We've been here about 1/2 dozen times now and really want to love BG but the food is very average. The decor is great, the place settings are lovely, but the wine glasses are thick and stemless - they really spoil the effect. There are no stand out dishes on the menu. It's quite loud and the lighting effect is cold and depressing somehow. Service is also cold and the food lukewarm. BG is fine for drinks and apps but nothing special for dinner. read more

Great happy hour! All wine was $2 off, and there were select appetizers for $5. My friend and I split the buffalo chicken wrap, which was HUGE and an insane deal for the price. It was actually two wraps cut in half! We also got the pinconning fondue, which was actually just soft pretzels with a cheese dip and a mustard dip. Both were very good though. Great meal, and only $10 a person! We'll definitely be back. read more

I've been back about 4 times since my first review in 2017 in which I gave BG 3 stars. Since then, I still haven't found anything that pushes it to that 4 star level. The restaurant, food, service, etc. isn't bad, but there always seems to be something that makes it fall a bit short. When I go here for dinner, it's for an adults' night out. So I'm looking for something that makes me confident that I picked the right place so my friends have a good experience too. But it never happens. Case in point....my Oct 9, 2020 visit. We had a reservation. (I love that they take reservations, even though it is just for inside.) I checked in and was asked, "Do you want to sit inside or outside." I said "Inside". We were seated in the newly constructed 4 season patio. The garage-style doors were up, but the weather wasn't too cold. I don't know if this was consider inside or outside, but we stayed there. So whatever...all was fine. (In fact, the 4 season patio is a great addition.) It took about 10 minutes for us to be greeted, and it wasn't even our waitress. Just someone who saw we were being overlooked and thought they should acknowledge us. Eventually, things got rolling and our drink orders were taken and delivered by our waitress. As a whole though, the service experience was rather disjointed, and I felt like there was a lot of confusion and chaos on the staff's part which made us sitting there feel a bit anxious or unnerved. Maybe we were all just packed in too tightly. Even walking to the restrooms, you could hear a bunch of commotion coming from the kitchen. My friend said it sounded like an episode of "Hell's Kitchen" with Gordon Ramsay. About the food: --My wife and friend both got the ravioli (menu special). They both enjoyed it and felt like they made an excellent choice. --I ordered the fish tacos (menu special). When I asked what kind of fish it was, the waitress told me and then described it to be similar to a mahi mahi. The fish tacos were ok / mediocre. I wouldn't recommend them because the fish was mushy, unlike a firmer mahi mahi that I was expecting. --My other friend ordered the steak (also on the menu special). He ordered it medium rare, but it came out with no red or pink. (More of a medium.) When you are out with friends, you don't want to send it back to be remade: either the table is upset having to wait to start with their meal, or they feel guilty for starting without you. So he ate it, but was unimpressed. (My 2017 review also noted that the steak was overcooked....and tough.) --Dessert: The ladies got creme brule and said it was good. The guys got the "Molten Carrot Cake". As we told the waitress (and manager when he came over), it was horrible. The cake was very dry and lacked sweetness; the white chocolate cream sauce tasted of sour milk (with not even a discernible hint of white chocolate). Overall, it was a small flavorless bundt cake with some milky cream sauce and leathery carrot strips on top. The manager apologized and took it off the bill. I'm really not a food snob, but the experience once again fell short of what should be a nice evening out. BG is 10 minutes from my house and my friends' house. We want to be fans, but the only decent experience we've had is once during happy hour. Come on BG...we're rooting for you to get to the next level. read more

Me and my friends were so excited to go to this lovely establishment since we had not gotten together since November. We looked it up and it had great reviews.... little did we know we would be very, very unhappy with the outcome.... we had a reservation for 7:00 and we stood there for 45 minutes. We saw multiple couples and groups get sat before us. Groups who got there after us.... Finally at 7:50 we got approached by a co owner saying our table would be ready in a couple minutes... he offered us free apps but meanwhile they were preparing for a 8 top that wasn't even there yet... Needless to say after 50 min of waiting, (and yes we timed it), we left. I definitely will not be returning anytime soon. Please get it together guys. read more

