UPDATE: I was contacted through yelp by the co owner and I was invited back. I'm not a frequent yelper so I had NO clue about the message til months after. I definitely appreciated someone reaching out. I might give it another try someday. But I definitely appreciated the professionalism and him trying to correct the situation. The food is definitely overpriced in my opinion. I think the best part of my meal was the side salad. The service was awful. Took forever to get our drinks, never received our waters, took forever after we finished eating to receive a bill.... then for her to come back to get the payment and to wait for our card back..... forget about it. This place is very good. Nice atmosphere, valet parking, friendly staff, awesome decor and attentive owner. My wife enjoyed her filet very much, and I loved my brisket with brussels sprouts. The two onion soup was awesome. So was the pretzel fondue appetizer. The bread and olive oil they brought out was very tasty. Good selection of beer on tap. They even have Hopslam. Don't have many complaints. Will definitely eat here again. The price is a tad high, but it's such a nice, relaxed place. Want to see them succeed. Fantastic. read more

Worth writing a great review. Showed up w/o reservation Saturday @ dinner time. 20 minute wait, no problem. Hostesses were very polite, attentive, smiling. Waitress, same. Great, fast, friendly service. Super accommodating of our 16 month daughter, water spills and all. I'm an extremely picky clean eater, and the meal I got was great. Fresh, well-prepared food, not greasy, oily, or covered with cheese like it could have been. My wife's meal was the same. I was happy and felt good after eating. I told her, and I meant it, one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. This will surely be our new go-to. I was deciding between the salmon and quinoa salad ($13) and B.G's signature salad ($14) with salmon added, and regretted going with the latter afterwards because it looked like the former was a more substantial meal. The signature salad was very standard, mixed greens with balsamic, nothing special. We came when they were brand new, maybe in the first week, and our waitress admitted that she had had a rough day on the service floor which I think is unlikely to improve the remainder of the day. Accordingly, I specified no cheese on my salad but it came out with cheese. Definitely not a deal breaker, but annoying to have to pick around it. We sat at the table closest to the kitchen and the staff seemed stressed out which is understandable if it is their first few days of operation, but I thought they had a lot of room for improvement in professionalism and efficiency. Looking at the dishes around me, I think the pasta is the best deal here in terms of both quality and quantity of food. Weird decor, including a portrait of Ben Stein the actor. The quirky items on the walls, including furniture and rust-colored pots and pans, aimed to catch one's eye kind of clash with the TVs all over the place, as it seems like the restaurant has a split personality as a sports bar and thought-provoking upscale restaurant. I wouldn't come again on my own because I think it's too expensive for what it is, but if I found myself there again I would order a pasta dish. read more

My brother had been here a few times already and he encouraged my daughter, son in law, and myself to join them. Excellent. I liked the decor, fast, friendly service, arrived early, 6:15 on a Saturday. I had to try the cheeseburger. Half pounds of 100% pure american beef. Prepared perfect with juice dripping on my fingers with every bite I took. It arrived with sweet potato fries but I had to have the regular fries. The waitress was happy to oblige. The menu looked pretty good for some other entrees that I will probably try next time. Yes, next time. Get there early enough and you don't have to worry about parking. read more

