Always pleased with our experience. We had a a little 10-15 minute wait for our party of 6 at 7 PM this Saturday. Not a big deal. Atmosphere was lively. Food has always impressed us and frankly it's what brings us back for an hour drive to the restaurant. Pretzel with cheese fondue and calamari were both perfectly executed apps. Steak tip pasta is a winner. Kids loved their sliders, pasta and flatbread pizza. Lava cake a la mode was decadent. Dad loved the Domaine Manhattan and mom equally loved the pear martini. Glenn (manager/owner?) asked if we were enjoying ourselves - no complaints. But in actuality we were loving it. One of our top 3 restaurants and well worth the hour drive. read more

Since we moved to Wixom in 2019 have been going to Benstein Grille. Food has always been good. Steaks, pasta and salads. Craft Beer selection is very good, always a priority for me. Highly recommend. read more

First time visitor, I was left with a positive impression. Crab rangoon appetizer was very good. Smoked chicken wing had a very good flavor but would be much improved by a bit of sauce as they were very dry. I had the chicken cordon blue and it was quite good. Others in our party said that their surf and turf was good and the beef tips get a thumbs up. The fourth memeber, a light eater, had the french onion soup which she said was tasty but lacked melted cheese which is kinda' the point of that soup. Ambiance is fantastic. Definitely a four star restaurant in that sense. The service is good, but I've found the food to be hit or miss. The quality of ingredients is always top notch, but I've had a few menu items that were just a bit bland. A good place for a date, but I wouldn't put it in my regular lineup. read more

Fantastic ambiance, attentive staff, but tasteless and low-quality​ food. I came here last month with a party of 16 to celebrate a birthday party with family. To start off, we were very impressed with how patient our waitress was-- it is not easy to navigate so many different customers, let alone when most of the party are not native English speakers! I truly applaud her. The decor at this restaurant is also hilarious and took me a second to understand before I burst out laughing. The walls are covered in different "Bens" and "Steins"! What really changed the scope of the evening, though, was how disappointed almost everyone at the table was with the quality of the dishes. About 4 of us ordered the perch off of the specials menu... a big mistake. Not only was the portion size extremely frugal, but we couldn't even finish the fish because of how bad it tasted. I'm not exaggerating​ when I say that I've never been more disappointed​ in a restaurant quality meal. It was disheartening and put a damper on our moods, especially since it cost nearly $20 a piece. Overall, the ambiance and staff are fantastic, but I'd highly encourage the kitchen to step up its game. I don't see myself coming back here unless the menu undergoes some serious revamping. read more

4 stars for 3 reasons 1) because I wish they would expand their menu. I can't stomach a 1/2 lb burger so it would be nice to offer some smaller/lighter options other than salad. Sliders would be fabulous. Pasta without a spicy or cream sauce..just a regular pasta sauce. We used to LOVE their happy hour options...sadly, that disappeared...PLEASE bring it back! 2) the dessert prices are ridiculous. $12 for a piece of standard cheesecake garnished with sugared pecans and sauce. And a pretty small piece at that. That's Cheesecake Factory pricing for a Gordon food service slice. I know food prices have increased but come on! 3) if you're going inside-takeout pick up is the counter to the right of the door. Hostess is the counter to the left. Seems a little backwards. There's a very small sign on the counter angled to the back of the restaurant that we didn't see in the low light. The girl just stared at us..no welcome, nothing. First time at the restaurant. Service was great. Love the decor. Steak bite pasta dish was phenomenal. My husband had the roasted lamb chops, perfectly cooked and very delicious. We each had soup. So yea. This is pretty darn good. Amazing service, and I was extremely impressed overall since they just opened two days prior. Very kid friendly! Service tipped this from 4.5 to 5 stars. Decor and ambience is quiet nice, I felt like I was kind of in a modern cabin. The sage paint combined with lighter wood was inviting and warm. The place is loud but sound deadening panels are being installed this week. They are really listening to feedback on a lot of things. -FOOD- CALAMARI: Tender, crispy, fried well with a batter that didn't get in the way of the calamari, wasn't thick, greasy, or off putting. I'm not usually a fan of sweet glaze on calamari but the Hawaiian Chili Glaze was not overpowering. The fried pepperoncinis were a nice touch. BEER CHEESE SOUP: This was a soup of the day, not a menu staple. It was a bit bitter as they definitely used a sharp cheese. It was less creamy then other beer cheese soups I've had. I personally wasn't a big fan, but that may just be my palate. This very well could be exactly how a beer cheese soup should be, and I'm not up to par. BIRKDALE CRAB AND SHRIMP CAKES: Lump crab and shrimp mousse with lemon butter sauce. Wow! I wanted to re-order this the second I finished. What great flavor in the lump crab held together with the perfectly seasoned binder (aka breadcrumbs) and shrimp mousse. The house-seasoned fires are crunch crack. STRIP STEAK: Steak done just like it should be. Nice portion, good price, salt and pepper and on the grill it went. Served with the house-seasoned fries and green beans; green beans were exquisitely cooked. This was my friends dish and I sampled his steak and beans. COBBLESTONE SALAD: aka Cobb Salad - Like the Strip this was not my entree however in this case I didn't try it but she did say she loved it. Oven-roasted turkey, Dearborn honey ham, Swiss & blue cheese, hardboiled egg, chopped bacon, and crispy onions with a Maurice dressing. (Note: The menu didn't say it came with tomatoes, which it did and she had to pick off, however we informed management of this as a courtesy at the end of the meal and they were ecstatic to hear our feedback. Not sure if menu printing or kitchen error, but I'll guess the former as every Google image of a 'Cobb Salad' has tomato on it.) SWEET POTATO HASH: Ordered as a side item, and wasn't very impressed. It just didn't have a lot of flavor, and was not a harmonious hash. Red bell pepper was cut too big, the kale was not wilted enough, and the onions needed longer on the sautee. Possible kitchen growing pains. DESSERT: We sampled the Cheesecake, campfire cake, and the cobbler. All were delish, and portion perfectly after being almost stuffed from a meal. Priced well in the ~5 range. Next time it's Shrimp and Chorizo Grits or the Pork Chop for this guy. I hear the Margarita Flatbread is very good. The Coca-cola wings and crispy shrimp app sounds delish as well. read more

