I ordered pho beef, vermcille with bbq meat and a few egg rolls. Idk what the reason was but gosh my pho had like no flavor. In addition i recieved only one jalapeno with the veggie bag. I was kinda skeptical because this place is not located in a predominant Asian community. But after giving it a try it's legit pho. The pho is simple but that is what makes this place good. You won't get options like tendon nor tripe nor other authentic pungent dishes like bun bo hue. But the simple beef slice pho or brisket or meat ball works fine. Broth is clear, clean and flavorful. Compared to most Vietnamese restaurants the meat quantity and noodles quantity is less here. But I guess you can't have everything. The pho price is slightly over priced for pho standards. The noticeable overpriced items are the non pho dishes. The spring rolls or rice dishes are much over priced compared to most Vietnamese places. $4-5 dollars more than most Vietnamese places charge for good quality. But due to the area and clientele i can see why. What also impressed me was the Vietnamese ice coffee. it's legit here. I make pho at home and viet coffee at home. It's hard to get Viet food wrong, but when it's good it's good. Solid place, clean establishment and always quick friendly service. I like how the waitress/hostess doesn't try to chit chat. Came here to have bahn mis in the evening time, unfortunately they only serve them for lunch. We decided to stay and try the pho, fried rice, and the fried green beans(they have a 1/2 order of you request it). we started out with the pork spring rolls, they come out with a peanut sauce on the side, although really good , we really liked dipping it in the green bean sauce... lol! The pho was so delicious, lots of flavor, plenty of shrimp in my pho, and the noodles were just right. The fried rice was perfect, a different type of flavor, I would recommend you give it a try. And in the end we had dessert as well, like a fried banana with ice cream, amazing, looked like a huge egg roll, but it was the banana. I have to say, it is small place that gets really busy. The food here is ok. Not sure how else to describe it. I ordered the Shrimp and Pork Egg Rolls, String Bean Tempura, Garlic Chicken Wings, Panko Breaded Shrimp, and the Filet and Potatoes. First off the waitress forgot to put in the Shrimp so we never got it nor was charged for it. Oh well. The Egg Rolls were good but I like to eat them wrapped in the lettuce. Unfortunately the 2 pieces of lettuce wilted underneath the Spring Rolls so it made it difficult to eat. The String Beans were good and crispy. Probably the highlight of the meal. The chicken wings were uneventful and they were some of the tiniest wings I had ever seen. Most of the flavor sat on the plate. Last but not least, the Filet and Potatoes. The pieces of filet were cut into bite sized pieces. The potatoes were cut a little bigger than a French fry and the onions were on the raw side and plentiful. My first piece of the filet was cold but my husband insisted that the rest was warm and I had the only cold piece. The flavor seemed to be salt and pepper? There was not much flavor but my husband enjoyed it. Service was not good for a Wednesday afternoon around 2:00. The secret's out, I guess: I found one of the best Banh Mi's I've eaten, located less than 5 min driving distance from home. I endured 3 chronological methods--dine-in, walk-in for to-go, and phone order pick-up--to try 3 different proteins (ouch, that's a lot of hyphens, Fia). Result? Uhh, please read on =P... At 1st encounter--oh wait, I mean 2x--I think it's just me unluckily stepping foot at this very clandestine hole-in-the-corner that adjacently shares TJ Maxx, Dollar Tree, & 2 pet-care facilities in 1 strip mall. One was during Monday--gosh, what's up w/ me going on Monday closures x/--and another was at 12ish pm, when I discovered that a woman RIGHT BEFORE ME ordered the last Banh Mi, or technically the last baguette, available! Keep in mind this was over an hour post-opening =\, & so I'm thinking, "No wonder my friend raved about the Banh Mi..." Still I was headstrong to get my sandwich, & so on another lunch weekday I decided to sit myself in a very narrow, 1-roomed, grayish-blue dimmed setting, noting that at 11-something on a non-Friday it was already getting packed, & most of the time 1 waitress was present to serve 20+ guests at Benley. The Banh Mi Bo Nuong/Sliced Beef ($4.95) caught my eyes the most, w/ [a costly] Iced Vietnamese Coffee ($3.50) to "typically drink with." Although it costs a buck or 2 more than other Vietnamese sandwiches (e.g. Banh Mi Che Cali), this 10-incher (if not cut in 1/2...) was more than incredibly filling. Benley uses all the essential superb-quality, flavorful Vietnamese ingredients--very pickled, julienned daikon; thinly sliced cucumbers; julienned carrots; and generously sprinkled CILANTRO--to construct a way-more-than satisfying lunch. The beef was juicy & subliminally marinated without being too saucy (which I'm not so fond of) and the fresh baguette had that wonderfully delicate crunch & softness, outside and in--respectively--that it