Came in for lunch with a few coworkers, and we had a really good experience. They were kind enough to wait for our friend who was running late, which we really appreciated. Be careful who your chef is. Mine last night was Jose. Everyone ordered their steak medium but I ordered mine rare. He cooked them all together and distributed them at the same time. They do have great shrimp here. I also enjoyed the Blue Banzai margaria which was delicious and my picky eater got the same but a mocktail. Finished it. The show is always fun and funny. The chef's personality is great and his cooking skill was excellent. Perfect Med Rare steak. Everything was cut well and obviously served hot. My wife had fillet and chicken and my daughter had the fillet and lobster tail. There was some sharing going on which works out perfectly. I recommend getting an early reservation because all these get really busy and it takes a while with all the orders and people to cook for. We sat at 3:30 and left at 6 to give you an idea. Service was exceptional from all people except for the chef cooking the food at our table. Didn't catch his name, but we got sat at the table in the back right corner of the room at about 5:45pm last night, January 6th. After asking my boyfriend if I spoke Spanish and getting "no" for a response, he proceeded to tell my boyfriend (in Spanish) "if you want to get with someone who speaks Spanish, give me your number and I'll hook you up with my cousin." Directly in front of me, and the other people at our table who also spoke Spanish. I had no idea, so I kept politely smiling and saying "thank you" to him after every course was served. It's been a long time since someone has made me feel that worthless. To be so confidently misogynistic that you would feel safe enough to 1) say something like that to my significant other, and 2) not expect him to tell me what you said, is absolutely insane. I still tipped 20% because I knew the tip would not just be going to him. Absolutely disgusting that a chef can feel comfortable degrading women and move on with the rest of his shift like nothing happened. I'm not sure what they're doing differently, but the food has really gone downhill in the past year or so. Benihana's Wheeling location has been a family favorite for years- Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, you name it- and just here last night for a birthday. But the last 3 or 4 times the food has been overly salty and the filet mignon nearly inedible. It used to be so mouthwatering juicy, even the leftovers reheated well- now, it's tough, chewy and lacks flavor (unless you consider salt a flavor). They even add butter to it when cooking now (so they know it's not the same LOL) a good steak should not need butter :( The only positive here was the show put on by the chef. We went to Tsukasa a few miles north in Vernon Hills and their filet was infinitely better, the way one SHOULD be. I guess we'll be going there from now on. We decided to come in to use our $30 birthday reward. It is restricted to Monday-Thursday dinners and must print certificates. The place had a few groups on 2 tables when we arrived and we were the 3rd table to be set up. After us there were 3 more tables of customers, decent amount for a Monday evening. We ordered the scallops, shrimp, steak and seafood diablo- noodle dish with seafood. There was a decent amount of food, got the soup, salad, shrimp appetizers- a few pieces of small shrimp and then our main courses. The steak was done decently, not overcooked. The scallops and shrimp were definitely overcooked and could have been removed from the tabletop earlier especially for the size of them. The scallops definitely shrunk because they were overcooked. We got the regular white rice instead of the fried rice. Since we were celebrating birthdays we also got the ice cream for dessert, they come out and sing to you in English and Japanese. And we also got a table picture a nice keepsake for the evening. All in all a decent experience at Benihana, definitely on the pricier end so worth the birthday coupon. read more

I eat here only because my 3 grandkids like going here for birthdays. Each time I've gone this year, the quantity and quality of the food has gone down while the prices have gone up. Yesterday, the hibachi steak was fatty and tough and more expensive. There used to be two options for dinner, so you could get a cheaper entree with fewer courses, but now there is only one option. The wait staff really missed out on a ton of alcohol sales as they sat there with empty drinks trying to flag down any available servers. At $9-$15 a drink and 4 of them drinking rapid fire they could have easily made about 60 bucks in alcohol alone. There is a language barrier between the wait staff and the customers. I think they seat you according to when you arrive in (chef allocation at a