The soup came out piping hot. It was light and mild style but with enough depth. The after taste was clean and pleasant (Did the clean interior and highish price lead me to believe the taste is clean? Fooled my mind into thinking this is gourmet? I, I don't think so..., it was very decent, good to the last drop). One thing's for sure, you add to this soup Hoisin Sauce and that red/hot sauce, the taste exploded, great Pho satisfaction! Made me want another bowl (But I had all the egg rolls by myself so I controlled myself, if you call eating two dishes in one sitting control. The Egg Rolls were great by the way; nice fat ones with crispy exterior, very tasty, very home made looking). They may be using very nice Hoisin sauce (Koon Chun's? or more gourmet? I definitely prefer Koon Chun's over Lee's brand any day). I should have asked but didn't, waitress came by just as I was about to snap a shot of picture (awkward this, and rare for me, darn I even had my back to the service area). I grinned like a kid caught with a bunch of cookies in my hand, she smiled, asked if all was well and left me alone (I went today after work and was a bit exhausted, I probably looked mentally challenged, barely talking in complete sentences. Only sometimes I think this is funny, as I want to be seen as somewhat intelligent at stranger's places like restaurants, I will up the vitamin intake). Half way through the soup I often add Hoisin & hot sauces (Because that's how I used to eat Pho for years and I want that nostalgic taste. Now, going after the natural high, mostly I'm curious how the soup tastes on its own). When you add the condiments (sauces), the taste is not the same for all Pho. I used to think adding sauces to water-like soup with very little depth and flavor will give me Pho satisfaction. I quickly learned it is not so, the soup has to be decent. Go ahead, add sauces to a bowl of hot water and tell me that it's good (Of course this is assuming you're not lost in the woods for days when trying this, anything can taste good then probably). Finishing up quickly; the beef slices were decent (average) and noodles were ok (Thin and strong but on the soft side. Personal preference is very firm). Vegan pho was balanced and delicious. Portion-to-price was fair to generous, and the waitress was quick. Plus they put lots of veggies in it - Bok Choi, carrots, cabbage, and tofu (optional). Rice noodles had nice texture too. Let me recommend the veggie (vegan) spring rolls as an app. You can practically drink the peanut sauce. Appearance on the outside could use some work, but the inside is clean and comfortable. Ordered the brisket pho and chicken curry. Both were delicious. Authentic taste, every bite was savory. I have to admit it was fairly pricey in comparison to other pho Ive tried in Colorado but maybe $9.49 is average for California. We ordered the lemongrass pork egg rolls as an appetizer and they were wonderful! 4 large rice paper wrapped rolls and a mild peanut sauce. The menu did not have a vegetarian option but after asking our waitress she said they could do tofu and veggies with beef or chick broth - I chose beef of course! It came out with cauliflower, broccoli, baby bok choy, shallots, scallions and a good amount of tofu. My only complaint would be the little plate of toppings you get, a few leaves of mint, 1 single jalapeno a small handful of bean sprouts and a spoonful of siracha and hoison sauce. *there is only one size pho* *ask for off menu vegetarian options* All in all its worth 5 stars for flavor and creativity. For the main courses, we got the bun with charbroiled pork and the pho with rare steak. The meat was awesome. Yay, they're back open for take out! This is my favorite pho place. Their egg rolls and spicy green beans are so good. The meatball pho is my favorite, but I've enjoyed the vegan pho as well. Their prices are very reasonable considering the quality and portions. I always have leftovers. I'm surprised to see any negative comments on here about their service. Updating my review to say I now have people harassing me and texting my cell phone about this. Crazy much? Also suggesting I am bad mother for letting my daughter eat pho and that I should go to Chuck E cheese? Obviously these are friends of the waitress. Good job standing up for your friend, but every single thing in my review is unfortunately true. Just had the worse experience here that left me in tears. Yes, I cried over how horrible I was treated. I was there with my 19 month old & two friends with their toddlers. The blonde waitress seemed friendly at first. She brought us waters for the kids and ourselves and then we were forgotten about. She came back when we smiled at her that we were ready. We asked about kid options and she said all the kids get their chicken porridge soup. Kids love it. I ordered that for my daughter thinking it would be great if this is the hot item for kids. Well hot it sure was. The waitress placed the scalding hot soup directly in front of her where she could grab and fling. Luckily I was the only one who got burned from where it flew off the spoon she grabbed. This soup is no joke. I still have a welt on my thumb from being burned. I am not sure why this was even suggested as something for babies to eat. It was also bland mush. Not at all yummy. My baby wouldn't even try it. After a while my friend's food came. Eggs rolls and vermicelli. Two bowls of vermicelli and one dish of egg rolls. I had ordered shrimp pho. My friends are about half way through their meal when my food still hasn't arrived so I walked to the front where our waitress was having a conversation with someone. I politely asked her if my food was still coming and she said "yeah it's sitting right there, I just haven't gotten to it." I go sit back down and a little while later she comes up and says "that actually wasn't your food. Do you still want it?" At this point I am frustrated. My child hasn't eaten anything because she's not a fan of scalding hot mush, I haven't eaten a single thing and my friends are finished with their food, she doesn't say SORRY when mentioning my food hasn't even been made. She's just giving me attitude like I am to blame for something. I told her I no longer wanted the food and then started to cry. She then walks