I went to the Benstein Gille a few months back with a friend just to grab a bite to eat. There have been a few restaurants/bars in this locations before so I always get a little skeptical as to why they never last. When I walked into the grille I was blown away, the decor is beautiful! My friend and I were sat at a hightop in the bar area and ordered a few drinks. The server was very nice and everyone that walked by made sure we never ran out of our beer. I ordered the lobster mac and again was blown away! I figured there would be a few pieces of lobster in it but mostly pasta but boyyyyyyy was I wrong! There was so much delicious lobster in this dish! I am drooling just thinking about it! I really hope this place sticks around, it is so great to have some finer dinning in this area that is filled with dinky hole in the wall bars. So its good to have another nicer restaurant in the area, this location has been sitting idle for over a year or two. So I like what they have done to the interior, strip it down and open up the space, its much brighter. And with all new places, its a popular place on weekends. We snuck in at 5:30 and got a table, one of the last of about 40-45. But by the time we left, there was an hour wait. The menu is about 35 items deep, with 7-8 options between the appetizers, Salads, Sandwiches and entrees. I didn't notice and specials, nor was it mention. Decent beer and wine selection. The food is upscale, American with a Michigan touch. They start you with a ciabatta roll and some red peppers in olive oil - tasty!. The rolls are baked on premise. Even though there are no more than 50 tables in the place, we counted 10 servers - so service was attentive. I order the Havana sandwich with Sweet potato fries and the wife had the cobblestone salad. We were surprised how quickly the food arrived, under 10 minutes. The Havana sandwich (cuban) is spiced pull pork, with ham, a pickles, swiss cheese and mustard, pressed on a panini - to make it a warm sandwich and to meld the ingredients together. It came on a big crusty roll with grill lines, but the sandwich was cold, especially the meat inside the sandwich. The wife's salad was fine except the dressing on the side, was basically mayonnaise Another odd thing about this place is the location of the server prep station. I guess from our table we had a front row seat. Not sure if its best thing for your customer's to see. Big bottles of Heinz Ketchup and other items. So, when we come back, we will avoid these food choices, to see if this place can step up and find its groove in other options. read more

Our first visit to this new restaurant was on Mother's Day. I called ahead around 6:45pm and they said a table for four should be no problem at 7:15pm. I was a little worried when I came to find the self-parking full. But people were walking out as we were walking in and we got seated right away. Not sure what the point of valet parking is at a place like that unless they need to park cars offsite when they are full. Last time we were at this location was about 5-6 years ago. I remember feeling sorry for the poor waitress. She was pregnant and working in a smoke-infested workplace. Thankfully the smoke-free law went into effect soon after. But we never went back because we had the impression of a dark, smokey bar with average food. The new decor is nothing fancy but it's opened up and lighter. Definitely an improvement. People who judge the quality of their food by quantity may be disappointed but we were quite happy. You could tell there are real chefs behind the menu. The calamari was very nice. It said sweet & spicy so I was afraid my kids couldn't eat it but it was just a tiny hint of spice and we could all enjoy it. The lobster macaroni was very good. Cheesy with enough lobster in the mix. Flat bread margherita made for a good snack/appetizer. They have a nicer than average kids menu. They have chicken tenders but potato-chip crusted for a nice change. And filet beef tips as another option. Both my kids cleaned their plates. I guess my only complaints were that I felt they were a little stingy with the side coleslaw considering the price paid. Also I realized later my kids never got the "warm chocolate chip cookie" that was noted on the kids menu. We were sat by the window facing the road and we didn't notice any of the noise issues that others are complaining about despite the fact that the place was full. Calamari came out quickly. Wait was perhaps a tad long for the entrees but it was Mother's Day and it wasn't bad at all. And we ordered the margherita flatbread as a post-appetizer which came quickly as well. Our fist dining experience at the Benstein Grille was an amazing one. We were immediately seated at our window table and our drinks arrived quickly. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the food selections, answered all of our questions and delivered our food quickly. I ordered their Signature Two-Onion Soup (5.99) with a Gruyere and Swiss cheese crouton nestled in a rich two-onion broth. I was treated to the best onion soup I've ever had. It was fabulous! Next, I ordered the Havana sandwich. (10.99) It is a large two-handed sandwich made with Mojo braised pulled pork, Dearborn Brand® ham, extra thin sliced pickles, Swiss cheese and artisan mustard pressed on a cubano roll. Scrumptious!!! It was accompanied with seasoned French fries that were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Great texture and seasoning without being greasy. Yum! This restaurant is definitely a foodie's dream. Great, delicious, unique food with beautiful, clean and comfortable surroundings. This may be our new #1 go to place. read more

