A man flashed his gun to the entire bar and no one did anything. I was at Ben's picking up food last night. While the bartender stepped away to get my order, two people began arguing across the bar. Before I knew it, one of the men started to leave. As he was walking out, he lifted his shirt and deliberately displayed a pistol to the entire bar. Several people were upset and wanted to contact the police. When the bartender returned though she said that the armed man was a "regular" and that the person who wanted to call law enforcement needed to leave because she did not know him. The concerned customer was then told to leave and nothing was done about the man who had displayed the firearm AT A BAR! And on top of it this was around 7:30 PM and families were dining in the room over. It was easily one of the most absurd situations I have ever witnessed. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. This was my first and last time going there. read more

Gosh, I've been here before, but like yeeeeears ago, when I was a child. It is a bit dated and the decor is somewhat tired, with a few modern enhancements, but it felt quite familiar. The food is pretty good. My son had a kid's meal pizza with jello, which he enjoyed. His dad had the meatball sub which he seemed to enjoy, as well. I had the chicken sandwich with fries and coleslaw, which was also solid. The beer is cold. The food is decent. Not much to look at inside, but the service is friendly and efficient. I had their chicken planks and it is a wonderful choice. It is such a huge meal and the planks are literally each the size of a piece of chicken breast. They are crispy, and very tasty. Fries are great and side salad is a very generous size. read more

Horrible management!!! Restaurant was 85 degrees and because the bar area, where managers work, air conditioning was working over there, they didn't care about the restaurant side patrons. Food was undercooked. Sad, 2nd time we had a bad experience here. Do better!! read more

Our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious! There was 8 of us ladies and and everyone was pleased with the food and service.

We celebrated my birthday here at the local restaurant. My meal was delicious, the waitress was attentive and it wasn't overly packed for a Friday night. This is our second time eating here in 3 months with family. Unfortunately there is NO gluten free menu or options of what is "safe" for someone who has Celiac Disease. So it means you're stuck with a salad. It's unfortunate to come to a restaurant with decent food where no one care about your dietary needs. Do yourself a favor and drive 20 minutes east into Canfield. I have given this place several tries since my son lives close by here. The service is hit or miss but usually slow, the food quality is on the lower end and often overdone or bland depending on what you order. The best thing they offer is a salad read more

This place is a tradition for my grandfather and I after a fishing trip. This past time was very disappointing. The food was good, although the portions have gotten smaller. The cocktails were sad. I ordered a rum and Coke. I couldn't tell there was rum in it. Not in a good way. It tasted like watered down Coke. The service was subpar, but I'll give it a pass. Everywhere is short staffed. Now for the fun part. The food poisoning. My entire group got it. Different dishes, same stomach issues. First time for that, but it's made me wary of going back. My husband and I came to Bens tonite for their fish dinner and a seafood platter. We were so upset with the way the food looked, and the fishy taste of the fish we never had experienced before. The deep fried fry's and seafood were not crispy, as though they had been thrown into less then hot oil, or oil which needed changed. We are regulars here, so we know this isn't the norm. please don't serve food that costs good money like this! I got the fried seafood platter came with 2 nice sized pieces of fish, 2 extra large shrimp and 2 giant scallops. It was all delicious. The fish was the highlight though. Best White Sangria in the area. My sister-in-law lives in Youngstown and I live near Canton. Ben's is half way for wach of us. We sat on the deck. Other patrons came out with their dogs. It was a very friendly atmosphere. We met at 2:00 pm so there was no wait. Rachel was our waitress. She was GREAT!!! Let us catch up before we had to look at the menu. All the food is outstanding at Ben's. I got the Broasted Chicken and it was lightly breaded. Just Perfect. We've had the fish and the steak sandwich, never disappointed. Worth the drive. read more