came here for a light snack and a drink. Not usually a west sider, but this spot was recommended and what a blessing. Such a great find. Obviously named after the road it was located on, but love their sense of humor in posting pics of famous Bens and "famous?" steins throughout the restaurant. It is filled with dark wood (not a reference to me) chairs and light walls and has a lot of windows which allows ample natural light. If I have a complaint it would be that the acoustics make it hard to hear. But then, in defense of the restaurant, years of listening to women yell at me has made me slightly deaf. Ordered their pinconning fondue and a few drinks. Let me tell you something, when I order pretzel bread I don't expect all that much. These pretzel sticks were good enough to eat all on their own. Flaky, soft and oh so warm. And yes, the pinconning fondue is what the dish is named after BUT the real prize is the other sauce. Is it BBQ? Is it mustard? is it heaven???????????? Palate and Root get all the attention out this way, but I would tell anyone to come here and check it out. Can't wait to be west side again. read more

Highly disappointed in the lack of service from our waiter on Father's Day. Not very busy, yet our waiter was nowhere to be seen. Horrible service. Not one dish cleared from start to finish (two hours). No offer of more wine or water or pop. Not asked how we wanted our steak cooked for the pasta, yet we realized that after it came out very well done. Shoe leather. Cremated. Terrible dish. My very bland Reuben (i think they ran out of cheese and 1000 island but didnt tell me) sandwich showed up with fries when I didn't realize it came with anything and I don't eat fries so I asked the food carrier if they had anything else..of course I was informed it came with a choice of a side but the server never asked. He never asked how our meals were..which were all sub par. Never ever showed his face until I flagged him down for boxes. I asked the hostess if she could get someone to clear our plates..our appetizer plates and soup bowls were never cleared. She never got anyone so after 15 minutes I removed them myself to a clear table. The stacked dishes sat there for 30 minutes at the clear high top. "No thanks, we don't want dessert"; is what we would have replied if asked. And we really wanted a couple but didn't want to wait any longer. Awful holiday experience and it's guaranteed we will never return. The bread was good and we wanted more but were never offered..and the empty basket sat there the entire experience..until I walked it over with its other dirty friends to the cleared table. As far as the food - I'd easily compare it to Applebee's. But maybe not that good. I would have told the waiter that everything was fine...if ever he asked. I came here with a friend for a casual dinner and cocktails. They did a great job transforming this place. They have managed to make it feel warm and cozy. The service is great. Our waitress was very attentive, made sure our drinks were full at all times. We had the fondue as the appetizer, it was pretty good, but in no way was this fondue. It was a cheese dip, a very good cheese dip, with warm pretzels and a yummy mustard dipping sauce. It was good, but incorrectly named. My friend and I both opted for sandwiches. Both were very good! She has the club and I had the Ruben (w/o meat). Both were very tasty. I gave them a 4 because they didn't blow me away, but I will go back. They have a nice twist on the average bar food. Well, let's put it this way...I would not go back. I spent almost $300 for three people and one did not drink. If I had AMAZING food and drinks then I would say give it a try. NOT amazing and be prepared that you will be hungry when you leave...very small portions. But here is the take away: * BIG mistake on my bill. Waitress paid herself a $60 tip rather than the $30 I left her (it was corrected, but I had to call) No offer to stop by for a free drink or two for the mistake * Two apps were overcooked to the point that we sent one back * No birthday celebration after I told both the owner and the waitress we had one at the table * Friday nite and the place was half full (that is when I should have walked out) It is more a burger place (we sat at a high top) that is very overpriced and although the food is creative, certainly there are better places for the money. First visit to this establishment. This place truly surprised me. I'm not sure when it was built but the atmosphere was fantastic. We arrived for an early dinner and my wife and I were both very impressed. I had the two napkin burger and the wife had a club sandwich and very happy with both. The sauce on the burger was delicious. Oh, I almost forgot; we also had the pretzel fondue for an appetizer. DELICIOUS! The service was impeccable. My beverage was never empty. We LOVE this place. When my husband and I (or the girls and I) get a chance, we come here! The steak with "house" dipping sauce is amazing! The menu varies seasonally which I appreciate. The food is fresh, the drink menu is amazing, and we always have quality service! The "goose cooler" is my favorite, made with Elderflower liquor (St. Germain I think), which is one of the specialty liqueurs that can be hard to find. Last time we were there for a "girls night" there was a problem with the overhead speaker and it was beeping loudly over the intercom for just a few minutes. The manager was on top of the problem and had it fixed immediately. He then came around to each table and explained to the guests what was going on with humor and grace. I really appreciate him taking the time to make his patrons feel welcomed and important. This is what makes Benstein a great place to gather.
