I like Benson Brewery. For one, the beer is consistently great especially considering their ever-rotating list of seasonal and experimental house made brews. The atmosphere is also very inviting. From the new banquet room to the cozy little bar to the fantastic outdoor seating area that's hidden out back, it's all very modern-urban-chic. The one thing I've had inconsistencies with is the food. Three out of four times my meal was excellent -- quality, fresh ingredients comprise the deliciousness that is their house salad and mahi-mahi sandwich. They also make a mighty-fine burger and not-too-shabby fish tacos (even though I'm never too keen on the flour tortillas, well, from anywhere). My saddest moment was when I popped in for a beer and an appetizer before heading to another event down Maple Street. The beer, as always, was great. But my hummus and bread app was underwhelming -- way too much (stale) bread and bland hummus made me leave half of it behind. Where do you go to kill an hour or two in the Benson area of Omaha.. My band mate and I decided to hit up Benson Brewery to try out some beer! I'm so glad we did, and we ended up staying for dinner! First thing you notice is the smell of hops.. It hit me as we walked in, the brew master was up on a ladder making beer! I love how you can see them working, crafting, and handing your future beverage with care! I choose to get the FIX Ale which had a perfect hoppy bite and was definitely the best beer I drank today (we had a few that night)! We also stayed to order food, because the vegan options were pretty incredible! I got the BBQ Tofu sandwich, which as Mike S. says is a little messy but dang it's good, topped with Vegan Mayo, it's unlike any fried tofu sandwich I have ever had! It was brilliant. It comes packed to the gills with toppings, and I got a side of fries and they stuff the plate silly. The staff was great, baseball was on the tube, and a friend came to grab dinner with us! I was beyond disappointed with the service and food. I brought my friend from out town here for his birthday because its always been amazing...not tonight. Our server seemed like she was high and couldn't remember anything. Drinks took forever, and we were one of four tables. Food tasted terrible. Let's be honest, I'll probably give most any local brewery a 5 star review because that's how I roll with the local shit. But I really think Benson Brewery deserves it. Everyone at our table got a different beer and they all were able to perfectly fit their needs. They have good food, all their own beers on tap and a full bar: recipe for success. I really enjoyed their Debut IPA. The food was also a hit with us. The mahi mahi fish and chips were some of the best I've had. I have also eaten the smoked pork sandwich, which was somehow an impressively upscale spin to a regular pulled pork sandy. The sandwich was topped with a house slaw and an egg. The seitan gyro was sliced a little thicker than I prefer as well. The Brussels sprouts without prosciutto were great. The normal food fair looked good as well and everything came out fairly timely. Stopped by here for lunch the other day while we were on our way through town. As vegans we naturally thought the was no way we would be able to eat, but to our surprise Benson Brewery offered a vegan menu. The vibe of the place is very cool, but above that the service wasn't excellent. The food was above average for pub food. The buffalo wings were made from Seitan tossed in either a hot Buffalo sauce or a sweet BBQ sauce. Both come with vegan ranch. The star of the show however was the fried tofu sandwich. The texture of the tofu and the crush and it's flavor profile closely resembled a McFish or whatever that sandwich was called. It was amazing how accurate the flavors were and how the chef was able to match the texture of fried fish from whatever they put the fish through. Overall, a quite enjoyable meal and definitely a recommended stop for anyone in Omaha or traveling through. read more

Visited Benson again after having a beer at nearby Infusion. Our experience at Benson was very disappointing. Bartender was disinterested in helping us, the beer options were few, and staff seemed more in themselves rather than customers. Most disappointing was several beers being sold out, less draft options than typical, and not even one decent IPA available. Didn't seem like the Benson we have known for a few years. read more

The party of 4 of us came here on a Saturday evening. It was quite crowded and we had about a 30 minute wait. When you're table is ready, they will call the provided cell number. When we were seated, We ordered the smoked salmon spread for an appetizer. It was just OK. They didn't give us enough bread, but the roasted garlic cloves were good that it came with and that made up for it. I ordered a side salad with the house vinaigrette. It was mostly spinach (a good thing!) with what seemed like house made croutons. For the main course, I ordered the black bean burger with fries. The burger was very good and served with a vegan ranch, pickles, onion and lettuce. Being the designated driver, I was limited in my beverage options. I met a friend here for dinner on a weeknight. When I arrived, she had been there for a few minutes and ordered a beer flight. I decided to also try one, but had to wait about 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and take my order. This was typical of the rest of the night. Our waitress was very friendly but the service was spotty and slow. I finished my water within the first 10 minutes (before we even ordered our food) and it wasn't refilled until 45 minutes later, right before we paid the check. Their beer flights allow you to choose four beers to try for $6. I think each one is about 3 ounces. I went with