Stopped the other night and ate in the bar. Ordered the perch dinner with baked potato and green beans. The draft beer I ordered wasn't real cold... so the second one was bottled served in a frosted mug. Much better. The fish and potato was good.. but was served like warm. Very tasty but disappointed that is wasn't hot. The beans were perfectly cooked too... but were barely warm. Upon completing my meal I waited for the completed meal dishes to be cleared . The waitress never cleared them or asked me anything. She never brought a bill. Twenty minutes passed... so I guessed at the amount, including tip, and left the money on the bar. Second visit to this place. Decent crowd for lunch. Beer was served in ice frosted glasses. French fries were awesome. They seem to cut their own potatoes to make their fries. I can't give a star, but have to to submit this review. I can't believe the way I was treated there this evening. I have been a longtime customer with at least three past disappointments at this eatery. Once was the Reuben with discolored tasteless, fatty corned beef served on soggy bread. Another was a chicken dinner "special" where the chicken tasted "off" as though it was past the fresh point by a few days. Yuck! Sometimes the pepper salad has nasty chunks of rotting tomato and yet, I kept going back because I like the Susie's Shrimp so much, even when the lettuce leaf used to dress the platter was brown and wilted a time or two. We have taken grandchildren, family and friends to Bens and even took our whole family after our wedding to enjoy their food. Everyone went away happy then. Tonight was much different. We took my sister in law to celebrate her birthday. She and her husband had never been there before. The orders came and I ordered wings. They came with celery ribs and carrot sticks the thickness of a halved hotdog and hard as rocks. The wings were undercooked. I notified our waitress and she told me that she had the kitchen drop another batch into the fryer. I told her that I could eat the flat ones which were done just enough, but the drum sections were bloody, so I let her take them back. several minutes later she came back with the drums I sent back. They had been refried and were all dried up. I told her that these were the same ones and she said, "No, they're new ones." Well, the two that I had torn back to show the undoneness were in there and I knew better. I went to the front and asked to see the owner. She refused to come out and speak with me. The waitress said that she would take $2 off of my bill and that the owner refused to do anything more. Now, I know my way around good business practices and have cooked for several well respected restaurants and it has never been a problem to reimburse a customer for unsatisfactory service or food let alone refuse to even be confronted with the problem. I insisted, but was met with more opposition. The floor manager agreed with me but couldn't do anything about it without the approval from her boss. Someone in the restaurant resolved the issue, but it was not the restaurant itself. What a shameful cowardly dishonest way to treat people who could choose to eat anywhere they wanted and came to your business, with guests! Never again! They lost respect and business and will likely receive a visit from the health department for placing food that was handled and bitten by a customer into the fryer a second time. The $6.50 that I asked to have removed from our $83 bill certainly better be worth it. read more

Garbage service. Came in with a party of 5 after day on the lake. Walked in and stood by the "wait to be seated" sign. The "kid" up front looked at us without saying anything and walked in the back. He returned a few minutes later and appeared confused that we were still standing there. He said "Do you need something?". He was actually almost confrontational. Sorry I thought this was a restaurant that sold food. We turned around and left. With employees like that, your business deserves to fail. I boat at Berlin multiple times a week and wouldn't send my worst enemy there. Horrific and embarrassing experience. First time I've walked out of a restaurant. I normally don't complain but I went to Ben's and ordered a burger and upgraded for a buck to get onion rings. They brought me 3 rings. I know it's small and no big deal. But what bummed me was the service. When asked about upgrading they said " yeah you up charged and get three rings". Pretty much I don't care deal with it. Just got carry out from here today...everything is closed for dining in due to corona virus shut down. They do have both a dining room and large bar area though. We ordered a blue cheeseburger and cod sandwich. They came with lots of homemade French fries. Not healthy but good comfort food! Since the corona virus shutdown, I have ordered a lot of take out food. This is the ONLY place that wiped off the pen with a disinfectant wipe before handing it to me AND also wiped off my credit card with the disinfectant wipe before giving it back to me. They were also handed to me with the person not touching either with her bare hand but rather holding the items with a disinfectant wipe. I am in the health care field and really appreciate this type of cleanliness and safety precautions being taken. read more

Ordered a prime rib medium well it was well done fry tough and.inedible. They took it back but did not offer anything as a replacement so just had baked potato and broccoli for which they charged me $14!!!!! Waitress brought our bill BEFORE everyone in our party was even done eating. Bread was very good. They were out of mashed potatoes and no bacon for a fully loaded baked potato. My husband ordered the Susie's t and he said they were over cooked and hard. 6 shrimp for $19 and it was not good. Severely disappointed will never go there again read more

