Went to Walmart for a 26" tire and tube for my bicycle, everything was cheap looking and pricy. Decided to hold off and went here. Ben's Bikes was nice place, very clean top notch specialty store with lots of bikes, parts and options. The owner found me the best match and best quality and was very helpful answering some questions I had regarding my bike. Cost was same or less than Walmarts where NOBODY EVER ASKS OR HELPS YOU and you end up getting the replacement equipment for the Walmart bikes, but not necessarily the correct parts for other brand bikes, like tires and tubes. My new tire is awesome and makes the other tire look bad now. The tube out of the bix was a much better quality, you could just tell. I'll be going back to Ben's Bikes to get another. Definitely my only place to go now for bicycle equipment, replacement, advice and maintenance. read more

Tucson we finally have a legit Aventon EB store that can follow up with maintenance and warranty work if necessary. I bought an Aventon Pace 500.3 a while back online. It needed some servicing - they did the job competently and efficiently. Strongly recommend them and the bike. It has a left thumb speed control that even my friends with Cannondale and Specialized EBs envy. Nice for a boost when you start out across an intersection. I also bought a Giant FastRoad AR2 from them. GREAT all-around bike. Just changed out the handlebar grips and the pedals to be more like those on the Aventon and it is a superb bike you would never regret buying or riding. read more

Ben's Bikes has a great selection of bicycles. The staff was very knowledgeable even letting me know it would be the same amount to go get a new Walmart bike as it would be to fix the one I currently had. I ended up buying a better quality bike and some tools for on the go eg. Chain lube, carb gels, liquid tube insulation. They didn't try and upsell me either I just wanted to have them on hand. They changed out the tubes for me, put the liquid in for me, and threw in a little refillable bottle for free! Highly recommend this place for beginner or advanced cyclists, bmxers, and mountain bikers. read more

OK. I have read all the reviews to date (34) at the time of my review. This is a locally owned business, the owner can run it how he sees fit, this would apply to COVID protocols as well. Now onto the good stuff, bikes. I would not say I frequent this place too often, but it is close for me, on the east side of town. I would say prices are slightly higher than most places, but it is a brick and mortar shop, you can touch and feel what you plan to buy, to me there is value in that, and the fact it is locally owned. They have a great selection of tools and maintenance items if you plan to work on your own bike. Tubes, sealant, gloves and all the good stuff. Bike selection during Covid is low, like all bike shops around town. They seem to carry Giant and trek. They have a good little selection of clothing and or the random goods, pedals, grips, and seats. They have always been polite and knowledgeable every time I have gone in. There is a lady that works there, she is a master of the up-sale and always seems to find cool little do-dads, bar end tool kits to sell you. Very knowledgeable. I have never had them do any maintenance on my bike, but I have heard at the time of this review it could be a 2-3 week wait, which is good for them, as they are busy. Only reason I gave this place 4 out of 5 is pricing. read more

I have used this place many times. I bought my wife a new bike for valentines day here. I bought a bike at a pawn shop and brought it here to return it to riding condition for myself, and I most recently brought my daughters bike here for new tires. The tires were and odd size, and they searched their stored inventory and found what I needed. Then they did the work on the spot and I was taking my daughters bike home in 30 minutes! Great customer service helping me choose my first bike helmet from the large selection

On 3/17 I purchased 2 new Gatorskin tires at Ben's Bikes and paid them to put them on. On my second ride, the bead let loose on my rear tire, the brakes rubbed twice, and the tire blew. The bead had separated. I took it back to the shop and they refused to do anything, blaming it on a bad tube. I believe the young kid did not get the tire seated properly. Alright so, First I don't mean to be a Super "KAREN" on this place but. I had High hopes on this Establishment. I brought in a Bike that needed to be Assembled & tuned to Speck which should have been super simple. I haven't rode a BIKE for 20+ years so I wanted to be safe. They had the bike for just shy of a week. The so Called "EXPERIENCED"Mechanic said he couldn't place the peddles on the bike. So before I took the bike back where I bought it from I thought I'd give it a go. I've NEVER put a Bike together mind you. So, with in an Hour I had it put together and was riding around my Neighborhood. To me, they Rubbed me the wrong way and wasn't dropping a huge amount of money in the shop. Snarky, unfriendly, expensive and seemed not to care about the pandemic. This bike shop seems to stay afloat by a good old boy network / word of mouth through VETS. Doesn't imply helpful or competent. I have been around bikes my whole life this place rubbed me the wrong way. I also didn't like the way they spoke to the older woman working the front counter. I bought a bike about 6 months ago from Ben's shop. The bike comes with a tune up but I was told on three occasions that I'll have to leave it there for two to three weeks. They won't make appointments for bike service even if you've spent close to $2,000 on a bike. Also, wanted to purchase some tires and accessories, the woman who was going to help us disappeared. I'm a healthy 72-year-old with a wife at home with co-morbidities. Wearing face mask and shield I went into Ben's. A sixty-something woman stood behind the cash register and a man (Ben?) Called a friendly hello. They're were maybe 6-8 people in the store. Been came over right away to ask what I was looking for, friendly. I started to tell him but stopped mid-sentence to ask a question. "Why is no one wearing a mask?" Honestly, I was terrified. Ben's friendly reply was that the store tried to social distance. But that wasn't what I saw. Folks were clustered around a bike being repaired. And all of this was indoors. I look forward to visiting Ben's once the pandemic resolves. But not until then. I'm biking for health. I don't want to contact a deadly disease while buying safety equipment. I'm safer not wearing as helmet than buying one at Ben's. read more

