This is a popular place in Ocean Shores for casual seafood fare. I had a couple problems with it though. I wanted beer battered fish & chips, and halibut is my favorite. At Bennett's they have both cod and halibut. Unfortunately for me they only batter their cod and if you want halibut you have to have panko crumbed. The person behind the counter where you order said they prep ahead and they couldn't put the batter on halibut. I also just wanted water as that's my favorite beverage. She told me I couldn't have a regular glass of water with ice. I had to buy it in a bottle with their name printed on the label. It felt like a way to wring yet more money out of their customers. I much prefer generosity to stinginess. It just put me off from the beginning. The cod was fine. But unlike most restaurants when you get fish & chips, there was no coleslaw. All that was on my plate was part of a limp lettuce leaf for a poor excuse of a garnish. We had 2 veggie wraps and a fish sandwich in our party as well. Everybody liked their food well enough. My daughter really liked her fish sandwich. I eat out a lot and Bennett's cutting corners and lack of generosity is unlike the vast majority of restaurants I've been to. I have no desire to return. My mother-in-law lives in Ocean Shores and had suggested the Thai place. Guess we'll go there next time. read more

And serving that off brand soda is nonsense and many people obviously agree because before you get to the counter to order there are 4 places exclaiming NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK! I hate to say it, but pretty disappointing. We had the Fish and Chips and Clam Chowder. Fish was overcooked, dry and somewhat bland. Beer batter would have been a lot better instead of panco. Clam chowder was definitely made in house but was was very bland. Even after adding salt and pepper it was still bland. Tarter sauce and cocktail sauce came in a container. Cocktail sauce was almost solid and was not dipable even after trying to stir it with my fork. Bathrooms were too small for number of customers. On the positive side, service was excellent and micro beer was refreshing. Would not return. read more

The food was good at this restaurant but it wasn't shocking or noteworthy. When you arrive at the restaurant you order at the counter and get a number for your food. The ambiance for this restaurant is fairly casual, we sat outside and the tables were fairly dirty and they were uneven rocking throughout our meal. While in Ocean Shores we asked some locals where to go for casual dinner. Three people mentioned Bennett's for the best fish & chips, which sounded great so we gave it a try. We arrived about 3:30 on a weekday and weren't hungry yet so went into the bar. It was packed with no tables available so we sat at the bar counter. The bartender was great! She was great at her job, making drinks, taking orders, keeping the counter clean all the while with humor. Our margaritas were great. When you first walk into the restaurant there is an area where you order the meal yourself from the menu provided. The meal is then delivered to your table. When we were ready to eat I started to get up to go order food, but the bartender offered to do it for us, which she isn't required to do as part of her duties. My friend and I shared a cup of clam chowder and an order of fish and chips, both of which were excellent. The fish was very fresh with light breading. All in all, a great late afternoon. read more

Worst clam chowder bread bowl I've ever had. It was completely flavorless and loaded with raw celery. The bits of clam were very rubbery. Cod and chips were okay. Would give them a pass if the prices weren't so high. At $76 for two people you just expect decent food. I've had much better chowder from a can. read more

Bennett's Fish Shack is the kind of local spot you hope never changes. The halibut and chips were hands-down the best I've ever had -- perfectly cooked, flaky, and fresh without being greasy. The crab melt with cranberry salad was outstanding too, a great balance of rich and bright flavors. Even the details were dialed in: the Seattle soda (root beer and diet cola) was the best soda I've had in a long time, and somehow even the ketchup stood out -- it honestly tasted like fresh tomatoes. You can tell this is a true local joint. There aren't a ton of people working, but everyone there is hustling -- cooking, cleaning, taking orders, keeping things moving. We were checked on to see how our food was, and one of the women even stopped to chat and offer additional recommendations, which made the experience feel personal and welcoming. A friend recommended this place to me and he was absolutely on point. I saw a few earlier reviews mentioning staffing issues, and maybe that was the case at some point -- but honestly, I don't care. Pass this place up. The Clam Chowder here is WTF and BS from a can. Very tasteless. I ended up leaving it because it was shear garbage. Looking around other costumers were leaving their food too. The Bay Shrimp Cocktail was meh. I lime a little hot sauce with both my clam chowder and shrimp cocktail. I asked one of the staff members for some Tabasco and he rudely said we don't carry it here. I ask for any other hot sauce and he reluctantly pointed to a corner. I went up to set some hot sauce and there was none. I looked at other tables and they had none either. The fish and chips are delicious as well as the chowder. We haven't hit any long lines here because we luxury to be able go on their off hours. We've been coming to Bennett's for years, at least 6 or more times a year when we visit the ocean from our home a couple hours away. In the past, my review would have been higher, at least 4 stars, but the service has gone down tremendously to where it's basically non-existent. The blatant rush, including the "step aside until you know what you'd like", from the counter gals is super off-putting. There wasn't even anybody behind us!! The food, just like in all of our visits in the past, is great but highly inconsistent. Warm fries, cold fish, warm burger cold fries, hot chowder, lukewarm chowder, giant oysters, pieces of oysters all served to our table at the same time! Crazy!! The gluten free options always keep us coming back, I mean, not many places offer a gluten free wrap! We have come to Bennett's for years and it's always good. All types of seafood to choose from. My favorite however is their applewood bacon cheeseburger. I drove past this placw for decades but heard their food was good from a griend so tried it. I'm happy I did. The prime rib melt was very good and so were the fries. The cod was decent. Overall, what looked like a tourist trap in Ocean Shores seemed popular with both locals and tourists. I had a salad instead of fries but they only offered Cesar's dressing. I came here at 12:30 and the line was pretty long. You place your order at the register and then seat yourself. I like how they hand out utensils and napkins in a little bucket. I ended up ordering the Best of the Best, which is a sampler that contains half a dungeness crab melt, a cranberry coast salad, and clam chowder. This was a perfect order for someone like me who wants to try a bit of everything and I was pretty excited. I enjoyed the salad, especially the touch of sesame seeds and sesame oil. The cranberries, cashew, and different cheeses also keep every bite interesting. This salad was above average for sure. The clam chowder was average. The chowder has some celery inside. I was mostly excited for the crab melt, and it did taste pretty good. However I felt like it could use some more flavor. I thought it'd be like a lobster roll but it pales in comparison to one. This is one of my new/old favorite places in OS. I was craving fish (which I never eat) and chips so we popped in here day 1. It was so good that hungover the next day, I wanted more. The service is fun, the cocktails are made with pride, and it's a clean restaurant. Farrah and Chelsea were amazing for us, but just seeing the teamwork and camaraderie, behind the scenes showed how well this business is being run. Loved it! I usually enjoy the meal at Bennett's Fish Shack. Ordered Cod and another order of clam strips, with additional coleslaw from home on-line. Arrived at the shack to pick up order and it was timely. The cod and clam strips were very tasty but would have been better with the fries. The coleslaw had too much vinegar but eatable and fresh. Ordered two items to go and whist waiting in my car I looked at the receipt. I was charged $15 for a tip. For a go order. Wow the manager said it is an auto tip they now add on. I got it removed but check your slips they don't tell you about this and still give you the option to manually tip on top of auto tip. This is so wrong Bennetts. read more

Some of the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The fish quality was fine, but holy cow was it BLAND!

I recently moved to OS. I asked for a grilled piece of fish and they made it come with fries and a salad with no dressing for $22. The piece of fish was so small I left feeling hungry still. They also make you pay for bottled water and don't offer tap water. I was very disappointed in the experience here, the prices are extremely high. I also came with two other people who had the same experience and also left disappointed. It's sad because it could be so nice if the prices and portion sizes were better. read more