to the back and YELLS to the cook "She doesn't even want it anymore! Don't bother!" I am sure any mom reading this can relate. I am tired. I know I will now not have had anything to eat before nursing my baby to sleep for her nap. I don't know when my next chance will be to eat. You get it I am sure. My friends were quite horrified by her behavior, and while I cried, stood up for me. My friend mentioned me getting burned off hot soup for my baby and the waitress said "well you have kids everywhere" in an ugly tone. She never once apologized. She came back and asked me if I wanted to split the bill with my friends. My friend told her I would not be paying for anything. Then the owner came out and tried to make nice, but really was not understanding the situation at all. She was nice but just didn't get it. She claimed I never got my food because they are so busy in the kitchen. Benley was not at all crowded or busy. She said she took my child's soup off the tab. Oh wow, how generous of you. I have recently had to cut dairy out of my diet so I found this awesome bakery that had a bunch of dairy free stuff. I wanted to go check it out last Saturday and I figured I should get lunch while I was out. I yelped to see what was around and found Benley was located right next door. Since my trip to Vietnam last year I've had a new found appreciation for Vietnamese food so was excited after reading all the positive reviews. Went in around noon and there were people dining but not ultra busy. We were seated and ordered the spring rolls, rare beef pho, a Vietnamese "ham" banh mi, and a vermicelli bowl with pork AND egg roll. The spring rolls were good but not spectacular. I didn't have the pho but my father in law seemed to enjoy it. The husband (who LOVES banh mi) really enjoyed his. They only serve them until 4pm or until they run out. I ordered the vermicelli bowl and had high expectations as it was my favorite dish from Vietnam. It totally delivered! Great mix of herbs and veggies and nuts. They have the amazing fish sauce (AKA Vietnamese ketchup) and the egg roll was soooooo good! The pork was ooookay. Could have been better. Anyway, I'm so happy to have found this place. It's now my regular Vietnamese place. It's so unassuming too as it's tucked away in this sad little strip mall. Don't let appearances fool you. This place is legit! I was recommended to try this place by the staff at Twice Baked Gluten Free Bakery right next door. Since I'm highly sensitive to gluten, there's not many places I can go to eat safely. I have now been to Benley many times over the past year and have never had any issues. One of the biggest issues I have with other restaurants is that even if they say the dish has no gluten, I get sick from cross contamination. With Benley, I've never had that issue. It is tucked away in a strip mall. I would have never known it was there even though I go to the Taco Bell across the street frequently (yeah, yeah, I know!). I went there for a coworker's birthday for lunch. First off, the inside is beautiful. It's small but nice! Second, my coworkers had arrived earlier and had started ordering so I had a little bit of time to order. It was what we were looking for- perfect for a date, great background music, quaint yet completely packed. There aren't more than 10 tables in the narrow space with white walls, one of which portrayed three blown up photos of Vietnamese scenes. As for the food, it was really good. We had the spring rolls with the pork that was recommended by others and it did not disappoint. We both had the pho with beef. It was good but not excellent. I added some spices to it as it was a little bland and it definitely wasn't piping hot as someone mentioned in another review. I really enjoyed my lunch here. The service was very friendly. The beautiful server was so friendly and nice. She really went up and above the call of duty. We ordered pankco breaded shrimp which needed a lil salt. Keep in mind, I don't even cook with salt. And I think it needed it! Egg rolls were taste, however not authentic. Spring rolls were interesting and breaded deep fried green beens. This restuarant is cute. Its more like fusion than a flavor of viet cuisine. The prices were also quite high that what I normally get but this was in the heart of Los Alamitos. I think if you like ethnic food with an american flair, this is the place for you. My lunch friend loved this place. And she was terrified to try new foods. I however love true flavors of Viet food. I love fish sauce and the unusually foods we don't find at the standard american grocery store. I wish them continued success. Looking for some pho led us to Beneley. The bad first: Tables were sticky, drinks have watery ice which waters down your can of soda and the chopsticks just sit in a can that anyone before you can touch. Also, on our first trip we ordered a Panna cotta which happens to be my weak spot. Sadly, it came out a pool of panna. The server said they didn't set but she wasn't very apologetic, just plunked it down. Since she scurried off I decided to try it. The flavor was food just warm and runny. Here's the kicker: She CHARGED US FOR IT!!!! For melted panna cotta!!!!! The next time we went we asked if it had set. We were assured it had but it was still too soft for me. Again, good flavor but not the panna cotta of my dreams. The good: food is tasty. The pho is clean and the accompanying limes, etc are very fresh. They give Sirracha and hoisen so you can doctor up your soup. I get no meat so they fill my bowl witj cauliflower, carrots, onion and broccoli which i tjink is very nice of them. We always start with the lemongrass pork spring rolls. They have pickled veggies, noodles and good sauces. But I wish there was someone of the meat because it is delicious!! Upon entering I was unsure of what the place would be like. There are two servers and plenty of small tables. I ordered the chicken pho and my husband got rare steak. The sizes were plentiful and the taste was fresh. Also I have had pho many times before and this place for sure gives large portions of meat. The noodles were plentiful and most importantly the meatballs were to awesome. These aren't your typical meatballs, where the texture is crumbly when you bite into one. Instead it is smooth.
