of onions for the veg. 85% onion. No carrots or anything else. - Undercooked chicken. Flavorless meats overall. - Salad dressings were overly salty and otherwise flavorless. - Noodles were not even trying to be Asian. Just fettuccine with some black pepper on them. - They completely forgot my rainbow roll. Like a whole order of $15 sushi just missing. I called the restaurant and got a refund for it. Kind of wish I could just send the whole thing back. - I also ordered some additional side dipping sauces, which they charge extra for, yet those were also missing. Never again! read more

Between a late lunch and early dinner is not the time to visit this restaurant. It almost felt abandoned with one table finishing and two other patrons waiting at a table for eight for us to join them. The staff were all Spanish speaking which seemed a little wrong for an American Asian restaurant. The real problem was an language barrier and that the waitress got our order wrong. Adding to that, the steaks were both tasteless and had no seasoning. We have eaten in Benihana's in many different locations. This one is currently at the bottom of our list. read more

Made a reservation this morning, and was able to get a table for 9 within a few hours. We checked in, and were greeted by a friendly host, and promptly sat. Our server was extremely friendly, and helpful. Our chef Rufino had very impressive skills & tricks. His cooking was amazing. That was the best fried rice, I've ever had! The filet mignon was perfect, so tender, each bite melted in your mouth. All the staff was super friendly. They even brought out ice cream with candles for our birthdays (most places just do pineapple boats). But I appreciated the ice cream since we had our kids with us.the whole family had a great time, and enjoyed the food. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area! read more

Terrible experience! Racist staff. We had reservations and were seated late. Then we had to wait 25 minutes before they sent out a kitchen worker that did no tricks. While tables around us were flaming fire everywhere and tossing food in the air. Our cook just stood there and cooked subpar food. The cook asked us if we wanted mushrooms, we said "yes" and the cook proceeded to not give them to us. My daughter later told me that the waiter hid behind a wall peaking at us as though we were going to run out without paying! When I got home I immediately had my credit card refunded and have never gone back!!! I then looked online and found out that there have been lots of people that have had racist experiences! BTW we spent over $350 for terrible service and gave a hefty tip to the waiter! I wish my daughter had spoke up sooner about the waiter because I would've gave him a piece of my mind and zero dollars! read more

Wish I'd checked Yelp before going. Incredibly disappointed -- Benihana is a shell of its former high quality self. Right from the start, our table chef was clearly out of his depth. After a lame display of showmanship (fumbling the spatula and fork repeatedly) he proceeded to cook each person's dish SEPARATELY! The first two people were done with their entrée before the last got hers served. My entrée of teriyaki steak (I requested it med-rare) was overcooked to the point that I flagged down the manager who then had a replacement dish quickly prepared for me in the kitchen. This time the meat was cooked properly but it was served with a watery sauce that barely tasted of teriyaki. Perhaps they should spend more time training the staff than worrying about the dress code which is stressed on their website and with a placard at reception stand. As our dinner progressed we all looked with envy at other tables with better chefs who were putting on more typical big-flame displays AND competently cooking everything with good pacing. To having to ask for salads that was part of a meal, wayyy undercooked scallops, over charged for steak fried rice, we got our appetizer at the END of our meal, never got soy with sushi, food was over peppered but under seasoned, this may be the last Benihana I will visit and I've been to several in the U.S. and overseas. I invited my family and friends (some were first-timers) expecting the usual excitement from the chef, but they didn't do ANY of the typical tricks. To top it off, the first drink I ordered never came, and the next order everyone else got their drinks before me and I had to wait an unreasonable amount of time. We love going to Japanese hibachi grills and Benihana is a classic. The chefs put on a good show and the food is nice. I recommend the chicken hibachi with fried rice, but I do wish you got more than the tiny cup of rice. The crunchy spicy tuna roll (I believe that's the name) is amazing! It has great flavor complimented by jalapeños and crunchy rice. Green tea ice cream is a nice treat afterwards. Would not recommend the scallops, they didn't taste too fresh; but everything else was good! read more

We visited this location on February 20th. This was the first time visiting this location as I usually go to the one in Bethesda. We arrived and were seated fairly quickly for our reservation. Service was kinda slow as it looked like they were short staffed, but we didn't mind too much. The food was ok. My only complaint was the chicken was dry. Like so dry I could barely eat it. I know all about consuming undercooked chicken, but the solution is not to overcook it either. Now that indoor dining is allowed in Montgomery County, I will be going back there. read more

Our soup was brought at the end of our meal rather than the beginning. Our food also had no flavor. In summary, poor service, poor quality of food, and small portions. Not too far from the Airport so I decided to stop by for dinner, the fried rice with shrimp was very delicious and well cooked and prepared, the establishment was really nice from the interior to the exterior, the employees are very nice and very tentative and work real hard, unfortunately I did not try the sushi here but hopefully next time I will. read more