cooking station. We were joined by another couple for our dinner. The fun is being able to chat with someone else I'd say. We had young children and the kids never got too close to the hot cooktop. Our family has four dishes: hibachi shrimp, hibachi steak (ny strip), hibachi scallops, and the diablo seafood noodles). My kiddies experienced it for the first time and they had a good time with the performance. Especially when the onions were lit on fire as a volcano. I didn't realize it before but everyone gets a shrimp appetizer portion, so I definitely didn't need to get a shrimp entree. I should have told the cook to take my scallops off the griddle as I thought it was overcooked. Chef sliced off the tip of fat on the NY Strip, which is actually something that we enjoy eating. Just wish we could have discussed a little more on the cooking prep before he took stuff off that we liked. The staff was friendly and I'd say it was a solid experience. For those that are unfamiliar, a hibachi dinner experience involves a huge grill attached to your table where the chef makes the food right in front of you. Benihana provides 5 course meals with onion soup, benihana salad, shrimp appetizers, hibachi vegetables, and steamed rice and your choice of meat or seafood. It a show and cool presentation with some cool tricks from the Chef as you eat and have dinner. The food was fresh, hot off the grill and tasty. I enjoyed every bite! We had a most delightful and excellent teppanyaki dinner here.  Besides the delicious food, it was most heartening to see a full, buoyant, and festive dining room by the time we left on this pleasant summer evening.  Good times have finally and deservedly returned here post Covid.  We had a full table of 4 pairs of cordial strangers, and it's been a long time since we've sat at a full teppanyaki dinner table, not counting cruise ship dinners anyway. For dinner, the wife had their 5 course hibachi scallops dinner ($31.40) and I had their 5 course teriyaki steak dinner ($30.50).  They were both excellent, both good values, and delicious with white rice which we usually opt for instead of chicken fried rice.  This was also the first time either of us ordered the scallops dinner, and she was treated to a very generous serving of 10 good sized scallops, nice deal!  I also really enjoyed my teriyaki steak which was medium rare as requested and grilled in a mildly sweet teriyaki sauce.  Thank you Benihana for a wonderful dinner, and we'll surely be back sooner or later! read more

When you think of Benihana you think of the chefs cooking in front of you, and playing tricks and creating fire actions while cooking your food. However, their food also speaks to their creativity! When you arrive to Benihana, there are tons of parking spots outside. Once you enter, you'll be greeted by the hostess. Note: You will need your entire party to arrive to be seated. If you have a smaller parter, there is a good chance you will be seated at the table with guests you don't know. But don't worry, everyone is generally there to experience what you're there to experience as well. :) The server walks around and takes drink orders, and then your food order. My husband and I decided to try the Spicy Lotus Tempura Roll - which was DELICIOUS, as our appetizer. Shortly after, we received our miso soup, and salad of which were included with the entree. After that, the chef comes and confirms your order with you before starting the cooking experience. To end the meal, we were offered tea and ice cream. If you've never been to Benihana before OR if you are coming with kids, this is a great place! It is loads of fun and kids love it. I am however, writing as someone who's been here or different locations of Benihana numerous times. At this point it is boring to me as the routine never changes and the skill set of the cook is deteriorating. 1. Reservation - recommended 2. Food - 3 stars at best We got the steak as well as the seafood medley and I wasn't impressed. 3. Drinks - good They don't have a complicated mixed drinks but rather simple things like sangria, mojito etc and they are delicious. Just don't expect a cocktail lounge quality drinks here. 4. Ambience - loud, you'll have to wait for other people you don't know to come on time, otherwise the service won't start till the table is full, which is a pain in the butt. What I hate the most is the SMELL. It is open fire grill so your clothes, your hair and everything will smell of oil/grease/food, so you must wash everything and shower upon arrival at home. Also, you can't have any serious conversation while here, so not recommended for business dinners, anything you don't want strangers to hear should not be discussed here. This place is anything but intimate. Be mindful of your meeting purpose when deciding your place to eat. Benihana is a very communal experience. read more