Actually I would give -5 stars if possible. Arrived at 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm reservation. Seated immediately at a nice table outside. Proceeded to wait 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table with even a glass of water- and that was after going back to the hostess stand twice. Party of 4 gets seated directly next to us and in less than a minute they are served water and drink orders are taken. We say to server we've been waiting 15 minutes. She says "Your table is not in my section ( 1 table over?)." Got up and walked out. First time there is also our last time and will make my best effort to let as many people know about my experience as possible. Great example of how not to run a restaurant. read more

Generally not a bad place. Have eaten here a handful of times. Limited menu for me (I'm a fussy eater) but my girlfriend likes their salads. if it wasn't so convenient to stop while I'm passing by I probably wouldn't eat here. Nothing bad, just nothing worth going out of my way for. read more

Went to the Benstein Grille for dinner with my wife on April 30, 2020. It was a special occasion for us, and we decided to try the Benstein Grille based on the great reviews. First off, the food was good to great. Crab Rangoon appetizer was great. Grilled shrimp and pork chop dinner was good (but didn't blow us away). Toffee bundt cake for dessert was great. The reason for 2 stars... from the moment we ordered our cocktails until we left, it felt like we were on 'fast forward'. Salads showed up before we had barely touched the appetizer. Entrees showed up after barely 2 bites of salad. The bill showed up before we had a chance to order dessert or even consider a nightcap. I had to literally shout down the server to drag her back to the table so we could order dessert. read more

Things started off slow, it took a while for our whole table to get drinks and we had a fussy baby I wanted to put in her food order so her food would come out early but it took a while before our waitress came back. However, while the baby was having a fit a gentleman from the kitchen care out and offered to bring some fries. He was back in less than a minute with a basket of hot, fresh fries for the kids. They began to happily eat and then things started going smoother. The food was absolutely delicious!!! I could. It stop eating! Ordered macaroni and cheese and a flatbread pizza for the kids, Mac n cheese was homemade and amazing, pizza was huge for a kids size and my niece ate half the pizza! If you come and it starts off slow they will wow you over with the food!! Worth the wait!! Would return again any time I'm in the area!! read more

What a shame, started out with such promise, an owner on site, apparently no more. After 5 visits, 2 dinner, 3 lunch, this is such a disappointment. Today, in the middle of the Lions game, all high tops vacant and dirty, sat at bar. The staff is untrained and negligent....absolutely terrible. Very disappointed. They didn't honor our party of four reservation that was booked a week in advance. I even double confirmed the night before. The owner was disingenuous in his apology. I understand and appreciate trying to run a business and the necessity to fill tables. But, throwing the young ladies booking the reservation under the table is weak! Tucked away down a residential, not-quite-so country road you have this gem... next to a cemetery. Lol. Drove smooth past it on accident, but we found it. It's a stand-alone building with its own parking lot surrounded by many tall trees. The place gives a really upscale feel without the price! Huge windows illuminate the inside as you sit underneath the exposed ventilation pipes and aluminum ceiling with moderate decorations surrounding the wood paneled walls. Our waitress Delia was so bubbly, friendly and helpful. Still a little full from lunch earlier I decided to opt for a "lighter' dinner than I would normally get. I went with the Cordon Bleu Chicken Stack. It's grilled chicken layered with Dearborn Brand ham, Swiss cheese, a bleu cheese spread served with buttermilk whipped potatoes and chef's seasonal vegetables. I substituted the potatoes for asparagus and it was no extra charge. (Huge points from me for this.) The food was absolutely delicious. Filling, yet not too stuffed, full of flavor and not too messy. We came here on a Sat night with our kids. The wait staff was great. But the food.....that's a different story. First we ordered the calamari appetizer which was quite small. The sauce was not a good accompaniment with it at all. My husband got the lamb chops, I got the benstein grill salad with salmon. Both entrees were totally bland. Absolutely zero flavor. My husbands meal was pretty small. My salmon was nasty and the salad didn't go well with the salmon or the dressing. I was starving and still couldn't eat it. My daughter ordered the steak tips. Nothing special. Just grilled beef. My boys got the chicken tenders and burger from the kids menu. Burger was not the worst he's had but certainly not the best. Chicken tenders reminded me of Tyson chicken tenders. We ended up spending about $100 but left hungry and unsatisfied. It's too bad, I really was hoping to like this place since it's a local spot. Had it not been for our pleasant server, i would give this place Zero stars. read more

