Nothing but great things to say about the food and service. The food came out faster than expected. Our server was super helpful and let us know about the story of the restaurant. There was not a bad dish ordered for the family. Heard great reviews about the homemade pies that we had to try one. Got a slice of the cherry pie and it didn't disappoint. There's also ice cream available for anyone with little kids that prefer that for dessert. The restaurant was rockin an old school 50s look with a jukebox that was unfortunately out of order. It'd be sweet to have swing music playing in the background to add to the ambiance. read more

Bentley's is fantastic! Almost the only place in St. Ignace that does carry-out during COVID-19 (not sure why the others don't). The food is homemade and fantastic. An amazing place! We just wanted a mid-afternoon snack after a museum visit. A local sent us here. The pies were amazing! We had Blueberry Rhubarb and Fruit of the Forest. Our server was amazing and full of conversation. We learned that Bentley's has been in business in the same building for 98 years originally across the street on the waterfront. There is no doubt that we will return to St Ignace and that we will come back to Bentley's for more good eats and pie! read more

My husband and I were in town for an event that started very early in the morning and in our quest for a cup of coffee we stumbled upon this place. Not many establishments are open before 7:00 am, including this place, but one of the waitresses opened the door for us when she discovered us sitting outside waiting for them to open. The place is pretty small, but cozy. Both my husband and I got their breakfast pasty. It was tasty but the crust was a little doughier than what we are used to. I heard the waitress tell a customer about their awesome cinnamon rolls and thought to get one until we discovered that they grill them as ordered and take a little while to make. We wanted to get one to go, however as it was a very busy weekend, people were standing around waiting for a table and I would have felt bad making them wait even longer as I wasn't interested in giving up my table to wait in line myself for a cinnamon roll. Perhaps we will get one when we are in the area again. The wait staff was very friendly, even when one of them just about ended up wearing a pot of coffee because of all of the people that were standing around waiting for a table. The only thing I really didn't really care for were the bathrooms, they were right off the dining room and were extremely small..........you definitely would not want to make a lot of noise in there, if you get my meaning. We are enroute to home (aka SE MI) after a good snooze at America's Best motel just up the road...Yelp reviews for Bentleys were uniformly good, so we stopped by for breakfast. It was as good as the reviews said it'd be. Eggs, bacon, French toast and coffee: you'd think they're nothing special...but here, they're special indeed! Staff are fast and friendly, food is hot and excellent quality, and the tab was surprisingly light, for a tourist town. We'll be back next year and will be enjoying a meal here again. read more

Can you say YUM!!! We were there right after Memorial day when things started to partially open up. We were starving so we picked this place because of other Yelp reviews and our hotel was right down the road. We called in our order and he said, "By the time you get here it will be almost done." We got a burger with fries, a chicken sandwich with fries, and a meatloaf sandwich with mash potatoes and gravy. And yes he was almost done when we walked in. It had an old-time diner feel to it, it would have been fun to stay and eat, during another time. We chatted with the lady behind the counter, by the way, there were homemade pies on the counter...NOM NOM. And the cook was talking to us from his kitchen. Telling us a bit about St. Ignace. Back at the hotel, we all shared a bite of our meals. The favorite was the burger and homemade fries. The bun was amazing and OMG the fries...yes! The meatloaf sandwich was delicious and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. Because of all the tasty gravy. I wish we had taken photos, but we were just too hungry. We will be back. read more

An excellent way to start the day. Breakfast at Bentley's B-M-L is fantastic. We had the Breakfast Skillet with no complaints. Can't believe my fiancé finished it all. That's how tasty it was. I enjoyed the corned beef hash and eggs. I requested well cooked and crispy corned beef, and by golly that's what I got. Crispy potatoes, and the eggs were a perfect over easy. Then the yogurt and fruit bowl - so fresh, and a good side for a hungry man's breakfast. The coffee is hot and the women running this diner will keep you satisfied. Five stars! Great work ladies! Where I'm from pasties are a common food item and so I was excited to try a pastie from the UP; unfortunately, the thing I got served was a poor excuse for food. It was tasteless, obviously microwaved, soggy, not properly heated through and left me with a queasy feeling in my stomach. To top it all off, the service was slow and quite rude, when I asked what was in the vegetable pastie I was told "vegetables" and I had to prompt her for further information; apparently watching a rerun of NCIS and gossiping with a friend was more important than serving customers.. Give this derelict diner a miss, there's much nicer places nearby! read more