only left off w/ tolerable amounts of crumbs that can be easily swept off w/ a paper napkin (& good thing those crumbs were on a plate, haha). Hmm, did I forget to say "filling?" The same descriptions--both quality & price--can be described in my other two subsequent tries. This place surprised me on where it was located at and what type of food it offer to attract people in coming here. Even though the name suggest a Vietnamese restaurant, Benley is an Asian fusion place with a reboot of French influences mixed into the cooking. The location is on a very sketchy plaza, but the interior of the place suggest a French bistro with very dim lighting to offer a low case atmosphere to get you relaxed to dine here. It was challenging to read off the menu only because it seemed like it was going for fine dining, but with Vietnamese cuisine as the centerpiece to draw people in. I can only fathom a thought of pho or vermicelli (thin rice noodle), spring rolls, and a few bo luc lac (marinated beef) as part of that dining experiences. So it was a little bit shock to me what had came out of that kitchen for the big surprise. I love the bahn mi with beef while my husband's favorite is the pho with rare steak. The only downside is that it is a little pricey. Also, the hours are strange. This place has been here for awhile so it has to be good (at least most of the time) because they certainly don't get a lot of foot traffic at its hidden location. Almost invisible from the street, at the end of a strip mall, we finally tried it & were pleasantly surprised. The first time it was a cold night and Chicken & Rice Porridge sounded warm & comforting. It was. The Garlic Chicken Wings were sticky & sweet with a breath of heat. The second time, a few days ago we ordered the Garlic Wings again and Chicken Curry. The chicken was generous & chunky. Thigh meat can be flavorful or gross, so I'm pleased to say it was the former. The halved, peeled potatoes stood out like hills in a curry chicken broth stream, cooked al dente. It also comes with a side of white rice. You can order off the Starter menu & be quite happy but the Entree & Pho sections offer tempting choices to try as well. It seems like one server waits on all the tables but so far that hasn't been a problem for us. It's a small, narrow space that stays full but we've been able to sit right away. This restaurant is located in the corner of a plaza. If you see TJ Maxx, you are in the right place. I did a random Yelp search before eating here, so I had no idea what to expect. Upon entering the place, I realized that it is a little different than your typical Vietnamese place. The space itself was small and intimate. It was really clean and decorated well with old black and white photographs hanging on the wall. I came on a Monday night and it was pretty empty. Kelli, our server, told us that Monday nights are usually very busy because they are closed on Sundays. Kelli offered great customer service and was always asking us if we needed anything. The menu offered a lot of other items besides pho. It is primarily in English with the Vietnamese names underneath, so it is a good place to take people who are not familiar with Vietnamese food. We ordered the lemongrass pork spring rolls, beef vermicelli, and Imperial crepe. I thought the spring rolls were tasty, but did not have the usual veggies and ingredients that spring rolls typically have. My vermicelli was also delicious and consisted of an abundant amount of beef slices, which was nice. The fish sauce was not too pungent so that's good if you don't like the fishy smell. The Imperial crepe was large and the outside offered a good crisp. I hear their banh mi is really good so I will definitely try it the next time I go. Overall, this is a good solid place to introduce to your friends or family who are not familiar with Vietnamese cuisine. LOVE this little hole in the wall. The location is unsuspecting, but the food packs a huge punch. I like coming for dinner since it's intimate (good date night spot) but their lunch deals are too good to resist. They offer 1/2 pho or bun and 1/2 bahn mi, so you can get the best of both worlds. Side note - their sandwich bread is realllly good. My all time favorite thing is their spicy green beans, which I could eat all day long and never grow tired. The soup came out piping hot. It was light and mild style but with enough depth. The after taste was clean and pleasant (Did the clean interior and highish price lead me to believe the taste is clean? Fooled my mind into thinking this is gourmet? The menu did not have a vegetarian option but after asking our waitress she said they could do tofu and veggies with beef or chick broth - I chose beef of course! It came out with cauliflower, broccoli, baby bok choy, shallots, scallions and a good amount of tofu. For the main courses, we got the bun with charbroiled pork and the pho with rare steak. The meat was awesome. Great spot for pho. I haven't tried any rice dishes. The owner does a custom order for me. Veggie pho with beef broth. Not in the menu that way but she'll whip it up for me. Great service. Good pho.