The food and service is top notch! The decor, ambiance, and music selection is spot on. The pictures of actors are a nice touch. I noticed a great selection of Michigan craft beers on tap as well. I cant say enough about the food. Its freshly prepared every time and the quality reality shines through. The service really is equally as good as beverages remain full and any extra needs are met quickly. I can't praise Benstein Grille enough. You wont be disappointed! read more

If you're gluten free you HAVE to eat here! They have an extensive menu, and it's delicious food. They also offer gluten free bread as a starter and it tastes amazing. I have come here several times since they have opened, and I have enjoyed every visit so far. I came in a week ago, and I ordered the Mystic Carbonara, and it was absolutely delicious. Every entree also comes with some bread which always has been great. I have also ordered in the past the Benstein Lobster Mac and the 2435 Chicken Sandwich, and those have always been great as well. The service has always been great and very professional. I agree with many of the reviewers that the prices are on the higher side, however, the portions are very generous to where I never leave hungry. I will definitely continue to eat here! read more

Biggest complaint is the wait staff - all 3 times we had to wait in excess of 35 minutes, the first time we were told the cook had called in sick, second time were told the some scheduled wait staff called in sick and the third (this takes the prize) was due to fact that they didn't anticipate the number of customers for that evening! read more

My wife and I ditched the kids and decided to hit up Benstein Grille since we live close but somehow never made our way in. First off, our waitress was amazing. Probably the best we ever had anywhere. We wanted to tell a manager but never found a good opportunity. Wish I had her name because she deserves recognition. Anyway, the food blew us both away. We got an appetizer that was almost like a bbq pizza, but with a super thin crust. Really really good. Honestly that could have been a meal and I'd be satisfied. My wife got the filet mignon cooked medium, and from the bite I tried, it was cooked to perfection. Her potatoes were unbelievable too. I got some type of burger with steak strips on it. Not sure what cut of steak it was, but it was incredibly tender and delicious. The fries that came with my burger were fantastic too, not your generic fries that often come with burgers. This may be our new favorite restaurant. It seemed a little pricey at the time, but looking back, we did order a lot of food, and filet mignon is never cheap. read more

The food here is always great. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a decent sized menu. I believe they change up their menu quite often so there is a good variety. They have great flatbreads. We normally order the Mediterranean flatbread which is reallly good and filled with toppings. Lamb chops are also really good here. Would reccomend this restaurant. read more

Came here for my husband's birthday. The food was pretty good. I ordered the lamb chops and he got the land & sea. Zip sauce was awesome. Everything was cooked perfectly. We had a large group of 16 and unfortunately our server wasn't very attentive. We waited quite some time to order food and to place second drink orders. Other than that, everything was priced well and seasoned well. The manager was extremely nice and offered a few comp items! We'll be back to check out happy hour and brunch. read more

