We had a birthday party for my wife at Bennett's in Rocklin last weekend and it was fantastic. There were 15 of us and we fit comfortably in the private room (it could seat several more than that). The prime rib was the best I've ever had. Our guests really enjoyed the short rib, salmon, and chicken entrees as well. The service was great. The experience was mediocre overall. Although we appreciated the gift card, the dim lighting was inconvenient, forcing patrons to use their phone flashlights to read the extensive menus. The food was just average, with stale bread accompanying my pasta. For dessert we took home both the key lime pie and chocolate cake. Both looked appealing but, upon opening the package of the key lime pie, it was ruined by a long hair in the whipped cream. Nope! On a positive note, the ambiance was good, the restaurant was clean, and the customer service was great. However, these factors couldn't fully offset the disappointing meal. We've been here twice, once for brunch and once around dinner time. The remodel is very nice, the lighting and color scheme inside is beautiful. They did a great job overall with the vibe. The first time we came on a Sunday for brunch, we actually had a hard time at first figuring out which door was the entrance. There's no signs or anything marked outside. A chalk board sign on the sidewalk would be helpful for this I think. The hostess said it happens all the time. The food at brunch was pretty good, not ground breaking but good. Someone in my party ordered the French toast, which I tasted. It had an odd flavor and the bread was dry. That was the only plate that went uneaten. We had originally planned to eat brunch on the patio. In fact, we had specifically made our reservations for that patio dining experience to celebrate a birthday, but were told the patio was closed during brunch. That was pretty disappointing. The second time we came, it was around dinner time on a Friday evening. The place was busy, and lively. Knowing where the entrance was, was easy this time obviously. However, you walk into the market part of the restaurant, which was extremely crowded. It's just kind of a weird entrance overall in my opinion. We sat at the bar and had a cocktail. I wasn't very hungry, but I did order the heirloom tomato and burrata salad. Honestly it was bland, and disappointing for $16. It was 4 pitiful slices of an heirloom tomato that didn't seem very ripe. Hardly any basil or balsamic glaze. It just felt like a waste. We decided to try this place out after catching a movie nearby. The moment we walked in the door the overpowering stench of rotten seafood slapped us in the face. We decided to overlook it & move forward. We were seated almost immediately but then ignored for way too long. We finally got our drinks, but even though we had our menus down & by the edge of the table, indicating we were ready to order, he just walked away again. We were ignored for a while more before I couldn't take the smell anymore & it was obvious this was going to be a loooong process trying to get food. I had to get out of there. We politely called the waiter over and he apologized and didn't charge us anything (water & one beer). He also acknowledged the unpleasant odor. So why don't they do something?! Saturday evening, September 14th, my friend and made dinner reservations here before heading to a concert. We were greeted right away and sat quickly. We were served by a waited named Jazzy who came to us quickly and was very friendly. Having never been to Bennett's before we had a few questions about the menu which she did a nice job answering for us. We ordered the 3 dip appetizer, a couple of Mocktails, and decided we'd have the bone in ribeye for 2 (no price listed on the menu) done medium along with a side of asparagus. Our drinks and appetizer came out quickly and we began to enjoy our food. The lavender lemonade was refreshing but could have maybe used a little more lavender. The appetizer was good and the chips were flavorful, however the pimento cheese dip was just a little too thick for our liking but had good flavor. Someone from the kitchen arrived shortly and had us pick from 3 large thick ribeyes for our entree. We continued on with our appetizer and ordered another mocktail (spicy dream) which was really good. Our entree came out one a carving board pre-sliced for us and smelled delicious. The asparagus was huge and roasted nicely. We began to eat and I took a small piece of meat to eat while my friend began eating the asparagus. The ribeye was very flavorful but as I was eating the piece I took I looked at the rest of the ribeye and noticed it was not done medium but medium well to mostly well done. Jazzy came to check on us and I pointed it out to her. She quickly agreed and said yes it was not cooked like we ordered and quickly went to get a manager to let them know. A friendly looking gentleman in a pink and green Hawaiian shirt named Matthew came over and spoke to us. He too agreed it was not cooked correctly and asked us if we wanted another one. We almost said no but decided since we were only 10 minutes away from the concert we could be a little late leaving and so said yes to having them redo the steak. Mathew took the steak away and came back to let us know it was being redone and that he was going to comp our drinks for us. We said thank you and continued