This has become one of my favorite local spots, and for good reason. I've been here several times and the experience is always great. The food is consistently delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Whether you're stopping by for a meal, drinks, or both, you really can't go wrong. One of the biggest reasons I keep coming back is Alex. He is an amazing mixologist and always goes above and beyond with his drinks. Every cocktail l've tried has been pertectly crafted, creative, and packed with flavor. If you're looking for recommendations, trust Alex he never disappoints. It's clear he takes pride in what he does, and it definitely shows in every drink he serves. The atmosphere is welcoming, fun, and perfect for a night out with friends, family, or even a casual date night. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always makes you feel like a valued customer. It's not often you find a place that consistently delivers great food, outstanding drinks, and excellent service, but Don Q's Cantina does exactly that. I have still not found a Mexican restaurant that was as good as it was before 2019. This spot is popular and does a good job. There are two dining options. One area is first come first serve, wait service with a few tables and bar seats Popular during happy hour! Good luck! The other section is like cafeteria style. Order at counter, find a seat, and food is delivered to you. The salsa is a walk up salad bar and chips are free. The chips are good. Skinny margaritas we ordered were good! Food is presented well and is tasty. The only two problems, 1. Food or salsas leave you desperate for water hours after eating. Maybe my salt intake has changed but they must use a lot of salt! You can't taste it but it's there. So thirsty! 2. You leave there smelling like the food. Not much you can do since it's a cafeteria style eatery. It's not a bad thing, but I hate that! I have been here a couple of times. Each time we sat at the bar top. 2 times we had alcoholic beverages, margaritas and vodka soda, the last time we just had ice tea and soda water. Drinks were great, service was a bit slower than you would think sitting at the bar. Initial engagement could use a better sense of urgency. We enjoy the larger bean dip with the chips, and the guacamole was really good, Food is always enjoyable. Enchilada combo and chili verde. I just had the taco salad in the crisp flour tortilla. Initial thought was it was a little small, but it was very filling and flavorful. I had the chili verde as a protein and it was so tender. Very satisfying. The bar side of the restaurant is typically busy, but spacious. Lots of conversation but you can still enjoy your own conversation. read more

Our first stop at day drinking...my cousin talked about a watermelon margarita. I said you have me sold! It's a pretty spot, and there's the restaurant as well as the large bar area, I loved the hanging lights and dark spot. The menu was extensive and hard to narrow down, but I was able to go with these puff tacos which were ginormous, but oh so flavorful and tasty. The watermelon margarita was dangerously good that they should offer pitchers. There was also an horchata alcoholic drink that we decided to get as our dessert. The only thing which was pointed out by my cousin and also to the staff, was having music that matched the vibe some reggaeton, or latin but instead it was rock type music. I was told that on a Friday this place is the spot and people are bustling out as it's packed and the music is bumping. Don Q's has 2 distinct spaces - a buffet style family cantina and a bar. We sat in the bar area which offered mostly high-top tables, bar seating, and wide screen TVs to view sporting events. The staff here hustle, making every effort to provide friendly, timely service. Our server, Juana, was gracious and helpful, offering suggestions from the menu that elevated our experience. The bartenders constantly scanned patrons sitting at the bar to provide efficient service. Tortilla chips are served with 3 types of salsa -- rojo, greens and bean dip w/ cotija. The shrimp ceviche appetizer is eye-pleasing, delicious, and exceptionally light on the palate with a kick of spiciness. Loved it! Crispy fish tacos were a hit. Between the grilled fish taco and grilled shrimp taco, the grilled fish taco was the standout as it was topped with a tangy Mexican cilantro sauce. Happy hour selections are available. The berry margarita appeared to be the most popular drink coming from the bar. Mocktails are also available. We had a fantastic experience at Don Q's Cantina. We opted to sit on the bar side of the restaurant, which had a great atmosphere, and every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious. The crunchy chicken tacos were perfectly crisp, and both the adobada and steak tacos were tender and packed with flavor. The pozole was rich and authentic, and everything paired perfectly with a cold draft beer and a refreshing house margarita. Employee took the order, did not write anything down. Brought wrong items because he didn't write down our order! Stopped by for a late night dinner. I went through the wrong door as this is separate from their restaurant. The Cantina has a bar and from reading the menu, it looks like they have a really good happy hour. Too bad it was after hours, lol. Their chips and salsa were not only free, but it came with three dipping sauces: the traditional tomato salsa, a creamy cilantro sauce and my favorite the bean and cheese dip. The chicken quesadilla I ordered was classically delicious. I really appreciated their generosity on the sour cream that came with it! Add any of their salsa dips for different unique flavors. 4th visit August 2025: Arrived 4:30pm for happy hour menu (3pm - 6pm). Bambie and me ate and drank: shrimp cocktail, birria torta, street tacos, free chips and dips, Modelo Oscuro beer and Cadillac margarita. Ostensibly a cheap meal, but when you add up the bill it's really not a savings over ordering a regular priced combo plate. Problem: 2nd time this has happened and with the same server. He greets us friendly, seems adept. Takes our order without writing it. Bambie asks "You remember all that? He smiles and nods. And he screwed up 65% of the order. Brought out wrong items, forgot 2 of them. After we repeated our order he disappeared. Another employee took over our service. Then the bill was delivered with all the regular prices without the happy hour discounts. I love to eat here, the food can be delicious, but the service competence is low. Bambie prefers a sit down, order from an employee meal experience. That's not as important to me as the food quality. I think it's just easier to go to the other side of the wall and order from the cafeteria style restaurant. You get what you want, quickly. The food is just as good. Do you want solid food for a great price? This is where to be. My mom and sister were visiting from Socal and on our way out to the airport we decided to get some eats. We showed up during Happy Hour and this is BY FAR the best deal I've ever come across. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but there was a 3 taco, salad and alcoholic drink combo for $15. WHAT!? If you've ever been to Don Quixote's, it's literally the same exact food. Essentially Chipotle style but with much better ingredients. The real difference here from next door is that there are a few TVs and an extensive spirits menu at again, great/fair prices. The ambiance is a bit more upscale than next door. Service was a bit lacking, but I'll chock that up to some understaffing. Not going to hold anything back from this fine mom and pops owned establishment. Would definitely recommend! read more