the Benson'ight (a black ale), the Karha-t (a spiced mild English ale), the Alt-er Ego (a German ale), and the Berliner Weiss (a sour ale). I liked all of them, except the sour ale, which my friend described as similar to if you dropped a sour patch kid in a Bud Light. The Benson'ight was probably my favorite, although the Karha-t had the most unique flavor. I really enjoyed the beer flight and thought it was a great price for what you get. It was Taco Tuesday on the night we visited, meaning they have several $2 tacos (duck, fish, lentils, steak, pulled pork, or chicken). My friend and I were torn between wanting to try the tacos and something off the regular menu, so we decided to each get a duck taco and split the Blue Cheese Burger (burger topped with balsamic bacon jam and blue cheese) with fries. The food came out in a reasonable time. The tacos were decent-sized for $2, but were pretty disappointing. The duck was dry and didn't have much flavor. The toppings helped a little bit but overall it was uninteresting. The burger made up for it, though. The burger was cooked perfectly and was oozing out flavorful jam and topped with a generous pile of blue cheese. The flavors were perfect together. The fries were ok. The prices are reasonable for the area and there are other menu items I want to try, so I will probably come back again, but I will stay away from the tacos in the future. In my continuous business trips to Omaha I have made it a point to not limit my dining options to the hotel restaurants. This was the place of choice last week. I come there on a Tuesday, also known as Taco Tuesdays!!!! I got me a flight of beers, by far my favorite was their coffee stout (I cannot remember the name, but it was to best one on the flight). I was really not that big of a fan of their 'Indian Chai' themed beer, but worth a try as one of your 6 in a flight..... For tacos, I had some fish and some duck tacos. I honestly can't say enough good things about Benson Brewery. I fell in love with this place the first time being here. So I'm not new to Benson by any means, but this is literally one of two places I just never walked in for some odd reason. I broke that trend the other night and brought a friend to have him try some local brews. So Mark was the bartender this night that I finally decided to stop in, and he is part of the reason I want to keep coming back. I felt like I knew him after only a couple minutes and even felt like I knew a couple other guys at the bar. I've never had that happen anywhere before except maybe one other bar that I will nto mention in this review (it's near Midtown by the way). He was extremely helpful and friendly, asked us what kind of beer we usually drink, and had great suggestions. So I tried their "Waves of Wheat" American wheat beer first. I'm a huge wheat beer fan and they've always been my favorites, especially Boulevard. People laugh because it's so mainstream, but there's a reason Boulevard became so popular and sells so much of it....But that's for another time.....Benson Brewery's wheat beer is now the second beer to tie my love for Boulevard. My other being from a local brewery also. It was such a fantastic beer I'm very surprised I haven't seen their stuff around the Metro. The second beer I tried was their stout (I forget the name!) but it was also very good. One of the best coffee cream stouts I've ever had. The food. Oh. My. God. I didn't expect that much from them to be honest. I already ate dinner before I went but my friend ordered the bison brewery burger and fries. I will honestly say this is probably one of the greatest burgers I've ever tasted. I only had a small bite but it blew 99% of the others I've had out of the water, save for EK Peppermill in Valentine, and the Black Iron Grill in Mound City, MO. The fries were absolutely perfect with no need for sauce or ketchup but their "Bastard Sauce" made it even more delectible. Went here with four friends and my wife due to the good write up in the paper. Verified it on yelp of course! I had the Mac & Cheese and my wife had the Fish & Chips. Being it was late Sunday they were out of some stuff, but it wasn't a problem with the other sections available. And both our meals were excellent. The Mac & Cheese was even better than at Marks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room for all six of us together in the main room so we ended up in the east room. It was quite a bit darker, and didn't have the atmosphere of the main room, which was something we had been looking forward to. We started off with waters and the Classic Poutine appetizer. They came quickly and the appetizer was a really nice start to the meal except for a little too much gravy. We then ordered drinks while we still perused the menu. For a brewery I was surprised at how long the drinks took to get to the table. But they were all delicious, so no harm done. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and took home what couldn't be ingested there. We we left I tried to leave via the signed EXIT door right next to our table, but it was locked. This is my new favorite place to go to in Benson! The food is absolutely fantastic and very fresh and I love all of their different cocktails. I'm not kidding when I say the food is fantastic ... this is home to THE BEST BURGER I have EVER eaten. EVER. Bar none. Absolutely orgasmic. That's the best way I can describe it. Their "Majinola Farm Wagyn Burger" is so delectable with their tart apple bacon jam, (aka, crack) and the perfectly fried pickle on top of some gooey fresh mozzarella ... it was so good that I had TWO! The bison version of this burger was my favorite, but the beef burger cooked medium as per the chef's suggestion was also spot on. It's really hard to top bison meat in my book. My favorite