eating the appetizer and the asparagus. Jazzy came over to apologize to us and also told us Matthew was going to comp our drinks. The steak came out after a few minutes and it was cooked medium to medium rare but it was fine. Matthew came over right away to check to see if we were satisfied and we were and told us he was going to take care of our drinks, the steak, and gave us another order of asparagus since we had pretty much finished the first order waiting for the new steak. We told him he didn't need to do all of that but he insisted. Jazzy came over again and checked to make sure we were satisfied and confirmed what Matthew said about taking care of the steak and drinks for us. The steak we had was easily at least a 50 to 60 dollar steak and he was going to comp us for it. It was getting late for us to make it to the concert so we were only able to have a few bites of the steak. We called Jazzy over for the check and boxes for the meal and she came over with the check already prepared. To our surprise Matthew comped our entire meal and we were not charged for anything. We were very appreciative and decided to give Jazzy a hefty tip for her attentiveness and hard work for us. In these times of inflation and soaring prices, it's good to see that a business is not afraid or focused on the money and do what's in the best interest of the customer and of their reputation. I struggled with the rating to give this lovely restaurant but ultimately settled with 4 stars. I typically only put my effort into writing 5 star reviews and just simply don't return to places where my experience hasn't been good. When you read this review keep in mind that it is meant to be informative and I encourage anyone to try this place at least once to form their own opinion. We have so few upscale quality restaurants like this in our area and my experience will certainly not be the same as anyone else's. Last night was our first night trying this restaurant with great ambiance, excellent service and exceptional tasting food. I would first like to point out the positives and there were many. We came in late around 8pm on a Friday with no reservation and were greeted warmly by the host and seated immediately. Our server Stevie greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, gave us plenty of time to figure out what we wanted to order and was an excellent attentive server throughout our meal. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my husband ordered the steak and bacon tacos. We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts without the bacon for our appetizer. For drinks I ordered the Markham Merlot and my husband ordered an ice tea. The wine was delicious and the tea was clearly freshly brewed and flavorful. The brussel sprouts arrived hot and were excellent in flavor even without the bacon. When our main courses arrived, they were hot with the presentation perfect. They both came with a side of beans, which we didn't expect, but was a nice surprise. The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful. After I took my first bite of beans, I tasted some kind of meat in them. I asked Stevie if there was bacon in them. I don't eat pork. I had asked for no bacon on the brussel sprouts dish since it was listed as an ingredient on the menu. She quickly checked with the kitchen and returned to tell us that yes there is bacon in them. She apologized for it and I told her it's not a problem, that my husband will eat them. Not eating pork is a personal choice but I certainly would prefer to know if it is an ingredient so I can have it omitted when possible. I continued to eat my entree and as I did my stomach started to feel upset. I thought that perhaps there was also bacon in my entree. When Stevie came by next I asked her about this. She left to go ask the kitchen again. A very nice manager, Jose, came to our table, listened to my concern and went over every ingredient in my entree. I felt assured there was no bacon in my food. However, since my stomach wasn't feeling great I didn't eat anything more. My husband finished his food, I finished my wine, we got the check and a to go box for my enchiladas and beans. We would have stayed longer to order more drinks and dessert but they were at that time past closing. I didn't want to be rude by keeping staff there longer than they needed to be. As we were getting ready to leave my husband tells me that his stomach was feeling upset as well. He headed to the restroom before we left. As I waited for him near the front entrance I was perusing the food in the cold case that you can purchase to go. I saw that there was a chicken enchilada entree and decided to read the ingredients. I was surprised to see bacon listed. Then I started to feel lied to but wanting to give the benefit of the doubt sought out Jose to ask about this. Another manager was nearby and came to speak to us. She explained that the entree to go was made slightly differently. That for presentation purposes they put the beans with bacon inside the enchiladas. Although the tone of her response came off defensive it seemed to be a reasonable explanation and I had no good reason not to believe it. After we left the restaurant my husband and I had planned to go somewhere else for late night drinks and dessert but by the time we got in our car our stomachs were so upset we just headed home. Our upset