Don Q's Cantina is a hidden gem in Placer County. The food is a remarkable value and made very consistently. I love the Mexican hospitality that you are greeted with every single time you arrive. You feel like family! The drinks are fantastic and their Happy Hour is great! They also have an extensive tequila selection with high end brands to smaller producers that you can explore. Their tequila prices are beyond reasonable for a bar compared to Sacramento or the Bay Area. The Owner, Linda, is always making sure you are having the best experience possible. We've been to this location twice. We gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time because both this and next door were packed! Service was super slow and we're were there easily over an hour waiting for our food. We went back the day after Valentine's Day. We experienced pretty much the same service. The bartender got our drink orders and said he will get our food orders in "after he speaks to the people that just walked in." They were out of almost every beer, but it was fine because the day before was slammed. If we were ready to order food, couldn't we have just ordered everything? It was a lot of time between each interaction. The food was good. I asked for no beans with my order but got beans. It's a cool looking bar! There's about 8-10 tables maybe plus the bar seats? I think if the service is going to be that slow constantly then they should have someone in the bar and someone on the floor. We will probably just stick to Don Quixote's and not come back to the cantina. read more

First time here, sat in the Cantina area as football was on. Bar area has two big tvs to watch the game. You are provided a bowl of chips, with salsa, avocado salsa and bean dip. The chicken tacos were so good, the shrimp were just ok- shrimp under seasoned but cooked very well- not overdone. The menu isn't extensive, but everything thing I've had has been great. The waiters can't even tell you that (only one spoke English), I had to find out for myself. So my question is: why tip 20% for service if they already charge 20% more? My gf and I came here on Cinco de Mayo to pre celebrate my birthday which is falling on M's Day weekend. The place was packed! Luckily, we found seating outside and that worked out perfect. My gf had ordered us two Margarita's to start. They brought out complimentary chips n salsa w/bean dip and guacamole. We also ordered the Queso Fundido. That came out in a sizzling platter, cheese topped with chorizo. It hit the spot. I ordered the fried fish taco and grilled shrimp taco and added a side of rice and beans for $3 more. My gf got the Chile Relleno plate. Both entrees were great, the only problem was the beans. It was super salty, other than that it was fantastic! The manager, Mario, came out to talk to us. He prides himself on serving quality food and drinks. The margarita mix is fresh and not coming from a pre mix. Mario said he'll make me a Mezcarita next time, so we'll be going back for that! My wife and I stopped in for lunch. This is next to Don Quixote's on Sunset Blvd. The menu had several good choices. The lunch special was $16, and INCLUDED a drink(including alcohol). This was the first time we have seen a lunch special that included alcohol if wanted. The lunch specials were very tasty. Our server was Steve, and he was great. I originally thought Steve was the owner the way he stayed busy, and was very attentive to the guests. I was surprised to discover he was en employee, and not the owner. GREAT JOB STEVE. The restaurant was a smaller section, but had a full service bar area also. We will definitely be back again with friends for dinner. read more
