I need glasses for distance. I have been going to Dr. Mitchell's office for years now. They have friendly staff. However, I feel the service has gone downhill over the years. I felt rushed during my last appointment and also waited quite awhile to be seen. I was told my glasses would be ready in two weeks. I never received a call or an email or any communication whatsoever. I called today (7th) and my glasses have been ready since the 2nd. I was told they called me on the 2nd. I looked at my phone and no history of a missed call. I came in today to pick up my glasses. One of the staff members adjusted my glasses. I looked in the mirror and noticed they were a bit crooked and was lower on the left side. The right side aligned with my eyebrows and the left was well below my eyebrows. I asked if she can fix it. She told me, "No, that's how they're supposed to be because your ears aren't even." I even laid the glasses on the table to show her how uneven it was. She insisted it was my ears. Wow!!! Not only was the comment rude but her facial expression of annoyance said it all. I left the office quite perturbed. All my previous glasses were even and they laid on the table evenly. I went back to work and asked a few co-workers opinion. They all agreed with me that the glasses were uneven. Because of this experience, I don't even want to go back to this office to get my glasses adjusted. I'll see if I can adjust them myself. They just lost a customer and any future referrals! UPDATE (11/8): I spoke to Nathan, the Manager and he was very apologetic. He was more than willing to make things right for me. I have to give him Kudos for following through on my complaint. However, I'm not sure if I want to go back to their office. The experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

i usually go to another eye care doctor but they are closed for construction so i call this doctor and i tell them my situation that i am having left eye issue an it is sensitive to light and if i could get in to see someone today (monday) and they say they have no opening today and that the earliest they can see me is Thursday. very unexceptable. do not go here i would give not stars if i could read more

Okay, mea culpa - my eyes no longer allow me to focus on small print. The fancy technical term is presbyopia - not to be confused with Presbyterian - although with similar roots the ideas just keep coming. Anyway, an Ev1l H4x0r who cannot read an xterm (or a book) is not going to be much of a threat, so I booked myself down 108th to this optometrist for my very first pair of eyeglasses. Now, I have *never* been to an eye doctor before. I have always had perfect vision. I kind of knew I was due for this; however I had no idea what to expect. The people at Benson were sympathetic, which helped my ego a lot. The visit started by going through the standard eye exam - cover your left eye and read the line etc. Next I got to go sit in the big chair to have my prescription determined. Dr. Alan Bernstein, OD, was the optometrist who examined me. He is a mature gentleman who exudes a great deal of confidence, and who explained everything to me before things got underway. Drops were put in my eyes to dilate them (don't believe what they tell you - those bastards sting). Then we went through the regimen of the phoropter - the large machine that looks like a prop from one of the Alien films. Very quickly Dr. Bernstein had diagnosed exactly what my eyes needed, and it was out of the exam room to the front office to pick frames for my new glasses. Okay, now for the really scary part, because when it comes to style and taste in eye wear, I am extremely lacking in ... oh forget it - I suck! I can barely dress myself. So I had to fall back on the staff to help me pick out some eye wear that would not make me look like I was auditioning for the part of Clark Kent. Fortunately the ladies who work the front office have experience and taste, and they helped me to pick out the right frames (and they were decently priced too). Finally, I got my set of paper shades (to wear until the effect of the eye drops wore off) and instructions about when my glasses would be ready, and I headed back to work. Two days later I picked up and paid for my brand new glasses (which I am wearing as I type this). The good news is that now I can read what I am typing without squinting and shifting my head (I have a slight astigmatism). The really good news is that everyone I know who has taste told me that the glasses look really good. If you're in the South Sound and you're looking for a place that does eyes and does them well, I recommend Benson Vision Source. They're a small boutique place (unlike Pearle and Bausch and Lomb) with a knowledgeable staff (with good taste) who will make your experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible. They take all kinds of insurance, and the first question out of their mouth is not "what is your Social Security number?" read more

Went there for an eye exam a pair of glasses and questions about my dry eyes, the doctor gave me sample drops to try and it didn't work, which was fine I didn't really expect magic from sample drops. The whole experience was ok until bills started to show up, with insurance everything added up to around $600. This was a lot more then what I was expecting for a pair of glasses (high end lens but cheapest frame) and 2 fifteen min visits. I call them 3 Friday's ago to ask about the high bill they said they would call me back, I ended up calling them last Friday and they said they call me back yesterday, When I didn't get a call back again I call them today, that's when they told me there's nothing they could to do, so I just paid them over the phone to get this over with. Long time patient with clinic, but I am deducting stars due to the lack of response to voice, email or phone calls regarding refills on prescription. No follow up with patient to let them know that the prescription refill has been taken care of. Pharmacy has no record of refill and several days have passed since request has been made. This has been the second time and I am losing my patience and they will be losing a patient if something is not done to improve customer service. This is the only complaint of a good business, but geez, get with the program...it isn't that damn hard to call in a prescription in 24 hours. read more