stomach situation continued throughout the night and into the next day, today. Do I know what exactly from our dining experience caused this? No. Was it something we both ate? Yes. We had different entrees, both had at least one bite of the side beans with bacon, but shared the brussel sprouts so who knows the actual cause was. Is $85 including tip reasonable for 2 made from scratch entrees, an appetizer, and 2 drinks? Absolutely, in fact that is an excellent value for your money! Despite the bacon with beans situation but before the upset stomachs had we had planned to return to Bennett's. In fact, we were considering making a reservation for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner out. Is leaving a restaurant not feeling so great something we want to repeat or take a chance on? Unfortunately no. We would have so loved to add Bennett's to our preferred places to dine. read more

We were invited to a friends birthday party at Bennetts Rocklin. The atmosphere is very nice. We ordered their special which was prime rib meal for $39. My husband and I planned to share the meal so he asked for an additional bowl of soup, clam chowder which was amazing, but the prime rib was under cooked and not very tender, mashed potatoes were just ok. Most of my reason for the 3 stars was they charged us $20 for an extra bowl of soup. Our ticket for a $39 split meal and 2 beers was $92! Not sure why restaurants do these things. Worst service ever from our waitress Carly. We waited for 15 minutes for her to take our drink order. Ended up waiting about 30 mins after that for our drinks because she gave our drinks to the couple next to us. The couple acknowledged that they didn't order those drinks, but they would take them if she was willing to give our drinks to them, as to which Carly said , "ok they are on the house." So Carly our waitress is giving away free drinks to her other table next to us while we are waiting for our drinks. We even had to flag her down to tell her we never got our drinks. For the first half hour, she walked by us multiple times without acknowledging us. We got seated at 5:00 and we had to wait till about 5:50 to put in our second drink order which took about 15 min to get one drink. It was irritating to watch her refill the couple waters next to us and I waited an hour for her to realize I needed a refill too. Carly didn't even acknowledge her mistake and we were ignored for the first hour. This was definitely one of the worst experiences we ever had which is unfortunate because we liked it the first time we came here. I don't know what Carly had against us but she really put a damper on mine and my wife's anniversary. read more

Never eating here again. Their staff are thieves. I was given a birthday card. The orange envelope had my name in it. It fell out of my purse and the staff kept it. It had a $50 amazon gift card in it. When I called to ask about the staff was incapable of understanding what a birthday card is. What an orange envelope is. Or even repeating the spelling of my name as I said it to them. I hope the person who stole the card really needed it. Karma will set them right. read more

My husband and I have driven down here twice from Yuba City and we're going again to celebrate his birthday. We absolutely love this place. The food has been fantastic, excellent quality & much larger portions for the price than we expected. I'll first open by saying, I have frequented this beautiful new restaurant 7 times over the last month. I'm so impressed with the upscale ambiance, great tasting food and seat ability. Not one time, I had made a reservation and still was sat quickly. One time, the owner graciously offered our whole party a glass of wine while we waited. The gesture was generous and impactful. Onto the reason in which 3 stars are assigned. Sadly, i have two friends i dined with at the restaurant on different days the same week who came down with food poisoning. Two times, i felt very lucky as It seems I dodged a scary food poisoning. On one date, I had ordered the fried bah mi sandwich. Fortunately, my husband had cut it in half before we ate it, the fried chicken was translucent and clearly not cooked through. Another occasion, I had ordered a split Maui Beet salad with a friend who got the food poisoning. Fortunately my consumption of that item was just a few bites. I did get severe diarrhea about 90 mins after eating but nothing worse. It seams that there could be an issue in the kitchen and lack of sanitation. It's so easy to cross contaminate if you're newer in the kitchen. Items that were ordered and produced food poisoning were: enchiladas, Mia salad, Maui beet salad, clam chowder and prime rib and bah mi sandwich. All of this said, I really hope that whatever issue causing the problem gets ironed out soon. I'd love to give this restaurant 5 stars when we can reliably dine without the fear of food poisoning. read more

The food is really BAD, no flavor and the coffee was absolutely disgusting. I ordered the avocado toast with hard poached eggs on the side. Eggs came out runny, almost raw. This place did not disappoint. We had reservations and they sat us at a wobbly table, but eventually moved us to a booth. It was a more comfortable experience. We ordered the prime rib which was excellent. The desserts (butter cake and strawberry shortcake) were also very yummy.