Ridiculously overpriced for a grossly underwhelming meal. My shrimp pasta was served cold and the noodles mushed together, sent it back and they remade it still with zero flavor. This was our Father's Day dinner and we wanted to go someplace new. We found this place via Yelp and was excited after reading the reviews. All was well until our food arrived. I ordered the salmon dinner with the sweet potato hash. The sauce and hash was overly salty. I couldn't eat it at all. I did request the hash to be recooked but without the high salt content. I was told that wasn't possible because the hash was prepared earlier during the day. My daughter had a burger but the slaw was also too salty. No one from management came to our table to address the salty food. This was suppose to be a great dinner to celebrate Father's Day. My wife and I came for St. Pats day, 03/17/2023, service was great , got seated right away, , had a great waitperson Izzy!, Ordered corned beef and cabbage as the special this day!, Coming from the food business I can honestly say this was the worst, Cornrf Beef and Cabage Combo I have ever had in my 69 years of life. I would call it a Dogs breakfast, that would be kind, it appears someone did not order right or cook in advance enough, the Corned Beef tasted like it just came out of the bag and was microwaved before being plated. the fat was at least 1/4 to 3/8 of inch around the meat , never having been rendered. The cabbage was tasteless being slopped on the plate like we waiting in line in Alcatraz. Typically you would expect Carrots, Celery, red Skin Potatoes. The so called soda bread tasted and looked like , ( I am not sure) a Ninth grade Volcano science experiment. We went on Valentine's day, so the place was packed. Which is to be expected. The downside, was that maybe they hadn't realized how packed they would be, because they seemed to have a real problem with service. We started service with a couple cocktails. The Old Fashioned mix was a little off -- maybe a bit too much on the bitters or maybe it was the Sazarac Rye they used -- it had an unusually bad aftertaste, which means the bartender was a little heavy on something. The Tito's mule was good, however. Then came the appetizer. The Pretzel fondue was more like a really good pretzel bread with a sub-par cheese dip, rather than a legitimate fondue. The mustard was really more of a barbeque sauce. Overall, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. Appetizer and drinks took about the first hour of a nearly three hour dinner. Next, we placed our orders for the Land and Sea (medium for the steak) and the 8 oz filet, medium-rare. About an hour later, they try bringing us out Lamb, three times, as well as a medium filet. We have to constantly turn it away because it's not what we ordered. Eventually, they get it right, 15 minutes later. At this point we're a little over 2 hours into the meal and we're starving. For the Land and Sea, the scallops were great, but the shrimp were cold. The steak was underdone, a solid rare. And the peppercorns were just caked on (not listed on the menu), absolutely ruining a perfectly fine cut of steak. Overall, a solid 2/5 for effort. I wound up lending some of the zip sauce from my disaster of a plate to my wife to help make it palatable. The filet, however, was an uneven medium to well -- warm, thin layer of pink on one side and full grey on the other. However, it had a great crust on it, so I forgive them their trespass. I was able to mop up some zip sauce and make it work. Again, a 2/5. Bringing this to the owners attention garnered us a free dessert. Being nice, I said I would take two (obviously I would pay for one, I was intending on that regardless). This, once again, took half an hour to bring out. Frankly, it's not like they were cooking this to order, this was all prepped: I ordered an unusual carrot cake, and my wife a classic creme brulee. They, unfortunately, don't get the recipe for creme brulee correct and use either the wrong size of egg or simply too many, and it comes out more... uhh... eggy-tasting, lumpy and inconsistent than it should. And the taste is "meh" at best. Wound up eating half of it and taking the rest home for my teenager who will eat anything (she was happy with it, though). The carrot cake lava cake was odd, it has fried carrot shavings with brown sugar and cinnamon on them decorating the top of a carrot cake covered with white chocolate sauce. Not bad. Definitely an interesting combination. The fruit on the side was a little unnecessary and didn't compliment the dish, but it was overall a decent dessert. Actually, the more I write, the more frustrated I get with this experience. They could have a really good little restaurant here, but they really botched this. Maybe they need a better chef in the kitchen, but honestly, the front of house was terrible. Our waiter, I really wanted to like him. He was a nice person. He just shouldn't be a waiter, or maybe it's that they didn't hire enough wait staff or have enough willing to work on Valentine's Day. Regardless, honestly, if the owner reads this, I really do wish you good luck -- you seem super nice and I wish I could be happier with my experience. You are really close to having a top notch restaurant. If you take a few steps to improve the consistency of the bartending, the quality of the cooking (if you have a decent cut of meat, don't hide it with half a bottle of whole peppercorns!), and definitely focus on the service, you could really make it a great experience for people every time, and have all the success in the world. read more