I've dined here multiple times over the years, and I can say the quality has dropped quite a bit. What used to be a nice hibachi grill now offers laughable customer service and long wait times. I arrived on time for a 6:30 reservation on a Monday and was told it would be an additional 10 minute wait. I was also told the coupon they emailed me would not be accepted because they only accept printed coupons (why bother emailing them, then?) After waiting another 30 minutes, we approached the hostess to ask when the table would be ready. The hostess seemed to have forgotten about us and told us to wait another 10 minutes. We inquired about the long wait, but the hostess got annoyed and said they were very busy (despite the numerous staff sitting at empty tables scrolling through their phones). We declined waiting further and said we would dine elsewhere. The hostess didn't seem to care and said we should have canceled our reservation (that had now long passed) if we weren't going to eat there. We just laughed and left. For such an overpriced restaurant, you'd think they could at least get a semi-functional reservation system working but then again customer satisfaction no longer seems to be their priority. Save yourself the hassle and go to one of the (much better) hibachi grills in the area. read more

Went last night with my family to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Wow wow wow! Completely exceeded my expectations! I suppose the other reservation canceled because it was just the 5 of us at the table which made it that much more special. Oko, our server, did a marvelous job despite being busy and Anthony, our chef, was absolutely amazing. Wonderful show, excellent food. I got the shrimp, my family got steak, chicken, and scallops, everything was cooked perfectly. The rice, soup, salad, and sauces were excellent, there was absolutely nothing else we needed. Came with a large group after a birthday party and they were surprisingly able to take us on short notice on a Sunday night and got seated within 15 minutes of arriving. Wasn't too busy which was nice since Hibachi places can get loud. Me and my girlfriend ordered two orders of the Filet and Chicken but at first the waitress misunderstood and though we were sharing one order. At first we only received one of everything but we were eventually able to clarify with her. The only problem was that despite the waitress telling the hibachi chef of the mistake, we only received half portions of certain things (mainly the steak and chicken). By the time we realized what happened, it was a little late and we didn't want to hold anything up because we wanted to head home soon. The food itself was ok, pretty standard for hibachi places. Some of the stuff could have been seasoned a lot more but it did the job. Place is expensive like all the other ones so definitely keep that in mind when ordering. Huge disappointment! My teenage daughter wanted the hibachi experience for her birthday and all of the local spots wouldn't take a reservation for our family of five, so I made a 6:30 reservation here. What we learned the hard way is that the reservation didn't mean anything. Despite a lot of open tables, they wouldn't seat us until there was a party of three to fills complete table. It was almost 7 when we were seated. Or that big a deal, but it was sign of what was to come. The entire staff (none of whom were Asian in a Japanese restaurant?) was very young and inexperienced. Our table chef had no personality, did absolutely nothing fun or exciting, and had almost no knife skill at all!! He only cooked in front of us and banged his knives on the edge of the grill occasionally. No showmanship at all which is the whole reason you go to a hibachi restaurant.(!!). My son and I both ordered one of the most expensive dishes on the menu (surf and turf with dessert). He completely forgot both the surf part of our meals and started packing up his cart to leave. We had to calm him back to the table to cook our scallops, which were then served to us at the same time that they brought out a birthday dessert for my daughter!! Then, our waiter forgot the two desserts that my son and I were supposed to get with our meals. Overall, just a really horrible experience and cost is $450 with only one beer among us!! Fun experience with a group. I made a reservation and we seated quickly with a couple that was very friendly. Our food was overall very good. One persons steak was overcooked... suppose to be medium rare and it was medium well. We tried interacting with the chef and she was unable to communicate with us so that was slightly frustrating but she was still very nice. Our waitress wasn't around often.. needed some drink refills, etc but she seemed overly busy. We will come again since we enjoy the overall experience. read more

We were very disappointed with the service all around. The food itself was good overall, but quite pricey when you came for the experience. We had reservations, but didn't get seated until 30 minutes later. At the table another 15 minutes until drink orders were taken and delayed arrival with them. The bar itself was messy and dirty glasses all over. The chef arrived and seemed more focused on trying to cook and be done with the table. Extremely little interaction or conversations with the table. Even with our two kids 4 and 6 that love this - barely any engagement with them. Benihana never fails me when it comes to the food and service! This was my first time at the Dulles location and will say one of my more memorable experiences. The host had a warm greeting and was prompt with seating (I really wish I remembered her name but she was very kind). My server was Josh who was attentive, friendly and had a sense of humor especially being late in the evening. He introduced the Chef Rufino who gave an amazing presentation and must have known I was hungry because he was also quick. The food taste amazing and great portions. This was such a poor experience that I do not even want to give the restaurant one star. We took my five year old son for his birthday. It was noted in the 6pm reservation, and the hostess verbally confirmed when we arrived. We were seated, and dinner did not start until 6:40pm. Our chef was pretty poor with her cooking skills. Dropping cooking utensils, cooking foods out of order and serving the wrong items to people. My sons order was forgotten! Our meal did not end until just before 8pm, which at that point my son wanted to leave. We thought maybe there would be an acknowledgement of his birthday since the staff had sung to the table next to us earlier in the night. There was none. We asked for several things throughout the meal (crayons, waters, the kids cup advertised on the kids menu) and all were forgotten. We finally got a bill for $190 for three adults and one child, without alcohol. This was incredibly expensive and overpriced, and the entire experience was incredibly disappointing. Nothing about this visit was an enjoyable birthday experience. I wish we could be refunded and will not be going back, and will not be recommending this location. read more