This was easily the worst breakfast I've ever had, and I don't mean just on this recent trip. I don't know how you can ruin eggs, sausage and potatoes, but this place did it. Nothing is cooked with any seasoning. The home fries are slices of potatoes that are either fried or roasted. Nothing added to them. The sausage patties taste like cheap frozen patties. The best thing about my meal was the english muffin. I left most of the food on my plate - I just couldn't eat it. My friend had the same meal but with bacon. He left BACON on his plate (along with everything else). That never happens. Definitely the worst meal of our entire trip. Also, the booths are all torn up and patched together with duct tape. We were there about an hour and the whole time there was one waitress not only waiting on tables but making desserts for families of 4-6 that had already eaten. There was, it seemed 1 guy in the kitchen that was running food out after each order was complete, while the waitress never checked on us to see how our food was or if she could get us anything else. The entire time we were there the owner (or manager..not sure which) was sitting on her butt at the counter not greeting anyone, not helping out, just staring at the tv and occasionally telling the 1 waitress to get her this or that. Heavy, dense pasties with a rich gravy --- excellent if you need a warm-up. Jovial servers, goofy decor, and some soup to warm you up. The vegetarian pasty was reasonable --- definitely not as robust as the beef, but it did involve some real veggies (rather than the frozen-peas-and-carrots filling I've sometimes encountered). The gravy really is quite heavy, as is the dough; and these are plate-and-fork pasties, no way you could carry this in a lunch pail into a mine. This used to be the "Bentley's Breakfast-n-Lunch," but now it's "Bentley's B-M-L" named after the owner's daughters. This place takes you back in time and makes you feel like home. Everyone is very friendly including the customers. We stopped by for breakfast and it was very good. What a cute little retro cafe! I love the vintage decorations, and enjoyed sitting on a stool at the counter. My husband and I were disappointed that they were out of veggie pasties when we were there, but I enjoyed the fish sandwich I had instead, and my husband enjoyed the veggie burger. Their homemade chips were ok- not great, but I give them credit for attempting homemade. We were pretty full when we finished and so skipped dessert, but the waitresses told us the pies were all made in-house and they looked really tempting. The meringue I saw was HUGE and fluffy. As opposed to what others have said, I felt the prices here were fine. They're a bit higher than other mom-n-pop diners, but we found food to be uniformly pricey in St. Ignace because it's a touristy place. This was actually the cheapest meal of our 3-day stay. Old school diner that gets the job done. The locals love it here, so that's kind of all you need to know. This isn't a tourist-heavy spot and it has everything you could ask for on the menu. Bentley's even does catering and bakes cakes, which is different for a diner. Diner food is fine as expected, and there isn't a ton of seating... but their pie is spot on. So, yeah. BLUF: 5 stars based on service and atmosphere (and the pie). We went hear for the pasties. Small place with a 50's diner feel. Service was unbelievably friendly and helpful. They were all great. Seems like some people associated with the place hangout when they are not working which is nice too. I got a beef pastie because I had never had one. Basically a potpie but in the shape of a burrito and gravy on the side. She told me I had to eat it with ketchup which I tried but I liked the gravy better. Pasties are pretty good and I bet if I lived in the UP I would get them all the time. That being said they are not very exciting to the mouth. (my company said it was one of the better ones they had ever had and they are from about 3 hours away) We also got burgers which were very standard. I ended with a slice of berry blast pie (basically all their berries in one pie). It was amazing and pies are very important to me. This was a great piece of pie. Their pies are pretty popular and I got the last slice of the last pie remaining. Overall the place is amazing. I never leave St. Ignace without visiting. So good and great prices! The staff have that special UP friendliness you don't find down state.

We are tourists and visited this restaurant based on previous reviews. Our concerns are that neither wait staff had their noses covered with their face masks and one girl kept rubbing her nose. We could see the cook through the kitchen door and he was not wearing a mask at all. We thought, with the mask mandate that Michigan would be safer than most other places. We just spent 5 days in the Sleeping Bear Dunes área and everyone there seemed to be taking the mandate more seriously. read more

Stopped in the day after Labor day for dinner. This is a old diner with the short swivel stools at a low counter and the vinyl covered booths. Very cool old juke box that accepts quarters. Homemade pies and a ice cream cooler. Servers were friendly but obviously tired. We had a okay meal but this would not be my first choice for dinner in St. Ignace. The meatloaf and mashed potatos were okay but not my favorites. Might be a little different if it was not the end of a holiday weekend. read more
