The sashimi was fresh and beautifully presented! I liked the different types you could try and it came with a few pieces each. My favorite was their chef specialty roll which you have the option to make the tuna spicy. They originally gave us the wrong regular tuna roll which ended up being someone else's order... the fried squid was also a more darker brown than it should've been. The udon noodles were pretty good and your standard udon you'd get at any other place. There was a good amount of seating and the servers were nice! The udon takes the cake of the meal. The quality of then fish was good as well, but I don't think there was truffle or caviar in the hand rolls like it said in the description. Not sure if the roe/masago was in the spicy was in hand roll either. There wasn't an egg in the curry udon even though the description said there would be and there was only one fish cake slice. The food itself was delicious but I'm not sure for the price... the staff was really nice and the restaurant space was bright and an upgrade from before. read more

Tried this new place in the Gum Springs Village Center. The inside is bright and clean. We went for lunch during a weekday, and we were the only ones there. The fish was fresh and the rolls/hand rolls were tasty. Looking forward coming back to try some other dishes. Like their ramen and curry udon. If you are in South Riding and looking for a good Japanese Ramen place that also has sushi, then this is a great place to make your way towards. It is newly decorated and is clean and wide open and feels very welcoming. The owners and staff are very attentive and make sure that you have whatever you need. The food is clean and well made. This is not Nakazawa sushi... and if you want that quality, you'll have to pay that price. It is fresh and good neighborhood sushi place. The Ramen broth is delicious and has great flavors. I would recommend getting the Donkatsu Ramen and ask for the spicy sauce on the side... you only need 2-3 drops max. But it will add the perfect spice that hits the back of your palate flavor. I visited Ichigo sushi for an early dinner on a Saturday. The Food: I tried their Sushi Combo B which came with six pieces of sushi and six rolls. I also ordered an order of spicy tuna rolls, which was not on the menu (they only had spicy tuna hand rolls) which was just tuna rolls with spicy option (which they charged extra). I have to say, their rolls were decent. The rice was slightly sweeter than I would have preferred but the overall flavor was good. Sushi, however was underwhelming. The fish was long but thin and the ratio of the fish to rice was average. Again, the rice was too sweet for my liking and for some reason, was more noticeable in the sushi. The Service: The order came out very fast and the service was good and waitress, attentive. No complaints there. The Decor: The restaurant used to be Shiro Sushi. Ichigo remodeled the place and removed the sushi bar on the long side of the restaurant to the back to provide more seating space. The decoration feels "somewhat" Japanese but more modern (not overly traditional). Would I go back? I would definitely go back to try their ramen. Most likely will get some ramen and rolls, just not sushi. If their ramen is good, I would definitely go there for ramen and rolls regularly. For sushi, however, I would actually recommend Matsu Sushi. read more

this place just rebranded and reopened - the old restaurant was also a sushi shop but with hibachi tables. there is no lunch menu here anymore just FYI. I came here with my friend for lunch on a weekday. it was incredibly slow as we were the only people. our waitress was friendly and prompt. we ordered the ikakarage, roll combo of salmon avocado, kimchi ramen and one order of the masago. they brought out two miso soups for us as included in the price. the miso soup was....very interesting. it was oddly sweet almost & there were tea leaves inside (we believe they were tea leaves, wasn't 100% sure). it did not taste like the miso soup you would typically get at a sushi restaurant. our masago came out and that wasn't bad. the masago wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I may have dropped some masago on my salmon avocado rolls to brighten them up. the ikakarage was so oily and the batter they used was awful. it left this oily film on our tongues and my friend said the only thing redeeming about the dish was the sauce. our entrees came out - his the kimchi ramen & mine the almon avocado. he though his ramen ok, liking the broth a little more than the noodles itself, but did not like the orange peels inside the broth. my salmon avocado was just as it seemed. I wasn't blown away by it & my friend said he felt like it tasted like bananas for some reason. all in all, this is newly renovated restaurant. would I come back? probably not, but I know everyone's taste are different. I'd try this spot as the owners did appear from time to time. they seemed positively trying their best and were very welcoming of their guests. read more

Ambience: The decor of this restaurant feels like a typical Chinese takeout spot, white square tile flooring with flourecent lighting, with the cashier smacked next to the area that looked like Chinese buffet (but have repurposed for the chef to prepare sushi) Food & Service: Food is good with friendly service, on par with other Japanese restaurants but nothing stands out. Had no idea this had replaced the old Shiro, which we did not love. After our first order, it's a marked improvement. We are picky about our sushi, but will be coming here again. It's not as good as Passion Fin and definitely not Ariake (our favorite), but it's better than everything else I've tried locally. And it's close! All fish was clearly fresh. Salmon and eel avocado were quite good. Spicy tuna was good enough to order again. Tuna was not my favorite, but it rarely is. Started with those basics. Will branch out in the future. The paying prior to eating confused me and I wish they had given me the check after eating too--I'd have tipped more! The only issue is actually getting to the place as it's rather out of the way. I have visited Ichigo Sushi twice now with my two daughters, both times we left in a happy mood. If you're in the mood for some Japanese-style cuisine there's a decent selection here, there's something for everyone. We have tried several types of sushi, and ramen. They were tasty and pretty well portioned, a decent value in my opinion. The bonito flake garnishing the Takoyaki we ordered as an appetizer was literally dancing and waving around, never thought fish shavings could do that so it was pretty cool to see. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. The ambiance is relaxed. I'm very happy that we have a good sushi restaurant nearby as my family usually gets a craving for it. I'm already looking forward to bringing my wife along on our next visit. read more