My wife and I were really excited to check out Bensteins because we heard it was a cool place with a great atmosphere. All of that was true, what my friends left out was that the quality of food for the price of what you're getting was extremely off. Let me preface my food review by saying I will give this place another chance because the place was really nice and the wait staff was awesome. The meal was brought to our table in under 5 minutes, and while I like fast service, that screams pre made meals. I had the fish and chips for 18 bucks. I must say, I've never seen cod that color (definitely frozen for a while). Also, both the fish and fries were quite soggy as if the oil in the fryer needed to be turned up another 100 degrees. I had two bites and asked for a box to be polite. My wife had the lobster mac for 18 bucks, and she had only a few bites before cutting our losses and asking for the check. Beer selection was good so we will definitely go back to sit at the bar, but I'm a bit nervous about the food quality. I may play it safe and get a sandwich or something harder to screw up. read more

Any positive review is a setup. Do not I repeat do not be swindled into eating at this establishment. Prices are outrageous for the food that is served. Food is terrible. Presentation is disgusting. Brisket is served as if cooked up from a frozen dinner. Not sure what they serve but it is not brisket. French fries are cooked in same oil as they cook their fish. Fries taste fishy and disgusting. They can't even explain what their brown water soup is. That call it onion soup with cheese but then there is no cheese. Asked why they say they have cheese nobody can explain. I hope they go out of business and a real restaurant opens in its place with real restaurnnteers. These owners are either clueless or buffoons. Save your money and you time. Just pass on this joint. I gave them 2 chances. First experience awful. Second chance I explained they are getting another try. Either they didn't care or are so self absorbed that serving disgusting food and ripping off customers is the format for success. I feel like I have been swindled. Buyer Beware! read more

Lovely friendly place. Lunch with parents and sibs yesterday was perfect. 2 appetizers-(1) fondue with soft pretzels and(2) crab/shrimp bites. Both were wonderful. I was torn between 3 stars or 4 on this one. I like the fact that I haven't had to wait to be seated the two times I've been here. Judging from the parking lot, you would think the place was packed. Unfortunately this is the biggest downfall of the restaurant, the parking lot is just poorly designed and there is not enough room for what you would think would be a standard Friday night crowd to park. They do offer valet but if your anything like me, I never let valet park my car. Instead I parked across the street at the park (which I didn't mind because I enjoy walking anytime I have the opportunity). Other than parking and a very tart pear martini I had on my first visit (don't order the pear martini unless you like VERY tart drinks), I don't have anything bad to say about it. Valet gentleman was very nice when greeting you at the door, the waitstaff was also pleasant and attentive and the drinks and food came to the table relatively quickly. The shrimp appetizer was GREAT (also what brought me back) and the decor was impressive.... big change from the prior establishment that was located here. I wouldn't advise on the crab cakes (a bit undercooked in my opinion) though. All in all, it's a nice addition to the neighbor hood. I will definitely be going back for more shrimp. Also, I love supporting the neighborhood businesses .... it makes me happy to see this establishment doing so well so far. read more

My wife along with friends went to the Benstien Grill for dinner. My wife had gone before for brunch and enjoyed it. Our server Renee was attentive and made the evening nice for us. It was Wine Wednesday with 50% off select bottles of wine. We had a Chardonnay that was very nice and a great price. Several of the others enjoyed various types of beers. We all had different types of meals. My wife had a club sandwich which she really enjoyed and it was large enough she took home half of it. My friend had a pork chop and said it was excellent and his wife has chicken cordon blue. I had a brisket plate but switched out the hash for French fries. It also came with delicious fried Brussels sprouts which I really enjoyed. Only negative was our friends ordered a lava cake and after a 5 minute wait were told they were out. Not good planning as it was way early in the evening. They ended up with a nice piece of bumby cake which they said was good. Overall a very nice time. Prices were not expensive or cheap but somewhere in between. We will return for sure read more

I went to Benstein Grille yesterday evening via referral for a belated birthday celebration for my wife, father, sister and niece (!) We made a reservation days in advance with no problem and arrived the evening of with no wait. The wait staff was very pleasant and informative of the menu and evening specials. The 8 of us each ordered something different so we were able to try many of their menu items in one sitting. Of them all, the B.G. Deluxe Two Napkin Burger was the best, followed by the lamb chops and brisket. The three of us that ordered different chicken dishes were a bit jealous but still pleased with our meals. The best part of the night was when one of the owners of the restaurant stopped by to ask us how our evening was going and brought a hot chocolate chip cookie for my 3 year old niece just because. Of course, she broke a little piece off for her favorite uncle. :) The food, service and decor will certainly be why we would go back to Benstein Grille but it was the owner's kind gesture that made me write this review and tell all my friends and family about this place! read more