Went here a couple weeks ago for our date night. Worst service we have ever had. Waited 10 minutes to even see our waitress. Waited another 15 minutes for a gin and tonic and a bottle of beer. Waited another 20 minutes for appetizer and salad to arrive. Waited another 10 minutes watching 4 tables get their food. These tables came in AFTER we ordered our meals. We were there over an hour. Our waitress was not very interested in any of her tables. She was in kitchen most of the time as my husband had a clear view of the doors. I had had enough waiting so we got up and left. That short waitress needs to be fired. She is losing business for owners. Her other table behind us was complaining to each other also. We have been to Bens several times and always have excellent food and service! I got filet mignon. It was done perfectly. My husband got the Aussie sirloin and I never saw such a thick ,beautiful steak! Their coleslaw was good and French fries were crisp and nice. The baked potato was just fine. Also had French onion soup that was spot on in taste. I'm not sure why people are complaining because we always have a great experience and fantastic food! read more

Never been to Ben's Restaurant before and won't be back. Seat your self service and not very busy for lunch time. We sat for over 15 minutes and not a single employee came to our table (even though they walked past) so we left. Horrible service -if you can even call that service. read more

Ben's Restaurant is in a great setting and you can enjoy live music out on the patio on weekends during the summer. The salad was fresh with a generous amount of blue cheese crumbles. My perch dinner was batter dipped which is a heavier coating than what I prefer but it was crispy and browned without overcooking the small filets. A fresh squeeze of lemon, a touch of tartar sauce and all is well. My Tangueray and tonic was made with a generous pour. The spouse enjoyed a very tender portion of prime rib. She raved about the side of applesauce, which had soft chunks of apples and appeared homemade. She was also delighted to discover that they have Angry Orchard on draught. The server was an attentive person. We were in no hurry so if the service on the slow side we did not notice. Overall I believe this place appeals to an older crowd. The musician had a good repertoire of Eagles, Bob Seeger, and others of that ilk. Dinner and drinks for two with some familiar oldies all for $45! read more

I ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter. Scrod was yummy. Shrimp overcooked, but the scallops were raw. Salad was good. My husband had the lasagna, so they may have put it together put all they did was open a number 10 can of Contadina sauce and poured it over the top. YUCK! Very disappointing. Fish plater at Ben's ! Got more then expected. Nice size fish sandwich that comes with french fries, coleslaw, applesauce or cottage cheese and a bonus of Cantaloupe. Excellent meal, fantastic service, price is very reasonable! Cannot go wrong eating at Ben's. read more

I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before stopping or else we may not have given this place a chance. The gratis bread given to each table is excellent, with some salt and seasonings. We had the fried chicken (fried perfectly: not dry, crispy coating) and the lasagna. The lasagna was drowning in sauce, but it was still very, very good. There are a couple of issues: it's old and outdated and they are very understaffed in the serving department so our server was apologetic and very pleasant, even though we had to wait on a few things. But we could see that she was very busy and not standing around, so she earned her tip. The good definitely outweigh the bad, so if you're in the area, give this place a shot. We drove 40 minutes to get there and it was worth the time. read more

When the waitress informed us that they had an ADULT SHARING CHARGE we got up and left! My wife and I are seniors and 90% of the time we orde something and share because we just can't eat that much any longer. My third visit to this restaurant, last two were ok, I didn't pick the place, went with family. This was my Dad's 70th birthday and he wanted Prime Rib. It was on special board for $24.95, Dad ordered it Medium. It came out more than medium, the server apologized-we knew it wasn't her fault. Dad couldn't finish because it was tough, and was going to feed it to our dogs. They only took off $5, really?! Now I know why they weren't busy on a Saturday night. Disappointed for Dad. read more

This place seemed nice enough when we came in but that's about where it stopped. Our waitress at least pretended to care when we were the only customers in the place but as soon as more people came I could hardly get my coffee filled.. I ordered the "grilled" chicken salad. Worst quality chicken I've ever had from a restaurant. Think frozen "great valu" brand but freezer burnt. They assured me they never freeze their chicken but I'm not buying it. And on top of that they forgot to season it and the seasoning was just dusted on top of my "chicken". I sent it back and told the waitress I just wanted a refund and she said they wouldn't void it. So I got my meal back and it tasted basically the same.