Never a good experience when I come here I've been by like 4 time now... first time for exam which they charged me out of pocket something about my insurance but I never had this issue before so I thought it was odd, second time I came to pick up my contacts that I ordered and I had allowance to cover it under my insurance they again tried to say it doesn't cover all of it which is again weird cause I once again always used my allowance to get my contacts and never had to come out of pocket for it I refused to give them money I told them to look into it then give me a call cause I contacted the vision source I went to last time and they said my insurance had covered it all. They called me back and said I should be covered come on in and grab my contacts I get there and the lady that worked up front said I had to pay for it. I said no I'm not paying for it the lady called me and said I'm covered she looked at me confused so I said never mind and left l. This last time about 2 months later I decided I'm going to just have my allowance I have on file take care of one of the boxes so I can have some back up contacts I have none and need them cause I'm getting ready to move out of town and want to make sure my vision is good for this long drive I'm about to do and they once again hit me with something else that puts a bad experience here by telling me they no longer take my insurance. I catch my self very irritated when I come here. This is the worse vision place I've ever been to. I think they only want money and don't care about anyone that comes in . I'm not one to complain about businesses like this but I will never step foot in this office again! read more

I am a new patient and I came in today for a check up. Everyone is very friendly and I really felt comfortable there. The Doctor was very easy to talk to, explained me multiple options and helped me through the process. There was only two pages of paperwork to fill out, mostly yes and no questions. Receptionist was very sweet and offered me water as soon as she handed me the form to fill out. Thank heavens because it's 82 outside. What I really impressed me the most was the technology they have. I can see detailed photos of the inside of my eyes! The Doctor explained me how can he tell if my eyes are healthy and talked about what are the signs of common eye deceases. I like it when people explain me what is happening doing my check ups, makes me feel good to be informed. I highly recommend this place to everyone. UPDATE: after reading another review I decided to update my review. Hey! So I read your review and I totally see your point. On the other hand, I had the same thing happen to me with every clinic I've visited and not until 5 years later I found out why things were that way. What I found out is that like with any new patient, doctors have to do an evaluation. I have paid out of pocket with other clinics for the initial exam and ouch! This time I didn't have to tho. But comparing all experiences, these guys have the latest in technology to be honest. You wouldn't expect it by seeing the outside of the clinic :) or any clinic for that matter. So, that was to me worth every penny they billed the insurance. In this case I was happy they billed me because I really think it was worth it. They exams at wallymart not so much! Now, I have sort of a unique prescription so trial lenses take 4-6 weeks with all clinics I've been to and then contacts take 3 or so weeks to get in. That is industry standard. Now, if you needed a rush on contacts with this clinic or any other I recommend letting them know ahead of time and emphasizing how important it is :) Because of the many measurements mine take which I had no idea until now, it's normal that they don't have them in stock or anything like that. I received no freebies, which totally is NOT important as I HAVE received by far the best vision care in my 23 years of wearing glasses. I have NEVER had an examination as detailed as Dr. Thomas Mitchell has provided and I have some vision issues that need high-end expertise. I searched (here in Yelp) for "Vision Source" in Kent WA and did NOT find Dr Mitchell; which was a bit shocking because, frankly, if he isn't in the top-5, there is something wrong... I have used MANY of the eye care providers in my town. The care of my previous providers was okay, but NOT even close to what you will get from Dr. Mitchell and his staff. AND, I continue to be completely shocked by my new tri-focal progressive transition glasses. Previously, I had three different pairs of eyeglasses, for work, for reading, and prescription sunglasses. I have one pair now and I wear these all day as I work on a computer. I never had anything like that in my previous 20+ years. And, I never had a doctor perform such a through exam and spend so much time with me. AMAZING! read more

I came to this place as a new customer and while the Dr was nice {the only thing saving them from a no star review} they really failed on the back end. First it took over a month to get my contacts. Why did it take a month? I don't know, they never gave me a reason. When the contacts finally came in there was no fitting or anything, they just handed them to me in a bag and sent me on my way. Then I got the bill from my insurance, apparently they billed my insurance over $600.00 dollars for a routine eye exam and contacts ??!!!!! I can get my contacts anywhere else for $68-75 depending on where I go. And I have NEVER seen an office visit cost more then a $100 dollars. They told me the whole time that they had talked to my insurance and confirmed I was covered for everything. I even told them that if my insurance wasn't going to cover/pay certain parts then don't do it and was told that they already talked to my insurance and the insurance was paying all of it. These people will over-bill your insurance {its Legally called Predatory Billing and Insurance Fraud people}, try and stick YOU with the whole bill and THEN be extremely rude to you when you try and call to get things corrected. I will NEVER return to this place and you should consider never going there also. Terrible, Terrible service. Better Business Bureau, here I come!! read more