I went for dinner here with a good friend and we lovedddd it!! We tried the fondue to start and it was amazing. The cheese sauce had a certain tang and was super rich and delicious. It is definitely NOT good for your waistline!! We followed with the French Onion Soup.....YUMM!! It was soooo good. They have this disk of bread and cheese and other goodies nestled inside the soup and you take little bits of it as you eat the soup and it is just delicious. Must try for everyone!! Then, I had the veggie sandwich and my friend had the signature salad with salmon. We both liked our entrees. I must say, I liked Michelle's salad way more than my sandwich. The salmon they make there is amazing, it is always perfectly cooked and has a spice blend on it that is just spicy enough. YUM-O!! Took forever to get the bill, then waited for the waitress to come take our money. We would have ordered dessert but decided we couldn't wait another 30 minutes for that to show up. I thought this place was great!!! I had the salmon and Mediterranean salad and my bf had the shrimp and grits. My salmon was cooked to perfection and my bf loved his! They had a decent wine list and beer on tap! The only issue was that in our party of six it took forever for the food to come out, but it was cooked perfectly so I can't complain! We've been coming to Benstein Grille for about a year now. The food and atmosphere are really good and worth the visit. The inconsistent service takes away from the experience though. The servers our first couple of visits were attentive, friendly, and efficient. Lately though the service has been friendly but not attentive at all. Examples: The server asks if we want boxes while we are literally putting forks in our mouths, still eating. We frequently sit with empty drinks while we see the server leaning against the counter or simply walking by the table with no awareness. We recently asked a busser to get our server because we wanted to order another round of cocktails and beer, and about five minutes later our server simply dropped the check on the table without a word. Went here for the first time on New Years Eve. The ambiance inside is pretty cool. Unique art on the walls, a very homey feeling. Interesting design as well, nice bar area and decent sized dining area. The food was delicious. I had the sausage and pasta, full of flavor and decent sized portion. As a starter I had the double onion soup. I'm a big fan of French Onion soups and this one was very high of the list of best ones I've had. Nice sized bowl, a lot of onions and delicious cheese. One of the highlights of a good French onion soup is not too salty. This was spot on! Not salty and full of flavor. The service was ok. Had to ask for refills a couple times. But then again it was busy and didn't appear to have many waitresses. My one complaint is the price. For the prices you get a decent amount of food, but I would have also liked a soup or salad included in my entree. At $20 am entree, I would hope to get a salad or soup. Overall great place, my party of 6 enjoyed it and everyone liked their meals. I'm positive we'll be back. read more

Excellent dinner. Tried shrimp/crab cakes...absolutely the best I've ever had. The fries are amazing and I am not a fry person so that says a lot. My husband got the Havana (aka Cuban) & He said it's the best he's ever had too. Our 2 yr old had the Mac & cheese. It was amazing. A bit overpriced for a kids meal ($6.99) but you get a large portion for kids, a drink, & a cookie for dessert. The food was fabulous. Glad there's a good restaurant that actually makes their food rather than taking from freezer, heating & serving. Can't wait to come back! Stopped in a few times now. Always great. Tried the brunch also...must try. Absolutely delicious! I would try something different...NOT the ordinary eggs, egg sandwich, or omelettes (not that they are bad by any means but you can get that anywhere). The kids French toast is amazing with fruit sprinkled all over. I got the bread pudding - made with coffee cake and comes with really good bacon...so delicious...and also sprinkled with fresh fruit. We held our sons rehearsal dinner here, and it was perfect! Mike and his team welcomed our group of 24 without hesitation, and provided seating that was just personal enough. Shortly after we arrived, Mike came out to make sure we were happy with everything, and confirm his staff was taking good care of us (which we could not have asked for better service). The food was incredible; each and everyone of our guests commented on how good it was, and left full and content.