cocktail is the "Benson Tom Collins", made with lavender infused gin, lemon syrup and soda. Absolutely fantastic. I'd come here just for this drink before I discovered the burger : ) The Benson Brewery has also done something that no other place, nor bar has done before ... made me want to try a beer! Today I tried the "Bancreagie Peated Scotch Ale," which had a hoppy start, but the ending result was more smokey. Towards the bottom of the glass, it was smokey all the way through, like a scotch ... which is probably why I liked it so much : ) All in all, this place has a great atmosphere, great, helpful and friendly staff and I can't say enough about their food and drinks. I've always been greeted warmly and have always felt like everyone appreciated my business and really wanted to know my opinion of their food. They're doing something great here and they really understand flavors and how things are supposed to meld together to taste truly fantastic. Made a quick lunch stop on the way to the airport, and we were not disappointed in the least! Bartender welcomed us and was very friendly and helpful at explaining recent changes to the taps and they switched our beers. We did two flights (4 pours for $6) to try everything, and she threw in the ninth beer they had on tap as an extra. Favorite beers had to be the Karha-T - just a very unique, creative brew - and the Om-aha IPA. The Crimson & Clover was nice, and the Benson'ight was light in character for a black ale. The Brewers Duet was also a nice contribution - using cold pressed coffee. Wish they still had the Maibock and the Berliner on - those would have been nice to try. Now, the food. There is a small kitchen next to the bar, and once again, the food did not disappoint. We were blown away by the charred wings with hot sauce - the grill really provided a wonderful taste, and the hot sauce was a subtle but delicious heat. A heaping portion for less than $10 - probably some of the tastiest wings I have had anywhere. We also split the mac and cheese with bacon - absolutely wonderful, with a unique flavor coming from the gouda. All in all, a great last taste (and sip) of Omaha before heading home. Go to Benson Brewery for the food, it's pretty good. But the beer is not. Apparently the chai brew is popular but I don't like it. The coffee stout is decent but not awesome. Many of the beers have a lower abv than I like. Hopefully the new brewer will make changes that draw me in more often. We did try the soft pretzel sticks, which came with an amazing Gouda cheese sauce...highly, highly recommend. Sooo good. Their beers were decent. I got a flight - particularly enjoyed the Benson Blonde - very drinkable and went down easy. I also liked the Karha-T, which is a chai tea inspired beer. Definitely different, but I still enjoyed it. We weren't able to sit in their beer garden but it looked like a great spot to be on nice afternoon. We made a reservation online with OpenTable, so we were pretty frustrated when we arrived at the restaurant and were told they stopped taking reservations a while ago. We were told the wait would be 30-40 minutes. We didn't want to wait that long and luckily were able to get right in at another restaurant in the area. While visiting Omaha, we had dinner here with our local friend. He eats here all the time and we were not disappointed! They had a fun beer and cocktail list (my husband and friend both had the Velveteen beer and I had a beer cocktail). The seitan vegan wings were AMAZING. We are not vegans and eat plenty of meat, but I would order these again and again. I had the burger special, which came with fries and both were great. We had a reservation for 10 people at 5:30. When we all arrived they said they didn't take reservations. When we showed the girl our confirmation email, she seated us next to the cold, 1/2 open garage door. Then proceeded to leave us there for over an hour without drinks or even really touching base with us. My wife and I decided to have a spur-of-the-moment date night. We don't get a ton of time away from our daughters, so this was something special. Sadly, we had to spend it on a meal that completely lacked-luster. The burger, the special on the menu, was cold. It has avocado, bacon, and grilled tomatoes and the whole thing was cold. What? I have heard great things and then to bite into a cold burger was so disappointing. The server was very nice, but not very attentive. My wife had to go and ask for mayo and ketchup, it took her a while to bring everything if we asked for something more, and didn't check on the meal. The menu was problematic. They were out of 4 items on the menu, and the menu didn't have the right wine selections... they changed the menu without changing the physical copy. How do we order if what we are ordering is no longer present? This was a bit confusing. What was the most frustrating was I searched "Passport restaurants" in Yelp and the restaurant popped up. we went and they said the new owners no longer accept it. If you are not a passport restaurant, don't have it in your Yelp search listings. It is very misleading. The atmosphere was cool. Man, we were really looking forward to eating here with such good reviews. I really wish the cold burger hadn't happened. We were originally under the impression that this place was strictly a bar, but when we stopped by recently, were pleased to find out it is a restaurant as well. We were lucky enough to coincidentally be there on their first birthday, so they had some special celebrations going on. We got a couple of appetizers - bread with beer cheese dip and Swedish meatballs both of which were amazing! Our waitress talked us into the Swedish meatballs, which we were very thankful for. The drinks were pretty good, I got the honey nut brown, which was a beer