I've been in Nogales for about 3 weeks riding a single speed bike while I'm back home and I ran into some bottom bracket/ crank arm issues. Ben's bikes was very helpful in diagnosing and fixing the small issue I had with my drivetrain/crank arm. Other shops defaulted to wanting to swap out my bottom bracket but my friends at Ben's made it work for me quick and easy and understood the best way to get me back on the road! I've been to Ben's Bikes a few times now. I see a review on here from a guy from Columbus, OH....Snarky (Welcome to a retired Vet in the West, man), unfriendly (whaaaat? Hahaha! I've lived in OH...talk about unfriendly!), expensive (dude, you're in a high end bike shop...), and "seemed not to care about the pandemic"...that's so vague. Everyone cares in a different way. Some of us just have common sense and don't go by all the crap people are shoving down throats with fear and propaganda. Leaving a 1 star review for a shop that "rubbed you the wrong way" is a waste of your time and harms local business. As for not liking the way they spoke to the woman behind the counter....I wasn't there, but I've lived on the East and West coast and you're right, culture is VERY different. I prefer West coast, so I'm here. If you prefer East coast, more power to you, but don't expect us to be you. All that to say, I know Ben, have been to the bike shop several times, LOVE it, and there's NOTHING worth a 1 star review there. I took my Rad ebike in to get the derailleur adjusted. The bike has 100 miles on it. I was told that I needed a full tuneup ($140). Picked it up and it didn't work at all. The electronics will not come on, like no power. They told me they don't work on that. I asked them to please try. They called and said they would not work on it without charging me. I called the owner to complain and he would only say that I can't prove that it worked when I brought it in. Really??? So I may have to take it to Seattle to get it fixed. All my friends are hearing this. I'm just sick about this and more than disappointed. I live in Sequim, not California like the review says. read more

Although I'm nowhere near pro, he is the stand up type of guy to explain everything necessary to get you whatever product that you need, not just what you think you want. Ben had the heart to even help me learn how to ride a bike because it is truly his goal to get as many people on bikes as possible. Ben clearly caters to bicyclists spending $5k or more on a bike. When I bought an $800 bike from them, I felt like I wasn't worth their time. When the bike had tire issues, they blamed me for the issues. It turns out that they made the mistake. If you are an elite bicyclist, you are likely welcome at Ben's. This store would not offer a free helmet even when their website says they do. That is just poor customer service. If you can't offer folks a helmet for safely purposes you shouldn't let anyone take one out. $3 would have made this customer happy and I never write poor reviews because I am used to being treated respectfully. This store and manager did not and argued with me that if their website says a customer CAN get a bike helmet it does not really mean they WILL get one with their rental. Really!!! I'd like to point out, the only reason I've given this 2 stars instead of 1 is solely because of Ben. He is a really nice guy and cool to talk to. He is very knowledgeable. Unfortunately I've had a couple of bad experiences with this bike shop. I took my bike in for a tune up before a big race. I found out DURING my race, there was no slime put in my tires and my chain broke. Mistakes happen, so I let it go. I keep coming back, hoping for a better experience. I have even brought buddies in to rent bikes and buy bikes from here. I always try to recommend Ben's bike shop when I can. After today's interaction, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I brought my bike in 4 days ago for another tune up, brakes, tires, etc. Routine stuff. I let them know on multiple occasions I'd be leaving out of town Friday morning for my race that is 9 hours away. I called Thursday at 1pm for an update, assuming it would be ready that evening. They hadn't started on it and said they would work on it first thing in the morning. They open at 10am. I just now picked my bike up around 1pm. This delayed my travel plans by 6 hours. When I ask for a discount or anything for the inconvenience (I took a whole day of work off to wait around apparently), the cashier responded that I should have brought it in sooner. 4 days should have been plenty of time for what they called a 2 hour job.