cocktail, something I haven't sampled too much of in the past, I appreciated the uniqueness. Writing this review as I sit here in the restaurant. Service is not prime. Took 12 minutes to be greeted and about an equal amount of time to actually receive my drinks after ordering. Beer is okay. IPA is mild, spiced English beer is interesting flavor. Holy moley screwed up the appetizer too, took 20 minutes to get my appetizer, IPA Jalapeño Hummus, wife says it is good, I think bread flavor overpowers hummus flavor. Received food 50 minutes after ordering, fish and chips were pretty good, use Mahi Mahi. Pork belly sandwich was flavorful very small though. As an avid meat lover, I have to admit that the tofu put my pulled pork sandwich to shame (although it was still good). The beer selection is also quite good. We got two flights ($6 each) so we were able to sample 8 total. Highlights were the Karha-t (how do you pronounce that? tastes so much like Chai!), the Ohm-aha IPA (just straight delicious hops without too much bitterness), and the Brewer's Duet (like eating a loaf of bread with coffee. Wanted to go to a brewery with some friends so we went to Yelp to decide between Benson Brewery or Infusion Brewery...and we chose Benson based on the great food pics from other Yelpers. The place had indoor and outdoor seating and had a nice cozy vibe. We sat inside but still had the open air to our backs, which was nice. I split the Brewery Burger with a friend and they actually brought it out on 2 plates...with the burger cut in half and the fries portioned out on both plates. So that was a nice touch! The burger tasted very fresh and had lots of flavor, but the fries were a bit of a let down. I would say about 2/3 of the fries were like 2 inches in length. It was like I got the bad batch of fries that nobody wanted. They tasted good but I didn't enjoy eating short fries and they were kinda cold when they came out. My friends also got fries and alot of them were short fries too. I also tried the bone in wings and poutine and they were both super tasty. I also got a flight of beers to try ($7.50). I got the Benson Blonde, IPA, Coffee Stout, and a Wheat Beer. I enjoyed them all except the IPA which I blame myself since I'm not a fan of IPAs but decided to venture out and live life a little. Thr IPA was 7%in alcohol content so I did get my alcohols worth! Overall this place is a fun place to go eat and drink with friends before hitting up another bar. Came out here with a group of friends from Iowa on Saturday night. This area had many bars including this one. I always like a brewery where you can get some drinks and eat some food. This place did the trick and it did it well. First thing I noticed was a small sitting area outside that flowed inside with a huge opening to make it feel like you were part of the whole street atmosphere as well. There is a nice bar right when you walk in with bar sitting as an option. We ordered different dishes and every single one was very tasty and presented like something you would get at a fancy restaurant but we got it on a beer budget. Portions were great also. We got a sampler beer deal that came with four small beers at $7.50 which was very reasonable because it was equivalent to 2 beers. I liked some of the beers more than others because some had way more flavor than I can handle. So I was happy with a sampler. Overall I enjoyed this place very much and wish we had one in Iowa so I could try some other dishes and have a chill place to go to for beers and delicious food. read more

I had to pay $14.00 for mac and cheese that I did not eat. The rest of our party had decent food but when they refused to refund the food that I could not eat - it ruined the whole experience. It would have been different if I had eaten half of it and then asked for a refund but I took 2 bites. We will not go back. There are too many other good restaurants in Omaha to have an experience like that. read more

We have a winner here! Benson, after yesterday's appearance at the Hop Cup has my new favorite IPA! Using an old recipe tried and true at the brewery here locally they added an amazing local hop infusion with a device straight out of the future borrowed from another industry favorite, Dogfish Head. There were some great competitors there with their own variety of adjustments to the old IPA, from West Coast high IBU style beers to an amber Interstellar IIPA by Soaring Wings from Springfield. Ok wow no one ever told me that, in Omaha, some of the best salads are found at A BREWERY!!!! Shocker. Really. I am shocked, and still remain disappointed in the overall salad scene in Omaha; however, Benson Brewery is not to blame for my disappointment because their salads are amazing!!! I had the quinoa salad, and my sister had the kale salad. Both were so fresh and delicious. Big fan. Also, the waitress was very on top of refilling our waters, which I really appreciated!!! BB has become our go-to restaurant. Fun Benson location, cool environment, great beers and tasty sandwiches and salads. The kale salad with chicken or salmon tops the list. The wedge earns a close second. Fries taste fabulous. Share them with your table (or your neighbors) to avoid long term cardiological damage. Food prep includes a healthy dose of salt, so if that bugs you, ask them up front to lay off. Regarding drinks, beer is the specialty here, as they brew it all in back. One that I really like is the Kara-Te (sp?) with a shot of whiskey. They call this the Benson Boilermaker. While no longer on the menu, most bar staff does remember the recipe. One of these should last hours, or at least the buzz should anyway... Lastly, if you're a guy seeking work here, grow a beard before applying. From the looks of the male staffers, it's a requirement. read more
